Parking was a struggle but once you find a spot get excited! The high ceilings and beautiful florals / greenery very open concept is beautiful. Easy to get a reservation and the service was fast and attentive. The food was fabulous and the cocktails were on point! So fun to try a new place and great for meetings, quick catch up, meet ups and date lunches!

Brunch Meal

True Food experience was good, the server was friendly, timely, and attentive and the atmosphere was what I would expect in Bethesda though not pretension. They have a good variety of brunch and non-brunch meals to select from and it made my selection difficult as I kept seeing something that read very delicious. I would recommend this place to others and I plan to go again if and when I'm in the area.

This is a late review for Tru food from Valentine's Day. We did a last-minute Valentine's Day dinner here, including my wife and daughter, of course. They had a fixed price menu that included an appetizer to my own dishes and a dessert. I paid $10 extra for the steak because it's Valentine's Day who better to treat than yourself . All jokes aside, I had a chocolate dusted old-fashioned, and their love potion number nine. (the strawberry drink) The staff and the service were outstanding and the atmosphere was cozy and relaxing. Unfortunately, some of the food missed like the veggie dumplings for instance. They were a little chewy, even for veggie dumplings. And I would say the same thing for the steak. It was a little chewy. The rest of the meal was good. They took good care of us, they were very attentive so it was a good experience and an average meal. We had a good Valentine's Day.

Butternut Squash Pizza -- 5/10 , Burger -- 10/10

Stoped by for brunch & had such a great time! We were able to choose a table outside since the weather was so nice & we received really great service! We ordered mimosas, hummus, a burger and the vegan pizza. Everything was a solid 10/10 except for the butternut squash pizza. I was a little disappointed because all of the ingredients sounded good, but together, it wasn't great. I recommend adding honey and chilli peppers, or they have a garlic pepper topping you can add! Will definitely add this as a go-to spot for brunch or lunch!

Open kitchen. Food was delicious and fresh. No sodas are served here or fries. You can have a salad or kale lettuce and cabbage as a side option. Very fresh ingredients. Service was fast and courteous by our waitress. Cold glasses for beer. I had Aleppo peppers on my sourdough pizza and added organic tofu to my pizza! Phenomenal!!!

Well, it's healthy. And it tastes like it. But seriously... Things started well. The hostess was really nice and got me seated quickly. It's a pretty restaurant. It took a few minutes before my server came by, and I grabbed a drink when he did. It took kinda longer than I would have expected to get one drink in a mostly empty restaurant, but whatever. The blood orange margarita was pretty good, although the decorative salt and lime/lemon zest rum that extended all the way down one side of the glass was prettier than it was functional. Once that glass started sweating...kind of ewww. When my server finally returned, I asked for a glass of water (what is this, California?) and ordered the cauliflower app and the Chinese chicken salad for my entree. (Did I want a burger? Yes! Should I have gotten a burger?) And then I enjoyed my drink and eventually my water for what seemed like a really long time. Look, I was reading a book, I didn't count the minutes, but for a quiet restaurant with few tables, I was surprised at long it took to get my appetizer. I really liked the cauliflower - the char was good but the florets were still crisp, the sauce is so yummy, the dates add that perfect sweetness, and the nuts and dill are a surprising contrast. I ate about half of it, expecting my salad. And then I waited...and waited...and ate more cauliflower...and waited. Finally my salad arrived. It was very cute, with a lovely mix of greens, chicken, watermelon radish strands, snap peas, crunchy almonds and quinoa, and a teeny tiny avocado half as garnish. The dressing was a carrot ginger that didn't have quite enough salt or ginger for punch but it was really fresh and very filling. Or maybe that was the cauliflower. Overall, I enjoyed True Food Kitchen but felt its service left something to be desired. I also felt the food was good, but not great. I didn't leave wanting to come back and try more things, sadly.

We loved the pick up order. The curry dish was delicious and done according to request. A variety of vegetables, crunchy black rice, plus the protein we wanted to add blended well together, very rich flavor and good quantity! Only thing is I just walked a couple of blocks out of the store and curry dish already spilled and got through the bag, when I found out the bottom of the bag was soaked and there was curry all over my t-shirt and pants. The manager had kindly warned me to be careful about the dish so I held it carefully horizontally to my chest yet it still spilled very easily We definitely recommend this great restaurant, we have been there several times and will come back again, just hope they do a better job packing the soupy dishes next time! (with wraps, double bag/box, for example? ) thanks.

Teriyaki bowl with grilled shrimp
Kanisha L.

First time here! I didn't know it as a chain. We sat outdoors since it was a nice day. Got a little breezy later, they turned on heating lamps which worked great. I got the teriyaki bowl with shrimp and it was delicious. If eating healthy always taste this good, I'd do it more often service was prompt and manager checked in to assure all was well. I'd totally be back.

Lavender matcha latte

The first thing I noticed right off the bat - besides the gorgeous interior - was the service of the host and waitstaff! Prakash had us settled in quickly and sold us on some of his favorite dishes - especially the sweet corn flatbread. It was delicious! He also recommended the drinks - I highly recommend the lavender matcha latte and any of the spritzers. My party of four ordered salads, pizza, and grain bowls and we were all very impressed! The chopped salad was a perfect meal on a hot day. The fresh fruit and nuts were great and the cheese complemented it perfectly! We also opted for guacamole for the table which was delicious; it took a unique approach with a pistachio pesto. It was great, and the tortilla chips were fresh and seasoned greatly. The prices were also fantastic for the area, and it's in a gorgeous part of Bethesda. This is a perfect stop for lunch!

