They have the usual bagel flavors. I got a jalapeño cheddar bagel with egg cheese and bacon. Kinda expensive $8. Excited and hungry to try. My bagel tasted bland. I was expecting spicy and a cheesy bagel. The bagel did taste fresh and like it was made in house, it needs seasoning. However im try again. The employees are very fast and friendly. This is a solid bagel place. The bagel's are light, chewy, and made fresh daily. The sandwiches are good. I had the smoked salmon, capers, tomato, and red onion bagel. It was very good but could have used a bit more cream cheese. It doesn't measure up to New York city bagels but for around here, these are pretty good. The restaurant is a clean, no frills kind of place with just three small tables indoors and a few more outside. If you are in the area, I would definitely recommend this place for bagels. read more

Bagels are AMAZING. But I didn't love the lox sandwich. Way too much cream cheese and the ratio of toppings was a tad bit off. The lightly toasted texture was perfect but it made the cream cheese warm and soft and I personally love it cold. Looking for a new bagel place (new to me, at least - Neals has been around since the 1990's). Popped in this morning for an onion bagel toasted with veggie cream cheese and tomato. ($4.25 plus $0.75 for the tomato). I already had my morning coffee, so I bought a bottle of water. It's about 10:00 am on a Thursday. Place is pretty busy, with most of the orders being for carry out. Place is bright and comfortable. Pretty inviting, although the counter worker wasn't very warm or friendly. Anyway, the bagel is large and toasted ok. I would say it's a bit doughy - maybe a little bit longer in the toaster would improve on that. The vegi cream cheese has bits of vegi in it, and is smooth texture (no vegi chunks). I liked the cream cheese. In the restaurant, there's a sign saying that toppings are free (there are prices by some toppings, but no price next to tomato, onion, cucumber, etc). I was charged $0.75 for tomato and then realized that the sign must be referring to toppings on deli sandwiches, not bagels. If you order online, it's clear there's a $0.75 charge for tomato on the bagel. There were three slices of tomato on my bagel so I'm not complaining about the portion. But the sign for in-person ordering is misleading. I wasn't expecting to be charged. (Some bagel places charge for onion/tomato and some don't.) The bagel/cream cheese combo here is good. I wouldn't say it's superior to other bagel places in the area, but a good choice if you're in the neighborhood. Next time I'll try the coffee. read more

Place is a 3.5 star location but did not want to give it a 3 star. Very neighborhood oriented. Staff was friendly and place was very clean. I got the rainbow bagel, looks cool, taste the same. After working on the Top 100 Bagel Shops in NY list... I was obviously craving bagels. And I found myself, and a friend, walking past it after getting some lobster rolls from the Cousins Maine Lobster truck that was just parked in the Kentlands for the day. I have to say.. the bagels I got were QUITE good. They were BIG and soft and had a nice chew to them. They honestly give Bethesda Bagels a run for their money. I think the most impressive thing I picked up there was their challah though. They had a long table near the entrance that was stacked with regular and cinnamon raisin challah. My family was about to celebrate Rosh Hashanah, so I picked up a regular loaf and literally ate it 3-4 days later. Even waiting that long, it was some of the best challah I've had in recent memory. It was so soft and fluffy with those signature strandy crumbs that I think make a challah what it is. It was really nice and eggy inside too. I'm not quite sure how often they do challah, but I need to find out. I live so close... that I might just be detouring for a weekly challah if they make it on a regular basis. But I could also see going back there for bagels as well. The woman at the cash register was super friendly and was patient with me as I waffled in between several bagel, challah, and cream cheese types. I asked her which were the freshest bagels and she said that all of them come in every morning. So they arn't cooking throughout the day, but I got my bagels at around 1pm, had my first bite at around 3 and it was absolutely delicious. I even had one the next day and it was tops. First time visiting this establishment. They have a wide variety of bagels, spreads, and deserts along with coffee, soda machines, and drinks . I had lock & cream cheese on everything bagle. It hit the spot I've been craving for a while. In my opinion, for a one-off purchase, I think my sandwich and coffee were reasonable priced. I love the decor bagel wallpaper, seating inside seats, roughly 14 people. Additional outdoor seating for about 8 people (2 per seats). Overall this bagel shop is very clean and well maintained. This is a tricky one in more than one way. I'll explain. For service, the lady at the counter wasn't super friendly until she saw me taking a photo. Therefore, I can't say for sure of her friendliness was genuine. For food, I got three bagels (two for me and one for my mother who lives in a home nearby). One of my bagels was toasted (poppy) and was quite tasty. The other bagel (plain) wasn't toasted and the first bite was blah. I even said, "Blah" out loud while eating it at the counter, then covered my mouth in disbelief of my blurtation (if it's not a word, it is now). The strange thing was that every bite I ate of that plain bagel got better. We went from a 6 to an 8.5. The toasted poppy was an 8.9 the whole way. Price for three bagels (and one free plastic knife): $9.17. Recommended but with tepid enthusiasm. read more

