Firstly, yum! I had gotten their Shumai, and crispy Pad Thai Noodles! Overall flavorful and delicious!

Favorite Thai spot in college and even now it still delivers the most solid pad Thai around - highly recommend

Meh. I really wanted to like this place, but the food just didn't hit the spot for me. Based on the reviews and the high ratings, I had pretty high expectations. Being in Boston, I was craving lobster. However, I should have known not to order seafood since I was staying so far away from the shore. I decided to go with the Fisherman's Madness, Lobster Pad Ped, and Cozy Shrimps. Decided against getting rice, which was a mistake lol. The shrimps in the Fisherman's Madness had great flavor, but the entire dish was like 80% peppers and onions. Lobster Pad Ped really needed rice, but since I didn't order any, it was just meh. Good flavor, but didn't really meet my expectations I guess. Restaurant was really nice. Actually called me right after I placed my order (via the app) to ask if I wanted rice. Sigh, I swear, this decision will forever haunt me. Delivery lady was super sweet. Waited by the elevator in my hotel for me and tried to have me rush because she saw how slow the elevator is at the hotel. Really thoughtful lady. I have had better Thai food back home in San Diego. I'd give this place a second chance though... next time, I'll stay away from seafood AND make sure I order rice, lol. read more

Mediocre Thai food that's nothing to write home about, but satisfies that craving for Thai when necessary. I came here on a Sunday lunch and it was quite quiet, which I greatly appreciated. The dining area was well lit by natural light and also some ceiling lights; overall a great feel for a semi-formal restaurant. I ordered the green curry with shrimp (lunch), which included rice. The curry had shrimp, eggplant, bamboo shoots, green beans, and green/red bell peppers. The curry sauce itself was a bit on the watery side - the consistency and taste wasn't as well done as I would have liked. Some of the vegetables (green beans and peppers) were leaning toward being undercooked, which I did not enjoy. However, the shrimp and eggplant was cooked well in my opinion. Also, the rice was a bit too dry and hard, losing some of its fragrance. Points added for how the food was nicely arranged! This was my first time trying Thai in Boston, and I was not greatly impressed. I would come here again because the food is decent and satisfies a craving, but I will also be looking for other Thai restaurants nearby to compare. read more

Delicious! My pad Thai was nice and flavorful. My friends also enjoyed their dishes such as the yummy lettuce, papaya salad, and a curry dish I forgot the name of (whoops). The waiter here was very kind and friendly! Would definitely go again since it's at a reasonable price :) read more

Probably one of the best thai places around here. Trust me, I've been to all the other ones. My friend got the Pad Thai and I got the Pad Woon Sen. We also tried the spring rolls. The spring rolls were okay, just average although plating was really pretty. The Pad Woon Sen was pretty good although I would have liked if it had more fungus ear. I really miss having that!! (my mom used to cook it all the time) I tried some of my friend's Pad Thai and it was super good, although a bit sweet. Compared to the other Pad Thais around here, it is probably #1. I'm sure their other stuff is good too, and since it is a bit pricey you would probably be getting the best food compared to the other cheaper places. The decor is also nice, I saw a few interesting painting on my walk to the bathroom ha. Although I do have to mention their bathroom is super hot and stuffy, I'm not quite sure why. Service is great A+. Heard their Old Lady Eggplant is their most popular dish so if you're up to trying something new... There was a couple who had a birthday and they turned down the lights and played a happy birthday song over the speakers. How sweet! read more

Shrimp shumai were served cold and frozen on the inside. Also tasted watery. Fried rice and curry were good.

The food is great. Descriptions are exactly what you are going to get. For spicy dishes, they tend toward "white-people level," so order a couple notches hotter if you want it how Thai people eat it. Tofu dishes have a ton of tofu, cooked correctly, and dishes tend to have a good portion of the "good" vegetables, not mostly cheap filler vegetables like some places. The customer service here is amazing though. When we've ordered delivery, they've called super apologetic if it's going to be even a few minutes later than quoted. And the one time they forgot part of an order, they rushed it over along with free drinks. The owner and staff, who have all been there a long time, just seem like super nice and super accommodating people. read more

Always a reliable and delicious finale to a day spent at the MFA. The Tofu Triangles are just the right amount of crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Fantastic local spot with nice staff and authentic Thai cuisine. Delicious soups and curry!

