*MY REVIEW IS BASED OFF MY EXPERIENCE AND THEIR HAPPY HOUR MENU. Service: I've been here a few times in the past but it seems as though service has continued to decline. The host wasn't very helpful when asking him about the menu, we were directed to ask our server before being seated. The bartender was nice enough to wait on us until our actual server came. Our server seemed confused and inattentive. We were also left with finger food with no utensil or Napkins. I know it's just "finger food" but it was messy finger food and still napkins would have been nice at least. Then when looking for anyone, they were all busy doing their huddle. Why they would leave their guest unattended or not check on them before their huddle is silly... Food: Although we just had "finger food" from the happy hour menu. The old bay wings were pretty good, seasoned well and crunchy. The buffalo tacos had way too much meat and lacked all the other toppings. My partner and weren't too fond of it all. & the cheese on the cheese fries weren't as expected. The cheese was shredded cheese that tasted like it had sat out a little too long or as if they just sprinkled it over hot fries. Their pink lemonade with vodka wasn't too bad. I enjoyed the drink but they could've knocked off a couple more dollars. It's a pretty basic drink and isn't worth the price for happy hour. Ambiance: The outdoor seating is beautiful. It is located right next to the water. & it's nice that they also have a bar attached, that way if something is missing and you can't find anyone, you can go up to the bar and get it yourself. read more

Food was fine - not great, but not bad. Ambiance was very nice, sat in the new patio area. Most of the employees seemed fine except my server was terrible. Friendly enough but did not put in one order correctly, never checked on us after we got our food, never offered to refill waters nor other beverages and only came to the table when I flagged him down. Also, dogs (of all sizes) are allowed on the patio. I am not a fan of this at any establishment that serves food. I would not recommend this restaurant over the others at Rio, but it'd be ok if it's the only one that had a table. read more

This continues to be a place that fits for everyone, including a family member with a severe walnut allergy & a vegetarian family member, plus the rest of us! Tried the Triple Pickled Fried Chicken sandwich for the first time. It's huge! Come hungry. Perfectly cooked chicken and not greasy at all. Removed one of the chicken pieces to eat as a sandwich and then enjoyed the second by itself! They didn't have the most disgusting restrooms I've ever seen, so I'm bumping this review up to two stars. Other than that...I'm not sure which was worse: the food or the service. I ordered the Philly steak omelette, but what I received was a pile of dried out, week old cafeteria "meat" (God I hope it was meat) with a layer of scrambled eggs on top. Unless their chef has a severe brain injury, I don't know how that could be construed as an omelette. Visual appeal and texture aside, the flavor (or lack there of) was truly dreadful. I don't want to say this was the worst thing I've ever put in my mouth (insert distasteful joke about an ex-boyfriend here), but for sure would not recommend anyone pay money to expose their taste buds to that crime. Perhaps if I had a glass of water to rinse down the dried out dregs of a wasted animal carcass it wouldn't have been so bad, but alas, the service was so shoddy I couldn't even get a water refill. Credit where credit is due: I don't believe all of the screaming children in the restaurant were related to our server or the chef, so at least there is one failure that was beyond their control :) read more

I know Silver Diner has been around forever, but I feel like their Rio location has a different vibe than the typical SD franchise. The ambiance is pretty calm and quiet for a family-friendly restaurant. The service has also been consistently strong every time I have been. They have $5-8 appetizers and drinks on the weekdays, which is always fun. I most recently had their Brussels sprouts and hickory smokehouse burger for ~$25. I was craving breakfast for dinner, but their breakfast combo options weren't super flexible (didn't have many combos). The burger was stacked with caramelized onions and bacon. Both items were solid and honestly better quality than some of the "nicer" restaurants at Rio (True Food Kitchen :/). read more

We enjoy silver diner as a comfort meal or when we can't decide where else to go. The chicken tenders are especially flavorful and crispy! I enjoyed the light lemony flavors in the Greek salad and crunchy pita chips with hummus. The servers were very attentive and friendly. Service was fast despite it being a holiday weekend. Even though it was busy the ambiance was not stressful or loud. We always enjoy their milkshakes made from Tillamook ice cream as well. read more

I have not been to a Silver Diner in a long time and I was very impressed with my visit. It's a large dining space so even on a Saturday morning we had no wait time. The service was great with a very attentive server and I loved the extensive menu they offered. I couldn't help myself so I ordered off of a seasonal menu and had the crab Benedict. It was wonderful! We came here for brunch before seeing a movie and everything was delicious. This is one of those places that could have fallen off the wagon of exciting places to eat at, but they've really updated their menu and everything was delicious. I have been to Silver Diner's across the metro area. Most of my visits have been 3-4 stars. Yesterdays visit was a 1 star. The food was "meh" nothing to write home about. The full salad was just as large as another guests half salad. No one at our table had great things to say about the food. It was just ok. The worst part was the service! We were a party of 6. The restaurant was not that crowded and there appeared to be plenty of staff. The ordering was challenging as it appeared that the hand held device that our server used was extremely slow in entering the orders or difficult for her to use. We waited a bit longer than I would have expected for the food after placing the orders. However, the absolute worst part was that the food came out in dribs and drabs. One or two dishes came out ..and we waited. Then another one came out...and we waited. We all wanted to be polite and so we waited for everyone at the table to get served. It was seriously every bit of ten minutes from the first meal being served to the last. By this time several of our dishes had gotten cold! The server came by as we were finishing up our meals to ask how everything was. The manager came by and one of the guests wanted to share his opinion, but was reluctant to do so in front of the others at the table. Sad to say, it was a memorable experience for all the wrong reasons. :( read more

