Food is back to decent and service is back to decent. A pretty good Thai Food place in downtown Boston.

So crowded on a late Thursday night, one hour before closing. Seated a few minutes after we checked in. We wanted to start with the Beef Larb, but they were out. Settled for Steamed Kapow Dumplings and Cheesy Shrimp Rolls. We couldn't wrap our heads around mixing mozzarella and shrimp, but these were so good. We equally enjoyed the dumplings. For entrees, we had Pla Pad Ped (spicy crispy cod w vegetables), Spicy Noodle Soup, and Cashew Nut Stirfry. Every item was delicious. Another return spot to enjoy when we're in Boston.

Some of the best thai food ive had! The service is do quick! Even if there was a wait outside we were able to get seated pretty quickly. They took our orders in line and got our food as soon as we got our seat. It is a smaller area but it had a lot of seating available and so cozy!

I came here while visiting Boston for work. I was looking for a quick lunch spot. Overall the experience was good. It was fairly busy during lunch. It seemed like a popular place for tourists and locals as well (this may have been because a farmer's market was open right next door). Good vibe overall. The service was good -- nothing amazing/negative to report on. I did appreciate how the menu highlighted what was vegetarian and what was not. The food was pretty good. Not the best Thai food I've had. The tofu soup was good. Tasted a bit like miso soup. The Basil fried rice was also good, but I think it could have used a bit more flavor. I would come back again to try other things on the menu!

This is a cute thai eatery with good quality food with pretty affordable prices. The curries and noodles here are consistently good, would definitely recommend the pad kee Mao and Panang curry. The tom yum soup is a little thin and bland. The service is a little slow, I think there's not enough wait staff. The tables are quite small so only come with a small group. Each dish is less than $17-21 which is pretty good for the area. The portion sizes aren't the largest but I think the food is filling enough. They're currently out of their dessert/ice cream.

Service was amazing. Waited 10 minutes to be seated. Walk in no reservations. Food really good. The kitchen is an open concept and because of that the fumes might affect you and you might start coughing a lot. But overall place was amazing.

Surprisingly solid Thai spot right next to Haymarket. The place has been busy both times I've come so be prepared to potentially wait for a seat! It seems like a popular takeout spot as well if you're willing to do that too. The menu has a decent selection of apps and entrees at reasonable prices. Food comes out pretty fast and service is quick - the server is very fast-paced and more down to business so don't expect a super friendly vibe. The food was solid - filling and flavorful. I recently went again after my first trip and honestly that was a bit more disappointing, I'd say stick to regular noodle and curry dishes since the duck was really small and the cheese shrimp rolls were not great. Overall, I enjoyed my meals and wouldn't mind coming back if in the area again. Their classic Thai dishes are definitely the stars and their drinks are also very solid - Thai tea was great!

The perfect casual but delicious Thai experience. I lived dangerously close to Kala Thai and would take every opportunity to order out or dine in. I've tried half the menu by now, and from the Pad Thai to spring rolls and curries, you can't go wrong. Nuts and bolts: quite affordable ($$) and definitely a great price point for the high quality good. Parking is tough in the area, but it is right outside the Haymarket MBTA stop. The place gets busy in the evenings, but I've never had to wait more than 10min!!

    Pad Thai

Got the pad Thai with shrimp and corn cake. Pad Thai is slightly sour. It'll be better if it's less sour. The rice noodle is pretty thin and it's easy to break. The shrimp is pretty fresh. The corn cake smells good when it first came out. It definitely tastes better when it's hot. When it's cold, it's better to eat with the sauce. In general, the portion is big and it's not that expensive. They are popular the night after Christmas. There's a small line to dine in.

Walking around the hotel to check out the restaurants around Faneuil Hall. Been eating Italian and seafood dishes and was looking for something different when I saw a line outside Kala Thai Cookery. I take it as a good sign whenever there is a line and they did not disappoint. It took 20 minutes to get seated. They were taking orders just before going in. Guess that's being efficient. Started with the fried tofu. Coated with light crispy batter on the outside and soft on the inside. Word of caution... it came smoking hot literally. For my main, ordered the Kapow (3 sign) with ground pork. It was delicious and just right amount of spice. The dinner portion was huge and good for sharing. It's even bigger than portions in Texas! It was a little salty. Should have asked if I can order sunny side up egg with it. Order comes with a side of white rice. Restaurant has a modern and rustic feel. They have table and countertop seatings. Authentic Thai food in downtown Boston. I would come back again when I'm in the area and try their other dishes. Everything looks good from the surrounding tables!

