It had been nearly 10 years since I last dined here, so I was genuinely excited to revisit a place I once enjoyed. Unfortunately, this visit left me pretty disappointed--and it'll likely be my last. I came for the $24 breakfast buffet, expecting something special--especially since it's connected to the Hilton. But what I got felt more like a fancy continental breakfast than anything memorable. They had all the basics: muffins, danishes, toast, oatmeal, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, fruit, potatoes, cereal, and a DIY waffle station. The only real highlight was the made-to-order omelette bar. Overall, the quality was just... meh. For the price and the brand, I expected a lot more. The vibe was quiet--almost too quiet. I arrived at 9 a.m. and there were only two cars in the parking lot. That should've been my first clue. If you're looking for a breakfast worth getting out for, I'd recommend exploring other local spots before committing to this one. read more

I liked this place for its breakfast. The breakfast was a nice buffet with custom omelette, bacon, sausage, hash browns, fruits and selection of beverages. I enjoyed the cheesy mushroom omelette a lot. The cook who made it did a great job. The waiting staff were very courteous and friendly. This is a nice restaurant adjacent to Hilton, and I am sure it serves the purpose to feed guests perfectly. I certainly recommend this place for breakfast. read more

Connected to a major hotel you would think that this place is dialed in. So in order: Food: Subpar Meat seemed very chewy, even with the filet. Twice bake potato, at $8 was mashed potato put back in potato skin. Cheese strips on top not melted and mash potato refrigerator cold. Service: Sat in bar and bartender was not attentive and bar phone rang, without answer, many times. IMO, not staffed properly. Ambiance: Western lodge motif which works well. I love this part of the whole dining experience. This place is a haven for guys, gals and even families, but, save your money as it is not worth the price. read more

Unfortunately I also have to downgrade this review as well. The restaurant was warmer than the hallways so that's a plus. They did sit us in front of the fireplace on both of our visits. The first night we arrived for dinner. Ordered the calamari and it was terrible. Seriously one of the most pathetic looking calamari dishes I've ever seen. Over breaded to sure... But also the presentation was all wrong. It was served on a plate and barely covered it. Very paltry. The sauce for it was pretty good & had a very healthy spicy kick. Luckily the biscuits & corn bread were really good. However I ordered a burger and my friend ordered the pork sliders and both of these were pretty good. The dinner waitress was also very good. Friendly and attentive. The next morning after finding out the lounge was not open on Monday we returned for breakfast. We were told to have the buffet... I think there was also a menu we weren't given a choice. The buffet was pretty hit or miss. The potatoes were very good. Cooked with cheese and served warm. The scrambled eggs were in a warmer next to the potatoes but were absolutely freezing. The bacon was pretty good but the sausage was terrible. I ordered 2 iced teas and 2 orange juice. Instead I receive 2 coffees. I could hand for my own orange juice, but the carafe at the buffet was empty. Service was very lackluster. Because of this we decided to take the entire staff when they arrived Monday night to another restaurant outside of the hotel. read more