Love the sleek vibes here. Thaitaion is perfectly located, steps away from the MFA, Fenway Park proper, and local T stations. There's all the classics on this menu, however my friends and I do like picking items like the crispy pad thai, drunken chicken, pad see ew. Most of the menu offers protein substitutions, perfect for picky eaters. Portions are plentiful and I can usually make 2 meals out of one plate. Was in the mood for Thai food on my way to a Sox game at Fenway. Have passed in front of Thaitation a number of times before without stopping in, but decided to try it this time - even though I had limited time. Glad I did. Waitress was very friendly and suggested I try the country style Pad Thai, which she described as a more authentic version of the dish. It was delicious and came out of the kitchen within minutes piping hot. Excellent, speedy service and very reasonable prices - unusual these days. I had no issues getting to the game on time. Highly recommended. read more

Good food! Def take advantage of the large menu and get something besides the padthai. I got the garlic (with chicken) and it was delicious.

They were over half an hour late, the food order was made the day before and the website said it would be there by noon. Because they were so late the staff meeting had to be interupted so people could get their food. Delivery woman was flustered, told me she called me but there was no call on my phone. She said she was sorry but sounded much more angry about parking than apologetic. She didn't so much yell at me as much as she yelled next to me, which also disturbed the meeting. The food was fine other than it had cooled down a lot and the scallion pancakes were soggy. Not sure I'd order from them again, which is a shame because my work spends between $80 to $100 a week on delivery for meetings and my co-workers seem to really like Thai food. read more

I have only ordered take out from here and always good! My go to is the chicken skewers with the peanut sauce, and the yellow curry with chicken. One time I didn't realize that rice was extra/didn't come with the order, so I had to sub with my own side. This last time though i remembered to place an order of rice. The order preparation is pretty fast and i received my order with Uber eats within 30 min! Totally great and def recommend it! Will try to go have some in person sometime soon! read more

I had lunch here alone before meeting friends at the Red Sox game, went to pay and my credit card didn't work. I only had my credit card to pay because it always works. I asked the woman in her 20's who was serving and running the bar/takeout if I could use Venmo, to which she laughed at me and said 'no'. I called my credit card company from the table and they were unsure why the card wasn't working but would reissue one. I had to call my boyfriend to have him read off his credit card to her to pay. The woman grabbed the phone from me, kept rolling her eyes and slamming her hand on the table while her other hand was putting in the credit card number. I felt kind of afraid of how aggressive she was and she had little empathy for this wacky situation I was in and I was trying to pay. The receipt printed, she gave me my phone back and I kept talking to my boyfriend because I was uncomfortable and I walked out of the door. The woman comes running out of the door with the receipt and yells, 'what, you are not going to tip me? and sign this!'. She gives me the receipt to sign, but when I go to give it back she has already walked away. I leave the receipt inside so she can take it. My boyfriend advised me to take a picture of the receipt to be safe and I'm glad I did. I had a really bad experience here with the service. As far as the food, it was fine though the rice tasted old and even for a lunch portion it was very small, and I left still hungry (and sad). I honestly do not recommend Thaitation based on my experience. There are so many great restaurants to try in the Fenway area, please go to those instead of this one. read more

For quite some time, the convenience of it being a block away was not enough to overcome the fact that they wanted $11 for an order of pad thai. But one night last week i really wanted some, so i figured i would finally give it a whirl. While i was encouraged by the large foil brick-like tray with some decent heft to it in the takeout bag, at first, i don't really feel like i can recommend it if, like me, you define the quality of a Thai place by the quality of its pad thai. Yes, i am aware that is narrow-minded of me. So probably a third of the tray was uncooked bean sprouts, which aren't bad, but not really what you're paying for. The pad thai itself had a decent helping of chicken (i don't like shrimp, yes, i know i am a fussy eater), but it seemed as if the sauce had all trickled down to the bottom of the tray as opposed to permeating into and adhering onto the noodles. Once i got to the bottom, the flavor of the sauce and remaining noodles was overpowering and not in a good way. There didn't seem to be any egg or tofu, which was also disappointing, given the cost. Suffice it to say, i'm willing to walk more than a few blocks for something better. read more

