Really disappointing experience, especially for a bar on 6th Street in Austin during a UT game. My friend and I came into Pour Choices around halftime specifically because they were one of the only bars actually playing the game with sound. The place was nearly empty, despite it being 8:30 PM on a Friday game day. UT was making an incredible comeback, and with SIX MINUTES left, they shut off the TV audio and started blasting music. I politely asked if they could leave the game sound on for six more minutes. One bartender ignored me, another told me to ask the owner, and when I asked the owner directly, he also ignored me and walked away to set up a smoke machine. There were maybe seven customers in the entire bar. We were paying customers, actively watching the game, and asking for six more minutes. Turning off a huge UT game in Austin with six minutes left to blast music and fire up a smoke machine in an almost-empty bar is certainly a choice. And the irony that this place is called **Pour Choices** is not lost on me. Great name for a bar with horrible customer service and an owner who apparently can't be bothered to acknowledge his customers & would rather call them a "b*itch" than read the room. read more

We were looking for a layover spot to wait on another establishment to open and chose to stop in for a few drinks. Being earlier in the day, E 6th had not yet turned into Dirty 6th, rendering this bar a good place for a few drinks. I would expect a loud environment here, just like in any other bar down the block. Along with the drinks we were easily entertained by the hoops game, but if basketball is not your thing, you may find the claw game more interesting. A live band was playing. They had a few games you could play like Connect 4 & basketball. Kairo (?), our bartender, was very nice and recommended we each get the same drink, in a larger size, for a dollar less. This would be intriguing, but I am a huge lightweight. Somehow, I acquiesced. The shocking thing is that, while a typical bar would make its larger, cheap drinks weak in order to turn over money and booze quickly, NOPE. These were very strong. I could not finish mine, let alone come close, but the lack of upsell and shiftiness already separates this place from its counterparts nearby TBH. If I could give it a 0 star I would. My cousin and his colleagues came from out of town and wanted to experience 6th St. I, having been to 6th street many times, I found it extremely unsettling and sketchy that the bar charged an automatic 20% tip (for 1-infinity) patrons without disclaiming it before hand. This applies if you pay cash or card. Now, for context, what if I came to the bar with a $10 bill and drank exactly $10 worth of alcohol, then I receive the bill and it's $12.00. Then what? I only have $10 cash. Now had you told me that I would be charged 20% prior to drinking, I would have only drank $8 worth of alcohol that I could afford the tip. Don't get me wrong, it's not the tip amount, in fact, had the 20% not been added, my personal tip would have exceeded that. However, since you took that choice away from me without prior consent, it pissed me and my friends off. We spoke with management and they explained that it was some type of tourist tax (which is not a real thing in Austin). They had no written policy to show us or any credible explanation. Needless to say, we will not be returning. Oh and top it off, they stand in the front and advertise $5 pitchers of beer, when we got in they only had liquor because the all beer on tap was out of order. Smh. The drinks were sub par and it was dead. So basically a waste of time. In short, we believe it was not a tourist tax, but rather a black tax and mind you we are all well dressed professionals who just wanted to have a good time. A few weeks ago I went to Pour Choices with a large group of female friends celebrating a 21st birthday. The doormen called us in from the street advertising that ladies could come inside the bar for free (men would be required to pay a cover). After allowing most of our party inside, the doorman stopped my two friends, a lesbian couple, before they entered. They were asked: "Do you holla at boys, or do you holla at girls?" (asking about their sexual orientation). After my friends responded that they are attracted to women. Then they were told they would be treated "like guys" and were asked to pay ten dollars each. The incident was very upsetting for my friends, as they were singled out for being a lesbian couple. None of the other women in our party were asked this question or asked to pay cover charge. After the incident, I asked to speak to a manager. The original doorman we spoke to continuously cut into the conversation exclaiming that his sister is gay, and that he even asks her pay a cover charge before she visits Pour Choices. The manager made no attempt to correct the doorman's assertions. The manager simply said it was just the way things are- but that he could make an "exception" for my friends' 21st birthday just this once. The fact that the doorman asserted even his own gay family members were not exempt from being charged a cover for their sexuality- implied that this practice of charging gay women had been occurring for some time. Furthermore, when the manager made no attempt to correct the doorman and offered to let my friends in as an "exception", it further substantiated that this was a common practice. The ordeal left us all fairly distressed. My friends (the couple) had both turned 21 in the last week and were excited to explore sixth street for the first time. Instead they were met with discrimination and a horrible memory that will last a lifetime. We were expecting to enjoy ourselves, but instead left in tears. I hope Pour Choices puts forth a sincere effort to make this right. NOTE: I am posting my review again because my original review was taken down. I received an email from Yelp saying my review was removed because it was "motivated more by news coverage rather than one's own customer experience with the business". Everybody knows I'm no stranger to Dirty 6th. Every noteworthy memory I don't remember can be credited to the badassness that is the infamous 6th Street in Austin, TX. The value that Pour Choices added to the Austin nightlife when it opened up earlier this year has completely BLOWN MY MIND. Pour Choices has seriously upped the ante in making sure that they set THE standard on how a bar should look, and how it should run. Any night of the week you can always count on them to make your night a great one. From the music, the accent lighting, the boujee drink selection, big ass TVs to sweat your favorite games, to the friendly (and good looking teehee) staff, it's just a place you wanna go to with your friends to shoot the shit, dance like there's no tomorrow, or just have a badass time people-watching. Sure at times when it's busy, service can be a little slow, or it's so damn packed you can't move. This is part of the business and for them being 4 months in, I think they're doing a damn good job at rolling with the punches while trying to be the best bar they can be on 6th Street. Kudos to the staff, to the owners of the bar for creating THE hangout spot that people want to flock to on a Tuesday night. Came here to watch an Eagles game with the family, awesome atmosphere upstairs! Great spot to catch a game, bartenders were both quick and friendly. Pour Choices looks like a recent remodel on 6th Street, it lacks the layer of dirt that most spots do which is why you come to Austin. So in that regard it felt a little sterile. But overall it's actually quite nice inside which was a welcomed change. Live music at the front of the bar was a nice touch, it added some energy which we enjoy. A frozen marg and a beer was probably $10 which is a great deal. We were only in here for one drink while waiting for a table at dinner. Nice 6th Street bar to stop in. read more