Tasteless spritzer and close to an empty restaurant.

The Caesar salad was incredible so much so that I genuinely think they should bottle and sell that dressing in stores. And the raspberry cheesecake? It absolutely gave me life. It was rich, creamy, and so delicious that I'm still thinking about it. For our entrées, we ordered the Hawaiian pizza, spicy rigatoni, and spaghetti carbonara. While everything was good, the pizza and the rigatoni were my clear favorites. I also tried their sushi and was pleasantly surprised by how much it resembled traditional sushi in both texture and flavor. It was a fun and delicious experience. What impressed me most was the quality and creativity of the menu. There's truly something for everyone, whether you're vegan or not. The restaurant itself feels bright, airy, and inviting. It's the kind of place where you can easily gather with friends, family, or even enjoy a date night. The service was excellent, and our server was warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and can't wait to come back and explore more of the menu. PLANTA has definitely changed my perception of vegan dining.

I made the resi, I called to confirm they saw its a bday - they confirmed. We arrived and no mention of it .. ok fine no big deal. Let me say our server Deija and the manager, I think a lovely Latino gentlemen with a ponytail- were fantastic , professional, and really engaging. The staff is awesome ! Im just not sure what's happened to the kitchen... our fries were excellent - crispy - hot - not oily tasting or anything, best fries I've had in a while... my tequila passionfruit cocktail was also excellent, and refreshing ! It went downhill from there- we said no worries bring food out however whenever it's made, so no pressure on timing or coursing aannnddd ... the lettuce wraps were strange ... Brussel sprout drenched in sauce / soggy / sugary / and not hot... the tofu squares were OK but honestly big squares to put in lettuce ?? Just not conducive.. flavor was OK on them but also lukewarm .. I was so hungry we didn't say anything.. then the sushi which historically has tasted fresh and crispy and light and bright... was drenched in so many sauces to the point where you couldn't even pick them up - they just completely fell apart and was like eating .. sauce ... I then asked and saw Deija type notes to the kitchen that the gluten free pizza should be well done and extra crispy and burnt... she literally wrote the word burnt at my behest ... it came out cold - a little raw in the middle - inedible... sooo weird. I finally had to say something- they obliged and remade it- 15 mins later still floppy and cold ... Im wondering if the oven was having issues ? The kitchen was having issues ? The kitchen staff was new ? I'm confused why baking a crust first - no toppings - to crisp it up and get it crunchy then top it and run it through again .. is so hard ? It was hard, we took half home and will recook at home ... One of my aunts mentioned it's my birthday and the staff were surprised and kindly gave a desert, interesting no one had seen notes. Deserts could also be less sweet ... Overall tasted like a lot of sugar is in everything now (maybe to help with costs and surges in inhalation ??) ... I don't know I'm torn- the last time I went to the Dc one it was fantastic so maybe I'll try there again .. Again interior and staff are excellent and beautiful and well appointed- but food was a bust last night :( I hope they pull it together again!

I got the ramen with tofu, chicken, shrimp. The shrimp was a single piece bisected. The birth had no flavor. The portion was big. My friend got a noodle dish and felt the same. Off Uni which I saved for the last taste, first pieces stunk of ammonia, replacements were just bitter and off as well. These were suppose to be chef choice and he chose to serve off uni which could have easily been deteced with a sniff test. The salmon roe was also soft, runny, tasteless and off color. The remainder of the shashimi was OK but lacked the freshness one would expect for the price. Also the platter was so cluttered I could not identify what was what. Labels would be helpful. First time visit, first impressions are importent. Not the best experience I am giving an 1 star rating to draw attention for their managment and maybe fair warning to customers. I visited Raku on Thursday April 30 @7:30, Restaurant was about 3/4 full. A bit tight seasting as other's had described. Elbow to elbow almost. Typically noisy as resturantes are these days. 1. When we walked in, the receptionist / greeter had no uniform or ID badge so a bit confusing and no reception desk. Not the most welcoming hospitality. 2. Wait staff sort of dissappeared mid service or was just unattentive, they were right around the corner at the wait station. I dropped a chopstick on the floor and needed a repacement. I could not get eye contact so I had to get up and request a replacement after a few minutes. The two of us order the TOKU JO SASHIMI - (38) Chef's Choice ~ White or Multigrain Rice - $110. 3. The shashim was served an a single platter which was a bit crowded and lacked the artistry or elegance a $110 platter of shashimi shoud be presented. Many of the pieces were cut too large and chunky. I appreciate the generosity of the protions but they could / should have been sliced in half. Most of the fish tasted OK but lacked the brightness you expect from fresh cut shashimi. Maybe these platters are pre-prepared and storred in the cooler until needed. The rice served in bowls with the platter was extreemly bland to me. No flavor at all and a bit over cooked. 4. We ordeed the corn meal coated calamari as appetizer. This was adequate but lacked seasoniong and included a some what bland ambigious dipping sauce. Maybe garlic aioli. This was compped in compensation for the off uni in the sushi platter. Probabaly not going back regardless as I am not local.
