If I could give zero stars, I would. I don't know who's making bagels back there, but this was hands-down the most half-assed "fried egg and provolone" bagel I've ever seen in my life. Where is the egg? Seriously. It's like y'all waved an egg near the bagel and called it a day. The cheese was sad, the onions were basically the only thing on it, and the whole thing looked like it went through a rough night before being handed to me. This is embarrassing. Don't waste your time or money here. Go to Bethesda Bagels if you actually want food that resembles what you ordered. This place sucks. read more

Too bad! I love these bagels. I placed an order for nine bagels this morning and when I went to pick them up, they didn't have six of them. They said the machine is not working for those particular bagels. Yet their website took my money. To their benefit, they did call me. But I make a habit of not answering strange phone numbers so I didn't get the message. But here's the thing, you can only order the bagels in advance online. So when you're ordering bagels, you have no idea whether or not they'll be able to deliver them! Not a good customer experience and I don't recommend it. Posted a similar review four years ago, but I guess they haven't made any progress. I'll be doing the rest of my bagel orders from Bethesda bagels. I was in the area around breakfast time and wanted a bagel sandwich. I came across Georgetown Bagelry after doing some research on local breakfast sandwich shops. This is a traditional bagel shop tucked at the end of a mini plaza. Overall it was an OK experience. They prepare and bake their bagels on site (as you can see from the photos). I ordered a sausage, egg, and cheese on everything bagel and a bacon, egg, and cheese on plain bagel. The sandwich taste and quality was what you'd expect from the typical quick-service, morning bagel shop that prepares breakfast sandwiches. Georgetown Bagelry is definitely an option for breakfast sandwiches if you are in the area and I'm sure the locals in the community appreciate this bagel shop. The plaza where this bagel shot is located does have a parking lot which is a plus. Give them a shot. read more

This place has gone WAY downhill. The bagels are not bagels - they're weird baked bread. The prices are ridiculously high. There is no charm to the place - no cool menu, ambience, or a reason to stay/return. The staff is not friendly and just want tips. It's too bad this place has become so bad from what it used to be. A friend and I stopped here for breakfast and the staff were incredibly friendly. We got the Miami burger bagel which had smoked salmon, cream cheese, tomatoes and onions. I got mine in a sesame bun while he got his on an everything bun and we also had a side of capers that we added as we liked. I also got a cup of orange juice which seemed freshly squeezed and was refreshing while my friend got a coffee that he enjoyed. I thought the bagel had too much tomatoes and not enough salmon as I had honestly never had it with tomatoes before but my friend absolutely loved it. The cookies were delicious and everyone in the diner seemed to get along like one big family so it felt quite homey. If I go back, I'll definitely get the orange juice again but think I'll try something else or ask for the same bagel with no tomatoes. Good spot to get bagels. Came in for the first time to order with a family member on a weekend and eat the bagels fresh right there. Not too crowded, and they have a small seating area inside and outdoors. But most people seem to have come to grab their order and go. Service is a bit lacking though, probably because most customers are regulars and want to order and get out of there. The sandwich and bagel is pretty good and the service is quick, however the prices have been going up significantly to the point where it is simply not worth going anymore. The breakfast sandwich I get is now over 12 dollars, 2 years ago when I used to go it was 6. It is simply not worth it when places like Bethesda bagels is 7 dollars for bigger sandwich. read more

This place is not what it used to be or what you see in the older photos. There is no menu. There are no bagels displayed so you can't see which kind of bagels they have. The bagels here are very dry and dense. I prefer a NY bagel so I may be biased but I am hesitant to say this is what a Georgetown/DC bagel should taste like. I ordered a breakfast bagel and it was heavily buttered, and the egg was very thin - almost couldn't taste it. The best part, disappointingly, was the cheese. Definitely not worth the $4.50. They have tons of unique cream cheeses so it's better to stick to a bagel w/ cream cheese here. If you want a legitimate bagel sandwich, go to Call Your Mother. read more

