The 512 Bar hosted a boat party at the lake on Memorial Day. For $25, they promised boats, a DJ, beer and good times, from 2-7. A 2 pm a few hundred people stood in the Texas sun as the staff showed up and began setting up. It's not that we showed up, and they were a little late getting ready. They began setting up when the party was supposed to start, so we stood in the sun and watched them. Then they loaded the boat. Apparently no one counted or considered safe capacity except for the sheriff's deputies in the boat off port, so they had to unload everyone except for staff. When they unloaded all the paying guests, it was obvious that the 100 or so "staff" still on the boat included several hangers on and favored guests. They announced to the paying, luckless mass of people baking, once again, in the sun, that they would take on a safe load and that more boats were coming to pick up the remaining guests. Had not some paying guests been on that first boat (which left the dock at 4 pm, a full two hours past the promised start to the party), I would have adopted a religion and prayed reverentially and fervently for it to sink and kill all aboard, thus adding a level of meaning to Memorial Day, when the 512 Bar killed a party before it even began. read more

This place was WAYYYYY too loud. I thought my heart was going to stop. You can't escape the speakers! The bar is like a hallway with no tables (there is a rail along the wall though) and there's 6 huge speakers just pumpin out horrible mixes. I went here for a company get together and I couldn't stay. It was just too loud. They were also out of half their liquor. My husband and I asked for at least 4 different things before we found one they weren't out of (Crown, Makers, etc). I'm a bartender too, and it's not uncommon to be out of one thing but rarely is someone actually out of that much. Just a bummer that made me want to get drunk somewhere else. She was waiting for me outside of the restroom...and she was alone, so I'm not sure how she was doing anything to cause an issue to the point of being kicked out. Fool me once, shame on 512. My entire experience at this bar was a trail of tears. They insisted that my friend take a birthday shot, even when she refused several times. That staff were so unprofessional that the bar tender began to slander her and embarrass her for the entire bar to see. Finally I just took the L and drank the shot for her. This was probably a mistake, given that it excited the waitress enough for her to start taking shots herself. We were then offered a free round of margaritas (what could go wrong?) And were promptly handed a check for them. Even the next day this bar haunts us, as my friend discovered that he was charged an ADDITIONAL $20 on top of his tab. Be careful here, this bar has a $50 authorization maximum for credit card/debit card transaction. It put a $50 hold on my debit card when my tab was $16. I would only use cash here. However- a nice manager from the bar did call me back when I was panicked about why this happened. I had to dig to find a working number to contact them however. I came here recently for a bar tab and left within the first forty-five minutes due to how disappointed I was with the service provided at 512 on 6th. Firstly, I have never met a bouncer more condescending, rude, and disrespectful at any venue on 6th street. He was a young, tall, and skinny African American male. He was aggressively monitoring every individual as if he was hopping to find a reason to kick them out. He was shinning flash lights into people's faces, even those obviously over 21, and carried a sense of urgency and anger towards everyone he spoke to, which ultimately made my group uncomfortable. Whenever he'd discover someone breaking his rules, instead of respectfully and professionally addressing it or politely asking them to leave, as any good customer service provider should, he would run at them, yell at them, and make a huge scene. I overheard him yelling at someone, "Do you think I'm freaking stupid?"Ultimately, by the time I was so fed up and annoyed with him that I left, he had disrespectfully removed a large amount of individuals. My group and I have enjoyed many bar tabs at other locations, and we have been treated with care and respect by their employees, and the employees had no issues with us as we are a well-behaved group. To me, he was doing more than just taking his job seriously. He sincerely found enjoyment in being a harsh authoritative figure, and he felt empowered by being ruthless. These characteristics make for a very unprofessional service provider. As a result of how we were treated, the likelihood that we will have another bar tab here is slim. Don't waste your time with 512 on 6th. There are countless other clubs that provide a more harmonious and entertaining environment. read more
