Was here last night to celebrate a belated mother's day, and boy did Eddie Cano's deliver. Since they don't do reservations, husband and I arrived half an hour earlier than my folks to get our names on the list. We stationed ourselves at the bar and enjoy very nice gin cocktails (named after the restaurant itself) and the fried zucchini, which was very tasty and akin to shoestring fries. My folks arrived pretty much as our table was ready, and we realized we were seated next to family friends, which was a pleasant surprise. The host helped me speak with our server in advance so that I could give him my credit card--I wanted this to be a special occasion for my family and was not about to let my parents pay. Our server, just like the bartender, is Italian and very knowledgeable about the menu. The four of us ordered the eggplant parmesan, the chicken/pasta special, the ribs special, calamari and rapini small plate, along with a bottle of San Genovese. Everybody cleaned their plates and I basically had to stop my husband from licking the plate after we finished the ribs. For dessert, we had the tiramisu and chocolate gelato. Delicious, although the tiramisu was more like whip cream dusted with cocoa powder. Our water was constantly being refilled by thoughtful staff, and they even brought a vase for the flowers I brought for my mom. The total bill for the table was $150 before tip--a number which my parents never saw, courtesy of the server. All in all, it was a really festive evening, ably assisted by the outstanding staff, enjoyable meal and great beverage selection. The volume is a bit high (I had to shout to talk with my parents, whose hearing isn't great) but it's well worth the wait to try this place out. We'll be back soon! read more

Was out to dinner with the fam, and witnessed the manager being absolutely nasty to a delivery driver, and then he turned around and was all smiles to us. The whole table felt uncomfortable from it,... anyway I can't recommend a place that treats the "help" like that. The food was okay though and our waitress was lovely- but again we will not return, nor recommend a place that treats people that way. read more

Food was good, portions were tiny, and prices were extremely high for simple dishes (eg $12 for two pieces of garlic bread).

Excellent food and good neighbors. Also a fun outdoor area next door at Italian Bar, with great gelato.

Our family had a great time and we loved our overall experience here. Food was excellent, drinks, service, everything was flawless. Will definitely come back. read more

This is the best pasta in the city, bar none. We are so lucky to have this gem in our city, with its fabulous menu and homemade pasta made with care by Massimo. read more

The ambience, the food and the service were all excellent! Someone in our party had allergies, and the wait staff was wonderful and accommodating them. Molto grazie! read more

Although the food wasn't bad, the attitude of the owner was not welcoming. With a party of 6 , the owner only offered us a table in the back of the restaurant which was not where we wanted to sit. Instead of trying to accommodate us by combining tables, it was a take it or leave it proposition due to our size. In addition, the restaurant was close to empty when we arrived. There are many alternatives for customers looking for friendly hospitality. This is not one of them. read more

One of my favorite spots in DC. Their Frutti Di Mare special is to die for. I crave it constantly. Their menu offers variety while remaining focused and not being overwhelming. Prices are excellent, and the wine never disappoints. It's a bit of a hidden gem, as they frequently have seating available. Eating there is always a joy. read more

This nearby restaurant just opened two months ago so went to try it first opportunity we got. It's in a quiet residential neighborhood (halfway between Cleveland Park and Chevy Chase) right across from Politics and Prose. This being December, it's festively decorated with string lights and shiny Xmas ornaments center pieces. The small and cozy dining room is square in shape, corner bar in the back, a rectangular high communal table (seats 16-18) in the center, a couple of booths and a collection of 2s, 4s along the sides. If you like windows and people watching the counter seating on one side of the entrance and a larger family size table on the other would be good choices. Decor is contemporary and elegant in solid colors of black, grey, and red (throw pillows), one exposed brick wall, attractive dividers consisting strings of empty wine bottles. Subdued lighting with the white ceiling adorned with black umbrella shaped objects for sound absorption, not sure how well they work as some have mentioned the room being noisy - although as new trendy restaurants go, pretty average, but maybe not quiet enough for this neighborhood. We had the fried strings of zucchini, very tasty, polpo - a single tentacle, a bit chewy but quite succulent, Tagliata - nicely spiced hanger steak, Bucatini - with sparse bits of bacon like pork cheek - interesting long thin tubes of pasta which held the flavor of the sauce well. Finished with tiramisu - regrettably a rather bland and forgettable version, served in a bowl (in my experience few restaurants offer outstanding desserts - sigh). Dessert aside it was a good dining experience that met overall expectations. They don't take reservations, not even for large parties which is a bit of an inconvenience since it's not the kind of area where you'd just stroll along with many other dining options. We went early to make sure we didn't have to wait. In any case, on a weekday evening, it was not busy until 7, so probably safe to arrive before that and not run into a wait situation. Price wise, with medium plate sized portions (except the polpo which is small so more pricy at $16) it's about average among most DC restaurants - our two apps and two entrees plus a drink and dessert came to about $85 before tip. Diners seem to be reflective of the neighborhood - overall a bit older but also families with young children. At this point it's no doubt the most popular restaurant in this area - on this evening the busiest on this stretch all the way down to Cleveland park. read more