My dining partner and I stepped into Thaitation on a Saturday night, around 8pm. The first thing I noticed was that the place was dimly lit, warm and nice-smelling. Not the yummy food smells you'd expect like lemongrass and basil, but pleasant enough heavy candle smells. The second thing I noticed was that the place was pretty empty. On a Saturday night. Ouch! Nevertheless, my friend and I sat down at a little table by the windows. The service was quick and uber-friendly (although speed may be explained by emptiness), full points there. The food -- not so much. We started with the fresh summer rolls -- which are essentially grated lettuce and one steamed shrimp in a soft rice wrapper. Light and fresh, but pretty tasteless without the supplied chilli-honey sauce. Our main course experiences were mixed. The panang curry with chicken (and chickpeas, red peppers, baby corn, bamboo shoots, kaffir lime leaves) was just tolerable. The dominating flavors -- coconut milk and generic hotness -- drowned out the fresh veggies that should have sparkled in this dish. Not the best curry I've had. That said, the curry was the highlight because the chicken smelled and tasted a little off, like it had been sitting raw in its own juices in the refrigerator for a few days past its freeze-by date. Not appetizing! Oh well. I fished around the chicken and salvaged what I could of my dinner. The other main, a drunken noodle dish, was definitely a better choice. The large, squishy noodles were perfectly stir fried, and flavored well with oil and spices. Sadly, the off-tasting chicken again ruined what would have been a perfect noodle dish. My dining partner didn't seem too bothered by the chicken, but he is also known to ingest anything remotely edible. Maybe my recently-veering-towards-vegetarianism palate has something to do with my strong reaction to the chicken? Idk. For dessert, we tried the fried ice cream and the chilled lychees. The fried ice cream was delicious -- can't really go wrong with something like that if the place knows how to fry things. The chilled lychees arrived in a bowl of ice water garnished with mint and orange. Alas, they were half frozen and clearly from a can. Not yummy. In terms of value -- this place is definitely overpriced, with most entrees priced higher than $14. And rice isn't included with the entrees -- you need to order it separately. So, in sum, passable food, great service, not-so-great value. I will probably stick to veggies on my next visit if I am in a hurry for Thai and don't want to hike downtown to Chilli Duck. read more

Sorry to disagree with most of the other posters, but this was my experience. I hated this place. The portions were small, the food was way overpriced, and the staff were mediocre. I went in this place and sat down, and it looked nice, similar to how it was before when it was Brown Sugar, but less Thailand-ish glitz. That was fine, it was still nicely decorated, just not as nice. I was really surprised at how many wait-staff they had considering the time of night, how cold (freezing) it was outside (meaning there were less people out and about going to dinner), and how many (few) people were in the restaurant to begin with. They had like 8-10 wait-staff working. It was ridiculous, I met 3-4 of them because ever time someone new came to assist me, however, they were really not very attentive. Additionally, they couldn't understand my English, and I could barely understand theirs. Which is fine, I suppose, I've dealt with worse. To continue, the prices on the menu were absurd! It was so ridiculous! The prices were 50% higher than any other thai restaurant in Boston that I've been to! Panang curry chicken was $2 more expensive than any other curry dishes, and I don't understand that. They also refused to make a substitution on an appetizer I wanted. I asked if they would replace half of one appetizer with another type of appetizer... It was the sort of thing you could easily do - 6 pieces of individually fried/steamed whatever, and i just wanted 3 of them to be replaced with 3 pieces of individually fried/steamed of something else - and each appetizer was the same price! He went back and checked and then came back to tell me no - i'm sure he was assuming i'd just order the appetizer un-changed, but I didn't want it. When I told him I was fine with just the Papaya Salad and side order of tom yum soup (not very good and extremely small!) he looked at me like he was shocked that was all i was ordering, but I couldn't afford anything else and i only desired the type of appetizer i desired, not the kind they offered. My reasoning for their expensive prices is the fact that they were over-staffed, and in order to pay all those people they must have to charge too much. I won't support that kind of business tactics ever again. Avoid this place at all costs. read more

