It's been at least 10 years since I've been to a Krazy Sub and that was Ned's in North Mesa. This location is in southeast Mesa is in a busy shopping center. I stopped here on my way out to golf in Gold Canyon for a quick sandwich. It was around 65 degrees outside but inside the store was even colder...I was shivering the whole time there...they must not have any heater. After reviewing the menu quickly (about 15 seconds), when I approached the cashier he asked 'Are you ready now?'. I found this pretty insulting as I was looking at the menu briefly with nobody behind me inline. What happened to 'How may I serve you today?' or at least a semi-friendly greeting? I ordered a Torpedo sub and got a water cup as they had a Pepsi machine (I much prefer Coke products) and no fresh-brewed Iced Tea (only Brisk out of the Pepsi machine). The sub came out quickly. I forgot to take a picture but it looked like a bread-only sandwich with a few lettuce strips hanging out. You could not see the meat or cheese without lifting off the bun. I'd say they are quite frugal with the meat, cheese and vegetables. However, the sandwich bread was excellent and the sub had good taste. Overall, the experiences was average to slightly sub-par. There's a lot of sandwich options around and I don't see myself coming back to this location any time soon. read more

A coworker advised that I try Steve's Krazy Subs while on this side of town today and it didn't disappoint. Where else can you get a sandwich of this quality for $10? $1.80 for Macaroni Salad? These are 1950's prices. At any of the big sandwich shops it would be a $15 sub. The portions are on point, bread is fresh and soft, and the ingredients are top notch. Ordered 4 sandwiches from Steves today; supersub, 2 pastrami, and roast beef. All of us agreed the quality of meat was exceptional. The roast beef was tender, juicy, and lean. Most roast beef sandwiches have stringy and grisly pieces. Not this one! Prime quality beef. Both, my wife and brother said the same about the pastrami. The meat was tender and tasty. Hey, it's a sub joint. A good one. The cashier was beyond friendly, everyone was. The sandwiches are awesome and priced very fairly. Apparently the locals claim this place as a local delicacy. It's the local version (and a clear step up) to subway, Jersey Mike's and things of that sort. Similar price point (maybe better), with a bit more flavor and added love. Thinking about subway? So we have ordered from this location online on multiple occasions. Usually the order isn't ready by the time we get there, which is fine, we understand. Today however we placed an online order, sent our daughter out to pick it up and the order was ready! Upon arrival at home ALL of our sandwiches DID NOT HAVE lettuce, tomato, onions, oil/vinegar, and mustard as their menu states comes standard. We called to voice our concern, and was told, this is how we do it??? Well, it's not, and let's face it, things have gotten expensive! Our order was over $40 and obviously the customer isn't right. Saturday July 27, 2019 This was my first time visiting this sub business. I really didn't know what to expect. My wife and I ordered the #1 Super sub, #8 meatball sub, #18 turkey bacon avocado, and the #19 chicken salad. We also purchased the root beer ice cream cone, and a vanilla twist ice cream cone for 93 cents each. This food review will cover only the #1 Super Sub, #19 Chicken salad, and the ice cream cones. Which is what I had. The store was nice and clean, I liked the colors they chose. There were two young ladies working the counter. The young lady was very patient with us and my questions, since this was our first time there. I took quite a few pictures of the store and our food and uploaded them to Yelp. The #1 Super Sub was absolutely fantastic flavored. It was a true East cost style sub in creation, in the wrapping paper-butcher wrap paper, and more importantly in taste. The way this sub was created and layered was so good. All of the tastes hit your taste buds just at the right time. The bun was fresh, the ingredients were fresh. One of the best subs I have had in years. I had for the other half the first day the #19 chicken salad sub. The second bite in I got a piece of gristle/cartilage. If there is one thing that can just absolutely ruin my meal it is a piece of gristle/cartilage. In the trash it went. I will need to call them on Monday since they are closed on Sunday. I will update the review on the response I receive. The ice cream cone we had were very large, the cone itself was smaller. It can't be beat for 93¢. The root beer flavored one was very mild in its taste, but was very good. The twist cone had vanilla and root beer. Because the root beer was so mild tasting the vanilla overwhelmed it. I preferred the full root beer one instead of the twist, and the wife agreed. This review would have been 5 stars had it not been for the gristle/cartilage in the one sandwich. Depending on how they address the sandwich it could fall to a 2 star for lack of customer service or go to 4 stars for standing behind their quality of product and replacing it with a different one. July 29, 2019 I called in about the gristle in the chicken salad sandwich. The male I spoke with understood and offered to replace it with another of the same size. As we were driving out of this busy mall this afternoon I happened to see the sign for Krazy Subs and my first reaction was "oh no, not another franchise sub shop". They're seem to be everywhere these day and most of them share a common theme of being way overpriced, mediocre in quality and staffed by indifferent employees. Coming as I do from the northeast states where subs were invented and have developed into an art form I am tired of paying $10-15 for a small sandwich filled with half rotting meat and tired limp veggies pushed at me done "Some dude's way" with weird gimmicky ingredients. I went home and as the day went on the urge for a sub sandwich grew in my belly and I half-heartedly looked this place up and found out that they're not a chain at all, just three small stores within a few miles of each other. And I also learned that they've been making subs for 41 years. I looked at their online menu and saw that they have a pretty wide variety of sandwiches but nothing gimmicky. But the biggest thing that caught my eye was the prices. Of the three sizes, their fully loaded Super Sub was only $6.10 for a 6", $ 7.30 for an 8" and $8.60 for a 12". Are they krazy? The 12" Super Sub is what I had, prepared the way it was shown on the menu. It was both huge and heavy. It was an honest, non-pretentious East Coast sub sandwich that compared to some of the best I've had. So many of the chain sub shops don't get it, they load so much stuff on their sandwiches, all with competing flavors, that they all blend together and you can't really taste anything, especially the meat. That's why some sub fans call making a sandwich properly an "art". In 41 years I think Steve (whoever he is) learned that art and does a good job making it work in a fast food environment. The place is very clean and well organized. They don't make you stand in a long line with several people mumbling at you from behind a high counter. They don't make you write your order in crayon on a paper bag. They don't bully you into ordering it "Steve's Way" to save them the effort of hearing how you really want it. Just a face-to-face chat with a friendly order taker and they start building your sub. And oh yeah, one more thing ... they include a pickle with your sub. Memo to the other guys, a sub sandwich is not a sub sandwich without including a dill pickle on the side. Period. End of story. If you came from somewhere where sub sandwiches are done right you should check this place out. read more

