We stopped into Thaitation for lunch between visits to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts; it was the perfect spot, since it only took us about 5 minutes out of the way. The restaurant was casual, but nice, and had several other tables of diners at that time. The staff was very friendly, as well. The menu had some really interesting dishes that I had not seen elsewhere, but I was lame and ordered my usual - Chicken Pad See Ew. I found the poultry to be very tender, and the included broccoli was fresh and crisp. I should note that the broccoli used was the popular Calabrese kind, while Chinese broccoli cost $1 more. In fact, there were several upcharges scattered around the menu, which was a bit much. Anyway, back to the dish...In addition to the broccoli, carrots were also included, which was not typical for Pad See Ew, but I was fine with it! The sweet soy sauce was a bit thick, like a light gravy, so that was a bit unusual, but the flavor was terrific! I heard reasonably positive things about their Pad Thai and Drunken Noodles as well. Unassuming restaurant. Not very large, but plenty of open seats on a Friday night. Service was very quick. Noise levels were low for most of the meal, but at one point turned up to blast a rendition of "happy birthday" for another guest - after that, music stayed a bit too loud, which seemed to clash with the otherwise calm ambiance. They didn't ask for our preferred spice levels for the main dishes, and I would've liked everything a little bit spicier. We originally wanted the salmon spring rolls but they were out. We got Tod Mun (fried fish cakes) instead, and they were really tasty. They were smaller but greater in quantity than what I've seen elsewhere, and the sauce was good. I'm not a huge fan of the side salads, though this one surprised me with the spiciness in the dressing. We ordered the mango curry (which comes with chicken, and we added steamed tofu for no charge) and tofu drunken noodles. The noodles were really good, plus looked more appetizing than the similarly-popular pad thai. I was hoping the mango in the curry would be large, beautiful pieces of sweet mango on top, so I was a little disappointed that the small chunks weren't quite as flavorful as I was hoping for. However, I was still quite happy with the dish overall. It also comes with a (pretty small) bowl of rice on the side. The food by itself would be 4 stars for me, except that at the very end of my meal, as I was polishing off the curry, I found a long hair stuck to the bottom of my plate. Gem of a spot- cozy clean and no frills, big entree portions and sizeable apps. Our waitress was attentive and never left water glasses empty. We got the crab Rangoons and egg drop soup as starters (no complaints) and crispy pad Thai and noodle aspar for mains. This is a hole in the wall near Fenway- didn't know it was here and decided to pop in with a friend. I tried the pad see ew and thought it was decent. This is the best little Thai restaurant in Boston. It's tucked away towards the end of Jersey St. I usually forget to check in. There are lots of great things on the menu, but my favorites here are the Thai spring rolls, green curry on brown rice, and the fried ice cream. The service is prompt and the food has always been done correctly in all my time coming here. It's a generally quiet place that can pick up around lunch and towards dinner. This was the weirdest Thai food I have ever had. Everything was beige. And soupy. I eat a lot of Thai at home and I have never had beige Pad Thai. It is usually on the dry side and orange due to the spice mix. At Thaitation it was soupy and wet. And sweet to the point I couldn't force myself to eat more than a few bites. And the noodles were soft and overcooked, more like a chow fun. The green curry was better. The flavor was good but it was also beige (see photos). The veggies were soft and the texture were off. How do I give it 10 stars? I am a native Bostonian and cannot believe I just learned of this place! It is not too far from Fenway but nestled in a residential neighborhood so in essence, to me, this is a HIDDEN GEM. This is a family owned Thai restaurant with no frills, just simply focusing on preparing a delicious meal for their customers. The service was amazing and the staff was friendly and humble. The curry puff was the best I've ever had. The other appetizers were amazing. I had Khao Soi for the first time and truly enjoyed the flavors. Based on Early Pandemic 2022 visits Having perused the Yelp reviews for Thaination ahead of time, I was aware that they had a few parking spots. They sure weren't out front as it seems to be a permit only neighborhood, and I wasn't a local resident. I chanced it and dove into the alley beside the restaurant and after looking about confusedly, asked a passersby if they knew where Thaination's spots were. Turns out I just needed to drive a bit further in and they were the marked spots beside the next building to my right. It was a bit cramped with a trash bin set on the left, across from spot #12, so I ran in to claim my order, and exited lickety-split. Highlights of lunch at Thaination were the $3.50 Thai Iced Tea, Honey Glazed Spareribs appetizer $9.50 and Mango with Sweet Sticky Rice $8.50. The meat was tender, tasty, and came off the bones very easily. The mango was sweet and tender yet not overly ripe, and the accompanying sticky rice rich and tasty. Everything else sufficed. Yummy Lettuce appetizer $8.94 was wisely packed to go decomposed, keeping the fried rice vermicelli strands crispy. It came with 5 half leaves and plenty of the minced chicken and mini shrimp and veggie filling to go around. The Create Your Own Vegetable Saute Entree $9.50 with assorted vegetables and garlic and oyster sauce was tasty and a nice mix of firm veggies. The duck ($1 surcharge) was a sufficient 5 tender slices of the dark meat fowl, and it also came with white rice (other carb options were available for a fee of 50 cents). Their Pad See-Ew $9.50 was easily upgraded to fried chicken for a reasonable $2 charge, and was tasty and not overly sweet. Their fried chicken (also available separately as an add on for $6) was dark meat tender, but