Even by Lawrence standards, Thai Diner is mediocre at best. We ordered a Papaya Salad, Panang Curry with Tofu, and Dark Soy Noodle with Tofu (which we assumed was essentially Pad See Ew). First the good: decent prices, and the Panang Curry. The bad: pretty much everything else. The Dark Soy Noodle was incredibly bland, and the noodles were disappointing (which seems to be a problem everywhere in Lawrence). The tofu in both dishes was sad, and the something was off with the Papaya salad (maybe not the right amount of ripeness? bad dressing?) We might be back, but I'm not really looking forward to it. read more

My patience has been rewarded with the opening of Thai Diner. Long a fan of their Thai restaurant in Topeka, I was not disappointed. The Basil Garlic stir fry was amazing with chicken and fragrant Jasmine rice. Go here and don't forget to order the purple ice cream for dessert. YUM. read more

We got there just after rush. Place is small with a slightly modern asian appeal. The waitresses were busy cleaning tables as we came in the door. The place we chose had noticeably been used but they were quick to clean it. The ladies who served everyone just barely were keeping up. Kudos to them for working so hard to keep a good impression. We sat down and we're also quickly attended to. My wife ordered the Garden Vegetable Stir and I, red curry bowl. Before that all came we started with a bowl of soup, a kind of carrot and potato soup with a nice broth laced with cilantro. We also tried rice wraps which peanut sauce. A delicious start although I think the wraps could have come warmer. The curry is a little soupier than what you get at Zen Zero but just as delicious if not more. Prices are very good. Our entree was $8.25 and came with spring rolls. The starter was $4.25 for 6 wraps. Soup was a measly 95 cents for a cup. Everyone was very friendly and came back often enough to see how we were doing. All in all a great experience for a nominal price. I recommend you give it a try. read more

This place is becoming one of my favorite Thai places. I love Thai Siam for take-out and if you have 45 minutes to wait. Thai Diner is better located, better in-restaurant seating, friendlier staffer, and they are BYOB (bring any drink- I've seen many people bring in bottles of wine and they will pour it in glasses for you). If I could eat at only one place in Lawrence, this would be it. Great, healthy, quality food at good prices. I only get the red or green curry with chicken. It's "bring your own bottle" too, which is nice. Wife and I eat here often. Sometimes get takeout, sometimes eat at the restaurant. All is good. read more

Pretty bad food and horrible service. Arrived and waited about 15 minutes to be acknowledged. Watched arriving patrons after me be greeted and served. Which is pretty bad considering the only patron from that area was sitting across from me. Anyway we order and the food arrives. Disgusting. They actually used peanut butter for the spring rolls! Light brown! Ugh! The Tom Yum was a clear and tasteless broth!!! That's not Tom Yum. The curry was equally substandard and they used white breast meat! Dry and stringy. I have been back almost on a weekly basis since I discovered this gem. Consistently good food. I have read reviews panning it and some seem overly picky. Many others are related to a particular waitress who I believe no longer works there. She did have an attitude problem imho. Give it a try!! I want this place to stay in business so I can keep getting GOOD Thai food in Lawrence. I have trouble ordering because I love so many of their dishes. Cannot recommend enough if you like Thai or Asian. Staff and owners are great people. :) read more

Not even remotely like Thai food. Dishes must have been adapted for the palette of Kansas diners who don't know any better. I ordered a salad with pork and bean thread noodles. What I got was a big pile of bean thread noodles over iceberg lettuce with a few tiny pieces of pork on top tossed a dressing that was gelatinous and super sweet (and a little spicy). I had a metallic taste in my mouth for hours afterwards (and they had promised to hold the MGS so it wasn't that, and anyway why would there be MSG in this dish?). Oh yes, there was a lime wedge on the side. My dining companion got Pad Thai which was also overly sweet. Quite overpriced for what we got. Also, the place was terribly noisy. The customer service at pick up was nice but the crab fried rice was soggy and tasted more like fish than crab. Also, the pad Thai was dry.

My husband and I ate here on a Saturday night. Very charming interior and very friendly staff. The food was the best Thai food we have eaten since moving from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Very authenicate and so very tasty. We had red curry with chicken and shrimp--we had medium hotness which had a nice kick. We also had cashew chicken. Super tasty sauce and fresh peppers! The wanton and spring rolls are so good--light, crispy and absolutely mouth watering. We plan to come back once a month for our date night... Oh and that the prices are great!!! Give a local restaurant a chance--you won't regret it. You might even find your next best restaurant!!!! read more

Ordered veggie pad Thai, it had 3 pieces of broccoli and probably 7 cut carrots. The sauce was horrendous and needed A LOT more spice.

my new favorite thai place in lawrence. the panang curry is amazing. just the perfect balance of everything. its so good it gets me to eat egg rolls (by dipping them in the curry.) its so good i order a second bowl of rice every time to pour the remainder of the curry sauce onto so none is wasted. good service too and prices arent too bad read more
