I wanted to like the dinner entrees because I can walk here, and have always had a positive experience at the HH bar and breakfast, but I do not recommend eating dinner here. Liver and onions: 3/10 (my dads 67th birthday and he said it's the worst liver and onions of his life) Fish n chips: 8/10 (it's 2 nice thick pieces of cod) Chicken tenders: 6/10 (over breaded and dry) Land and Sea: 6/10 (wings not crispy, rolls soggy and mostly cheese, barely any artichoke or spinach 4/10) Mushroom Bowl: 4/10 (zero watermelon radish, looks nothing like the photos) Service: 6/10 ( waitress never came back after dropping food until entrees were finished so we couldn't even address the issues) Manager; did her best, came by without being requested. The location is huge, with seating inside the Mall, inside the location and outside by the water. Service was good (but not great). The food was good (but not great). Sorry to be a downer on their rating. I had the Philly Cheesesteak omelette. My wife had the Great American. I wasn't a big fan of the potatoes. I should have gotten the fruit. After visiting Silver Diner twice last year, I have come to realize that it has definitely grown with us. They're not just about locally grown anymore, they're a little fancier now. The first time, my husband and I popped in for Happy hour while waiting for a table at Guapos. They have great happy hour deals starting at 3 pm M-F that I feel like we don't hear enough about! Since we were waiting on a table for dinner, we did not partake in any of the food specials although we were tempted to. We had a drink each given the little time we had. Prices were great! Bar wasn't really too busy at the time we were there so bartender was multitasking and it took us a while to get his attention. While dining in for brunch with friends the second time, I saw ads for adult milkshakes and Wagyu steak! Can't say I remember them having these on the menu back in the day. I tried the shakshuka, my husband had the steak and eggs, and we got the ricotta-lemon pancakes for the table. We both really enjoyed the meals we got. The lamb sausage shakshuka was light but filling at the same time. It was a great option for me! The pancakes had great flavor but were a little dry. We also ordered Atomic Bloody Mary's. They were actually spicy and had depth. Definitely a place to get bloody marys for brunch if that's your vibe. I accidentally left my gloves there at brunch. Overall, I had a delicious experience at this Silver Diver. I'll say this location definitely matches the Silver Diner brand. Fortunately for my visit (around 9 am on a snowy Sunday), I did not have to wait at all to grab a spot at the bar. Actually, I was surprised that this location was pretty empty during my visit. This experience was a bit different to my regular Silver Diner where the line extends outside of the restaurant and into the parking lot. A key difference between this location and the one that a visit more frequently is this restaurant has outdoor seating with a view of a lake, which probably is really nice during the warmer months. Ok, so the lake probably is a retention pond, but it's the thought that counts. Since this is a local chain (nothing wrong with that, IMO), the menu items are pretty much the same as the other Silver Diners in the area, so there should not be too many new surprises. For my meal, I went with the waffle, eggs, and bacon combo. The food was delicious and what I expected based on my previous experiences at other Silver Diners in the area. The waitress asked if I wanted my bacon crispy, but for me, I thought the bacon was a little too crispy. For my next visit, I'll be sure to stick with regular, "non-crispy" bacon. ;) Speaking of my waitress, who went by Z, I thought she was a wonderful server and constantly checked in to make sure everything was going well with my meal. My meal was about 15 bucks (without tip), which I think is pretty standard in this area. While I probably would not go out of my way to visit this location, it's a nice place to have breakfast if you are in the area. read more

This was my first time visiting a Silver Diner. It was a pretty full house. We were seated rather quickly and greeted promptly, offered water. We ordered the western omelette with cheese, burger, and a side of silver dollar pancakes. After on/around 15-20 min our food came out. He enjoyed his burger, I munched on his fries which were perfectly fried and salted. My omelette and home fries left a lot to be desired, pretty bland. The side biscuit though? So good, would absolutely get a biscuit and gravy entree next time. The silver dollar pancakes were very dense, assuming frozen and heated not made on the spot. I love a great diner. Silver diner never really disappoints. However, my last visit wasn't the best experience. The