    One of two karaoke rooms

The ambiance here is perfect; they really nailed the vibe for a fun night. The staff are great, too; shout-out to Norrawat in particular for being so friendly. Meanwhile, the flavours of the food were a bit too strong for us, and we're Asian... Chef Nuit's Pad Thai Sen Lak- unlike the one at Pai, this has thinner noodles. They were fine, but the tamarind flavour was really overpowering. Coconut Soup - They left the shrimp tails on (who wants to pick out tails in a hot soup?) and some the leaves were hard to chew. Also, the fish sauce in the soup was quite strong towards the end. Pork Jowl - This was great even without the dipping sauce; no notes. A nice appetizer. For drinks, the Jasmine Spritz and Chaat No 9 were both super sweet; they were better when the ice melted; but it was a bit much. I would be willing to go back again to try other dishes; perhaps tonight was just an off night. One more bonus to lift this review from 3 stars to 4: they have some fun entertainment options: two billiards tables, two karaoke rooms, and lots of board games you can play at your table!

Tha phe tavern is a new restaurant opened by chef nuit & we have been WAITING for this place. At the beginning of the year we stopped by Kiin & they discontinued their brunch services. Our waiter mentioned that this place will open with some of the classics. Once this place opened, we decided to come by and try out the food. We got the pad thai sen lek, boat noodles, pork skewers, and a thai tea slushii. I cannot express how memorable our meal was The seasoning was PERFECT on the pad Thai and the boat noodles. The pad thai sauce light yet pungent, very similar to how kiin did their pad thai before they took it off their menu. The noodles were so chewy and flavorful, I would give the dish a 100/10 if I could!! And i may be biased here, but the noodles had the vermicelli type texture which is my FAVORITE! I put this pad thai over the pad thai at pai. This pad thai sauce was PERFECTLY balanced, not too overwhelmingly salty or sweet, but definitely big tamarind flavor (my preference). In terms of price, i do think it is a bit on the pricier side but honestly, i'll pay it again many times over for this pad thai. The boat noodles are so nostalgic for me, and tha phe tavern team made it SO well. The noodles, the broth, and the accoutrements made the dish complete! I give it a 20/10. The boat noodles are my comfort food but next time i will try something else like the rice bowls just to explore. We came on a friday at 5:45 so it wasn't too busy, but it was getting busy by the time we left (7pm). I will DEFINITELY be back! I wish i could come back every week honestly

There are traditional dishes like the Moo ping ($5 for 2 during happy hour; $9 for 3 normally), bite-sized grilled pork nuggets that are well caramelized with a sweet and savoury sauce. These would be wonderful wrapped in lettuce or ordered with a portion of sticky rice ($6) to create a full meal. Then there are more Westernized items like the grilled pork with steamed bao bun ($7 during happy hour; $8 normally). It's a tad salty and I would have preferred the kitchen to leave off the sauce to allow me to add it myself, given a portion is served with the bun. Still, the tender pork slices, pickled vegetables, and soft bao were delicious. Two of these would make a nice lunch. The Tha Phae fried chicken ($18) was a favourite amongst the table. Marinated with house spices, even by itself there was a savouriness that's enough. But there's also dipping sauces for those who want even more flavour. One thing's for certain, food at Tha Phae is not bland. After all the heavier dishes I'm glad we ordered the spicy glass noodle salad with seafood ($15) to balance it out. With the ability to choose the spiciness level, the 'medium' was more than enough to elicit sting. The vermicelli noodles were tossed in a refreshing soy and lime dressing with a scant couple of shrimp and calamari. While waiting for the food to arrive, complimentary tom yum peanuts were presented - they should be selling these by the bagful! The nuts are fried with chili and Thai basil, so they become wonderfully fragrant are addictively delicious. Surprisingly, it was dead on a Wednesday during their happy hour (on from 4-7pm) despite the well priced drink specials. Tha Phae offers a selection of cocktails for $10. The mamuang slush ($10) was sweet, but the shot of vodka (your choice of alcohol) helped balance it out. I thoroughly tasted the mango and liked the addition of coconut sticky rice horchata that thickened the drink. With the touch of cinnamon this could be considered a dessert.

Came here with friends for QE trivia, which is such a blast on Tuesdays. They have all day happy hour on Tuesday with great drink deals and food as well. I really enjoyed the tamarind maple wings, some of the best wings I've ever had. I tried some of the other wings and they weren't as good imo. The service is pretty good considering how packed it gets even on a weekday. The space is also huge, so good for large parties and quick seating. We won trivia and got to do an hour of karaoke for free, which was so fun. They had a really easy to use karaoke set up and you can order drinks from a tablet and pay directly in the room which was nice. Highly recommend!