If you are going to Sarah's for ice cream, make sure to swing by Georgetown to pick up bagels for your next meal or breakfast tomorrow. When I drove to this area, my intent was just to get Sarah's. When I saw that this store front just a few steps away, I had to stop in. I'm really glad I did. Incredible bagels, even next day. I ordered blueberry and pumpernickel rye. I will gladly delete this post if the manager calls me to rectify this. This past Wednesday, I ordered 1.5 dozen donuts & 2 boxes of coffee, plus 1 box of hot water for a hiking event for 12 of my coworkers, to be ready today at 7am (Saturday). The lady who took my order told me that the $22/box coffee comes with cups, sugar, and cream. She asked if I wanted cups, sugar, & cream for the hot water and I said no for the water, but yes for the coffee (water was an alternative for any non-coffee drinkers). I paid on Wednesday ($51 for the three boxes before tax and $10.50 tip) and showed up at 7am that Saturday morning. The order wasn't ready. Three ladies were hurriedly using a funnel to put hot water in a coffee box. I carried two boxes of coffee out to my car. They then handed me the hot water and a giant bag with bagels and presumably the cups+ for the coffee. The cashier asked in Spanish if I'd paid and I replied in Spanish that I had. I drove to Great Falls for the hike when I realized with my coworkers that they didn't give us any cups/sugar/cream. We didn't have cups to drink the coffee and it was wasted, along with the hot water. I called the manager around lunch and left a message. I went to the shop around 1:30pm and the same cashier from the morning tried to gaslight me and say, you remember, I showed you the bag with the cups, sugar, and cream and you said, 'no I don't need it.' I told him not to go down that path. He then restated that there were two coffee pick ups that morning and maybe the other person didn't want cups+. I explained that I paid for cups+ for my coffee, but not the water. Then, a lady in the back started saying in Spanish that I didn't want any cups. She had been asked to help price the hot water box on Wednesday, so she chimed in incorrectly claiming expertise on the whole drink order. I explained to her that the hot water was just the box, but I'd been promised cups+ that was part of the coffee purchase. She continued to say I was wrong. I relayed to her that she didn't take my order so she didn't know what she was talking about. The cashier said that it was their mistake because the lady who took my order should have written down cups+. I want the coffee boxes refunded from my order or an equivalent correction. I was told that the manager would call me. No call yet the evening of. Disappointing. read more

I technically eat so much lox that I should either switch religions or become an Eskimo. Let me tell you, as a salmon fanatic, the lox here is fresh, and cut thickly and amazing on a bagel. My favorite offering is the Miami burger, which is the smoked salmon on cream cheese and topped with red onion and sliced tomato. They also carry whitefish salad, which my shiksa self had to be bribed with a hamantashen in order to try it (it has alot of mayo), but it's not bad especially on TOP OF LOX. The bagels here are some of the best in DC, although some flavors tend to be uber salty like the Everything Bagel. When I'm in the mood for some carbs and gluten, and the potential to fail a drug test, I opt for the poppy seed one. The bagels are soft and fresh. The shop is cute, open early in the mornings (6am on weekdays, 7am on weekends),has a nice helpful and quick staff. As a sidenote, the menu is located on the boards to your right. I was thinking the menu was over the register and confused there for awhile. The only downside: the location. Even though it's called Georgetown Bagelry it's not in Georgetown but in a random shopping center with Whole Foods off River Road in Bethesda. I guess they used to have location in Georgetown, but hey, Bethesda Bagels is now in Dupont and they have Georgetown Cupcakes up in Boston and out in Los Angeles, so I guess the name of a place no longer indicates their location. read more

I eat here all the time. The bagels are perfect. However, I don't know if they have changed their register system, or if the surly cashier just doesn't know how to work it, but I ordered a bagel with sausage and cheese with no egg - basically the breakfast sandwich with no egg. The surly cashier must have pressed about 50 buttons on that POS tablet and asked me to repeat my order 3 times. How is this more efficient than what they had? Solid bagel place in an area hard to find good bagels. However since the first time I've been the quality/ preparation seems to have dropped. Previously a dark toasted bagel would have been good and well done, the last time I wasn't sure it had been toasted at all. My boyfriend also asked for a bagel with peanut butter and they forgot to the peanut butter entirely. I have been craving a pizza bagel forever and finally found one at Georgetown Bagelry. It wasn't as cheesy and saucy as I wanted and the egg bagel was a littttle tinier than bagels I get from other bagel shops. It definitely still satisfied my craving though, but next time I might just buy the bagel and make it a pizza bagel at home. My boyfriends breakfast was your average bagel shop breakfast sandwich (on a wee smaller bagel like mine). Also be careful when driving in this tiny parking lot! read more