THIS PLACE ROBBED ME!!! While in DC for a family vacation, I made a reservation on yelp for this place. My first RED FLAG should have been that I had to give my credit card information to get a reservation. This is the first time ever that I have had to do this. However, I was making the reservation through yelp and I assumed it was ok. Note that there was not any information given on Yelp about the reservation process, this will be important later. I had to cancel the reservation a few hours later, because we were not going to make it. I canceled the reservation a few hours after I made it and a few hours before the actual reservation. Later in the evening (right as this placed was closing) I received a text message that my credit card had been charged $50 by this place. I immediately called the restaurant and disputed the charge. I was rudely told they would not reverse the charge because I did not comply with their reservation policy. As a result of this, I will never lay my credit card down again to hold a reservation. Furthermore, I would suggest you never go to this restaurant. read more

Too bad the food is so good and the service so poor. Try getting water when you first sit down. It can take 10 minutes. Try getting your check to pay, you may have to ask the host(ess). They just don't seem to look around to see if a customer might need something. And it wouldn't hurt for them to smile once in a while. Order take out if you must, but avoid eating there because of the poor service. read more

We have come here a number of times since they opened and gotten delivery during the pandemic. The food on both sides of the menu is tasty and the wines are good. The pasta is extraordinary and the dessert delicious - the burrata is a great appetizer and we love the tiramisu. Great place to go on weeknights, and the outdoor seating is comfortable and relaxing. But the service was very rude when we brought friends with us on a weekend night - like we were annoying the manager by being there. We wanted to order appetizers while we looked at the menu but were told we had to order everything at once because they were so busy. We wanted to order dessert to go but we're told it was already on plates so they couldn't accommodate us. It felt uncomfortable and not relaxing. Would recommend takeout or visiting on weeknights - seems like their success is making it less of a relaxing neighborhood place on weekends. read more

Love this place! The food is delicious and the staff and owner are warm and welcoming.

Atmosphere was great, servers are super friendly but the food quality did not match the atmosphere. Id recommend coming here for a sidecar if you enjoy those or are looking for a place to grab drinks but the food quality was bland and non flavorful. We had to ask for salt and pepper to add to the dishes which isint something we usually like to do. read more

This was first time ordering and it was take out. I ordered the branzino and cavatelli. I'm sure that had I eaten at the restaurant, the food would have tasted better. Traveling in a box even for 5 minutes can change the taste. That said the fingerling potatoes and sauce were tasty but the fish was a bit dry. The cavatelli had great texture, but felt it tasted a tad bit bland. I also had an arugula salad with lemon vinaigrette, which was very fresh and good. I would give it another try. read more

Recently (7/13). dined at I'm Eddie Cano restaurant. Had an order of Caesar Salad, the seafood platter ($42) with lobster (the lobster was the draw), and a draft beer. A recommendation by the waiter for garlic toast was ordered without checking the menu price -$10 for 2 slices!! The salad was some chopped lettuce wit a few croutons and a dressing that tasted like a store bought brand. The seafood platter arrived but without the lobster. The order included some baby clams about the size of your fingernail, some mussels with VERY little meat (about the size of a pea), a few inch-long octopi, a few slices of squid, and some squid-ink linguini -which was the only acceptable item on the plate. But, I repeat, no lobster. Two waiters pointed to the squid and said that that was the lobster. I disagreed and asked to see the manager (owner?). He also said that the squid was the "lobster". I calmly disagreed, and he replied rather vigorously, "No need to be so aggressive!". He eventually agreed that the squid was not lobster in disguise. He disappeared into the kitchen and came back with a small dish with a few bits of lobster on it. He said that the cook had "just forgotten it". Really? The total bill was $95.00 including a compulsory 20% gratuity (the waiter gets paid $32 and hour all day). For one meal! You would think that the cost of the meal would have been comped or at least reduced considering the quality of the food and the missing lobster fiasco. How should I say it? Don't go there. Don't dine at I'm Eddie Cano. Eat elsewhere. Unless you want to have the "pleasurable " dining experience I had!!! read more