Number 6 and Number 17 for the win please! Man we enjoyed our sandwiches so much. I got my number 6 "Roasts Beef" sandwich with provolone cheese toasted lightly with the works (mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato, onions, and house made oil, vinegar and oregano mix). It was scrumptious. 10 times better than Potbelly. My partner's number 17 was the Grilled chicken sandwich, bacon, provolone cheese and ranch dressing. That sandwich was also super tasty. Both sandwiches came with a pickle, which we greatly appreciated because we love pickles. Like many sub shops they also so chops and cookies to accompany your meal. We didn't try the freshly bake cookies that were at the register, maybe next time. Because there will be a next time for sure :) read more

So let's start off that the sandwiches here are very good! Unique and tasty. But in this time of Covid19 and Maricopa Co. mask mandate it was disappointing that the young lady making the sandwiches was not properly wearing her mask. While she had it on it was hanging below her nose and upper lip. Which while handling my food and the people ahead of me she was doing nothing to protect our safety or her own. When I commented, politely, the proper way to wear the mask was above her nose and mouth I received"oh sorry". Which obviously she wasn't sorry, as I went to refill my drink she still had it down by her chin making sandwiches for other customers. Upon making eye contact with me she did pull it back up. But unfortunately my opinion was already made and while she is there working I will be eating lunch in a different establishment. read more
