I wanted to be happy, but I don't understand why these donuts only have half sprinkles on them. And with as skimpy as this BEC is, I should've just brought my own bacon and eggs. The service is great and quick but this sandwich left me wanting for sure. I'm grateful it was only $6 read more

The bagels and baked goods here are good, and the staff is generally pleasant. On those two alone, this place deserves your business. But there's a pattern here that keeps me from giving a higher rating, and today it crossed a line. For a spot charging $7+ for a bagel with cream cheese, the policy of charging extra for a to-go cup with ice and a lid has always felt petty. Today it got worse. I asked for an extra cup & lid for ice before being rung up, and the employee wrongly assumed I wanted a simple water cup. When I clarified, instead of extending a small courtesy to a regular customer, he stopped and ran a separate credit card transaction for $2.65, the full price of a beverage, for an empty cup. I had already paid for my bottled beverage. It's not solely about the money. It's about what that gesture communicates to your customer. A $0.25 cup given as a goodwill gesture goes a long way. A separate $2.65 charge for an empty cup does the opposite. The food and early open time will keep bringing me back. But management should keep in mind that it's the small things that turn regulars into occasional visitors. read more

The service was accurate and friendly. I was buying pastries and some pretty cake slices. The red velvet was fine. There was a very chocolate cake (prettier than it tasted) and a key lime tart that was OK (and very tart). I bought 2 elephant ears and should have returned them. Very disappointed. They were huge and looked light and flaky, which fooled me as they were very dense and hard. Inedible. I threw them away. Not thrilled with myself for that and my company was disappointed. I bought 2 bagels which were good and chewy and fresh, thank goodness. My overall opinion is that I spend more than $40 on things that were prettier than they tasted or went to the trash. Stick with their bagels and perhaps their sandwiches (which seemed popular). read more

I wanted delivery. The website is defective and misleading. I placed the order using my credit card that was rejected 3 times only to find out no delivery after calling restaurant. They introduced me to another app called Chownow which seems to be DoorDash. 40 min to bring it 2 miles. Missing food items. Lived in this area 30 years, been there 3 times, disappointed. read more

I don't understand the poor reviews. The only problem with this place is it's busy, which means they're successful. The bagels were good and they checked to make sure our order was correct when paying. Will certainly come back. read more

After reading all the negative reviews (from last year) about the angry & grumpy owner at this place, I hesitated trying it out until a few months ago. I was pleasantly surprised all staff there were so friendly & nice ! Today is the 4th time I came back for the yummy bagel sandwich & their house coffee. A big thanks to the amazing staff, Liv, who is pleasant, bubbly & cordial. like a ray of sunshine in a bitter cold day. The place is old & plain, not a fancy cafe but they got a huge menu with all kinds of sandwiches, bagels and desserts. I would definitely recommend this place. read more

Eaten here for 32 years! Love the selection of baked goods. The lox spread is my (and my cats) favorite! Nice variety of bagels. Service is much better with this owner... former were new yorkers and had quite the attitude which rubbed off on employers. Nice atmosphere for a quick coffee. read more

I like that you can get end of day bagels for a price that's much less than their menu price. But I have to say when you go in and you pick these up, they usually seem to be very rushed and almost like they don't appreciate the fact that you're coming in and getting them at a discount Today however I was super hungry and decided to order a sandwich. $12 for a sandwich these days isn't a ridiculous amount but also it's not super cheap. I would rather pay an extra two or three dollars and get a real sandwich that's gonna satisfy my hunger then a super thin sandwich that hardly does anything and I'm still left hungry afterwards. On top of that, there's no chips, no pickle nothing else. It's literally just the sandwich. I definitely won't return here for a sandwich when I'm hungry. read more

Royal Bagel Bakery - Pastrami and corn beef with cheese on rye - Bagels Near Me - Olney, Maryland

Ok good but overpriced and deceptive business practices. Their receipts are not itemized, and they often make mistakes in charging. Furthermore , they charge fees that may not appear on their receipts and are not disclosed beforehand. Ok, but feels sleezy and is overpriced. read more

There are 2 of these in Maryland. The one in Gaithersburg is a treat. They are real bagels. I am also passionate for hard rolls (look like kaiser rolls but are not) The hard rolls are hard on the outside and soft as a pillow on the insde. Perfect for a roast beef sandwich. Then there is the dark side. The Olney location. The Olney location doesn't have hard rolls unless you order ahead. I tried but never got the hard rolls. They were pretty offended when I called them out. Well, if you are from NY and love hard rolls, try Gaithetsburg. read more

