The bagels here are very good. Let us be clear about that. Some are better than others. The plain bagels leave something to be desired but they know their way around blueberry and poppy. On that note I will give them a 3.25 with the potential for a 5 at times. I still think consistency is an issue. The price is slightly higher than what it used to be. All that aside: The cream cheese. The maple walnut and various flavors of cream cheese are all a 5. I have never been let down by the amount of, or the quality of the cream cheese. The business is under new ownership the last few years...the remodeling is beautiful and the food is still good, but the prices are really high now. I used to eat there every day for lunch but after a year of these new prices there's no way I can afford that now. The owner knows I am a regular customer and is not always that friendly- and sometimes doesn't acknowledge me at all. I still go occasionally, but I am mostly disappointed with the decline in friendly service by the owner. Looking for a bagel with a good chew? Don't care for big grocery chains that sell a lump of bread with a hole in the middle and called it a bagel? This bagel shop doing something right the bagels taste like bagels are suppose to. This visit was my first and I liked what I saw and tasted. This shop offers a large variety of bagels and spreads. I tried their veggie cream cheese spread. Hmm, tasted delicious and the plain spread was very good too. I am looking forward to trying other spreads soon. I noticed beside bagels they offer sandwiches I haven't tried the sandwiches yet but expect to in the near future. This place is little pricey but I think people get good value. read more

I'm not sure if I have anything to add that hasn't been said, other than to confirm it all as true. Chances are good that your order will come out of the oven as you stand in line. The pumpernickels are superb, my personal favorite is sesame. If you order a certain amount (two doz.?), they will slice them for free, otherwise there is a nominal fee. If you prefer them sliced all the way through, you must request it so. I was told a very sweet story by way of explanation for the 98% complete slice. A customer had a spouse who developed Alzheimer's, and got upset when bagel tops got separated from from the bottoms and didn't match up. So the Bagelry started cutting them almost completely through so the top would stay with the bottom until pulled apart. 'Nuff said. read more

I drove by here for months before I finally stopped in one day. I wish I had come here sooner! Don't let the modest exterior fool you. The Bagelry is a great spot! They have excellent bagels but they really slather on the cream cheese. I need to remember to ask for it on the side. They make all types of sandwiches and have traditional deli staples. Every time I've been here they have samples out which are always tasty. 4 stars instead of 5 because of limited seating and 3 PM closing time. There are only a couple of tables here so if it's busy (especially on weekends) plan on taking your food to go. Also the parking lot is cramped and its difficult to navigate and find parking when it's busy. read more

At first glance, The Bagelry appears to be a vertiable family business: personal touches, a certain level of organized disorganization. I ordered a breakfast sandwich and decided to take a chocolate muffin for later. The gentleman who took my order was very inviting. I got my order in about 10 mins. I've grown up eating Brooklyn and New Jersey bagels, and Bagelry bagels are the real deal. If you can take a hot, fresh bagel straight from the bag and eat it plain without any cream cheese, etc, and it tastes like heaven, that's a real bagel. You can find them here, made on site. Not to go unmentioned, their cream cheeses, deli menu, and other offerings also hit the spot. If that's not enough, the owners are very engaged with and supportive of their community. Fresh bagels, friendly employees are hard to beat. The fact that the staff is always friendly no matter how early you are in the store, is enough to earn your patronage. Appearances have changed within the past couple months since the owners have changed (I hope the previous owners are doing well in what they're now doing). New kitchen cabinets with granite countertops for the coffee station, changing main counter, refinished concrete floors with nicer bistro seating (i.e. only three sets) inside. I swear the everything bagel I had was slightly less dense than before but otherwise still chocked full of "everything" and just as delicious. I think the Bagelry is truly one of the undiscovered treasures of lower MoCo. People in the DC area complain a lot that there are no good bagel places, and it's true, we're not exactly NYC in that department, but the Bagelry is excellent. The Bagelry is a dream come true for anyone craving fresh bagels, deli meats, and desserts. Their selection is certainly not lacking in any respect. It's not hard to miss driving east on Randolph Rd. toward New Hampshire, right before the intersection. Turn right at Vital Way and look for the bold red lettering on a building on the right. We had to wait a solid 15 minutes for our order to be ready but it was SO worth it. I also imagine you can just call and order ahead of time to cut down on the wait. I ordered a reuben on an everything bagel, which made for a flavorful combination. This meal comes with a soda, as do several others. For a snack I savored a chocolate coconut macadamia nut cookie, and it was just as chewy and delicious as it sounds! I also came away with half a dozen bagels ($4.75) and some black and white cookies. The cookies were less cake-like and more like actual cookies. The icing was hardened and the cookie almond-flavored. The only downside is that there are no tables to dine in. Also if you go hungry, you're bound to buy way more than anticipated. :O) This may be a bit premature since I've only been once but I thing the Bagelry deserves the 5 stars for selection, service, price, and deliciousness. On my quest for the best bagel in the area I was really pulling for this shop due to it's close proximity to my neighborhood! It was not the worst, but it certainly does not top other shops in the area. I got my typical everything bagel with lox and cream cheese and the lox was not flavorful and a bit chewy. The bagel was fine, but definitely not a home run. I was hoping they would have some hot smoked salmon, but they were out the morning I went. Because of their proximity to my house I would consider returning if they had this in stock. read more

I was in the mood for a bagel.. Specifically a pizza bagel.. I ordered Pizza bagel with extra provolone and onions.. I got the extra provolone but I did not receive the onions on my bagel, therefore I just asked for them on the side.. they tasted ok like that.. I wasnt too disappointed because it tasted amazing anyways. Their bagels are amazing. So I got a poppy seed bagel. The scallion & veggie cream cheeses are flavorful and yummy. As a drink, I got hot tea. No real milk, just half and half. And only one type of sugar substitute. Its clean in there, staff is friendly, and food is good. Def will be coming back. read more

Although I had basically sworn off this place I came in a pinch and was impressed. Still far from the best bagel in the area but it was must improved. I've been back once since then and it was good again. That said I think most of the sandwhiches are overpriced compared to other bagel spots. I mean the place next to my work has cheaper prices and that's in the CBD, so they have higher rent to pay. (And better bagels) read more

Wow. Incredible. Great bagels and even better service. We asked to try some cream cheese flavors after we had finished our meal and they were very friendly and accommodating. Also, the cream cheeses were, in fact, delicious. Rocky road (excellent), bacon herb (remarkable). The only setback is that the bagels are very flavorful on the top half while the bottom is essentially naked. Also the coffee is not great but we didn't come here for caffeine we came here for carbs and the bagels are quality. read more

The most amazing bagel you will ever have, especially if it's hot out of the oven. Look for the "Hot Bagels" sign outside! I grew up just a few blocks from this bagelry, and my childhood was filled with hot doughy bagels every Sunday morning. I usually only get the cinnamon raisin bagel (I'm a simple bagel girl), which I eat immediately in the car if it's still warm. There's just something about the texture of the bagels here that other places cannot create. There's a chewiness to this dense and moist bagel that is addictive. I moved away from the DC area, and missed these bagels the most of all the foods in the area. I have moved back to the area now (in College Park), and now we make the 20-minute trek every few weeks to stock up on these. PS. To reheat, I recommend you toast them whole in your toaster oven instead of slicing them first. This recreates the crispy outside and hot chewy inside of the fresh ones at the store. read more
