    Cacio e Pepe

As embarrassing as it is, I've been sleeping on I'm Eddie Cano because of the goofy name. A friend convinced me to try it and I'm glad I did! We sat outside for dinner on a gorgeous spring night. Their patio area was a little cramped but it's the city. The server was nice and Italian! He had a great accent! We had the garlic bread to start and holy crap. It was really spectacular! Complicated rich flavors on top of crusty bread- perfection. I got the cacio y pepe while my friend ordered the tagaliata. As others have mentioned, the portions were a little small. Both of our dishes could have been eaten by one person. But the food was really spectacular! I don't mind paying a little more for some high quality food. The cacio y pepe had fresh pasta cooked Al dente. The flavors were rich and dynamic with a decadent creamy sauce. The tagliata was cooked perfectly and had a great texture. It was fresh and came with a delightful salad with tomatoes. They were both wonderful! I can see now why I'm Eddie Cano has been here for a few years and made it through the pandemic! The food was high quality authentic Italian that makes for a nice special meal.

Everything was incredible! The cacio pepe had a great flavor and was perfectly al dente. The espresso martini and aperol spritz were fantastic as well! I had no idea what to expect from the tartufo bianco but it was the perfect light, cold, and sweet dessert to split.

Busssssss . This place is straight gas. So fye every time. U need to get the steak and also the gelato

    Pasta alla gricia

I really liked the pasta alla gricia, which is offered on the winter menu. The tiramisu, not pictured, was also really good.

Happy to leave a great review for this fun, tasty, family-run restaurant! We had two appetizers and two main dishes, and highly recommend the squid ink pasta. I will say, the dishes could have plated more carefully. With smaller portions, I was a little disappointed in how my food seemed to be "slapped" onto the plate. But the food was delicious, service was just what you'd expect from a family-run restaurant (complete with a young boy serving as the host).

Down home Italian food. Simple, tasty, well made plates. Had the Polpo as an appetizer. Amazing, grilled and seasoned perfectly. Then my old standby Cacio and Pepe. You can tell how good an Italian restaurant is by this simple dish. Excellent wine and cocktails list.

I'm sure the plating is much nicer at the restaurant! :) (not pictured - the salad)

My boyfriend and I have been going on extra walks lately (like most of DC... we're all antsy due to COVID) and happened to walk by I'm Eddie Cano. I have been meaning to order out/stop by for dinner from here for ages, but haven't so was very excited to come across the place in person! The restaurant workers noticed us reading the menu outside, ran out, and gave us a to-go menu to look at saying they are still doing take out. They were very kind. A few days later, we decided it was time for Italian food! The website was down, the phone message was saying to leave a message about ordering - all of which I found strange but I wanted Italian so I decided to try the last option which was email. I sent my email order (the Classic Eddie) and hoped for a response. Sure enough, five minutes later they got back to me saying it would be ready in 30! Now, for the food. The Classic Eddie is an entire meal for what they say is 3-4 people (I would say three) and is comprised of a salad, (lettuce, salami, mozzarella, onion, and creamy Italian), penne pomodoro, meatballs (or eggplant parm - we chose meatballs) and garlic bread. I do not have one bad thing to say about this meal. It was everything we were looking for. The salad was great because of the meat and the cheese, the meatballs (came with 8) had so much flavor and were perfectly cooked and moist, the sauce on the pasta was amazing, and the garlic bread? I ate 3 slices (it came with 6) and would have eaten more if I wasn't so full. It wasn't too garlicky, wasn't too hard - it was just right. Thank you, I'm Eddie Cano! We will be ordering from you again soon. We cannot wait to have dinner on your patio once COVID is over!

I really enjoyed this spot and look forward to going back. I dined outside on a dreamy September night. The weather was perfect. So many locals were out enjoying meals as well. The staff was so friendly and attentive. The food was divine! Perfectly prepared and presented. The wine was affordable and delicious. Like I said, I really look forward to going back very soon. Perhaps on a chilly winter night to enjoy something warm in the cozy dining room inside. Make sure to add this to your list if you haven't already!

We'll have to look for an opportunity when we are around the dog all day, so she can be on her own for a couple of hours, likely sleeping. Birdsong already is acclaimed. This is much more Thai and Thai American. Like Chinese or Italian cuisine before it, Thai flavors have assimilated to a palate not accustomed to the true strength of the spices. Birdsong is a remedy. They do not offer the pad thai that has become a staple, no longer exotic but to its detriment. (A digression. The history of pad thai, with contested origins, is fascinating. As you delve into these matters, you see how syncretic culture is. You also are exposed to the efforts to fashion a unifying mythology.) We ordered the chicken, the shrimp, the crab fried rice, the papaya salad, and the enhancement. The chicken and the shrimp were quality ingredients, prepared well. Although both proteins were fried, they felt clean. The crab fried rice was one option of many with the rice base. The papaya salad was fresh. The enhancement was radish with "fermented daikon, garlic, red onion, cilantro, palm sugar, and fish sauce scrambled with eggs for a balanced savory and sweet flavor," and the portion was generous: we put it on the rice, then I finished it off in an omelet the next morning. We have traveled to Bangkok. Thai spiciness exceeds what I would endorse, and I love hot dishes. Birdsong was much milder, though with sufficient pepperiness my wife, who does not share my preferences, remarked it was closer to her limit. They will work with you in this respect, and I'm confident I could request something that would test my capabilities. That is, in my book, all positive. The dishes that were mild according to the menu, were mild, but they were flavorful. If you do not like fish sauce, for example, you may not appreciate the offerings, which if they don't have fish sauce have something along those lines. I hope Birdsong fares well.

We were looking forward to eating at Birdsong, which has gotten great reviews. A few friends said…read morethat they went and loved it. But we thought only one of the four dishes we ordered was especially good, I wouldn't order the other three again. The Basil Shrimp - described as "Battered and golden fried" seemed more like tempura. I wouldn't have ordered if I knew. The Tom Yum soup was good, but very pricey at $25. For comparison, a similarly sized, likely an even larger entree Tom Yum soup at Bambu is $14. It had lots of noodles. We were sharing, and asked our server for recommendations- she suggested a second dish with the same noodles. Usually a server points out if diners are ordering two dishes with the same base ingredient (noodles) but our server actually suggested the second one. Seriously? And unfortunately, it was underwhelming, just blah. We left most of it. We got the chocolate crème brûlée, the presentation was very nice, with gilded peanuts on top. The taste was just so so, sweet but not much chocolate flavor. We liked the decor and the atmosphere was nice. We loved the bird mural. Service was mixed. Our server was friendly, but could have been more helpful. First, the recommendation for a second dish with the same noodles was not a good one. We asked if we could share everything, including the soup. We specifically asked if they could put it into bowls for us. They brought two bowls, but we had to wait a while for a spoon to divide it ourselves at the table. She ended up bringing us one of those small soup spoons that you often use for soup at Chinese restaurants. It was around the same size as a regular soup spoon. Apparently they didn't have anything that is more like a ladle, and it was not very useful for portioning out the soup. We thought we'd love this restaurant, but it was a miss for us tonight. Not only that, and this is on us, the only dish with any real nutrition or healthy ingredients was the soup. For one "small plate" appetizer, two entrées and one dessert, the total was just under $100.
