I ordered the NYE MENU. The portions were tiny. If that's what would be served in the restaurant I would never go there. You couldn't even fill the vessel on the ravioli and bisque. Shame on you. Then the flavor was so bland. I'm sorry but a hard pass on Opal. Don't do it if you're not going to do it right.

I've been meaning to try out this spot after watching its reel on an IG account on DMV bites. Came here for brunch with my friend to celebrate his birthday and we both ordered the three course meal. The oysters were delightful and the risotto smells amazing. I got the chocolate pot de crème which isn't too sweet as it consists of dark chocolate, offering a bitter touch which is perfect for my liking. My friend got the chive blini + roasted shrimp, orange fried chicken + waffles, and tiramisu, and enjoyed them tremendously.

What a great hidden gem! Have been here twice now and both experiences have been fantastic, food and service were fabulous. My burger was one of the best I have ever had. And omg the wood fired bread was amazing. I have sat both inside and outside and both are so quaint and relaxing. For sure check this place out.

My boyfriend and I went here for their restaurant week brunch deal for $35 with optional $17 bottomless mimosas All the food we got was very delicious but the burger was pretty mediocre The star of the show was the tiramisu, i would definitely go back for this hands down.

Brunch review: excellent! Staff was friendly and attentive and the food was fantastic! This place has a cute coastal vibe on the inside and it really worked. I got the bottomless drinks for $17 and the 3 course brunch deal for $39. Starting with their wood-fired bread, I cannot recommend it enough! It was warm, flavorful, and came with a delicious whipped butter. I also tried the sweet potato latkes which were also delicious! For the main, I got the breakfast sandwich. It was pretty good for a breakfast sandwich but what really elevated it was this tomatillo (I think?) sauce. For dessert, I had the chocolate pot de crème and also really enjoyed that. Overall, we had a great experience and would go back for their brunch again.

Rating- 3.5 stars! I went to Opal with a group for brunch. It had a very nice and relaxing ambiance! The staff was very welcoming and I really appreciated our server who worked to make sure we were all happy with our orders. For myself, I decided to do the 3 course brunch. I started off with the Cucumber + Mezcal cocktail which included spicy mezcal. I loved it! It was refreshing, but the spice also hit you. It was fun! I next had the shrimp and polenta for my first course which was tasty. For my main I had the orange fried chicken and waffles. It was good--just good. Lastly, I had the Tiramisu for dessert. I ended up giving the 3.5 rating because our dishes were hit or miss amongst the group. Some were great and a few sent back. I still recommend Opal if you're looking for a brunch within the Chevy Chase area. Maybe the day we went was an off day!

This place is .. interesting. First, if you want to go, make a reservation. But the food itself is mediocre at best. We got the following: - lamb pita (5/5) great! But very small for the price. This is not a "meal" pita - puttanesca (2.5/5) fine but tastes like school cafeteria pasta - fire-roasted oysters (1/5) terrible. Tasted like they put hot sauce on low quality oysters to hide that they were low quality - Trout (5/5) cooked very well. Great cauliflower - German Chocolate Cake (4/5) pretty good. Won't wow you but fine.

Came here today for brunch with a girlfriend of mine and it was okay. Ample parking options to choose from (there's a CVS and I believe a Walgreens) that's nearby for you to park at, so you're not limited to metered parking. The food was good, but I do wish there were more options to choose from. The main entree options was very limiting in my opinion. But with that said, the food was good. I got the Wagyu burger and asked for a fried egg on top, and the salad to start me off with. This place is great if you're in a bind for a place to do brunch, and you need somewhere that's nice and the menu not being too complicated or busy with options.

Came here recently Friday night for my birthday dinner with friends--overall it was great! Service was good too. They even gave me a birthday card! Food was delicious! Highly recommend the Maine Lobster Ravioli, Clams with Saffron Spaghetti, Dry Aged Roseda Beef Striploin, and Mushroom Risotto. For shareables, the Wood Fired Oysters and Crispy Brussel Sprouts were good, but wasn't a huge fan of the Ricotta Dumplings. For desserts, we tried all three desserts but I only enjoyed the Key Lime Pie. Cocktails were pretty good! We ordered different rounds of shots and they came out pretty tasty. Parking is a bit tough here--there's street parking if you can find a spot, or there's a small parking lot in the back but not too safe if you're by yourself.