food was great as always however, the service was less than desired. I ordered the chicken and pecan waffles and my dad ordered eggs over easy with bacon and rye toast. The chicken and waffles was delicious. I am not usually a fan of nuts but it added great flavor to the waffles. The fried chicken could have been seasoned a bit more. However, it was a good dish. The eggs over easy and bacon was cooked to perfection. The ambiance and atmosphere was great. We visited on Sunday so it was a bit crowded. However, we were able to be seated fairly quickly. The hostess and managers were very friendly. Our waitress was not as friendly unfortunately. Our waitress was very short with us when we gave our order. Also, it took a bit of time for us to receive our beverages such as coffee and water which caused our beverages to be a less desirable temperature. I was hoping that we would receive a friendly waitress because service is half of the experience when you are patronizing a restaurant. Overall, we had a good time visiting Silver Diner. We were outside in their newly renovated patio. The service was wonderful. The music was a little too loud since we were seated right under the speakers. We started with strawberry shake to share and they even split it in 2 glasses. Delicious. We also got the chicken tenders and the Green goddess lobster salad special. The tenders were solid, maybe just a tad on too crispy. I would not order the salad again. This was my first visit to the Gaithersburg location. I ordered my favorite: Chorizo Hash. The dish was different from my many experiences at the Rockville location: The hash was loaded with hot sauce, there was rice in the hash, there was NO goat cheese. I spoke with the wait person who went back to the kitchen to speak with the staff. She told me that the Hash does, in fact, contain rice. I told her that I had NEVER received a serving with rice in it at the Rockville location. She said that this was the way that it was made and that the other locations were making it wrong! REALLY!!! The dish was not enjoyable with a starchy taste which offended my Paleo palate. When I searched the internet about rice in the dish, the following came up: No, Silver Diner's Huevos Rancheros does not contain rice.The dish (currently named the Organic Bison Huevos Rancheros) is made with crispy whole wheat tortillas, a chorizo hash featuring organic bison, cage-free Amish eggs over-easy, peppers, salsa roja, scallions, cilantro, goat cheese, and guacamole. One of the biggest things is customer service. We had a party of eight and were told the wait time will be 15 - 20 minutes. So I had my family look over the menu. I came back to the counter and the manager told me it will take 10 minutes, we had been waiting 25 minutes already. We finally got seat and waiting another 10 minutes just for our server. We ended up ordering everything at one time. But that still didn't work because we received our food five minutes after we got our dinner. Now the food. The food is always amazing. Loved my oreo milkshake and my country fried steak! Most my friends' dishes were decent as well (except for the crab cake melt was bland & lobster au jus was too salty). Surprised at how flavorful their burrata bruschetta appetizer was! My party was a group of 6, but they stuffed us in a booth that was probably only for up to 4 (maybe 5 if you had small kids), so we were a bit snug as we ate. Silver Diner's location in Rio is the perfect place to stop by after climbing at Sportrock. Silver Diner is open late so if you stop by to climb after work, you can certainly grab a meal at Silver Diner after. I was really impressed with how much the manager on duty came to check on tables. He was friendly and so attentive to the guests. Our server was also pleasant with a cheery disposition. She took our order easily and had no problem splitting the check amongst the 3 of us dining together. Silver Diner is VERY vegan friendly. They mark their menu clearly showing what items are vegan and they have so many options. They even have 3 plant-based milkshakes to choose from. I ordered the Minty Grasshopper shake with Maker's Mark added on to make it an adult milkshake. I also ordered a side of fries because I love mixing my sweet with some salty. The milkshake was fantastic! I cannot say enough good things about it. There were chunks of Oreo cookie bits, and the chunks were small enough they did not clog the straw. The shot of Maker's Mark was strong yet didn't interfere with the creamy dairy free goodness of the shake. I love that Silver Diner also gives you extra milkshake in a metal cup so you can essentially have 2 shakes with the purchase of one. My only disappointment was with the French fries. We arrived at Silver Diner around 9pm and maybe the French fries just were not