I don't give 5 stars unless my world rocks under my feet...this gets close to * * * * * when it comes to Thai in Boston ! ( the city has ample supply of mediocre to bad Thai ) ordered the TomYum soup, Massaman curry, Duck ChooChee, Thai Iced Coffee = all were delicious. Wonderful service. The prices on the lunch menu were reasonable. So far this is my top choice for Thai and will be back to pump another star in the rating. read more

Gosh I love this place! This restaurant replaced Brown Sugar but I think it's just as good. They have these delicious chicken wings that I just love. My favorite Thai place in Boston, and let me tell you, I'm picky when it comes to Thai food. I really like Brown Sugar but this place beats it out for sheer value. Portions are large, in fact I usually split an entree and a few apps with my girlfriend and we always come out feeling full and satisfied. Service is extremely fast and friendly, and even though we've eaten here at least 50 times in the past year, we've never had a bad experience. This place might be the only restaurant I'll miss when I move back home to California in a couple months. Best menu item by far is country style Pad Thai - it's the perfect mix of spicy yet still very flavorful. Other restaurants tend to make it too hot to taste the flavor of the sauce, but Thaitation gets it just right. read more

I went to Thaitation for dinner the other night. It was perfectly adequate Thai food - no explicit complaints, it just didn't particularly stand out. They did a nice job serving enough vegetables with the dishes (not always an assumption) and the portions were a good size, but was just good, not great. We're new to the neighborhood and have been making the rounds checking out different spots - we'll keep looking for Thai food. read more

This food is A-OK. Actually, it's bette than Ok, it's pretty good. However, it's the price that knocks this restaurant down from 4 to 3 stars for me...more 3.5 stars I started with the Thai spring rolls and ordered the Gra Pow fried rice for my main dish. I enjoyed the spring rolls but they were nothing special. I liked the Gra Pow fried rice. It was flavorful and spicy and a generous portion size. I got it with ground pork I believe. It left me feeling thirsty so it might've been a bit salty, which is to be expected with most fried rices I think. My friend ordered the red curry which she really enjoyed. We both ended up with leftovers. Overall I had a positive experience at Thaitation. However, when my bill came I couldnt help but think that I could've enjoyed an equally tasty (if not more) meal down the street at Rod Dee for half the price. You pay for the service and ambiance I suppose... If you're in the area, I recommend trying Thaitation! read more

Thaitation, or if you've been going here long enough, the original Brown Sugar Cafe, was yet another staple for my boyfriend and I when we lived in the Fenway area. We have been going to this restaurant for 5 years. When it switched to Thaitation from BSC, the head chef stayed the same, so the only thing that changed was the ownership and the prices on the menu. Not enough of a different to notice. We ordered out here almost every other week, we really had a problem. The way they pump their delicious smelling food out a chimney or vent does not help the urge to order up a Beef Pad Se Ew either.... I highly recommend the Pad Se Ew, Thai Fried Rice, Pineapple Fried Rice and Pad Thai. The Golden Triangles were another favorite. I got some weird drink here once, the Emerald City or something. I think the name drew me in (being a big Wizard of Oz fan). That was a bad decision...the drink was basically green food-coloring mixed with water and corn syrup. It turned my mouth green and my stomach sour. I had a stomach ache for hours afterward and I didn't even finish it. Wonder if it's still on the menu... You can eat in or get take out, prices stay the same either way. Take out is usually 15 minutes or less. The inside of the restaurant is very cute, with soft colors and what seem to be authentic decorations and wall hangings. One thing I always liked about this place was that they decorate for the season. Halloween, Christmas, whatever holiday, they put up little decorations. It's very cute and brings a warm, community feeling. Makes you all warm and fuzzy inside, doesn't it? The food can come off a little fast-foody, seeing as they're one of the most popular restaurants in that area, they're pumping out a lot of food and this can lend to decreased quality and decreased attention to detail or authenticity. All in all, I obviously kept going back. The food is quick, tasty and reasonably priced. Never any problems with the service or personnel. In fact, they were always very warm and welcoming and even said hi to our dogs waiting in the foyer when we picked up our food. read more