This is the best place for bagels in the area, no doubt. The bagels are always fresh, cooked correctly (middle is moist and slightly crusted on the outside). Breakfast bagels are substantial (typically have to split with another person) and they have a ridiculous variety of other cookies/pastries. They are a bit more pricey, but the quality certainly justifies the cost. read more

Truly real bagels and delicious sandwiches. We tried the BLT and tuna salads and both were excellent. Was a bit crowded but the line moved quickly. Friendly service and reasonable prices. Their pastries, "forget about it", are amazing and the staff are well trained and friendly. read more

I ordered a BLT bagel and an egg bagel sandwich. The bagels are delicious. The BLT bagel fell apart into the tray so I ate it in pieces. The bacon was little pieces. Not a good bagel sandwich. The lettuce was old and had brown on the leaves. I took it off. For such a simple meal it was disappointing unfortunately. The order process was fine. The place itself is fine; had bags of flour stacked in the front door?? read more

I used to love Panera's bagels until I tried Royal bagel in Ollney, Maryland. They blew Panera's out of the water. They are so good and I got them around 2:00 in the afternoon and they tasted fresh and had a good bite to them (texture). I keep them in my refrigerator and they hold up very well in a ziplock bag. I also recommend if you're a pepper head their hot pepper cream cheese but the vegetable cream cheese is tasty too. read more

I hadn't been back to the bakery in a few years and now remember why. Overpriced and not tasty. I wanted a fresh chocolate croissant and instead got a terrible chocolate rocket?? Also, I'm sure I was overcharged for 3 small tea cookies ($4.51). My wife didn't mind the coffee and bagel. read more

Best bagel shop in town best prices and best quality. I've gone here for years and it hasn't changed a single bit

I visited this bakery today for 1/2 dozen bagels and when I returned home the order was incorrect. I chose to return to bakery and ask for refund or new, correct order and requested, as a customer-centric business, to comp me a few bagels for my inconvenience...the manager proceeded to berate me, telling me to shut up (3x) and almost denying me a refund. I've never been so angry, humiliated and frustrated at a place of business my entire life, and will never step foot in there again. Hope no-one has to endure what I went through. read more

Their "Corn Beef" sucks lately...It is always dried out and hard. I would not recommend the "Corn Beef", and their prices have gone up. Ridiculous, Just my opinion. read more

Best bakery in area. The pies are the bes! And the pastries a most try when in the area!

The bagels are solid but I was not overly impressed with the desserts. I would stick to the bagels or a bagel sandwich.

Owner is a rude, no customer service skill DB who needs to learn how to speak and deal with the public. After his employee, who was not paying attention and could not focus for 2 minutes, totally messed up my very simple order, even 6 bagels to go, which he bagged himself, became rude and arrogant when he was called out on his error. Then the owner, acting very rude and arrogant, starting yelling at me and at one point, after they had finally corrected my order, told me, "You have your bagel not just get out of here". What business owner who is totally in the wrong would ever say that, other than of course someone who is rude and arrogant. The best thing was there was another customer standing there when the owner started yelling after the guy who screwed the order up was arguing with me about what I did or didn't say and he spoke up and said, "Look dude, you were not even here for the first exchange this gentleman had with your employee who was very rude to him so you don't even have a clue as to what's going on or what you're talking about, but right now you are the one being very rude to this customer who had his order messed up by your rude employee and now you're acting like it's not a big deal and seems like you don't even give a crap. If this is the way you run your business I won't be back. This owner needs to be put in check. I will not be back and I will take my business and dollars elsewhere. read more

My sisters and I went to enjoy a breakfast together and the staff was very rude, condescending and not helpful at all. The girl at the counter was also very rude to an older man who was inquiring about the pastries. We will not be going back to this location. Hopefully customer service will be improved on. read more

Decent bagels, good sandwiches, fast and friendly service. There's not much more you can ask for. I've never had the desserts at this location but I've had them at the one in germantown and I'm guessing they're pretty similar. Royal bakery has been our go to breakfast road trip stop and totally worth checking out. read more

All I want to know is what kind of bagel place charges customers to slice a bagel in half? I ordered half a dozen bagels and asked to have them sliced in half. I was told it would be 10 cents/bagel to slice them. That's probably to stupidest thing I've ever. I told them to nevermind--I'd slice them myself at home. The girl behind the counter turned around and said sarcastically under her breath "it's so expensive". No miss, it's not expensive. It's the principle. Definitely leaves a bad taste when a merchant tries to nickel and dime you for every little thing. For a business that has messed up my orders ALL the time, you could have the courtesy of providing better service. read more