I'm making this review particularly towards the lack of communication from this company. I went to this bar on a Friday night. Yes, it was busy, yes I had a great time. Drinks are always good, and the music is pretty good. Skip to the end of the night and I left my phone behind. So maybe, just maybe karma is in my favor and someone turned it in. So I call. I call the number listed on google around 3pm on Saturday, no answer. No voicemail set up to leave a message. Nothing. So I assume they'll call back or maybe I called at a bad time..... who knows. So I wait and try a little bit later, around 8pm... NOPE. NOTHING. I've emailed the company using their website, and have heard NOTHING. It is now Sunday, 3pm... and still again, NO ANSWER! I get that it was my fault for leaving my phone behind, but the very least they could do is call me and tell me they don't have it. I see that they might actually care about these reviews, so maybe this will be what it takes to get a call back. read more

This is by far my favorite place to party on 6th. The staff is always friendly and welcoming. Everyone always seems to be having a great time and I have NEVER seen any customer treated otherwise. We had been here several times and already loved Pour Choices as a hip downtown Austin bar in this historic district along 6th street. We asked if they would be interested in hosting our wedding there, and although they had not done this before, they agreed! And we were not disappointed. Their venue was naturally beautiful being in a historic building. The exposed and untouched brick walls, wooden floors, gorgeous natural lighting, and large covered outdoor patio overlooking downtown, contrasted against their modern bar and decor provided the perfect combination of old meets new for our design tastes. In addition, their top notch sound system provided a great party atmosphere. On top of this their staff was outstanding....the bartenders were friendly and professional, and management was super accommodating to our needs! Overall we had an absolutely wonderful experience having our wedding at this venue. You should visit this place even if you're just looking for a good drink, friendly staff, and a place to chill. Great name. If you go here honestly that would be the pour choice. Ordered a shot and the gave me a sip of alcohol. The bartenders are so rude, when I asked about the minimal amount of alcohol poured, she had the audacity to asked "would you like me to measure it?" So I said yes!!! When she measured it that "shot" wasn't even 3/4 full and she literally looked at me with a dead face and said "see it's a shot". I laughed so hard at this damn fool and walked out. They tried to tell me it's illegal to pour more than one ounce... first it wasn't even an ounce and secondly what about people asking for doubles or martinis. Get your business together. I somehow lost my entire wallet in the bar on Friday night and as soon as I realized I lost it, I went back to the bar while it was closed and they said they had cleaned the bar and they did not find anything. I also sent a message to them through google and woke up to a message saying they will look for it when they get in for the day. MY experience here was the worst and that's because that was the second bar I've been to ever because I JUST turned 21. I'm sure if you've been keeping up you know why I had a bad experience, if not just keep scrolling through the reviews. The fact that this happened to ME AND MY GIRLFRIEND is just as bad as it happening to every person being charged a "gay tax" or even for gender! But we have been told that's not the case for many LGBT bar goers, so if this happened to ONLY us then why shouldn't we feel victimized or embarrassed? The fact that this happened period is not right and something I have and never will stand for. So this is my first time speaking out because I have had enough of what this business is trying to do to make my party look like LIARS. That is not what we are, we are women of integrity and respect and that is not something we have gotten in return from the business or it's owner, Ryan Saunders, who has been very quiet about this whole situation since the start.
