We were looking a new place to bunch today Sunday Feb 4th. This showed up on our search. We arrived at the location at 11:35 am and the gentleman at the door with a middle east accent was not very friendly at all. We let him know that it was our first time and how does it work, and his first answer was " what do you mean". We had to ask again and he said we pay $21 per person and get access. We came here for a work dinner. Overall, the food was subpar. I ordered the southern fried chicken sandwich. I gave it to my boyfriend and he didn't even finish it. (My boyfriend is greedy). I have gone here for Sunday brunch several times over the years. comparing the non-holiday weekend Sunday brunch at Rio Ranch to the brunches of other hotel restaurants, Rio Ranch has been the better bargain. The staff is very friendly and responsive. In my most recent visits, I have noticed that the brunch crowd is filling out earlier, thus they tend to shut down the brunch earlier. Soy milk is not available. On special Sundays, like Easter, Mother's Day, etc. prices are higher, and the crowds are a little too much. read more

Normally I do not like buffets and brunch buffets in the past have never been that fantastic. Until now! This was seriously awesome: food, service, and atmosphere. Top notch! Food: there was everything and anything you could imagine and hope for on a brunch buffet... beautfiul fresh fruits with juices, yogurts and cereals, english muffins, bagels, smoked salmon with all the trimmings, oatmeal with any and every topping imagineable. then hot foods like potato and egg casserole, fluffy biscuits with the best gravy (ever!!!!!!!) plump and juicy sausages, bacon, bacon, bacon, and more bacon... eggs benedict with beautiful hollandaise sauce, oven roasted potatos... and then there were the cooking stations!!! you could order fresh omelettes, breakfast tacos, pancakes, waffles, belgium waffles, mini pancakes, muffins, french toast, and more. Rio Ranch is one of those old reliable places that's been there seemingly forever, but that slips under my radar. So when a friend suggested it for dinner, I realized it had been the better part of a decade since I've had dinner there, so off we went. It was 8pm on a Friday night, and the place was almost empty. Never a good sign, especially considering how this restaurant used to be one with an hour wait on weekends. Regardless, we were seated, and we still got to wait. Our waiter was very friendly, but she was slow, and it couldn't have been because of the crowd. The food was OK. As I did on my last visit here, I ordered the chicken fried steak, which used to be one of the best anywhere. What came out was overbreaded, and overcooked, but with a decent flavor. For $17, it was a pretty poor value. The saving grace of the meal was the salad. The citrus-lime vinaigrette was delicious, and it brought back memories from my last visit here. Now that is an impressive salad dressing. Rio Ranch isn't bad these days, but it doesn't deliver food or a dining experience that measures up to its price. Tucked into the Hilton, Rio Ranch is worth finding. We started in the bar with cocktails and appetizers. One of my buddies though the wings were the best he had ever had. They had a hint of coconut that really worked with the BBQ sauce. We had a large group and everyone seemed to be happy. If my family and I ever feel like brunch, we go to Rio Ranch. They have a great selection as well as an omelet station which is delicious. The same man has been making omelets for I think 10 years. They have different pastries, fruits, yogurts and cereals, smoked salmon, bagels and toast, kinds of eggs, and even an area to make your own breakfast taco. For dinner, I have only ever had a steak because it has always been so delicious. The parking lot is massive, so parking is never a problem, and the staff is great. They do also take reservations which is wonderful if you're hoping to go on a Friday or Saturday night! Of those times when we need or want to remain overnight, we make an effort to stay at the Westchase Hilton to which this restaurant is attached. Therefore, we have the pleasant opportunity to dine at this restaurant. I know we have dined here for more than four years. As noted by other. Yelpers, the service is top notch. That means drinks are refilled promptly and the table is well policed by the waitstaff. Service of this type generally elevates the impression the diner is likely to hold. The food has never been an issue. Steaks are seasoned to a point of pleasant "heat," charred and delicately smoked to a savory ecstasy. Other entries are thoughtfully prepared, presenting well. Houston certainly has a surfeit of splendid eating establishments of which we partake and taste as opportunity presents (thank goodness for Yelp). However. Following a long day shopping and exploring Houston, supping at this restaurant and "bedding down" at the attached hotel is a little treat we both do so enjoy. read more

Went to Easter brunch today and it was the biggest waste of money ever. Maybe the food is worth it for the regular price of $15.95, but I was highly disappointed. Food was on par with Denny's or IHOP, and at $31.95 a person, way overpriced. I was excited about the lamb, and that was tasty. The mimosas were good. Wait staff had to be reminded several times about requests, didn't clear plates unless you asked, and the organization today was just chaotic. We were overcharged for drinks and I had to get the bill corrected, which just added to my annoyance. Rio Ranch gets three stars only because I've been to dinner there and it was fantastic. We went to dinner for Valentine's 2010 and had a wonderful prix fixe dinner with attentive staff and great cocktails. Basically, I'm just disappointed in this place. Had we not had such a great experience the first time, I would not have expected the same quality from Easter Brunch, which they failed to deliver. Poor, sad, mediocre place. Terrible food, terrible service and poor brunch options. We were there for Sunday brunch. To begin with, it was really hard to find out which of the many doors was being used as the entrance. There was no sign and neither one of them was working properly. Then, we were given a table and, even though the restaurant was not busy, it took at least 5 minutes for a server to come and OFFER us something to drink. We went to the buffet and when we came back we found out that other people had already been sat at our table. It was deplorable. Lack of organization, to say the least. And the funny part is: nobody knew what to do. Neither one of the servers, nor the front of the house. So, we were standing close to the table holding our plates and looking to each other until someone finally decided to give us another table. I ordered an orange juice - which was NOT FRESH - and it came in a badly cracked glass. I can't believe nobody noticed that! I had to ask for another one. Out of the few options they had for brunch, the only decent thing was the smoked salmon. The rest, I can easily prepare at home with more quality and eat it hot - if my intention is to have a simple brunch at home: eggs, sausage, and bacon. I have been to quite a few places for Sunday brunch, both in Houston and in Austin. This one was certainly the worst and I will never return. read more

