Came here for quick Thai food and obsession with their crispy chicken pad Thai. Price is reasonable for Charlestown area. Services are not the best and half of their dinning area is closed down. But love their Thai food , will come back to try their sushi next time

Pad Thai Lunch with Chicken

Sweet Rice is my absolute FAVORITE restaurant in Jamaica Plain, having lived in JP for several years. I always get their Pad Thai with Chicken. I honestly haven't eaten a pad thai from another city or state that I've enjoyed as much as Sweet Rice's. I also have to drink a Thai Iced Tea every time I visit. Yum! Sweet Rice is never so busy that you cant get a table quickly, though they can get quite bustling on some evenings. The food comes out quickly, which is great when I arrive feeling ravenous! It's never too loud inside that I can't have a nice conversation someone.

Thai pancake was delicious

The mango rice dessert was delicious. But they didn't wait till dessert time to give it to us. They just kind of threw everything out as it was ready. My favorite was the Thai pancake. It was my first time tasting something like that and it was delicious. Very hot and fresh. The mango duck curry was pretty watery. It didn't feel like they simmered it enough. I like my curry nice and creamy. They also forgot to give us our dragon roll. We had to remind them after eating half of our food. And then they put the order in.

Got takeout from here this past weekend. For appetizers I got a Thai pancake. It came pretty thick which I was not expecting but it tasted really good. It came with a sweet ginger sauce which paired nicely with the umami flavor. I got the drunken noodles for my main. It had a little bit of a kick which was nice and the vegetables were the perfect amount of crunch for texture. The chicken was a little dry and I do wish it had a little bit of sweetness. Overall, it was a good meal

I've done carry out from Sweet Rice twice and had different experiences! The first time was sort of disappointing. The second time we stuck to sushi and miso soup and it was so delicious!! Absolutely loved it. I'll definitely try Sweet Rice again.

Vegetable Spring Rolls

It is very groovy to have this restaurant close to Old Stinky"s plush, but not overly ostentatious condo. It was very hot today so Stinky did not even want to go out, not even for a smoke. So he grabbed his MyPad and ordered up some Thai. Tried the Tropical Noodles and Vegetable Spring Rolls. He probably should not have gotten the white rice since he did not expect the main dish to be so noodle heavy. Oh well. The Spring Rolls are always wicked pissah! So crisp and tasty. The noodles were quite tasty and had Chicken, veggies and other groovy stuff. It had quite a zing to it, which is educational for further orders, since Stinky ticked off only 1 star out of 5 for spiciness. He can only imagine what the 5 is like. At his advanced age and unpredictable Gastric System, it is best not to go spicy for reasons the old dude will not go into at this time, but let's just say he ain't named Stinky for nuthin'. Portion of main dish was really large as usual for this place. He could eat not quite half, so that leaves some left for Stinky's pie hole tomorrow. He has ordered from Sweet Rice many times and it's his fave Thai restaurant. Never disappoints the old dude.

Nice place to stop into for some sushi or Thai food. Their salmon and tuna is very fresh and tasty, so I usually don't stray from having those, but the fried rice and dumplings are great too. They also have different sizes sushi boats which are cool to try! The place itself is usually pretty quiet and they have a cute setup, but the service could be improved. I have found the servers to be a bit cold and short. For takeout - they seem to have a very successful takeout process. Every time I am in I can see bags lined up and ready to go!

Thai was a little diluted, calamari was good!, pad thai taste great, drunken noodle is fair and crispy chicken basil is not that amazing for me. Our server was nice and proactive. Table spacing is wide. Bathroom is clean and smells good. I think people like it here as there are alot of takeout orders waiting. No parking space, so you got to roam around if the street parking is full. Accepts credit/debit. High chair available.

Shrimp Pad C-U Dinner

Location matters a lot!! This Sweet Rice is so much better than the one in JP. Years ago, I probably wouldn't have said that. But, this one is good. The food is always fresh. The service is always prompt but not necessarily friendly. There is a chilling politeness but doesn't distract too much from the experience. The food is hot and tasty.

Pad C-U Dinner

Whether it's delivery or dine-in, I've never had a bad meal from Sweet Rice. Ironically my favorites are the fried tofu and Brussels sprouts from the appetizers, but the red curry (chicken), drunken noodles, and pad c-u are all top choices. I think most things can be made vegetarian, which was great news for me. Table mates at the last dine-in raved over the hamachi collar, crab rangoons, and garlic salmon. Excellent service and a very laid back but modern atmosphere.

