Maybe the best I have had. Pork Cracklin's are great too! Seasoning is spot on The hot sauce is a joke. For a place that claims to be Cajun to not have real hot sauce available is laughable. They have these packets of some sort of salsa in packets made in Pittsburg. I just laughed The guy at the counter seems like he hates his job. We've only had the cracklins but have been here a few times. It's delicious every time. Service is quick. The Cajun mayo they have on the side is good too. I prefer the chicken cracklins over the pork but they're both good. If you do plan to come for the cracklins then it's best to come earlier in the day as they may be sold out. Let's get to the pepper jack boudin balls. It was so good. Crispy on the outside but nice and favorable in the inside. Busting with flavor. I ate one in line waiting for the gumbo. The pepper jack boudin ball was a mushy mess with no pepperjack, the chicken cracklin was just fried skin and no meat, and the pork cracklin was just plain awful. The meat was dry/hard like it had been overcooked or sat too long. I should've known better when I saw that the place was empty. Let me start by saying this place has a large variety of Cajun items. Very clean there was no line as we went on a weekday. The staff was very helpful and kind. So we tried almost 1 of each of the ready made fried selections which included boudin balls with and without cheese, chicken skins and crawfish pies. The chicken skins were ok they are definitely different than the traditional cracklin . It tasted as though there was a batter but also reminiscent of a jerky the flavor was not bad though. We did not care for the boudin as it didn't seem solid it was a very wet bit runny texture. The flavor was not bad but it was a bit runny for our taste "this may come down to preference ". We also purchased the packaged smoked boudin you can take home to cook but it had the same texture. I would say give it a try for yourself. read more

So this is my second trip back since they've been open, first time was awesome the cracklins were fresh and warm and good. Now on my second trip back today they've seemed to pre-bag the cracklins that seem to taste like they've been sitting on the counter a while and were just room temperature and were just not that good. We moved here from Louisiana years ago and really miss the food. Every time we would drive to or through the Lafayette area we would make a stop at Best Stop to stock up on boudin and would get extra boudin, cane syrup for dipping, boudin balls, cracklins and maybe Evangeline Maid bread for our "car food". There's none better than Best Stop! So we are thrilled that we can now get it all in Katy. And even more excited about the upcoming Woodlands location!! Yes, they are more expensive than in La., but my drive is much shorter. My only suggestion/request for the Katy store is that they cut the cracklins into smaller pieces so it cooks up crispier and with less fat in the middle. Newly opened, I am a bit biased because I didn't care for the one in Scott, La, so don't take my words to heart . I stopped in today and as expected they were very busy, hot foods taking a bit long. A customer told me he waited way to long for a Boudin sandwich and felt the place should be larger for the amount of people stopping by. Over time it will settle down. Was given a crackling sample, good, fresh and meaty, but not seasoned enough for me and need spicy. 25$ a pound is a bit much for me. Tasted the boudin balls, for me too mushy. After 2 visits here, one Saturday morning and the next visit 4 days later, I give it 3 stars. Came for cracklin Saturday morning, the flavor was amazing. I bragged about it to everyone. Returned Wednesday morning, got home with my cracklin and it was not good. It was not even close to the quality I had that Saturday. I also wanted chicken cracklin but they were out. They couldn't make more because they were out of flour. My advice is to never allow them to close your bag before you pay. Make sure to taste what's in your brown bag before you leave to ensure the quality. Also get samples before making your decision too. I noticed Saturday that they bagged my cracklin and put the sticker on the side so i could see and taste what was inside on my way to the register. Contrarily on Wednesday, they bagged my cracklin and used the sticker to close the bag. Trust me, had the bag been open then I would have tasted what they gave me before I paid! I would have left those cracklin right there. 30 bucks down the drain. Be careful! read more

I think the original Best Stop in Louisiana was "made famous" via Jane and Michael Stern, of "Road Food" fame. I always quite liked it, although its "interstate-centric" name and location (and the idea it's where the traveler leaving Louisiana for more food-deprived locales would have a ~last chance~ to "load up the coolers" with real Cajun food) did not make it my favorite -- that would be Billy's, in Opelousas, and Hebert's Slaughter House, in Abbeville (for RED boudin) -- but it was fine. And it is certainly FINE to have authentic boudin, cracklin's -- and [whatever else they plan to stock when fully opened . . . some of the cold/freezer cases were quite bare when I was there during their soft opening] -- in Katy. The boudin was fine in taste, but wasn't the PLUMP and moist link you find in Acadiana. (The arcane, mystical art of keeping boudin piping hot without bursting the skins is seemingly known to few, other than every boudin purveyor in Acadiana!) The skin was rather dry and I am not sure I was given "original" as what I found when I got it home seemed "smoked." I need a second visit to confirm this hypothesis. I also concur with the other poster that the cracklin's were authentic, beautifully cooked, just right on the tooth,. but WOEFULLY UNDERSEASONED! Cracklin's have to be seasoned when they are fresh cooked, immediately when taken out of the grease. You can't "retrofit" the seasoning when they have cooled down. It just all falls off, where it needs to soak in with the grease. If they are omitting the seasoning for "health reasons" . . . I would submit that if you are worried about sodium on an item that is almost entirely running pork fat . . . er . . . that does not make very much sense. But I have no wish to make this all sound negative. I think a hot link of boudin is one of the very best "to go" snacks, and we should really have it available all over Houston as they do just a few miles to our east, in Louisiana. And, yes, it was just opened and a little hectic, but the staff were very friendly and enthusiastic. Check out the Best Stop, Katy! And "give them the hint" by asking for your cracklin's to be WELL SEASONED! read more

When I heard Best Stop Cajun Market was in Katy, Tx I had to plan a trip to visit. As a Louisiana native it is very hard to find authentic Cajun food outside of Louisiana. While in Katy I stopped at Best Stop. I was greeted promptly on the way in and several times while in the establishment. There is a good selection of Louisiana products, but not as much as I was hoping for. :) The place is about the size of a 7 -11 convenient store with a grocery section, a sit down eating area, a freezer section, and a deli style area with hot food products... I was super excited about the hot food!!!!! In the food section there was boudin, boudin balls, fries pork chops, cracklings, red beans and rice, cajun egg rolls, and much more. I went straight for the boudin and boudin balls. I got mild but spicy and pepper jack was available too. The boudin was good. I have had lots of boudin from many different Louisiana classics. I give the boudin a 7 out of 10. I enjoyed it and will definitely be going back. I also grabbed some frozen smoked sausage to take back home.
