Great place to start your day. We stopped in and had a great breakfast. There was one single man running the entire front of the restaurant as someone had called in. He was running everywhere and serving all the tables. Coffee and water was immediate. I ordered a Rib eye hash breakfast and crispy hash browns. Hubby ordered the Country Benedict - he loved his breakfast as much as I did. The hash browns were crispy on the outside and still tender inside. Some places can't handle good hashbrowns. My Ribeye hash was great. The coffee creamer is in a bucket on the table, with half and half, hazelnut and French vanilla creamer to choose from. Coffee is served with a thermos carafe and plentiful. Wanted to try this restaurant Sunset has reopened within the last year and had new ownership. I've heard good things from my neighbors and friends. Stopped in lunch for me breakfast for the hubby. Husband enjoyed his breakfast of scrambled eggs, bacon, and toast. Although it did seem sort of a small order. I decided to try a hamburger for lunch. The onion rings were really, really good! I didn't take a great shot of this but the burger I ordered medium well and it was completely charcoal black and hard on one side. I ended up eating only 1/4 of the burger and a few of the onion rings. It wasn't terrible, but the burger really wasn't very good. I should've probably looked at it and sent it back, but I hate sending food back. What kind of bothers me is the server looked directly at my plate that I had pushed to the edge of the table for pick up. Saw I didn't eat but a quarter of the burger and still had quite a fewof the onion rings left and didn't ask how I liked it. Clearly he noticed the plate but yet doesn't ask if I wanted to go box or if I liked it. I guess I sort of expect anywhere I eat that they'll come by and ask if I need anything else or if I enjoyed it or not. I wasn't going to ask for my money back, but I still would've liked to have been asked when I hadn't eaten 80% of the meal if everything was OK. Saw several positive comments about the off the menu 10 Oz prime rib special with baked potato and vegetables on Friday for lunch, so we thought we'd try it. My expectations were pretty low given this is primarily a breakfast place, but we were pleasantly surprised. Although it want "steakhouse" quality prime rib, for $25 it was better than I expected. It was a decent size of meat with some fat, but not too much and the flavor was actually pretty good - good enough that we'll stop in again on a Friday when we're craving a slice of prime rib. read more

My only complaint is that they start cleaning around 1:00 p.m., even though they don't close until 2:00 p.m. The cleaning products have a very strong, overpowering odor that made it unpleasant to finish our meal. Tried their summer salad special for $12, it was delicious! So hearty and the flavor combo with the candied pecans and the strawberry dressing was so good! Service is always great, I call it in for lunch and it's always ready for pick up within 10-15 minutes. The servers are so attentive and they have a huge sitting area inside, but I am always in a rush to run back to work. They keep busy and people see to really enjoy eating here also. We had dinner there tonight. Clam chowder is nothing but a cream soup. I guess they forgot the clams, potatoes and everything else that makes a good chowder. If you cannot make a Good chowder don't make it at all. The grilled chicken sandwich and hamburger with both very good. What I really really do not like is the cleanliness of the restaurant. The window sill was absolutely filthy. Looks like they have not been cleaned in ages. I wonder now, how clean is the kitchen. If you are going to own and run a restaurant you better make sure every corner top to bottom is spotless. On slow days I'm sure employees and owners can find a little cleaning that needs to done. The food is mediocre at best. The pancakes were gummy and undercooked. When I pointed it out to the waiter is basically said, "Oh, I'll tell the owner." Remember the saying, the customer is always right? Well this place doesn't feel that way, I ordered a grilled fish sandwich. After one bite I realized something was wrong. It didn't taste good. I quit eating it and was just eating my french fries. When my husband finished his fried fish, the waitress came back to the table. I told her the fish was not good. She kindly asked if I wanted something else, but I declined. When we went to pay, the young man, maybe manager, asked how my husband liked his fish. He said it was fine. Possibly the worst breakfast I've ever had. Ordered the corn beef hash, it was basically mush, possibly blended I suppose. It was bland and disgusting. The country fried potatoes were hard, not cooked and I have no idea what the flavoring was supposed to be. I had two bites of the meal, ate my sourdough toast which also was marginal, got up, paid my tab and left. I told the checker the meal was the worst I've ever had, he gave us no answer except, "I will let the owner know". What a disappointment that cost $34.00. We ordered the Grilled Alaskan cod to-go for my 94-yr-old MIL, explaining that we needed a "low-fat, low-sodium" meal, for health reasons. The menu clearly stated that this was served with a lemon caper white wine sauce, grilled asparagus and seasoned baby baked potatoes. We asked for no capers. When the driver we booked delivered it, she opened the packaging and found she had been given breaded deep-fried Cod in a butter sauce! She had to peel off all the breading, and wipe off the butter sauce. She did not enjoy the meal, as a result, although, to be fair, the veggies were apparently good. We called the restaurant the next day, and spoke to Junior, the manager. He was unable to help at all, saying he needed to check with the owner, Jon. Junior called back the next day, and told my wife that the owner refuses to address the matter in any way, whether partial refund, replacement, or anything. We were effectively told to go fly a kite, though Junior was apologetic. They had our money, so were out of luck. We cannot, in good conscience, recommend this establishment, as our one experience clearly shows the owner has no qualms about exploiting elderly customers. Shame. read more

