It's the type of place where you to go up to the counter to order, even though there's a decent amount of seating. Even if you're dining in, they serve your food in to go containers. In terms of food, the menu has a mix of classic Thai and fusion dishes. We ordered the Drunken Noodle and Massaman Curry, both with chicken. The Drunken Noodle had a decent taste, but I think it could have used a bit more flavor. The noodles itself had the right texture, with a bit of chew. The Massaman Curry was a bit thinner in consistency than I'm used to, as it seemed like it had less coconut milk than most curries I've tried. It still had a good flavor profile to it, though. I don't think this would be my top pick for Thai food in Boston, but it's decent if you're looking for something quick downtown. read more

To begin the food was outstanding, the spice levels are true to what it tells you. The spice gets stronger as you eat (obviously)but a few sips from my Thai tea, I was ready for more. I had my soup first, but my gra pow followed really soon after. My soup was served HOT in temp, everything is served " to go", but the portions are a bit on the bigger side so it works. This place definitely seems more like a hole in the wall, and so on my lunch break, I conveniently stumbled upon this place and decided to give it a try. I decided to try the tom yum noodle soup, and I was pleasantly surprised at how flavorful and delicious the soup was. There were tinges of sweet, spicy and sour, and all the flavor profiles combined into one piping hot soup was the perfect blend. There was a good amount of soup and noodle, so I feel that it was a good price for the portion of food that I got, not to mention all the pieces of seafood that was added. I feel that the fishy taste was a little strong in the squid and scallop, and the soup was a little too salty for me, but overall, pretty good impression and would love to come back and try other items on the menu. read more

Meh. I've been walking by this place for years. The other day I was walking by at lunch time thinking about... oh, hey! Siam Bistro. I was eager to give it a try. Since it was just me, I ordered one dish, my Thai go-to: krapow. Yay! Right? Eh. The place was busy with what looked like financial district/tourists looking for lunch. There are (maybe) two tables for eat in, but their "plates" and such were identical to the carry out plastic containers and woefully tiny tiny inadequate utensils. Smallest fork I've ever seen. Because I was on foot, and had a couple of bags with me, it was going to be difficult to carry the handle-less paper bag my food was wrapped in. For carry out orders *not much bigger than mine,* they have brown bags with flat bottoms and handles. This is essential to keep the dish from tilting and spilling in transit. It was clear I had packages so she should have packed my carry-out appropriately but she didn't. So I asked. She pulled out a flimsy plastic thing. The whole way home I was juggling the thing because the food wouldn't lay flat. Sometimes, in service, it's the seemingly small things. I already don't trust this place. The food? oh that. A lot can be forgiven for good food. (Not that you should get bad service ever....) The krapow was spicy -- a really good spice level. That was pleasing. But as I dipped in to eat it, I realized that about 75-80% of the dish was white rice. It's like I paid $14 for a plastic tub of rice! haha. Oh well. Taste/Quality of Ingredients: 5/5 Quality of ingredients is pretty standard for what you'd expect from a local Thai restaurant - it's very much a lunch spot and not anything particularly fancy. Taste is great though! I think the seasoning is always just right and a great place if you like spicy food. Warning on that though - I think I have pretty good spice tolerance but if you get the max level spice at this place it will make you cry and sweat. Price/Value: 5/5 No complaints here - most lunch specials are around $10-12 and the portion sizes are pretty good. Service/Atmosphere: 4/5 Siam can get quite busy during lunch. You may want to order ahead of time on the phone or online if you're just picking up food otherwise it can take quite a bit to get your food. Despite its unassuming nature, operating out of a small corner location with just a few tables and some counter seating by the window, Siam Bistro is undoubtedly one of the best Thai food spots in Boston. Over the years and now through a pandemic, nothing has changed about this special place. The quality of service is consistently high and its numerous signature dishes are infallibly delicious. The pad Thai there, and specifically the spicy basil pad Thai, is absolutely legendary. Upgrade to crispy chicken for an extra $1 and it's difficult to find a better fast-casual meal anywhere in the downtown area. The only pad Thai dish I'm aware of that even comes close to rivaling Siam Bistro's is the one at Empire in Seaport (and it's twice the price)! For someone with an average appetite, the generous portion sizes will leave you with another leftover serving for later. The restaurant also offers pickup and delivery, which drive the majority of their order volume. If you haven't had the opportunity to try Siam Bistro yet, you're missing out. This was a perfect choice for our last dinner in Boston before leaving for Tampa. We'd seen it a couple of times coming back from our daily tours. It's a short walk from the InterContinental Hotel. It's mostly for take out orders but we decided to dine in. The atmosphere was actually quite nice for such a small restaurant. There were pictures of some of their specialties on the wall, and a refrigerated case with many types of drinks to choose from. I had the Eggplant Delight which came with thinly sliced chicken. It had a very tasty brown sauce and was very good overall. I'd order it again. My husband had the Beef Gra Pow which he asked to be at a very high chili hot spice level. They obliged with a warning which my husband is very familiar with. Apparently some people order it that way and then want to exchange it for something else because it's too hot. I don't know why people do that. One bad apple spoils it for the rest who appreciate Thai hot. Anyway, he was very happy with the spice level but said it could have been hotter. He's used to Thai hot. Either way, he was very happy with the flavor and portion of the dish. It definitely looked very good. My mother had the chicken noodle soup. It was a huge portion with lots of chicken. She couldn't eat it all. It was perfect for her. I also have to say that the service was very good. The young lady who took our order was so nice & friendly. It was a great experience. We wouldn't hesitate to go back if ever in Boston again. Don't pass it up thinking it's just a take out place. This is my go to place when I'm at work. Honestly , I always try and order on a Saturday and it breaks my heart that they aren't open However, I love the mango fried rice; it's so fresh and colorful. The crab ragoon is yummy especially with the pineapple dipping sauce they use. I like to pour it over my rice. The wings are yummy too. I've also had the veggie rolls and the thai basil rice. Siam Bistro is actually a rather cute little place on a corner by the Greenway with two small tables and perhaps 10-12 seats set along a winding counter. My take-out order placed via Foodler was ready when I arrived, so I took it and went. I was provided with plastic fork and knife and napkins, but I had to request the chopsticks. In my plastic take-out container were two large scoops of brown rice (as requested) filling up perhaps half the space. The rest of the space was packed with large chunks of eggplant, slices of white meat chicken, onions, peppers (both red and green), yellow squash, and fresh basil leaves. The sauce was tasty, the chicken a little dry (yet not overly so), and the veggies retained a bite. After consuming just over half, I was well satiated for lunch. But wait... I had ordered the Eggplant Delight $9.95 because I was interested in getting something with eggplant and tofu that wasn't spicy. (Description verbatim from the menu: Sauteed chicken with peppers, onion, yellow bean curd, garlic, basil and eggplants) I guess it was a typo, with "bean curd" mistakenly typed in the place of "squash."