Really needed some food therapy after busting my ass counting calories and working out as if I was training for the Ironman the past few weeks, and I'd heard good things about their brunch. The fruit was soggy, bruised, and had congealed into an unrecognizable pulp. The biscuits were burned. The eggs were runny. The bacon too crispy (is there even such a thing, you ask? I learned today that there is). It was clear that all the food had been sitting out since 7am when they first opened. The only redeeming factor, my husband claimed, was the omelette/pancake/waffle station. "Oh, you mean that window I stood at for two full minutes that I assumed was closed since no one ever came to offer their services?" I replied. Yep, that was the one. These poorly prepared aforementioned items were really the only options...the buffet was surprisingly limited for the outrageous price. When we return to the table, our waitress was there to convince us to return for the Sunday brunch. "It's the same price and has even more food!" she tells us excitedly. So why the hell isn't this buffet cheaper? And why are you still lingering at our table awkwardly staring at our baby while we're trying to eat? No seriously, we've stopped talking to you and are now staring at our food whilst shoveling it in our very hungry mouths, so why are you still here? We only come here for Sunday Brunch and we enjoy it. They have an omelet and pancake/ waffle/ French toast station. Lots of fresh fruit, oatmeal, yogurt, bread, cereal and also hot food like eggs Benedict, scramble egg, potatoes, bacon, sausage your typical hotel buffet but yummy! For lunch items they normally have two or three options (chicken or pasta) so it is mostly focused on breakfast items. I came here for a Sunday brunch on the morning after a friend's wedding. We were seated in a private room on the other end of the buffet. There was plenty of space to move around and the servers regularly filled our coffee, juice, and water. The food was solid and there was plenty to choose from. A word to the wise: there will likely be one long line that most people end up in, presuming you have to wait in it. This is for the omelet bar. I've had dinner here twice and breakfast 4 times while staying at the Hilton on business. Breakfast: the buffet is marginal. Cooked to order eggs were slow, and there is no backup scrambled at the buffet for people in a rush. Grits were runny, meats overcooked, breads & pastries not very fresh and not made in house. (Biscuits excepted) I have had much better at Hilton properties. Service was *abysmal*. Coffee was never refreshed any of the times I was there, my juice order was not followed 3 of 4 times, and my associate and I actually had to go up to the station to get service and utensils after having placed a drink order on two occasions. Dinner: The best of what they have are salads and appetizers. The house-made dressings are superb, and are what saves this place from being a one-star rating. My Chicken Fried Ribeye was under-seasoned and over-breaded. The ribs were adequate, but not worthy of being served at a Texas-themed restaurant. Since they have a wood grill, I may have just ordered the wrong things. Service at the bar was good both times, but once, the bartender tried to charge me for an extra beer that I did not have. read more

I am writing this review based upon a corporate private party event therefore the cost or regular menu does not play into rating. To start off, our party was provided a trio of appetizers that consisted of calamari, peppered shrimp and some kind of seafood salsa. The calamari was good. A lot of places can't get this right, but they do. The peppered shrimp was awesome and I rarely say that to anything. The seafood salsa was bland and very forgettable so basically we were batting 2 for 3 to start the meal. With a private (and somewhat large) party, we were (and understandably so) presented with a limited menu. I choose the New York strip and vegetables. Though the vegetables were a bit overdone, the steak was cooked correctly (Medium Rare) and tasted very good. The two young ladies servicing our group also did a very good job of keeping drinks filled and the overall service for dinner was well done. With the food and service that we were provided, I would not mind returning to try the regular restaurant. read more

Mesquitte Salmon Salad - 5/5 - stayed at the Hilton and popped in cause we were strapped for time. Surprisingly very good lunch salad. Love the avocado and Apple something vinaigrette dressing. I ate dinner here one night of my stay at this Hilton. The place looks fine but the service and food were terrible. I ordered a salad, then a center cut 6 oz filet and baked potato. I waited a long time for the salad, it never came and they brought the main course. I said "where's my salad?". The waiter looked confused, went away, and within a minute, brought the salad. As he took the main dish plate away, I told him I wanted a new steak prepared, as I didn't just want this sitting under a hot light. He didn't even respond to me. I ate the salad, and they must have been watching, as they brought back the main plate practically the moment I set down the salad fork. Sure enough, it had just been sitting under a hot light, as the scoop of flavored butter was all melted. The flavored butter was terrible, and the steak was overcooked (I had asked for rare) and very tough. Nobody ever came by to ask how my meal was. read more

First clue to not eat here should have been when I walked in on a Friday night at 5:00 PM and there was no one else in the restaurant! Food was just okay. Quantities are great, but quality was just eh. I had the Prime Rib. I asked for the end cut because usually that's the piece with the most spices and rub on it and there was barely any spice or rub!! I also ordered the lava cake and it was not good! It's supposed to be very chocolatey but that is not the flavor I got! Can't even describe the flavor! Took one bite and left it! And, service was very, very slow.! Second night ate there with my son because once again just way too tired to drive and once again food was just okay and again service was way too slow.
