We have always wanted to try Thai Ruby, finally after getting a great referral from a friend who has been eating there for years, we tried it. We really enjoyed the food, Tom Ka soup was so good, and the yellow curry was creamy flavorful and just delicious. I would rate it a 5 but I was not a fan of the decor or atmosphere. We ate the first time at this restaurant last night, and I was quite amazed to see the interiors! Its a very cozy atmostphere, decorated with authentic Thailand artifacts. The place is beautiful and one can never guess the interiors from the exterior! To begin with the waitress was very welcoming, and patient. The food was made exactly to our specifications and substitutions requested. The quantity of the food was very good, unlike some thai places which are expensive and dont serve enough. As about the taste, it was delicious. The taste of the curry and noodles is something which will draw us routinely there. We're going to be regulars there, I just know. I'm so happy to have found this place! We stopped in today for a quick bite and discovered that they have great lunch specials. (Entree, soup or salad, and mini egg rolls for around $8.) Since this was our first visit, we ordered more than we needed--just to taste the variety. We started w/ an appetizer sampler plate that had 5 different items on it. I hadn't expected them to all be deep fried (I probably didn't read the menu closely enough) but I would not order that again. They seemed to have stayed in the oil a little too long, and were a bit overdone. Lesson learned. The universe didn't want me to eat that stuff, anyway... We are nuts for Tom Kha soup, and found theirs to be really delish. I could have eaten a whole pot of it, and my hubby had to tell me to stop scraping the bowl since there was nothing left in it. Oops! The salad had a fantastic peanut dressing, and the mini egg rolls were perfectly golden and crispy. The Panang Curry came with a lovely jasmine rice, and was a pretty generous portion. The flavor was great, and I gobbled up every bite. Yummo! My hubby had some kind of duck entree which was good if you like duck--which I don't--but it was tasty for what it was. Here's a fun little tidbit: the lemons on the iced tea glasses were carved into a creative shape, and the carrots on my entree were sculpted into perfect little orange flowers. I loved the attention to detail! We went around 12:30pm, and 3/4 of the tables were taken--a good sign! My best friend, René, and I ate at this restaurant twice while in Flower Mound and loved it both times. The atmosphere is cozy...romantic even... and the waitstaff very courteous. This is a very casual restaurant, inexpensive and it has a bar, although neither of us are more than light drinkers. René had a service dog with him and the manager was friendly and accommodating. He seated us in a far corner away from the rest of the restaurant patrons, which was perfect because that was what we preferred anyway. The food there is nice...light, spicy and delicious. We had the salad rolls both times. I would have enjoyed them more if they had been made of a darker green lettuce, but they were good...tofu in the middle, traditional peanut sauce. I am a vegetarian and asked the waiter to ask the cook to make his choice for me. It was a nice array of spicy sauteed vegetables cooked to perfection and served with various condiments. Quite delicious. René had the Tom Yum (hot coconut) soup both times that we went. We shared it, and it, too, was very delicious. He wanted dessert the first time we went and had the coconut ice cream. He shared it. It was good. We had a lot of food! I wouldn't recommend this restaurant for families with children, although I'm sure they are welcoming toward them. It is a quiet place...sort of a sweet "date night" place where a couple can have an affordable, well-prepared meal in a nice atmosphere. read more

Apparently, they are not interested in new customers. We thought we would try this last night and we waited 20 minutes for someone to take our order. We finally left and went to Fish City. They were more than happy to great and wait on us in a timely manner. I will stick to Baan Thai for my Thai food needs going forward. read more

This would have been a 4 or 5 except for the very deceptive $7 corkage fee. They really push the fact that they are BYOB, a concept which I really like. Unfortunately, when the bill comes you will see the exorbitant fee, which is mentioned nowhere. This review is challenging for me, I have had some good meals here but the last few have not lived up to standard. What put me off the most was the time it took to get our food at lunch. I have had lunch there twice at it took over 45 minutes both times just to get our food. On the positive side I like there Thai Curry but last time I was there I had hot pepper pork and it could not have been more bland and flavorless. read more

My favorite Thai restaurant by far. We've been eating here for years and the food is always consistent and tasty! I love getting everything Thai hot, and the Papaya salad is one of the tastiest items I get anywhere. Last night we ordered the Red Fish with pork and ginger and it was amazing. You get a whole fish prepared with vegetables and of course pork and ginger. It's a whole fish, don't be scared. It's terrific. Give it try, you'll be happy you did. read more