Definitely recommend one of the best bagel places you can't go wrong with the pretty much any choice. But my main reason is for the friendly service and staff they are excellent. Definitely Recommend. read more

This is your no-fuss local deli. They have breakfast specials, bagel sandwiches, and desserts. I got the cinnamon raisin bagel with butter, pinwheels, and a chocolate chip cookie. The pinwheels were buttery and not too sweet, with a hybrid of shortbread cookie and pie crust texture. The chocolate chip cookie was made with large chocolate chips, and it was a thick, chewy cookie. The bagel had swirls of cinnamon and raisins, and it went really well with the salted butter. The service was quick and it was a great way to start off the day! read more

As a NJ transplant I have been on a long search for a comparable bagel in the DMV. This is by far the best bagel I found and I've tried a lot of bagels. The outside of the bagel is nice and crisp and the inside is pillowy soft. 10/10 would recommend! read more

Absolutely so happy I found this place!! I randomly met a delightful lady in line at the HoneyBaked Ham store as I patiently waited to pick up a Thanksgiving protein augmentation to the turkey already being cooked at home. She is a lifetime resident of the area and regaled me with many a tale of the DC region's history...and a secret neighborhood spot: Royal Bagel Bakery. You must understand I am a creature that has encountered an uncomfortable stage in life: I tend to have more money than time...and I rarely budget my free time as efficiently as I should. Apparently The Boss looks after fools such as me and He put Royal Bagel Bakery right in my path. Even though they conspicuously warned patrons that holiday pie orders should be made in advance, I swallowed my pride and went up to inquire if any pies were available. Excelsior!! The delightful young lady behind the very busy counter (I was in line a solid 10 minutes, owing to the line of very knowing patrons) told me that they DID have a selection of pies that were not committed. With that happy news in hand, I picked up an apple and a cherry pie. I can't yet attest to the taste but, man, did they look inviting in the box. I also got a donut for the road and it was quite tasty...which bodes well. Holiday prep well, my friends! read more

Way overpriced. You cannot order a bagel with cream cheese and nova. You have to order a "platter" with onions and tomatoes so they can charge you $15, or $16 if you want any cream cheese other than plain. Pastries are also higher priced than usual. Quality is ok, but not quite as good as The Bagelry, Bethesda Bagels, or Bageltowne, and more expensive. read more

Owner is very rude. He gets away with it, because there are not many bakeries in the area. However, he is very disrespectful. I ordered ahead, got there, and the order was not ready. He took no accountability and blamed me for it. Don't have the time to argue with a business owner, who clearly doesn't care about customer service--never returning. read more

The hot italian sandwich is banging! I got it so many times while I worked at the pharmacy next door that the staff knew I'd always get it... I always added bacon, but getting it on a toasted cheese and herbs bagel or the four cheese and bacon bagel was money. i like to eat my sandwiches with potato chips; adds crunch and sodium... The chicken caeser salad was on point too-- lots of dressing and a fairly large size. Sometimes I'd get the cinnamon raisin bagel with cream cheese. It's pretty darn good... I've tried the baja chicken wrap and roast beef sandwhich before. They were okay, but not spectacular. Prob need to get double meet in the baja chicken wrap. The staff here is really friendly. read more

The food was poor quality had a sandwich the bread was thicker then the meat inside. Bread tasted stale. Very disappointing not going there again. Service was as bad as the sandwich. Felt I was inconveniencing the young girl by asking questions and looking. read more

Manager incredibly disrespectful, yelled at my kid and I after I asked how much longer my food would take before it was ready-it had been 15 minutes in an empty store. Ordered a sausage egg and cheese bagel on everything with avocado. Adding avocado is a $1.75 up charge and it wasn't ripe. For 3 people getting bagel sandwiches and coffees, the total was $37. Food is great bagels are delicious! I would recommend for breakfast and lunch. Prices good too.

Didn't even realize there were not one, but two of these awesome bakeries around. The Olney location is more convenient for me than Germantown. It's hard to beat sandwiches this fresh for a fair value. If you can make it past the giant display case of amazing looking pastries, cookies, and other desserts you will find very friendly and accomodating service and a small eat in area. Don't let the name fool you, they make so much more than bagels! Haven't had an occasion to need a platter for a party or work function since finding this place, but they also seem to have a good variety for those orders too. Definitely will be coming back to try more! Busy times may be a little tight in the parking lot, it's the shopping center by the Olney library and post office, but probably not a big issue most of the time. read more