[Pandemic review - 2020] This is the Rio location. We can during the pandemic and were seated outdoors. The server got our order in quickly and food came out promptly. The drinks came out first which was great. I got a classic burger and fries. I really like how they served it (see pics). They separated the onions and pickle in case folks don't like those items. (I'm guessing enough customers don't want it for them to serve it like that.) Fries came wrapped in paper to absorb excess oil and in a metal cup. Burger was cooked well and stacked. Patty was juicy and flavorful. Fries were fantastic. Fresh, hot, crispy - how all fries should be. My friends were satisfied with their meals as well. I think it is on the pricey side, but at least I felt like I was getting my money's worth. read more

I've generally always been a fan of Silver Diners. So I was glad when they opened one nearby. I like the easy access and location, and they have plenty of seating options. I've been to this location a few times and have always experienced good service. I appreciate the variety of options throughout their food menu, especially dietary/allergy restrictions. Anytime I go, I order a breakfast dish. I've had their GF pancakes and French toast, which are pretty amazing, especially compared to other places. I like their chicken maple sausage and their home fries. A plus....they have chalula hot sauce! Silver Diner is a good spot for family and obviously you can walk around Rio when you're done...there's plenty to do. read more

This review won't matter and they know that. Which is why I'm writing it. I got the same treatment appearing for breakfast this morning; totally invisible. Two waiters purposely walked by me 5 times, avoiding speaking or even basic eye contact. It's not the 1st time I've received shoddy wait staff service there, which subtracts from the usually good food. Waiters are young, cliquish, silly, disrespectful, wrong and rude. Silver Diner is a chain with a number of locations in Maryland, and other states. This is the first time I've ate at the chain and I left a bit disappointed. It could have been my mistake to get non-breakfast food. I got the tropical mimosa (only $6.99 before 4:00pm with an entree on the weekend) and the fried chicken sandwich. My partner got the chicken and waffles. The same chicken was used for both dishes and it wasn't good. The chicken didn't taste fried, more like baked. The chicken sandwich was ok, I wouldn't get it again. The waffle for the chicken and waffles was soft and got super soggy. The only part of the meal I enjoyed was the tropical mimosa. It was busy on a Sunday afternoon, and we were seated within 5 min when we were told it would be a 15-20 min wait. If you are familiar with the Dave and Busters and the AMC Rio Theater, it is nearby. They do offer both indoor and outdoor dining at the time of this review. We came here one weekend and decided to give this place a try. The Silver Diner is a chain business so we were familiar with the type of food they offer. We ordered their club sandwich which comes with a side. We tried the spinach and it was pretty good. The sandwich itself was prepared nicely. Decent portion in terms of meat to bread ratio. We also order their grilled fish with came with a side of cous cous and garlic asparagus. The portion was decent and the grilled fish was well seasoned. The customer service was very attentive. This restaurant is not only filled with delicious and amazing finger licking good dishes, but their customer service skills is one of the best I've encountered in a long time. Their food is well seasoned and when I asked for my steak medium, but instead came out well done, they were more than apologetic and even gave me a free entree for my next visit. The next round was juicy and perfect. The food was so good, I literally had to stop myself from eating into a food coma... literally. The food is a good 4.5 . The menu has lots of options for the Veg, GF or low carb diner. The chain is focusing on Farm to Fork and seems to do a good job of it. They offer Nitrate Free, Turkey and Veg bacon as well as chicken sausage and even Bison. The service is fast and friendly. My original Silver Diner experience was in Bethesda and the restaurant is a stand alone railcar like structure...much more diner like ambiance than the mall version. That got the 4 rating. Being right out on the water is definitely an upgrade for Silver Diner -- you may be able to see a playground and land just on the other side, but isn't the view of water just relaxing anyway? This is why I just wish we could've sat outside, but the tables were full -- obviously, this was during the warmer season haha. We got seated inside and even though it was a little later than breakfast time, we were all in a breakfast mood. Let's see... I got quinoa coconut pancakes and a side of turkey bacon. I think I've mentioned it for other locations, but I appreciate the variety of healthy options that Silver Diner has these days... those pancakes were protein-packed and yummy! Caramel french toast: generous portion size and the french toast is not overly sweet which is good to pair with syrup. So we're spending some of our expenses here and working from a booth for a couple of hours. I'm not much of a chocolate person but this is by far my favorite!!! Not too rich/heavy. Also, got low-fat vanilla ice cream and it is uh-mazing!!! Smith island cake: the photo on UberEats is misleading. I thought the cake would look like what was shown,but it was actually vanilla cake with raspberry and I think lemon in the cake with chocolate drizzling.