Opal is literally the chicest hidden gem in DC!!! From the greeting, to the outdoor patio, minimalist yet funky decor, to the open kitchen. You are sure to enjoy your time here. On Sundays, the restaurant offers a patio/indoor dining option where you can taste 4 different skewers (salmon, sirloin, etc) with different sauces and toppings. Additionally, I recommend trying one (or 2) of their various cocktails. The mezcal cucumber is their #1 seller and after you the 1 sip you'll understand why ! Id also like to shoutout our server Lawrence. He was attentive and ensured we had the best time !

What can I say... what can I say.. I had a good time here. The smash burger is a must. Hear me out. It is favorable and filling. The fries were a bit on the burnt side though. The shrimp starter was great as well. Get a little dill pickle on the fork and combine it with the shrimp and the polenta and you're going to be touching some new flavor profiles.now let's move to the soft serve that has balsamic vinaigrette. Sounds crazy right.. it actually balances each other out. Now I don't recommend just pouring it on but grab a spoon full of ice cream and dip a little in the balsamic. You're welcome. The vibe is chill and the service is on point. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. This is a good place to catch up with friends and get a nice bite.

Neighborhood gem. Small with good vibes. Service was a bit slow on a Thursday night because we had a large group of 15. Food was beautifully presented. Chef knows how to handle delicate seafood. Squid was cooked to perfection. Rainbow trout was fresh and well executed. The pickled squash on top of the trout was a highlight of the dish as it adds another depth of flavors and balances the taste buds. Well done, chef!

    Ricotta dumplings

What an amazingly pleasant surprise! We came to opal with no real expectations and we're completely blown away! While the cocktails were not my favorite, the wine list was extensive and reasonably priced. But the food... it was incredible! The bread was awesome and the lamb pita was so delicious. I honestly expected the ricotta dumplings to be amazing but they were kind of just okay. However under no circumstances should you skip the ham. I know it sounds crazy because who orders ham but DO NOT SLEEP ON THE HAM. It was easily one of the best dishes I ordered this year. The dessert were both delicious and the over experience was pleasant. The only surprising thing was the whole restaurant was closed down by like 9:30. As in staff was pretty much gone. It was just kind of awkward that the restaurant was shut down as we're still getting our dessert. Will I be back? 100% and you should go too.

The location is great, and the decor makes you feel very comfortable, almost homey. Still, they have worked with me to figure things out the four times we have gone. If you are not gluten-free, this is a must. It has a contemporary upscale interior and seating is mostly spacious - except for the rows of two tops. Luckily the hostess must have read my mind and seated us in my favorite curved banquette - a more comfortable and private space. The RW menu turned out to be a bit confusing - it was different from the one I saw online - the online version was $40 for dinner but with most mains with up to $10 add-ons, the only one without the add-on was the trout which I was planning to order. However the menus at the restaurant were completely different. Now there were two options one for $40 and one for $55 (with no more add-ons, as well as no more bass which with the add on would have been $50) but the trout was now only Included in the $55 version. So I ended up with pasta instead. The switch wasn't a deal breaker for us but I can imagine it causing problems for others especially it's not just switching dishes but also prices. Anyway, despite the initial confusion with different menus we had a good time as both food and service were excellent (and I liked our seating which definitely mitigated the menu issue). Note that like many other restaurants in the area they now automatically include a 20% service charge which is prominently shown in the check so additional tip is appreciated but not required.

Perhaps a luxurious dish like steak au poivre is not longer affordable? Well then, how about Burger Au Poivre? With top quality toppings creatively prepared: grilled oyster mushrooms, gruyere and white cheddar cheese, and grilled vincotta marinated onions. Oh my word. All of it was beautifully plated on a bed of cracked peppercorn sauce. Of course the meat itself was of excellent quality, perfectly cooked to order at medium rare. At $31 it is not cheap, but I think a bargain for a meal that sends you over the moon. An equivalent quality steak would have been exorbitant. We paired it with asparagus tempura (also excellent), a nice bottle of Montepulciano de Abruzzo, and for dessert, apple crisp. I also truly appreciate that the portions are generous. Another thing that has become rare these days. Given the service and unique ambience, this is a special occasion restaurant that is fantastic bang for the "Buck," while also casual enough for date-night any day of the week.
