I got take out. They were generous with the rice and the staff was nice, and the food was your basic Thai place good food, but honestly the price was too high for basic decent Thai food. Another Thai place In town is just as good but significantly less expensive. For price reason alone I won't be back but if you don't mind the expense the food is good. read more

Ordered to-go from these folks based on the reviews and definitely was let down. Called in to ask for a spicy pad thai, they didn't ask me what level spice so instead they made it blazing without any sweetness to balance it out or limes to cut the spicy with citrus. I also ordered a pad see ew which tasted like a bland soy sauce with store bought egg noodles and overcooked dry chicken with no sweetness. I planned on eating half of each last night then eating half for lunch today, but I'm sure both will sit in my fridge unless I'm starving and just need food before my flight. Side note - I have a higher spicy level tolerance than most and I've had thai all over the US. I even drove 10 minutes out of my way for this place, ugh. read more

I'm vegan and this is one of the only places in town that can modify nearly every dish on their menu to work for me! The staff is friendly and competent and the food is always delicious with good serving sizes and not too expensive. I love this place and will remain a loyal customer! read more

Have been here for lunch twice so far and have really enjoyed it. Service is fast and friendly and the food has been great. I've had a pad Thai and a fried rice. During the week lunch can be busy, but you still get great service. Definitely looking forward to going back to try other things on the menu. read more

Lawrence rejoice! There's no need to visit the angry, attitude filled lady at the Thai restaurant on 6th just for great food. The Thai Place in Shawnee has opened up the Thai Diner on 23rd street. Awesome food and very pleasant people, this place knocks all of the local Thai places off the list. read more

Thai Diner has been a staple take-out spot for us during Covid. It's perfect for getting extras so you have leftovers for when you are just so sick of cooking for yourself read more

We drove all the way from Topeka to try this place after a bad experience at a Thai place there. The location/appearance threw us off a bit. We ordered the fresh rice wraps (these are fresh spring rolls), Thai iced tea, Panang curry (with veggies and tofu), and shrimp pad Thai. My boyfriend loved the fresh springs rolls as well as their home made sweet chili sauce. The peanut sauce was okay - cold and relatively thin for a sauce. I liked their Thai iced tea but I personally like more cream in mine. They also use toasted coconut milk in their tea which gives it a mild coffee taste and I don't like coffee. But my boyfriend also loved their Thai tea, so I think it's a personal preference. We were a bit frustrated with the service at one point as a table of two people, who walked in when we were eating our appetizers, got their food before us. My boyfriend thought his pad Thai was a bit sweet, but once he put lime on it, it cut the acidity. He quite enjoyed the shrimp too. When the server set down my panang curry, she immediately said she was going to bring me more sauce as it was basically just veggies and tofu. I thought this was good of her, but also frustrating it wasn't done correctly. She brought the sauce which made it awesome. The veggie curry is broccoli, cabbage, and carrots. I personally found the carrots to be undercooked. There was a large amount of tofu, which was firm and tasty. I enjoyed the flavors. I ordered mild but it was on the spicier side - so just beware! I wish they would have filled our waters more but the glasses are large. The dessert also looked tempting. Overall, I'm giving it 4 stars because the food was good, considering it's Kansas. read more

Thai Diner - Thai Near Me - Lawrence, Kansas

See all

This place was great! Don't let the exterior fool you-the interior is beautifully decorated, with fresh flowers and manicured houseplants at every corner. The service was very friendly and rather quick, although not alarmingly so (the food was very fresh when it came out). I ordered the Panang curry with shrimp on the recommendation of a friend and wasn't disappointed. Normally I would order a curry in the winter, but this was beautifully light and balanced perfectly between sweetness and spice. A word of caution-when Thai Diner says spicy, they're not joking around! The mild was the perfect heat for me personally, and I'm not sure I could handle much more. I don't dabble with curry often because of food allergies, but when I decide to risk it, Thai Diner is the place for me read more

Probably the best takeout protocols during covid I have seen, and the takeout is still killer. Def get the crab rangoon as well

One is one of the best Thai restaurants in the area. The service is awesome and so is the food. The have a lot of options and offer daily specials. The pad thai and curry dishes are really tasty and it's BYOB if you would like to bring in something to drink. read more

I just discovered this place...great food, wonderful service, and a super clean restaurant. I intend to dine here often when in Lawrence.