Chicken Basil Fried Rice Lunch

This place is very affordable, has good portion sizes, and tasty. I ordered the drunken noodles with vegetables (lunch) and chicken basil fried rice (lunch). The drunken noodles were soo good. The noodles were soft but not falling apart and had absorbed the sauce well. The vegetables were very fresh, still firm, and with so much flavor and color. The sauce was on the sweet side with a bit of spice from time to time. The chicken basil fried rice was spicy. I don't think it was an unbearable spicy but I do think it could've tasted a bit better with less spice so others natural flavors can shine such as the chicken and veggies. I really enjoyed the times when I would find pieces or small chunks of fried (actual marks) rice, it just had a way better taste. Overall, the vegetables were also crunchy and tasty and the chicken was tender. These meals were very simple, but had tons of flavor and were able to fill me up all for $20. I ordered again from this place and they did not disappoint. This time I would give the food 5 stars! I had the chicken typhoon lunch and pad Thai with chicken. The pad Thai is sweet with a nutty flavor, and occasional crunchy texture from the bean sprouts, nuts, and scallions. The chicken typhoon lunch is excellent with an even mix of spicy and sweet. The sauce is a tiny bit thick and really gets absorbed by the chicken and veggies. The veggies are fresh and crunchy and mostly sweet which contribute to balancing out the spicy flavor. Especially for the price, AND flavor of these dishes, you cannot go wrong with getting any of these plates for lunch.

One of my go-to takeout spots in Boston! My food is always fresh and absolutely delicious; the sushi bomb roll happens to be my favorite.

We stopped into Thaitation for lunch between visits to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and the…read moreMuseum of Fine Arts; it was the perfect spot, since it only took us about 5 minutes out of the way. The restaurant was casual, but nice, and had several other tables of diners at that time. The staff was very friendly, as well. The menu had some really interesting dishes that I had not seen elsewhere, but I was lame and ordered my usual - Chicken Pad See Ew. I found the poultry to be very tender, and the included broccoli was fresh and crisp. I should note that the broccoli used was the popular Calabrese kind, while Chinese broccoli cost $1 more. In fact, there were several upcharges scattered around the menu, which was a bit much. Anyway, back to the dish...In addition to the broccoli, carrots were also included, which was not typical for Pad See Ew, but I was fine with it! The sweet soy sauce was a bit thick, like a light gravy, so that was a bit unusual, but the flavor was terrific! I heard reasonably positive things about their Pad Thai and Drunken Noodles as well. Thaitation would be a place I would frequent if I lived in the area.

Noise levels were low for most of the meal, but at one point turned up to blast a rendition of "happy birthday" for another guest - after that, music stayed a bit too loud, which seemed to clash with the otherwise calm ambiance. They didn't ask for our preferred spice levels for the main dishes, and I would've liked everything a little bit spicier. We originally wanted the salmon spring rolls but they were out. We got Tod Mun (fried fish cakes) instead, and they were really tasty. They were smaller but greater in quantity than what I've seen elsewhere, and the sauce was good. I'm not a huge fan of the side salads, though this one surprised me with the spiciness in the dressing. We ordered the mango curry (which comes with chicken, and we added steamed tofu for no charge) and tofu drunken noodles. The noodles were really good, plus looked more appetizing than the similarly-popular pad thai. I was hoping the mango in the curry would be large, beautiful pieces of sweet mango on top, so I was a little disappointed that the small chunks weren't quite as flavorful as I was hoping for. However, I was still quite happy with the dish overall. It also comes with a (pretty small) bowl of rice on the side. The food by itself would be 4 stars for me, except that at the very end of my meal, as I was polishing off the curry, I found a long hair stuck to the bottom of my plate. It didn't match ours, so I know for sure it came from the staff. I know it happens, but the ick factor is hard to get over. Knocked off a star for the unfortunate hair.

I've had a few…read moredifferent things here that hit it out of the park every time, but the biggest reason to keep coming back here is that they have a dish I've never seen at any other Thai places: Ba Mee Song Kruang. I had never heard of this dish before but it quickly became a favorite in my household and we always order at least one order of it. Basically, it is described as "thin egg noodles with Thai style roast pork, fish balls, chinese broccoli, bean sprouts, and topped with crispy wonton." It is AMAZING. On top of what's listed, it comes with ground pork in the noodles and a sweet and savory sauce that perfectly coats the egg noodles. There are 3 different kinds of fish balls - a shrimp one, a whitefish one, and a fried one, as well as peanuts, deliciously juicy roast pork (char sew), and the crispy wontons add that perfect extra texture and crunch. Man, if I could eat this every week I would. Easily a 5/5 - this is the only place I've seen this dish and it is out of this world. The rest of the menu is also great, but you absolutely have to try the Ba Mee Song Kruang if you come here.
