Excellent and authentic Italuan food in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Loved it!

I was thinking Italian. I'm Eddie Cano comes up in a lot of searches of 'best Italian restaurants' in the district. I went Saturday evening, made a reservation. I have been to the neighborhood before but not this particular location. I arrive a bit early and get a table immediately. The restaurant is on the dark side so you have to tip your menu toward the table light. I was in the mood for spaghetti and meatballs ( not on the menu) but the waitress took the order without a problem. I also ordered garlic bread. She brought a glass of water and I decided on a glass of wine, pinot noir I think. The garlic bread and wine arrive quick. I'm enjoying the first piece of garlic bread and sipping the wine. Nice! The spaghetti and meatballs came out shortly thereafter. I was a disappointed with this part of the meal. Meatballs lacked flavor. No garlic, no parmesan cheese. The pasta was fine but the sauce was watery and didn't taste like gravy at all. I ate most of it, the garlic bread accenting the meal with the wine. I will probably go back. I like the small mom and pop restaurants like I'm Eddie Cano. Service was very good. I was able to get a reservation. The place was clean. It's coming up on comfort food season and I'm always in the mood for Italian. read more

As embarrassing as it is, I've been sleeping on I'm Eddie Cano because of the goofy name. A friend convinced me to try it and I'm glad I did! We sat outside for dinner on a gorgeous spring night. Their patio area was a little cramped but it's the city. The server was nice and Italian! He had a great accent! We had the garlic bread to start and holy crap. It was really spectacular! Complicated rich flavors on top of crusty bread- perfection. I got the cacio y pepe while my friend ordered the tagaliata. As others have mentioned, the portions were a little small. Both of our dishes could have been eaten by one person. But the food was really spectacular! I don't mind paying a little more for some high quality food. The cacio y pepe had fresh pasta cooked Al dente. The flavors were rich and dynamic with a decadent creamy sauce. The tagliata was cooked perfectly and had a great texture. It was fresh and came with a delightful salad with tomatoes. They were both wonderful! I can see now why I'm Eddie Cano has been here for a few years and made it through the pandemic! This is a great neighborhood spot, we usually go once a month. Pasta is great, chicken Parm and Milanese is delicious, it's a great spot. Owner is Italian Italian (from Rome) and the menu is fun (half Italian American, half Italian Italian, eg the 4 roman pastas). They used to have some consistency issues, but they fixed those a while ago bc for the last 3-4 years I haven't had a bad meal. The neighborhood restaurant feel is sadly rare in DC, so it's always nice to find one. read more

Friends in town and we took them to I'm Eddie Cano on Wisconsin Avenue, NW. once again we had a great evening. The Al Padrino was a great cocktail. The linguini with lobster, tagliatelle bolognese, shrimp scampi, and pasta carbonara were all delicious and beautiful presentation. Our waiter was friendly and helpful with our order. Friday evening was very disappointing. This used to be one of our favorite places. I know the owners are working hard and how difficult it is to run a restaurant. Prices are way up. Happy to leave a great review for this fun, tasty, family-run restaurant! We had two appetizers and two main dishes, and highly recommend the squid ink pasta. I will say, the dishes could have plated more carefully. With smaller portions, I was a little disappointed in how my food seemed to be "slapped" onto the plate. My boyfriend and I have been going on extra walks lately (like most of DC... we're all antsy due to COVID) and happened to walk by I'm Eddie Cano. I have been meaning to order out/stop by for dinner from here for ages, but haven't so was very excited to come across the place in person! The restaurant workers noticed us reading the menu outside, ran out, and gave us a to-go menu to look at saying they are still doing take out. They were very kind. A few days later, we decided it was time for Italian food! The website was down, the phone message was saying to leave a message about ordering - all of which I found strange but I wanted Italian so I decided to try the last option which was email. I sent my email order (the Classic Eddie) and hoped for a response. Sure enough, five minutes later they got back to me saying it would be ready in 30! Now, for the food. The Classic Eddie is an entire meal for what they say is 3-4 people (I would say three) and is comprised of a salad, (lettuce, salami, mozzarella, onion, and creamy Italian), penne pomodoro, meatballs (or eggplant parm - we chose meatballs) and garlic bread. I do not have one bad thing to say about this meal. It was everything we were looking for. The salad was great because of the meat and the cheese, the meatballs (came with 8) had so much flavor and were perfectly cooked and moist, the sauce on the pasta was amazing, and the garlic bread? I ate 3 slices (it came with 6) and would have eaten more if I wasn't so full. It wasn't too garlicky, wasn't too hard - it was just right. Thank you, I'm Eddie Cano! I'm from Philly and didn't think DC had any good pasta, but I stand corrected. Really great spaghetti vongole, friendly service.