fresh. They tasted like they were reheated or microwaved. You know when you microwave French fries and the soft potato inside pulls away a little from the once crunchy exterior? That is how these fries tasted. I am hoping it was just an off day for the fries, but I am hesitant to order them again. Overall, I will certainly come back to Silver Diner. That milkshake was too good to not get again. Additionally, I want to try more of their vegan options like their vegan taco bowl and vegan eggs benedict. I have been here a few times in the past few months & was recently there for Mother's Day brunch! We expected to have a long wait time but thankfully we got seated immediately. The server & the manager were all very attentive. We knew it was a packed house but our food came out in a timely order, and it was delicious. The mimosas were also very tasty. This is possibly one of my and hubby's fave place. Flexitarian offering on orders is a big component. Gluten-free and dairy-free options with amazing flavor of food is amazing! My favorite is the Skewered Shrimp Bibimbop with only 600 calories and bursting with flavor. This visit we had breakfast menu and I got the Bay Benedict and he got the Corned Beef Hash. Too yummy and I enjoyed every bite! My husband gets his regular dose of gluten-free brownies day or night. The staff are all friendly and the manager comes around and checks on everyone. This location is a very popular space in the Rio complex of eateries, shopping and other entertainment experiences. The biggest issue to highlight is parking- be ready to need to be super patient to find parking. There is a garage very close by- the one nearest the theater, but there are always so many people there! That being said, Silver Diner is fantastic down to earth comforting food. There's nothing too crazy, and everything is well prepared and fresh. That's really the goal for any eatery, right!? After that, the service should be informed, patient and kind, as they are here. There is a lot of seating, especially in the warmer weather as you can sit outside and inside. So, it's not a problem getting a table. The staff here have lots to do, hustling about, but they are pretty attentive. The place is clean and spacious, and feels like you can comfortably dine here for as long as you like. I've never felt pushed or rushed to finish my meal because they're trying to get another seating from our space. That's always a bonus! My food choice here is always the same, but I'm happy with just a salad and maybe a side of other vegetables like fries or edamame. Milkshakes here are rich and filling, taking me to a childhood place of happiness, as I don't think about the calories there. All in all, the menu is extensive, so anyone you dine with will be able to find a meal here. That might require a change or substitution to a menu item, or a pairing or more of smaller dishes, but it can accommodate all eaters and diets. I'm sure to be back here one day! read more

My first time at this location because we were meeting with friends and it's more convenient. It's in Rio next to the movie theater. We went around dinner time and luckily didn't have to wait because when we left, there were people waiting. So I would probably do a reservation just in case if you go during dinner time. We ordered the chipotle salmon and shrimp, cheese fries, chilli, and I think my husband got the turkey platter? The food was just okay. My salmon and shrimp were bland and didn't really have much flavor. I had to dip it with the cheese that came with the fries for some flavor lol. We also got the nutella banana milkshake and that was good though! I would get that again. Service was okay. The staff stopped checking on us after we got our food. Went here last night for dinner with a friend before a movie at the AMC. We arrived around 6 and our movie was at 7. Luckily, the staff moved quickly and we were able to get in and out under 45 minutes. Our waitress checked on us often and we even had a visit from the manager, which is always nice. I got the crab cake and mashed potatoes. It was delicious! Definitely nice for a cold winter day. I like Silver Diner because they tend to change the menu often so you can always try new things. I have been to Silver Diner's across the metro area. Most of my visits have been 3-4 stars. Yesterdays visit was a 1 star. The food was "meh" nothing to write home about. The full salad was just as large as another guests half salad. No one at our table had great things to say about the food. It was just ok. The worst part was the service! We were a party of 6. The restaurant was not that crowded and there appeared to be plenty of staff. The ordering was challenging as it appeared that the hand held device that our server used was extremely slow in entering the orders or difficult for