I decided to try a place other than my usual Le Bistro Bangkok. Glad to have given a different place a chance but no need to go back. The prices are higher than most Thai places in the area with smaller portions. I had the Fresh Rolls and could have made better at home. Of all the Thai places I have tried, these are the least flavorful rolls I have ever experienced. The veggies inside were so dry as if they maybe had been sitting out for a while. Pretty much just dry lettuce and carrots. I have very rarely met a Tom Yum soup that was not edible. The chicken tom yum had a layer of oil on the top of the bowl when most places serve this is as a nice clear broth with maybe a bit of oil for flavor. I had to skim the oil off the top of my bowl. The green curry shrimp was not bad but not good either. It was definitely edible but watery and lacking in ingredients. The heat was good and the flavor was good but there is better. My dish had only 4 shrimp in it. In a nutshell... just not worth it with better options around. read more

For those with allergies, do not go here! They will give you a warning that they cook "in and out" of water. Whatever that means. But this is the only Thai place that I have EVER been to that is not capable of giving a guarantee that peanuts won't be in it. In fact! After I gave them explicit instructions of an allergy they went up and down with promises that I didn't have anything to worry about. Three bites into the pad Thai without peanuts..... My mouth and throat started to swell and my allergies are not even severe! Good damn thing I had an Epi pen in hand! The owner called and didn't give two shits. He was more concerned about a corporate approach to protecting his ass.... Great waitress! Horrible owner with a PROUD explanation or guarantee that those with allergies can't be protected or eat at his store. Almost sounds like, "I can't clean my dishes well, sorry" to me. read more

Nice selection, a little small in space.. but the food was great. Lots of character as some reviewers say. Coconut soup is solid, as is panang curry. Also they have frog legs which the kids got a kick out of. Not too kid friendly, but the place is some of the best thai around Flower Mound. With limited choices.. I suggest this place as a safe bet. I think they could improve... with the right leadership. I'd almost give them a 3 star but for now, they'll keep a 4. read more

I ordered red curry here the other night because Noodleswing was closed, and the guy taking my order told me it would be ready in 5 minutes - almost as if someone else had ordered it but never came to pick it up. I love this place. We have been coming here for years and never a bad experience. Everything I've tried is great. It is a very laid back relaxed environment, they will not rush you. The service is a little slow but I think it's part of it's charm- it makes me feel like I can take my time and relax. The decor is great- it's romantic and cozy and very well done. The food was okay. The service however was awful! The servers were doing a fine job but the owner (a younger Thai woman) kept yelling at her staff right behind the entry into the kitchen. We were sitting at a booth that was nearby but she ruined our meal. I will never go back and support a restaurant that is run by someone who obviously has such little regard for her employees. read more

This is one of our favorite family owned Thai restaurants in the area. Because they don't sell alcohol encourage you to BYOB, which we have done for years. We just had a great lunch there today (no wine) and noticed that they now charge a corkage fee of $3 for beer and $7 for wine. Their logic is that it is a service that has a cost so they charge for it. Next time we go out for Thai and want to BYOB we'll be going to one of the other great BYOB family Thai places that are within just a few miles and don't charge us to open and pour our wine or to provide clean wine glasses. Such a shame. It's not about the dollars. It's about how that policy change makes me feel. read more

Ordered Garlic & Black Pepper pork and Pad -Se-Ew noodles. The vegetables that were in the pork dish were not remotely authentic Thai, they did not tasted bad but when looking for Thai food, I was quite disappointed. The veggies were not a good match for the dish or the pork. The pork was also bland despite requesting a spicy level of "hot". The accompanying white rice was decent, it is difficult to get that wrong though. The sauce at the bottom of the dish had a pleasant taste but was not incorporated into the rest of the dish. The Pad-Se-Ew noodles were better, but the seafood my wife ordered with it was not fresh and was slightly rubbery. The fried rice we ordered for my children looked soggy and the Ruby sampler included fried items that were overcooked and dry. Another disappointment was the service, the waiter was nice enough while he was there, but other than taking the order and delivering the food he stayed back in the kitchen talking the rest of the time. I didn't think we would ever get our check but he finally popped out when someone else entered the restaurant. Overall, the food was not terrible, but certainly not Thai food, and not fresh. The service left a lot to be desired. We will not be returning. read more

We are sorry that some people have not been pleased with Thai Ruby because we really love dining there. The service has always been good for us, the owner comes to our table and asks if everything is good, and the servers are attentive. The Tom Ka soup is the best we have had in the metroplex and the yellow and red curry dishes are excellent. If you are looking for something that is really spicy hot, then this may not be the best place for you. But we just want great curry flavors to shine through and Thai Ruby has delivered that every time. Tonight we had yellow curry scallops and shrimp and Two Friends Panang which is red curry shrimp and chicken. Both dishes were excellently prepared with an assortment of fresh veggies in addition to the meat. We enjoy the quiet ambience at Thai Ruby because we can actually have a conversation without screaming over loud music and loud clanging from the kitchen as with other restaurants. The only dish that we have had and would not order again is the whole red snapper. It was tasty but too much work to pull the fish off the bones and it was rather expensive for the amount of meat rendered. But that is not the restaurant's fault. Fresh seafood is not cheap anywhere. We still love Thai Ruby. read more
