Place is clean, wasn't very busy, 230 on a Thursday. Lady behind counter was okay, told her it was my first time there and she just looked at me and didn't recommend anything. Ended up with the turkey and gyro. Turkey was okay, nothing special, Gyro was tasty but was missing a little crunch. Maybe some diced cucumber would've been nice. It has the typical small deli layout with a simple decor. The service was prompt with a less than five minute wait. I have been wanting a Poboy sandwich for a little while. Passed by Paulie's today and made a U-Turn and went back. My wife and I went inside and received a friendly greeting. I had the Philly and my wife had the meatball. The Philly was ok, just a little light on the grilled onions, bell peppers and mayo. The Meatball was ok too, just the meatballs looked more like sausage. The bread was great and toasted nicely though. All in all it was not bad and I can say they did have some amazing looking desserts. Worth a try and my wife and both agreed worth stopping in again and trying a cold Poboy. read more

I've been on an effing hunt for a good muffuletta in Houston. What is it, you ask - a hot sandwich of Italian cold cuts grooving in mayo with olive spread. The whole muffuletta is the size of a cross-section of a basketball - it is muffing big. And it is so. Dang. Good in its sharp, chopped-olive glory that I had a small one for lunch and went back for the big one for dinner and then some. It's only $2 in difference but the quantity increase from the smaller sandwich to the full-size thing is by an order of magnitude. Frankly it's too salty for me to eat by itself - I grabbed another baguette from the HEB next door to chow with it. But! It's thin so you won't feel super guilty about the carbs or you won't need to scoop the middle out. The sandwich: I was craving meat so I went with the turkey, ham, bacon, and provolone sandwich with mayo. They give you a lot of meat and cheese. The sandwich was a good size. I ate a fourth and it was very filling. The bacon was smoky. Good flavor. The chips: The brand was Dirty and the salt n vinegar chips were tangy and potent. They also carry Zaps and Lays. They offer House of Pies pies. I got a sweet potato pie even though I don't like sweet potato pies. The food was good and the service was nice, however I didn't appreciate the staring of me taking my first bite and asking me how is it. Kinda awkward if you ask me... I had no idea who the women was but she was sitting in front of me. She just watched me eat and asked me questions like "How was the first bite? Is it still good? How'd you hear about us? Be honest, on a scale of 1-10 how great is it?" I normally don't mind these things but it was a little disturbing for someone just trying to enjoy their lunch. Maybe asking when I'm through eating, rather than as I'm taking the first bite... Besides all that noise, the turkey mufalleta was good and had good flavors. Jonesing badly for a muffuletta and did a search in YELP for options. Sadly only a few places came up. Haven tried a few suggestions, Paulie's was one I hadn't. The bread was fresh and tasty but not as thick as traditional Italian loaf. The traditional toppings of ham, salami, mortadella, and provolone were all fresh and in appropriate amounts/ratio. The only downside is a bit too much Mayo and too little olive spread. Next time I will request it that way. Their bread has a nice crunch on the outside while maintaining a soft interior and the size of the sandwich is very filling. I happen to stop by Paulie's Poboys to see how the sandwiches were and also I wanted to try something new too. The one thing I noticed right away was the feeling of a nostalgic sandwich shop with the sandwich board menu, the shelves for pickles and jarred items, and an open area to pick chips and drinks as well. I had to ask first for a suggestion on what would be a good choice. I was told by the manager behind the counter I should go with the supreme, if I was really hungry. I chose that and also the Philly. I am eating the Supreme right now and I can say this is a really good choice for sure. The Supreme has, "Extra imported ham, extra salami, extra provolone cheese, chow chow, mayo, & pickles. Also one thing I really thought was really cool was the art on the wall with the Houston team logos. This was a nice visit and I will definitely stop by again to try more of the selections. On a side note, this is actually my high school friend's family business. I was reminded because of my sister played basketball with her. It was a surprise to me and now I remember from way back. I've been on the hunt for a good Cuban for months. I've had Cubans from several different restaurants, most of them from actual Cuban restaurants. I've left disappointed almost every time. Each sandwich was missing something that Cuban sandwiches are "supposed to" have. Fast forward to today. I saw when looking at their menu that they had a Cuban that was right up my alley. I'm not big on mustard only so I usually like some mayo, to break up the "bite" from the mustard. This sandwich was everything. I happy danced while eating it and told my boyfriend I was going to drive back up to the restaurant to give the lady who made my sandwich a hug, COVID be damned. I had the philly hot Poboy combo. It came with a decent sized sandwich a bag of Zappa's chips and i fountain drink. No reflection on the restaurant I'm sure but my bag of chips were way to salty so I had to trash them. (Took my order to go) The sandwich had a nice ratio of bread to meat. There were onions and peppers and should have been topped with crunchy onions but i opted to not have those. The meat was seasoned well and tender. One of the peppers used had more of a tangy taste that I didn't really like. The guy behind the corner was very nice and accommodating. The place was really clean and organized, its a bit of a small space. There is in door seating. I may return to try another sandwich or possibly make adjustments to the philly. read more

Came here thinking I was going to get a New Orleans style poboy... with fried fish, shrimp or oysters but realized they only had fried shrimp. So I was a little disappointed at first but I decided to order some sandwiches. I love a good sandwich and they had some great options. They have hot and cold and several other meat choices like turkey, ham, chicken,etc. They also have a great special. If you buy any 2 sandwiches you get a free classic sandwich. Well I finally went back to Paulie's for a poorboy, and this time they regrettably had the meat I was trying to order a couple of months ago. The only saving grace for this was the bread. The meat must be the lowest level and cheapest the food distributor carries. The bread gives them one star, the rest of the ingredients keep it at one star. Extremely disappointed So manager of Paulie's just demonstrated his complete lack of customer service and concept of customer satisfaction, responded to my last review with"go eat a poorboy somewhere else". Well DUHH, had no intention of trying to choke down another low quality poor tasting sandwich of any kind from this establishment. Considering this is the same individual that flat out lied to me on the first response about them not having ingredients and now this flippant G A S attitude towards what customers think about his low quality food, it's obvious that he's not interested in what customers think only about money he can get from them. Seems that the manager of Paulie's is a little too defensive about his inferior product since any poor review is received with an attack from them instead of them wanting to find out how to improve and potentially provide a decent product. Took about an hour to get my food via uber eats, it looked like they got busy and forgot about my order. I called to double check they had received my order and within I'd say 5ish minutes my food was on the way. meat to bread ratio is heavy on bread, but a good sandwich. Probably won't uber eats them again because it was $17 for a sandwich, dag nabbit uber eats and your convenience. But definitely will stop by and grab a sandwich. Much better than subway, and probably a better value than jimmy johns. If I would've ordered in the store it would've been $10 and I'm full. The greatest thing is jimmy johns isn't open till 11 and these guys were able to hook me up with a sub before I had to go into work. Would recommend. read more

I haven't had a poboy I don't like so far. Good food! A lot of bread and not greasy or otherwise gross. Skip on the stuffed grape leaves. I got some and they were packaged in a small plastic bag. So all I could taste was plastic bag. :( read more