The food was mediocre and the waiter we had was awful. The gnocchi was over cooked and tasted like mush, the cacio e pepe needed salt, and the zucchini fries was all batter no zucchini. Our waiter made it worse. We asked for recommendations and he would give us one and would immediately just add it to our bill without asking us. He kept ignoring us and didn't check on us once. I will definitely not be back. read more

Slightly fancier than most red-sauce Italian places, the appitizers, entrees, and sides are good on both halves of the menu the Americanized and "Italian -authentic" listings. Comfortable, relaxed ambiance, and attentive unfussy service. something for everyone, Solid cocktails and not overpriced. Great for groups with both non-foodies and enthusiastic food nerds. read more

OMG I love this place! So lucky to have this gem in the neighborhood! Delicious house made pastas. They have both the "Americano" side and "Italiano" side of the menu so there's something for everyone. Highly recommend. read more

My partner and I have been coming here fairly regularly since before COVID and it has been one of our go-to places in the neighborhood. We were happy that they were able to survive when so many restaurants around the city have not been able to stay afloat. That said, the last 2 times we have gone, there has been a noticeable deterioration in quality in both service and food. Where the staff used to be warm, inviting and friendly - to the point where by our 2nd visit the servers already recognized us and knew our drink order - the staff now (which almost all seem to be new) are cold and borderline rude. The food prices have increased and portions are smaller (understandable due to inflation) but the quality has also decreased. At least twice the Cacio e Pepe was clearly made with boxed pasta. The Melazane on our last visit was under-sauced, under-cooked, but then somehow topped with a completely burnt layer of cheese on top. The menu, which used to rotate fairly regularly, has largely remained the same for the last year, and has unfortunately reduced the amount of non-meat options. I really would like to see them succeed, especially when there are so few options in this neighborhood, but the last several visits are making it really hard to justify the cost. read more

We have ordered from this restaurant now 2 times. The first time was early in their opening so we figured we'd try again. The food is mediocre/poor at best. The second time my husband and I had the chicken Parmesan, pasta (red sauce) and a side salad. I'll start with the chicken, the best part of the meal as it was flavorful and crispy. I'll rate it as fine, not remarkable but okay. The pasta, was flavorless, not homemade and lacked sauce. How is it possible to be an Italian restaurant and not have fresh pasta and flavorful red sauce. We ate it because we were hungry but unless there are major changes to the food, it's rather institutional, at best. The salad became a topic of conversation as I was amazed they served iceberg lettuce. I wasn't even sure you could buy this lettuce anymore and unless you're serving a wedge at a steakhouse with blue cheese, it's probably best forgotten. read more

I ordered steak which was supposed to come with two vegetables. arrived with one and when I asked was told they were out of the other and put a little pumpkin purée instead. The food is mediocre at best. I ordered a chicken Milanese which was not pounded crepe thin as it should be. In Italy and in better restaurants a Milanese is ALWAYS veal. For what they charge, veal is absolutely in order. The chicken tenders at Safeway are about the same thickness and much tastier. This one was not only tasteless but floury/pasty tasting. The accompanying salad to every Milanese, both here and in Italy, was likewise tasteless. My husband ordered a melanzane alla parmigiana which comes with a side of penne with tomato sauce. We do not eat pasta that is not freshly cooked and we are not food snobs. I was born in Italy and spent a lot of time not only in my parents' home, but also in Italy as an adult, and no Italian eats pasta that is not freshly drained. We told the Neopolitan manager/onwer (a region I am from) no pasta, please! When we were presented with the check (it was a take-out order), we noticed that we had been charged an additional $5 for the unwanted pasta, although the menu states the price WITH a side of pasta. We went back in and told the owner/manager to kindly correct the error, which he did. The food was finally handed to us in a shopping bag and low and behold the unwanted pasta at $5 additional, though supposedly part of the entree', was included. We now have numerous credit card receipts for a simple transaction. We will never go back, primarily for the low quality food, but also for the "confusion" regarding pricing and charging. Did I mention that the owner/manager made a lewd remark to me before he realized that the guy locking the car in front of the restaurant and now standing next to me was with me: yes, my husband! Low quality food delivered by a low life. I am 72 and should be flattered. I AM NOT!!!! read more

I am thoroughly upset to say that this meal was extremely below sub-par. As a family of 5 we ordered across the menu and everything was undercooked. My brother ordered the beef tenderloin medium and it came out blue. I myself ordered the tortellini and although I am known to love my pasta al dente, my pasta was simply crunchy and wasn't even warm. My dad who ordered the spaghetti felt similarly. I will say our wine was excellent, but the bottle they brought out was from a more recent year than that on the menu. Overall disappointing experience... read more