Went in for a late breakfast. We were in a hurry and ended up getting the food to go and eating a few bites there, then leaving. The Waitress didn't bat an eyelash at our request and got us done and out the door in good time. I had the Biscuits and gravy. The gravy was wonderful and flavorful, but the biscuits were hard as rocks until I broke them apart and let the gravy soften them up. The Buttered Biscuit just lost us as customers on our first visit. After reading some rave reviews on here we went this morning to try it out for ourselves. This is a mixed review, but due to customer handling, we won't be back. I ordered the Smothered Poblano Omelet with carne asada, hash browns and rye toast. My wife ordered the Gold Medal Pancake. Her breakfast was excellent, she loved it, however, mine was a mixed bag. My hash browns were perfect... the toast was adequate, but only one slice, cut in half. It's pretty standard to get 2 slices, halved, but I saw enough food on the plate so didn't worry about the single slice of toast. My omelet however.. first there was a piece of paper, like wax paper, about 2"x 0.5" in size, in my food by the omelet. The carne asada was 90% inedible as it was strings of gristle with very little chewable meat. I got tired of spitting gristle into a napkin and finally pulled the remaining meat out of the omelet to pick at with my fork & knife.. it was all strings of gristle. Really a bummer as the flavor was great. I showed the wait staff and asked for the manager, he said he is the manager and that he could knock 10% off the plate's price. I said that really isn't acceptable all things considered. For these issues I expect to have the plate removed from my bill. I wish I had just rejected the plate at the first sign of issues... and had them re-do it, but I hate to be a problem and delay our breakfast.. but that's really what I needed to do in order to achieve satisfaction. The manager said that is all the owner will allow them to do is a 10% discount on the offending plate. I asked to speak to the owner and he said they are not here, but he had texted him/her about the issue. Still, 10% was the offer. I told him they just lost a new customer already and he acted like it wasn't the first time, his apathy was impressive. Not a damn to be given. Too bad really because I know they can output quality, it's the handling of the exception that has killed it for us. read more

Went there for dinner this evening. My wife ordered the combination plate, 3 shrimp looked as if someone used a rolling pin to flatten them out, breaded and over cooked. The fish fillet was about 2 fingers wide and about 3 1/2 inches long and flattened and over cooked. (2 fish sticks are larger.) There were 5-6 thin breaded calamari strips over French fries. All for $17.99. I had the Country Fried Steak; gravy was bland. It was fine with mashed potatoes and corn. $15.99. Service was good. There were only 3 tables in use at 5 PM. Disappointed. We will take a pass on another meal there. read more