When in Texas and you are a city girl but you want to experience " the Texas feeling "... this is it! It's located inside the Hilton hotel so that was an added bonus. But there is also a off street main entrance. Upon entering I felt I needed to have on boots , hats and gauchos. We was promptly seated and the area by the bar is amazing. It's again to " Texan". I ordered a Rio Ranch burger and O my gracious ( licking lips) can we say amazing. It came dressed in lettuce, tomato, bacon, onions and the hamburger was so juicy!! I had tater tots on the side and even they surpassed my expectations. My friend had the beef brisket, macaroni and with fresh green beans. The juices from the brisket made this plate so scrumptious. I was truly enjoying my meal and I realized that I had 1 bite left. When you see an empty plate your heart will break but your belt loop will remind you that's enough. This restaurant is pretty decent. I've only had it once and that's when I stayed at the Hilton hotel attached to it for my wedding. I will say the lady at the front is definitely not the most friendly... takes her job tooooooo seriously and made my guests feel uneasy. This review is only for brunch. I love the decor and atmosphere here. We discovered this brunch a few years back and spread the word. The options are plentiful and the staff is very nice. They always went out of their way to make vegetarian versions of any dish like the eggs benedict or salad. My favorite is the waffle in French toast station followed by The Omelette station. They have some fresh cream and fruits to top your waffle as well as chocolate chips. The center has grapefruits and some cheese potatoes and some biscuits and gravy. All were tasty. They also have a nice salmon area and some bagels where you can make your own lox. Everything is hot and fresh. The only thing I miss is the Migos from The Omelette station. They had a premade one in the middle which was good but not the amazing thing I remember in the past with corn chips and salsa. All in all I think this place is very worth it and there is a ton of stuff to try so come really hungry. I don't know about the restaurant during the days but their brunch items are all very tasty and good quality. Special shout-out: Mr. Pelo at the omelette station during brunch in Sunday was a true gentleman. Very friend and accommodating. My lady and I chose this place for our Christmas dinner tradition and were pleasantly surprised. It was quiet and warm. They seated us right next to the fire, making for a romantic atmosphere. The food was moderately priced and they cooked our steaks just the way we liked them. Their cornbread was exceptional. Service was prompt and friendly. And if you're looking for something Christmassy to do afterwards, the neighborhood right across the street really decorates well for Christmas. We spent time driving and looking at lights. This place is lovely! It has a country western feel and ambiance. John was our waiter and he is awesome. Very personable and great manners. He told us all the specials and was very helpful when we were making our food selections. My husband's steak was delicious! I had the mahi mahi which was great. Two words FRITO PIE! I came here to eat on my last night in Texas and it was conveniently located rite next to my hotel. I grabbed a table in the bar area where I was greeted by my waiter who was awesome and made my dining experience so much better. (no one likes eating alone ) I ordered a bud light, a Frito Pie and a country fried steak for my meal. The beer was at the table within minutes and shortly after came the delicious Frito Pie! It come out piping hot and loaded with chili, cheese and Fritos. The combination of crunch and spicy chili was a perfect combination and I plan on trying to recreate it myself soon. Once I stuffed my face out came my country fried steak. This thing was huge and covered in the most delicious batter sitting on top of a pile of creamy mashed potatoes and smothered with country gravy. The combination of all the flavors together was heaven in my mouth. I was disappointed that I hadn't come here to eat sooner. The waiter asked me if I wanted dessert but at that point I just couldn't fit another morsel in my stomach and I waddled back to my room in a food coma. Came on Mother's Day for early brunch. Arrived at 9:15 Mother's Day special started at 11. We had the regular brunch with powdered eggs, premade frozen pancakes, some still cold and moldy strawberries. At 10 o'clock they asked us to leave so they could set up for Mother's Day brunch. I got to enjoy a complimentary Sunday brunch here because I was staying at the connecting Hilton Hotel as a HHonors member - so keep in mind that my review is based on my experience of the Rio Ranch as a FREE brunch meal. I honestly thought that the food here was pretty good. They had a fresh omelet station where you have your omelet made as you choose your toppings (some of the toppings include: bacon, ham, shredded cheese, chicken, jalapenos, onions, green onions, sausage, cilantro, etc.). The omelet was actually pretty good and I love the man working the station! So nice. They had a great selection of food. There was a pasta salad that was pretty tasty, fresh vegetable mix, barbecue (good ole' Texas), biscuits w/ gravy, yogurt, fruit, grits, smoked applewood sausage, bacon, caesar and house salad, waffles/pancakes, scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes, etc etc ETC! We have only been here during their Sunday Brunch. They recently changed and raised the prices after 10:00AM and included three lunch items. The atmosphere is very nice. We have been quite a few times so the wait staff recognize us. I am learning Spanish, so one of the ladies speaks to me only in Spanish when we go. The food on the buffet is typical Brunch buffet food. The sticky buns are awesome. The ranch style hash browns are very good as well. I opt to have the omelette server make my eggs instead of digging into the big pot of scrambled eggs. Good food, fair price. We will continue to frequent this spot. read more