One year later I love this wonderful food. The dark soy noodles are chewy and flavorful but lately the TD rice is my go to. Everything is good - go with what you like - no way to go wrong. read more

Good news: the food is wonderful and the prices are reasonable. Most of the wait staff is nice. Bad news: One of the waitresses is extremely rude and in my assessment, HOMOPHOBIC, which is shocking in Lawrence, a town which prides itself on acceptance, friendliness, and good Midwestern values. I came in last week alone for lunch and had a great experience. Came there tonight with my partner. We held hands as we walked through the door and were greeted by the nice waitress I remembered from my first visit, and a stare from the person who would be our waitress now. We sat down. Had to wait a while to be served. When she did arrive she did not say hello and was extremely rude and short. She hardly said a word while taking our orders except to speak angrily at me when I asked a question about the menu. While we were eating, she shot angry looks at us from afar. When she did come by to take our plates, she again looked angry and did not say a word except "uh-huh", even though we thanked her (repeatedly) throughout the dinner. We did not get a thank you as we were getting the bill, just more stares from her. There was a table with four people close to us, and she was extremely friendly with them. The contrast was stark. Nobody deserves to be treated like this while having a dinner in a restaurant. read more

My husband and I were both very happy with our experience here last weekend. They've made a warm, attractive atmosphere despite it being in a strip mall. I had the red curry and husband had massaman curry, both with tofu. The tofu didn't have the best texture-like maybe it had been frozen-but it was still okay, and the overall flavor was absolutely delightful. Saw other reviews that said portions were small, but we thought they were just exactly right, and for a fair price. These were better than any dishes we have had at any thai restaurant in KC and I thought it was as good as dishes we used to eat in LA's Thai Town, or uptown Chicago. read more

Highly recommend the yellow chicken curry, mild if you don't like spice, medium if it doesn't bug you. Always hot, fresh and delicious. The staff treats you well in a timely manner. I have yet to be disappointed by their food! read more

Love the staff, love the food. I followed this family from Tuptim in Topeka to this place now in Lawrence. The crab Rangoon will blow your mind. Like the phad thai, love the curry (panang is my fave). Hit this up if you want some good Lawrence thai food. I've yet to be disappointed. read more

I have been to tuptim thai a few times in Topeka, KS so when yelp sent me an alert about a new thai place in Lawrence, I was down! I read threw some of the reviews and found out it was the former owners of tuptim thai, sweet! I got the penang curry dish with chicken. Loved it! The best Thai food in Lawrence. I'm going to be ordering from here more often. Looking forward to them adding delivery'

The food here is AMAZING. It's my new favorite restaurant. The Pad Thai with tofu is a must have.

My dad's side of the family lives in Kansas, so I visit frequently and this is absolutely the best Asian restaurant I've ever found in this area; I'm originally from Seattle, which has so many great Asian dining options and that's what I'm used to, so when coming to the Midwest with very little options it's a little weird for me. The service was amazing, the food tasted how it does in Seattle, it's clean and modern looking; everything about this place is amazing and if you love Asian food, try this place out!!! read more

I had sweet sausage fried rice for the very first time in my life!!! wow!! I couldn't believe what I was eating, it was so good

I would agree with another review that says the outside appeal is not great - it's very lack luster. However, do NOT let that stop you from trying this great restaurant. The trio platter appetizers were delicious! We had the crab fried rice and the pad thai noodles and they were fantastic! The service was very attentive and nice. read more

Pretty good, decent service, and nice atmosphere. I will be back again. Curry was good, and spice was just tight...not too hot, and not too mild! read more

This is some seriously good Thai food. The only reason I wont give it 5 stars is portion size. It is adequate to fill you up but not an over abudance of food for the price. Definitely a quality over quantity establishment. Oh yea, the service is great too. read more

I travel a lot for work, trying Thai food across the country, and this is the best. My wife had cashew chicken/beef and I had Panang Curry and both were excellent. My wife's fried rice was the best ever. Oh, and the big surprise is the Mango Ice Cream rice dessert- WOW. BYOB, so you can bring your own wine. Highly recommend. read more

Excellent food and service. Chefs come from family that has great reputation for authentic Thai.

This isn't the best Thai food in existence, but it is definitely the best Thai food in Lawrence! I'm pretty picky about Thai food, given that I've eaten Thai in Thailand, not to mention large cities in the US with excellent Thai. So my standards are pretty high. We've never eaten any Thai in Lawrence that impressed us at all, until now. This place is great because they use a lot of fresh vegetables and herbs, just like what you want from a Thai dish. They aren't as reliant on sugar and fat as their competition, and the true Thai flavors shine through as a result. My noodle dish was loaded with Thai basil, crisp tender broccoli, and other good veggies, as well as tender beef and a flavorful sauce. Everyone at the table was happy with what they ordered. The spring roll appetizer was tasty, too. Next time, we'll ask if they use MSG, as we aren't sure about that. We were all very thirsty later that evening. We'll be back! read more

No complaints about this place, it's the best! read more