Came for happy hour with a friend. We basically ordered everything off their happy hour menu- Thai tea slushie, mamuang slushie- both were delicious and refreshing on a hot day, deep fried fish balls, grilled pork skewers, Tom yum fries, chicken wings, grilled pork belly bao and the Papaya salad. My fav were the drinks and the chicken wings. Perfectly fried and loved the sauce it came with. The rest were only ok, everything just fell short- taste and texture wise. the most disappointing one was the Tom yum fries- i would assume it would have toppings that would make it special but it only had the dipping sauce which was only ok. I guess I just expected more taste wise. The service was great , beautiful aesthetics and good vibes.

Great spot with amazing food and a fun, social vibe. We got a skewer appetizer to start, which was flavorful and tender, and the Pad Thai was one of the best I've had in the city, was saucy, balanced, and delicious, and not too sour! The fried chicken was perfectly crispy and juicy. Unfortunately, the red sangria was a bit sweet for my taste, but the food was excellent overall and made up for it. We also enjoyed the board games and would love to check out karaoke rooms sometime in the future and would love to try their mango sticky rice.

Ok but when this place open? Such a great casual addition to Toronto night life! Claw machines, karaoke, board games and chill vibes. To top it off the food is absolutely delicious! It's from the same chef as Pai so you know the food will be flavourful. The crowd is a little older and laid back. I'll definitely be back!

Really loved the vibe there, relaxed and with friendly servers who were attentive. The food was really good with the Khao Soi being a standout. Got the Chaati No 9 cocktail and it was delicious - creamy and a good mix of flavours.

Thai Chicken Poutine - this place is amazing and a must visit if you are in Toronto. Unassuming, unpretentious, and completely spectacular.

The tapioca dumplings are unlike anything I've tasted before. They serve it with a side of lettuce, mint and peanuts. I liked the dumplings better without the sides they served! The lettuce and other add ons dim the flavors of the dumplings. So I prefer just eating the dumplings straight on. The Messemen curry was so flavorful and the beef was so tender! I'm a big fan. If you're a fan of Thai curries then you'll definitely like this! The Mango purple sticky rice dessert was also really tasty! It had a tasty coconut sorbet and it all went really well together. Service was good, food came out quickly, vibes were good. No complaints here!

Unfortunately, the day took an unexpected turn when I had to go to the hospital, and for a while I thought I wouldn't make it at all. As a testament to both the kindness of my friends and the exceptional staff at Lao Lao, they were able to accommodate us even though I arrived nearly two hours late on a busy Saturday evening. Originally, our table was only reserved until 8:00 p.m.--the exact time I finally arrived. Thankfully, with the help of our incredible server, Savanna N., everything worked out. Her professionalism, warmth, and willingness to help truly made the evening possible. More than anything, I hoped the wait would be worthwhile for my friends, who were visiting for the first time. I'm happy to say they absolutely loved it--especially the outstanding hospitality and customer service. A huge thank you to Savanna and the entire team for making us feel so welcome. As for the food, every dish was delicious. Nothing disappointed. The papaya salad was such a hit that we ordered it twice. The Beef Massaman Curry, Crispy Lao Spiced Chips, Banana Leaf Steamed Fish, and the seasonal Vermicelli Noodle in Chicken Coconut Red Curry were all exceptional. Although it had been about a year since my last visit, I was delighted to see that Lao Lao remains consistently excellent in its food, quality, and service. Bravo!

The service was amazing, we were greeted by the host with a warm welcome, and the waiter was also very kind. It is a true authentic Thai restaurant and the food and flavors are expected and reflect from the culture. Ambience is just like the islands of why the title of the name is there and the decorations are amazing. Let's talk about dessert, the pandan toast was out of this world. Stir fried pineapple curry with coconut curry sticky rice. Service (4.25/5) - this place gets busy but they are fairly well staffed and keep an eye on the tables to make sure people are moving through quickly. Maybe can appear a bit standoffish for that reason but not rude at all. Atmosphere (4.25/5) - it has two levels for dining and also a small patio out front. Not as elaborate or upscale an interior as Pai but functional. Overall (4.4/5) - A definite repeat to try some of the other dishes. Be aware that it can get very busy so book with reservations.

This time we ended up at Khao San Road, which was busy from the get go. We got there a couple minutes before opening at 5pm, and before you knew it, there was a line waiting behind us. Inside was quite spacious between tables, and they were playing throwback tracks. We ordered a mango salad to share, which was okay but not my favourite. It got really sour near the end but next time I would try the papaya salad instead. For my personal main, I got the Pad Thai with no spice. It was still very flavourful and the noodles were cooked perfectly. One thing I appreciate is that the portion size is huge!! For me, this could've easily been 2, if not 3 meals. The Thai iced tea was also really good but on the sweeter side. A good restaurant to try if you're coming from out of town, wouldn't be disappointed.