First off, two drinks that are 1/3 full for my parents is absurd, and for $15 each is just crazy. Second, two pieces of garlic bread. There was four of us so we each had half a piece of bread and for $12 - crazy. Third, my three year old brother wanted pasta; the server said the spaghetti and meatballs would be good for him; it cost $25. That is just not ok. Lastly, if I could put 0 stars I would. read more

We were here several years ago and loved it. This visit we didn't feel welcomed. Figured that regulars get the goods here. Tomato sauce on the pasta and meatballs was lacking spice. No bread offered. We had a good time. We were looking for a place to eat close to where we were staying in DC and this restaurant was the only one open. We had the cacio e pepe and meatballs. Great place with a funny name. Terrific pasta, fabulous salads. We're not huge meat eaters so didn't try some of the exotic options, but the chicken parm was terrific (and huge!). Our family ate here (for the fifth or sixth time over the years) on 9.8. The food was wonderful (and so were the bourbon based cocktails). We ordered two orders of meatballs, fried zucchini, a pork ragu, tagliatelle, and eggplant parmigiana. Everything was delicious (the parmigiana portion was a little on the small side, especially compared to the other dishes--but very good). Some have complained about the value here, but our meal with tax and tip and two cocktails was $185 (and we brought home leftovers). Massimo chatted with us and was his usual welcoming self. There are several great reasons to celebrate the arrival of this new restaurant to the neighborhood, along with some possibly negative points that diners should be well aware of as they prepare for a night out. First of all, the food. It's very good. We were a party of six and tried several appetizers and main dishes, all of which satisfied. Meatballs were very tasty, three of us had pasta with clams, which includes a subtle yet delicious sauce with tomato and parsley. Hanger steak also yummy. Panacotta was sublime! The left side of the menu is what they suggest is American Italian while the right side is more Italian from Italy. To us, it all tasted good. Also in the plus column, service was attentive and friendly. Water glasses were refilled over and over, dishes were cleared promptly, and information was shared widely. Kudos for a strong team. The comments around portion size from other reviewers are correct. If you arrive with a healthy appetite, you will need at least an appetizer, pasta, and main course to leave full. My pasta amounted to four forkfuls. Despite a minestrone soup to start and nibbling from appetizers and other peoples plates, I left hungry. The restaurant is loud. Something about the acoustics make it such that even with a small number of people in the restaurant, volume levels are high. It seems like they could fix this problem with more cushions on the walls or ceilings to absorb some of the sound. There is one tall center table which is shared. It can get slightly crowded. My wife complained that she had no place to move. We would not choose that table again. So, in short, wonderful food, great ambience (except for noise levels), and excellent service, but better to go in with eyes wide open so your expectations will be met. This is not a value for money restaurant but it is a special place and we welcome them to the neighborhood. read more

We made a reservation today and canceled within 2 hours of making the initial reservation which was 2 hours prior to the reservation and they still charged $50 to cancel. It would be gracious of the restaurant to refund the $50. We would have loved to visit and spend more than $50 for food and drink but there was no room to negotiate with them. I rarely comment but with a BS cancellation policy, I cannot recommend this restaurant. Be aware of making a reservation with this restaurant. read more

Very good. More details below, but if you happen to be reading this in April 2020, they're open for takeout during the covid-19 restrictions, and the options are very good. They have even been offering discounted wine Thirsty Thursday deals, plus a roll of toilet paper with the purchase of a bottle of red. Got to love that. Their specials have been evolving and still are, so check them out! Extra bonus points for getting to walk in and see a mural on the wall featuring many cinematic classics that take place in Italy. Our fave was Audrey Hepburn from Roman Holiday. As soon as we entered, we were greeted with a enthusiastic "Buonasera," and as we left, an appreciative chorus of "grazie"s. It really adds to the experience and set a nice mood for an Italian culinary adventure. Anyway, the spaghetti and meatballs is tasty, and we really love the cavatelli, a deliciously simple veggie and pesto pasta. The best dish we had though is the Italian sausage. The sausage is absolutely spectacular, slightly spiced but very flavorful, and comes with a side of fingerling potatoes and plenty of red peppers. I could eat a portion of this stuff every day. Was out to dinner with the fam, and witnessed the manager being absolutely nasty to a delivery driver, and then he turned around and was all smiles to us. The whole table felt uncomfortable from it,... anyway I can't recommend a place that treats the "help" like that.