Had they already been helped? he didn't know! But, his unparalleled confusion was demystified as workers behind the counter started chirping out "who's next!". It seemed that this courteous mish-mosh of people were systematically aware of who was next, and the burden quickly became his to know and understand the order. As he got up to the counter, a kind faced lady wearing a baseball hat looked him in the eye and calmly asked what he'd want today. It was at that point he lifted the I phone 6 he was gripping tightly in his hand, screen pointed outward, and revealed a check in offer. But this was not like any check-in offer he had seen before. The screen read "a free sausage egg, and cheese sandwich." Was it a plot? Was it a ploy? Would they really give him a free breakfast sandwich, and before he could mutter uncertainties about the requisition, she quickly responded with a "And what bagel would you like it on." A grand relief swept over the agent, like his wrists just released of the tightened metal cuffs he was wearing. But this wasn't Dr. Robnotik's lair, this was Georgetown Bagelry, he had nothing to worry about... or did he!? And as she began to move onto the next customer, Mike B. stopped her and requested a half a dozen bagels... everything flavored of course... and a pack of regular cream cheese to boot. Caught off guard doesn't begin to describe the feeling the women had felt. As if pushed into another existence... she tried to muddle her surprise. "oh ok.. " He paid for the bagels, received them with due haste and then stuck around for his sandwich. And as a wind swept door opened into the small shop, people flooded in almost on cue to fill the swath of hungry carb loaders standing at the counter. A few minutes passed and the 15 minutes he had quickly became 10... and then 8... and then the nervous agent reappeared to the women to inquire about the sandwich. Had it gotten lost in the shuffle? Was the wait the product of an overloaded and over exhausted kitchen? She called back to her team with a pointed tone. "Hey, do we got that sausage, egg, and cheese on everything" Her voice without any quiver. Within 35 seconds she pointed to the side and passed the agent a small bag, piping hot, and brimming with check-in offer. He dashed out to his car and unveiled the concoction. The bagel: soft and coated on every single side with everything seeds. The egg and cheese melted into one another like long yearning lovers. The sausage was fresh and moist with fatty juiciness. It was within 2 minutes that the sandwich became none, and the only evidence that remained was peppered seeds throughout the agents teeth. He put his car in reverse, quickly lifted on the clutch, and pressed hard on the gas. A wrenching screech bellowed from the tires. Located in the same strip mall as Whole Foods (on River Road), this is a no frills, inexpensive place to get a fresh, warm bagel. Here's my rundown: 1) Their egg sandwiches are made with, wait for it... real eggs! None of that bright yellow egg-like stuff that Breugger's and others use, which for me, is great! Their cheese is a bit processed, but eh, it'll do. 2) There's ample parking in the strip mall. 3) For $1.75, you can get a mini-bagel (they're probably the size of an english muffin) with freshly fried egg and cheese on top. It's the perfect size for anyone who hates that heavy, sinking feeling they get when they eat an entire, regular sized bagel. 4) If you check in once (on yelp, of course) you're eligible for 1 free mini-bagel with cream cheese! After a sleepover that had me going to sleep (and stop drinking) at 4am, then up at 8am, I decided to try Georgetown Bagelry. I was not expecting much, but I'm happy I tried it, because I really liked my bagel. The bagel was small, and tasty, plus they got my order (double-toasted, light butter, and lox) correct. Prices are great - I think it was $5.28 for my order (much cheaper than Goldberg's or Bethesda Bagels). Staff was friendly, and I appreciate that they sell lox and sable, both of which can be cut to order. I have not seen sable anywhere else in the area, so that alone is great. They have a huge selection of fresh bagels and cream cheese. For a bagel place in the DC area, this place comes pretty close to the mark. One of the best I've found. One of the better bagels in town, definitely better than what supermarkets and Panera pass off as bagels (just rolls shaped like bagels), but not nearly as good as Bethesda Bagels, my usual go-to spot when bringing bagels to work or for when I'm hosting Sunday brunch. To me, a good bagel has that crunch on the outside and is soft on the inside. My everything bagel this morning didn't have the crunch, better described as chewy on the outside, softer on the inside, so not really reminiscent of a good New York bagel, and left me thinking that my bagel actually might have been from the day before - something others here have commented on as well. Finally, the coffee here is just okay. If you're in this part of Bethesda, this is probably your best choice, but this native New Yorker wouldn't make a special trip. read more

I haven't been to this bagel shop in over a year. When I lived in this area five years ago, I was a frequent customer because it was a neighborhood staple. My favorite items on the menu were the plain bagel with cream cheese or the sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich on a plain bagel. Since I was in the area, I decided to swing by the bagel shop this past weekend, and I ordered the sausage, egg, and cheese bagel. Because it was early on a Sunday morning, the parking lot was empty and the line was short. I ordered my bagel sandwich, and I was in and out in five minutes! It was more delicious than I remembered. I highly recommend this shop for anyone who is a breakfast food person. They have a wide variety of bagels and an assortment of breakfast sandwiches. Good bagels close to home. What's not to like? All the bagels are good, but the one that stands out the most is the cranberry. It's like a blueberry bagel, but with more tang and less sweet. It's a really solid addition to a normal bagel line up that I must have missed during my 10-year stint away from good, east coast bagels. The schmear is also good. I love the veggie schmear.