had lost its crisp on the commute, despite their thoughtful hole punch in the cover. Their Vegetable Pad Thai lunch $9.50 came with both tofu (2 triangles) and assorted crisp vegetables, which I appreciated. Alternatively, Pad Thai came with fried chicken for $11.50. The Thai Fried Rice lunch $9.50 was tasty, and the pair of shrimp it came with were fine, but the slices of white meat chicken were a bit dry. The portion for the Roast Duck over Rice $10.50 was enough for me, though a heavier eater might be wanting for a bit more meat and veggie, as the 7 slices of meaty duck looked smaller than the portion of fried chicken that accompanies other lunch entrees. The Seafood Dynasty $12 came with 1 mussel, 1 scallop, 2 shrimp, and 3 chewy squid. It wasn't marked to be spicy on the menu, but it came with a kick. While the Honey Pork $10.50 came with dry pork, firm veggies and a tasty sauce. Their Pad See-Ew could be improved upon, as it was overcooked with soft noodles and vegetables, though the tofu protein option came with a satisfactory 5 deep-fried triangles. The dryness of the chicken from the basic Pad Thai was helped by a dunk in the peanut sauce $1, but that sauce was actually my least favorite part of our meal as it tasted off. My guess was that it tasted old, while my DC couldn't quite put a finger on it. I'd recommend upgrading from the default shrimp and chicken to the fried chicken when that's an option. The duck is also a good alternative, though the portion was a bit more generous with the fried chicken as a swap at lunchtime. Their Limeade $4 was good, though personally, I preferred the Thai iced tea. Thaination is wheelchair accessible, but both their doors put up a fight when I attempted to open them. Not sure if they were just heavy, or if the joints could do with some greasing. 3.5 stars. read more

Their restaurant actually had quite a bit of space compared to other spots nearby, so I wouldn't expect to wait long (however I also came during off hours). Ambiance - the is a small.place that was packed when I got there. Clearly very popular And the food. Got the panang curry, green curry and kare puffs. The panang curry was amazing. I got level 3 spicy and next time will go for max (wasn't spicy at all though I do have a very high tolerance) the puffs were also delicious. The menu says they should have chicken, we didn't see any chicken in them, though the flavor was great. Lastly the green curry...oh the poor green curry. I wouldn't be surprised if they forgot to add the curry to this one. The curry itself was milky white and flavorless. Zero spiciness. Vegetables were well cooked though. In full disclosure the green curry was requested without fish sauce (allergy) but I'd be shocked if the last of any flavor is due to a missing dash offish sauce. The rice, although tasty, consisted of many vegetables that i was excited about, as it's rare to find fried rice with so many veggies especially cucumbers and tomatoes. The wonton soup was alright, but they gave me one small singular wonton On the bright side the Thai Tea was delicious, and i definitely recommend it. Placed a to-go order here for their tom yum noodle soup lunch ($10.95) and Thai iced tea ($3.50). My order was ready within 10 minutes but I was late to pick it up. When I arrived, the staff member confirmed my order and went to the back, where I saw her add ice to my cup of Thai tea. My order was also packaged really nicely. The noodles were separated from the soup and the restaurant used small pieces of cardboard to keep the items separate and prevent leaking. I appreciated how much effort they put into packaging the food. The Thai iced tea had a good balance between sweetness and creaminess. Probably the best Thai iced tea I've tried in Boston so far! The noodle soup came with various meat/seafood (ground pork, chicken, squid, shrimp, scallop). I found the protein to be on the bland side. It didn't soak up much of the broth flavor. The broth was sweeter than most tom yum soup broths I've tried. I also wish it was more spicy. For $11 the portion was pretty decent. The presentation was nice, but sadly the food was meh. Some portions of the rice were room-temperature and even cold, whereas other portions of it were hot. This place was a secret amazing find off the beaten path near Fenway Park! These spareribs were literally glistening in the sunlight with a sweet honey glaze coating that I mopped up at the bottom of the plate. The bone in these guys, not JUST the meat, fell apart because they were too tender. My second favorite dish was definitely the red curry, which was on the sweeter side and had a good mix of veggies that were cooked perfect (no mushiness). The karee puff reminded me of a curry empanada, and the fried chicken in the pad thai was pretty different than standard crispy chicken pad thai, but still very moist and fresh! Came here with a friend. This place was very cozy and the decor gave an authentic vibe. The food was really good and nicely flavored. 1. Cozy Shrimps: nicely fried and the sauce matched very well. Reminded me of the fried shrimp rolls from dimsum! 2. Caramelized Salmon Noodle: this was my favorite dish so far. The curry sauce was so good and the noodles absorbed all the sauce. I googled this place because I was craving for Thai food. There front door is hard to pull ( needs repair) the place is a bit run down and has a weird stench and their flower vase gots to go. Curry dishes, sauce was good, vegetables cooked well, but chicken was once again way too dry, and overcooked. Not sure what the rave reviews are, this place has zero ambiance, bathroom is filthy, and the food is simply edible . You won't die if you eat it, is that a reason to eat there?. Wait staff is pleasant, in a bit of a hurry to close the place , but considering the lack of traffic on a Saturday night, i can't say that I blame them. I was as happy to leave as they were. Though the spring rolls was just one cut in half on top a bed of salad. The portion was decent sized to be finished in one meal, no leftovers. The pad Thai flavor was stronger than other pad Thais I've had, but pretty good. The chicken was kinda of dry so I'd recommend getting tofu instead.