1st time at their new location. Was it my imagination that I could smell their delicious onion bagels 2 stores away? I came by this time to pick up bagels for a trip to Austin to visit my daughter (Texas bagels AREN'T bagels). Her special request. The new place is so new! Love that they now have seating, both inside and outside. Although, I've always brought bagels to eat at home. I went there today to order lunch and the guys behind the counter were so friendly made me exactly what I wanted on the sandwich actually gave me a pickle which I didn't really want, but it's always nice to have a pickle with your sandwich. Took it home and there was enough, whitefish salad on the sandwich for me to make a second sandwich Tomorrow. For $10 I feel like I got two sandwiches in one. First time here. I ordered a standard everything bagel with Cream Cheese. The bagels are really big and thick. Perfect amount of cream cheese. I enjoyed the crusty texture on the outside and the dense doughy taste on the inside. Coffee was good solid coffee. Nothing particularly special, but a solid cup of coffee with some syrups and some milk options. Will definitely be back! read more

This is only about the bakery items. I brought home some chocolate top cookies and some rainbow layer cookies. They were both hard as a rock. When I went back to the store, I was told that they get that way quickly. I can tell you that the rainbow cookies at Gemelli's, Attman's and Bageltowne are never this way. It's a pretty modern and clean interior with a few fun touches (the neon light encircled bagels in the walls and the donut shaped lights were my favourites) but it lacked personality that I tend to enjoy when it comes to bagel shops. But who cares, their bagel sandwiches are great and we will be back! What we got: Belly lox & cream cheese on an everything flagel - 4* when I asked the difference between lox and belly lox I was told belly lox is saltier so I decided to give it a try. I've also never had a flagel before and was intrigued. They have everything, sesame, and poppy for the options which was a no brainier choice for me. I love my everything topping. The sandwich came out cut in half and stacked on top of each other wrapped in tinfoil. Different, but easy to work with. While the flagel was good I think I'll stick with bagels in the future, I like the thicker airy dough better. The belly lox did have a nice salty flavor but it got a bit overwhelming halfway through. Sausage, egg & cheese on a honey wheat bagel - 4.5* the sandwich came out with just the top bagel cut, not the interior or bottom bagel. A little annoying to try and rip everything (eating on the go) while it's piping hot and burning fingers. The sausage had fantastic flavor and the eggs tasted and looked fresh, not premade and heated. It would've been an absolutely stellar sandwich if either the sausage had been bigger or there had been two patties inside. read more

Picked up sliced bagels, lox and whitefish salad to go. When I got home I took the bagels out to toast them. The everything bagels were sliced very asymmetrically so one half was really thick, and they were smushed and soggy like not fully cooked. All three of the everything bagels were like this. I ordered a sausage breakfast bagel and a chocolate bagel on the side and it took forever to get my order. Ppl were coming in, ordering and just asking for their order bypassing everyone. After a while I did the same and still waited. When I finally got my order, I left only to find minutes later the chocolate bagel was missing. How is there only one person making all the orders (online and in person) when there's 4-5 cooks ? The food was really good tho. The bagel was moist and tasty. I never got my chocolate bagel in the end the restaurant was crowded and I was on the clock. They need to organize better. Maybe it's better at other locations read more

Ordered through DoorDash and the bagels weren't toasted at all for some reason, they were soggy and relatively flavorless. I shouldn't have ever gone anywhere else but Ize's bagels in Rockville. Honestly such a waste of money, I was so incredibly excited for the variety of sandwiches (breakfast sandwiches & lunch) and they were so awful. A hidden surprise in the Maryland suburbs of DC, Neal's Bagels are handmade, boiled, baked in the time honored method. I am a native of Manhattan where there are zillions of bagel joints, including the venerable H&H on Broadway. I used to go there every Saturday night for my bagels to eat as I read my Sunday NY Times. I am telling you, however, that Neal's beats most of the NYC bagels and they do it with hard work and excellent customer service. I wish long life to this business. L'chaim. read more

I went in and there was a worker there who could have said "I will be with you in a min" or something like that, instead he did not even look up and left me standing there for a while. Came here on a Friday morning and it wasn't as crowded as I expected. Service was good, I was met with a smile and they took my order quickly. The bagel sandwich I got was amazing! I did get 6 bagels to go as well for the weekend and the next day when I went to bite into my bagel after roasting it and dressing it up with all the things, they were ROCK HARD! One day old bagels going hard that I spent quite a bit on was extremely disappointing. Honestly I'll be back for the Turkey bacon, egg and cheese but the bagels don't last.