her to use. We waited a bit longer than I would have expected for the food after placing the orders. However, the absolute worst part was that the food came out in dribs and drabs. One or two dishes came out ..and we waited. Then another one came out...and we waited. We all wanted to be polite and so we waited for everyone at the table to get served. It was seriously every bit of ten minutes from the first meal being served to the last. By this time several of our dishes had gotten cold! The server came by as we were finishing up our meals to ask how everything was. The manager came by and one of the guests wanted to share his opinion, but was reluctant to do so in front of the others at the table. Had brunch on a Sunday and the place was pretty packed. Service was good but a bit slow which was understandable considering how busy they were. The manager and shift supervisor were both very active in supporting the rest of the staff during this busy period and greeted us during our visit. We had the Belgian waffles, pancakes, and omlettes. Everything was prepared as requested and we were satisfied with the quality of the food. The bruschetta w/pesto and burrata cheese was delicious. It was fresh made and none of the flavors were overpowering. Next was the lamb meatballs on a bed of spinach, topped with marinara sauce and goat cheese with taziki sauce and pomegranate seeds on the side. Really great flavors that came together nicely. Silver Diner continues to impress me every time that I come here. The head chef is from Europe and you can see the influences of the flavors and combinations in many of the dishes. My companion had ordered the corn beef hash which was delicious and warmer than Luke warm lol. Our service during breakfast was pretty standard. We order they bring. Although she only dropped off the food and left. And never came back to check on us or refill our coffees or water. That's fine maybe she was busy. Although it was not busy at all. Coffee though was hot and strong. Dinner was better service and food (4/5). I had the Cobb salad and my companion had the plant based eggs Benedict. I tried the plant based Benedict and thought it was so delicious and unique, and temp was hot as it should be. The cob salad was great and delicious no complaints. Service was excellent. So I have frequented Silver Diner in Rockville for years. It is one of my favorite restaurants. I tried the Silver Diner in Gaithersburg this weekend and loved it!! It has great outdoor seating. The bar seating has indoor and outdoor seating in an L shape which is great in warmer weather. We sat at the bar indoors but close to the outdoor section. It was the best of both worlds because we had a/c and shade but also a cool beeeze coming in from the outside and also a great view of the lake. I felt like I was at a bar at the beach! The food was top notch just like the Rockville location and the service was excellent. This is going to be a new favorite place for me. read more

It doesn't have all the traditional flavors I was expecting from a shakshuka, but for someone not used to shakshuka they would probably like it. I usually get the avocado toast with salmon which is a pretty solid choice. Overall the location is nice it's usually pretty clean and service is ok. Don't expect anyone to come to your table with a smile on their face, but they usually provide decent service. read more

7.27.23 My colleagues and I came for lunch and we had a party of 7. They don't take reservations, but I called in advance so they could put a table together for us. Initially I told them 9, but there were two last minute no shows. I was a bit annoyed that when I arrived the table hadn't been put together. Fortunately most people in my party were late so it was fine. They have lunch blueplates which are select items for $12.99. I selected the fish & chips. Fish that I generally have at restaurants are beer battered, but they prepare here with cornmeal. I was not a fan of the cornmeal or the spice they used on it. My colleague ordered the same and returned it as she didn't like it. My colleagues all seemed to like their meal. My only suggestion is that they use different cups. There was so much condensation that it left a puddle of water on the table. Server was friendly, but she could have come around more frequently to check on us. It was just an average dining experience in terms of the food and service. I wish I had gone with the waffle, eggs, and bacon, which I am confident that I would have enjoyed more than the fish & chips. read more

Their milkshakes were excellent, which is about all there was to salvage the rating. We love this spot and go very often. The staff is nice, it's always clean, and the ambiance is great. Family friendly. I love how fresh the ingredients are and how great the menu is!