Three stars isn't bad, and it's honest for Rio Ranch. I've only eaten their Sunday buffet brunch, and as far as being connected to the hotel, it stands on its own as a nice restaurant. I've eaten their Sunday buffet several times, and the food quality and presentation have always been good. Traditional breakfast buffet items: a carving station, omelets to order, a decent fruit selection, tasty entrees which usually include at least one fish dish. Plenty of desserts when you're ready for them; who says you can't have pie with your scrambled eggs!? What's lacking is the service--slow at times and even listless. I'm not picky, but I don't like having to trip a waiter just to get a water glass refilled or prepare the check. It just depends on who you get, I guess. read more

I only come here for the fried chicken, and it is a very delicious fried chicken indeed. The portions are always more than enough (they give you tons of bisquits and honey before your meal anyway), and the chicken is wonderful! I recommend asking for extra gravy. I noticed this restaurant when I first arrived to Houston. I was searching to find a nice place for steaks, the only thing is sometimes it's hot or miss with steak houses. I think this one did a good job. While walking towards the restaurant, the air is filled with the aroma of smokiness from a hidden BBQ grill somewhere. It will take you back to those days where you've got your charcoal going and wood chips getting ready to grill up some mean steaks! As I walked in, I was greeted by a hostess who immediately sat me down and next up to my table was John. A very articulate and dramatic persona with some charm. He was the first to introduce himself and let me know about the soup du jour: tortilla soup or black bean soup. The ice tea I ordered came immediately- please note that there is a full bar in another section of this cowboy/western themed restaurant, so drink it up if that's what you're needing. I also received a small plate with one cornbread muffin and a roll with a side of soft butter. The cornbread was good. I'm not a fan of the roll. I started with the black bean soup. It's not spicy, which is great for me, but if you want some heat, ask for hot sauce. I also want to say, I did enjoy the flavor of the soup but there were no beans, I feel like they had been blended down into the broth, which was pretty good. Though, it was topped with cream chopped green onions, I felt that it need a little more texture - I would recommend small tortilla strips. I tried to sop up the soup with the roll, and I didn't care for it. Skip the roll. Then, the star of my dinner, the ribeye. Ordered rare, I cut into the steak with such ease it was effortless! The steak was flavored so well & the butter that came on the side was very delicious. I also ordered a side of asparagus that was grilled to al dente - and the stalks were huge! The Mac n cheese burnt my tongue. My fault. I should've waited but it was good too, perhaps a little bland and it wasn't a show stopping sort of Mac N Cheese, I feel they can take it to another level. Shout out to my waiter John , for such a nice dinner! I think this place is good, it has the potential to be great by redesigning their side dishes and condiments. Icky, hotel-attached restaurant. I should've know better but it was late, and I was lazy and starving so I marched my happy butt next door to order a sandwich. It was what you would expect if you travel during the week and have stayed at a hotel with a restaurant attached. It was kind of sad with only a few people there and one poor bartender doing the drink pouring and tending to the two or three tables. My sandwich was insanely expensive = $18 for a French dip and the meat was tough and the au jus was basically like jarred gravy. I'm giving two stars because it was edible and the décor was decent and the bartender (though slow) was a friendly and helpful gentleman. read more

For appetizer we had the fried calamari which tasted great but was slightly overcooked and chewy. We also ordered creamed corn as a side-- not good. Too soupy and a little on the salty side. I really enjoyed my time there! My server was the best almost i have ever had. Minimal talking but constant awareness of us. She had the skills when it came to being very discreet with me paying the bill so my sis wouldn't know! She was a pro at it. Wish I could've remembered her name. The food honey was yes!! I had their rainbow trout with lump crab on top with asparagus. Presented beautifully, came hot and was delectable. Not over-seasoned, but very flavorful; great hollandaise. I I think it was hollandaise. The asparagus had a beautiful perfection char that you could taste but remained al dente. The surroundings were cozy and lulled me into further comfort with the fireplace there. All they need it worse than hotel rooms in the back. Lol. And the bathrooms were clean and smelled decent.