I'm so glad this place opened up. I was really concerned after Brown Sugar closed and Rod Dee burned down. I have to have at least a handful of thai joints within a 10 minute walk at all times! It obviously has retained the atmosphere of Brown Sugar and the food is the same too. Love the Massaman Curry with Tofu and the Pad Thai. Delivery is a bit pricey but when it's super cold and I'm hungry, I will order knowing that I will have a great meal! read more

I've only been here once but I tried their vegetable curry (red curry) and it was amazing!!! So good that I honestly considered having them put just the curry sauce in a little doggy bag container for me. My husband and I couldn't stop taking spoonfuls of it even after the actual food was gone. Perfect amount of kick. My husband ordered the chicken basil dish and he was equally impressed. ( I don't eat meat so I will take his word for it :) Nice place to go with friends or on a date night. The inside has not changed since it was Brown Sugar but it's still nice. The staff are super friendly and even though other reviewers have commented on the prices, we didn't feel as though it was unreasonable. After all this place is an actual restaurant, not a crummy take out stand. The meal came out to about $50.00 but we ordered two glasses of wine, a beer, and our main dish which was ample food and if we weren't gluttons, we'd have lunch the next day as well. Since Asian food is my favorite, I'll be adding this to the list. read more

The first time I ate food from Thaitation it was take-out. It was pretty good but I was not completely sold. Now that I live a block away, I knew I had to go back in person. I was pleasantly surprised that the red wine I ordered was actually really good. Stood up to the spiciness of the Thai food very well (I asked for extra, extra, extra spicy). My friend ordered the scallion pancakes to start, which I love but always try to avoid ordering... so good!!! I had the pad see ew, really good and I was especially impressed that they actually listened to my requests for heat (this never happens). My boyfriend asked for his the same and he was really happy with his drunken noodles. Our friend had this awesome pineapple boat to hold his food, very creative for a little Thai place. I am excited to have this be my new neighborhood Thai place. When I lived in Somerville, I frequented Tip Top Thai before it closed and have not been Thai-satisfied since. I am also excited that they are now on LevelUp! read more

The environment of the restaurant is nice, and the service was very good. That's really the most I can say for this place. The food isn't as good as cheaper places in the direct vicinity (see: Rod Dee 2) Also as implied in the last sentence, this place is kind of pricey for the food quality they provide. If you want a place to go with a nice atmosphere and service, this is a good place. If you want good food at a low price, this is not a good place. read more

I was greeted when I got here. The place was crowded, but not yet to the point where it was packed. My boyfriend and I ordered the Karee Puffs, Seafood Volcano, and Crispy Pad Thai. It took a while before our order was taken, and even longer before food started coming out. The Karee Puffs came in three. It was nice and crispy. It's a hint of curry flavor with potato and chicken, but you can barely taste any chicken. As for the Pad Thai, it was just as the name described it: crispy. It's not flat noodles; it's small rounded noodles, similar to how Chinese restaurants make their chow mein. I wasn't a bit fan of this dish, but that's just my personal preference. The Seafood Volcano came out wrapped in aluminum foil and on fire!! It went out in like 10 seconds though, and the server cut it open. It was like seafood galore inside!! It had jumbo shrimp, scallops, salmon, squid, beans, and basil in a curry-ish sauce. Although the portion wasn't that big, I'm glad that the restaurant didn't skimp on the seafood by throwing in a majority of veggies in there. Then after we were finished, we waited maybe about 10 minutes for the server to come and give us the bill. During that time, they were just huddled around the cash register. After getting the bill, it took them another 10 minutes come back to take my card. Overall, the food as been pretty solid, other than the crispy pad thai, so I'd come back, but I'm just not that satisfied with the service. There's a lot of waiting going on, especially when it comes to getting the server's attention...and each time they're just huddled together at the register. Even the table next to me had the same issue. They were sitting around for a good 15 minutes for the server to come back after getting their bill, while I was still eating. So.. they should step it up on that. read more