Garlic Bok Choy with tofu and Pineapple Curry with Tofu

Despite eating a full breakfast, then eating after breakfast ice cream, I was told this was the best Thai restaurant in Boston so I made sure to try Kala Thai out. It's easy to miss, so make sure to google maps this place. It's a very small restaurant, kitchen is open concept so it's a modern hole in the wall. The lunch menu was very affordable and expansive. There's a little bit of everything on it. I ordered the Garlic Bok Choy and my friend ordered the Pineapple Curry. Both came with white rice. You can upgrade to brown rice for an extra charge. I absolutely loved how the veggies weren't cooked to mush and that my entree came on a banana leaf. Both were beautifully presented dishes and full of flavor. I'm a huge fan of the fried tofu so already that was a win in my books. Garlic Bok Choy - think fried garlic tossed amongst simple veggies and the star is the bok choy. Aromatic, bold, oily stir fry in the best way. Pineapple Curry - fresh, bright, and tastes like it was cooking for hours with pineapple simmering at the last minute. We beat the crowd and there weren't too many other tables at the time. But I'm told that this place fills up all the time, so don't be surprised.

BEST THAI FOOD IN BOSTON!!! The noodles are delicious. I highly recommend the char kway Tao. The ambiance inside is also lovely and the service is fast and friendly.

Thai restaurant with solid food. They don't have much seating inside so you need your full party to be seated. They also try to take your order before seating you to speed up the process.

The restaurant was casual, but nice, and had several other tables of diners at that time. The staff was very friendly, as well. The menu had some really interesting dishes that I had not seen elsewhere, but I was lame and ordered my usual - Chicken Pad See Ew. I found the poultry to be very tender, and the included broccoli was fresh and crisp. I should note that the broccoli used was the popular Calabrese kind, while Chinese broccoli cost $1 more. In fact, there were several upcharges scattered around the menu, which was a bit much. Anyway, back to the dish...In addition to the broccoli, carrots were also included, which was not typical for Pad See Ew, but I was fine with it! The sweet soy sauce was a bit thick, like a light gravy, so that was a bit unusual, but the flavor was terrific! I heard reasonably positive things about their Pad Thai and Drunken Noodles as well. Thaitation would be a place I would frequent if I lived in the area.

Noise levels were low for most of the meal, but at one point turned up to blast a rendition of "happy birthday" for another guest - after that, music stayed a bit too loud, which seemed to clash with the otherwise calm ambiance. They didn't ask for our preferred spice levels for the main dishes, and I would've liked everything a little bit spicier. We originally wanted the salmon spring rolls but they were out. We got Tod Mun (fried fish cakes) instead, and they were really tasty. They were smaller but greater in quantity than what I've seen elsewhere, and the sauce was good. I'm not a huge fan of the side salads, though this one surprised me with the spiciness in the dressing. We ordered the mango curry (which comes with chicken, and we added steamed tofu for no charge) and tofu drunken noodles. The noodles were really good, plus looked more appetizing than the similarly-popular pad thai. I was hoping the mango in the curry would be large, beautiful pieces of sweet mango on top, so I was a little disappointed that the small chunks weren't quite as flavorful as I was hoping for. However, I was still quite happy with the dish overall. It also comes with a (pretty small) bowl of rice on the side. The food by itself would be 4 stars for me, except that at the very end of my meal, as I was polishing off the curry, I found a long hair stuck to the bottom of my plate. It didn't match ours, so I know for sure it came from the staff. I know it happens, but the ick factor is hard to get over. Knocked off a star for the unfortunate hair.

I had never heard of this dish before but it quickly became a favorite in my household and we always order at least one order of it. Basically, it is described as "thin egg noodles with Thai style roast pork, fish balls, chinese broccoli, bean sprouts, and topped with crispy wonton." It is AMAZING. On top of what's listed, it comes with ground pork in the noodles and a sweet and savory sauce that perfectly coats the egg noodles. There are 3 different kinds of fish balls - a shrimp one, a whitefish one, and a fried one, as well as peanuts, deliciously juicy roast pork (char sew), and the crispy wontons add that perfect extra texture and crunch. Man, if I could eat this every week I would. Easily a 5/5 - this is the only place I've seen this dish and it is out of this world. The rest of the menu is also great, but you absolutely have to try the Ba Mee Song Kruang if you come here.
