I love this hidden gem for both lunch and dinner! I have eaten there with my mother 3 times and every time nearly every table is filled with happy eaters. Even though it is busy, the food comes out quickly and if very flavorful. The staff is consistent. Same staff for a long time, and they are always smiling. Being a Midwest Thai restaurant, it does seem that the chef holds back on the hot spices quite a bit. I suggest that you order "hot spice" if you want "mildly hot". The house salad dressing is very good. The iced coffee is killer, although I prefer beer. There is a back room for large groups, and there seems to be a following from local corporate offices, with groups of 8-10 people eating lunch there often. Came here for lunch and got the Padthai with chicken and crab fried rice. Got hot and sour soup- more on the sweeter side and crab rangoons which was small and cute no dipping sauce tho. The Padthai had little chicken and very saucy and pretty sweet compared to the ones I've had at other places. The crab fried rice was pretty good! The staff was nice and attentive. Would I come back? I love coming here - solid food and solid pricing. Love how everything tasted, and prices are always reasonable. Service is fast and friendly. Thai Place is my fiancé and I's favorite Thai place in the entire Kansas City area. We have gone here on many special occasions and never needed a reservation because of how spacious the restaurant is. We enjoy the waitress a lot because she is always very kind and helpful. Our favorite dishes are the crab ran goons, chicken or beef Pad Thai, and the Thai Place Catfish with the basil sauce. The fish is so crisp yet still melts in your mouth. We brought a work lunch party of 8 in at Noon and got seated immediately. They have ample seating in two main dining rooms. Our drinks were brought within two minutes which is key! Our apps and then entrees were brought out super fast, 5-10 mins and brought out as they were cooked so steaming hot! The Basil Wings app is crispy deliciousness,, do not skip them! The pineapple ginger rice Thai Hot was amazing. But the star of the show was the Phad Sea Ew and the fresh made wide thin noodles that hold all the heat! 6/8 of us ordered that with various proteins and heat levels and all of us were part of the clean plate club. You also get your choice of soup or house salad, the Hot & Sour soup was good...sweeter when compared to the Chinese version. The servers smartly ask you what heat level you would like, Mild is very tame, Medium is perfectly hot, Hot is a nice step up and Thai Hot is the ultimate step up! Be sure to ask for the sides of various chilis to really step your heat game up! But that did not stop them from providing good service. We had to ask for the dinner menu because the papaya salad isn't on their lunch menu. And that is must whenever I try out a new Thai restaurant. We ordered a few dishes to try. Tiger beef is a bit salty, and I did not like the sauce. But their spicy crab fried rice is delicious. My wife chose this place because she knows I like Thai food. We ordered drinks and crab rangoon appetizer. Rangoon were 8 and very small but no biggie. Wife and friend ordered Pad Thai mild to share, I ordered Pad Thai Gaeng Daeng Thai Hot. It wasn't as spicy as I wanted but understood. Then I found a hair in my food. I didn't say anything because I didn't want to spoil the festive mood. My wife thanked me when I told her later. The service was hurried but inattentive. The decor was ok. They could upgrade the tables and table settings but it's a small place and not really fancy. They have a lot of plaques on the wall about how great they are. We love this place! Always has delicious flavors and many choices and options! The spice levels vary from day to day, probably chef preference, so I always play it safe and order Mild Plus. It can get pretty hot even with a Medium spice level sometimes! I love their pad thai, but I like to order it without vegetables because I don't like the crunch (most of my photos don't have vegetables in them). They never get my order wrong. I also like the thai iced tea, it's very sweet and milky! A nice treat to have with your meal. The curry and soups are also delicious here. I also really enjoy the fried rice options, they're all very flavorful and have good texture. I like the little pieces of egg in them! This is my wife and I's favorite Thai spot in Kansas City. Just full stop, eating in you have prompt, efficient And friendly service, along with some of the best Pad Thai I've ever had! Picking up is super quick and easy and always comes out fresh and you're never waiting too long for your food in the car. To share, we ordered the Pad Kee Mow, Golden Crab Fried Rice, Pad Thai, and Panang Curry. Everything was delicious, and the portions were quite large. My favorites were the fried rice and curry. There was a generous amount of crab meat in the fried rice, so it wasn't mostly rice like it usually is! We were also allowed to bring in cupcakes which was nice. Best Thai place in KC IMHO. Food, Service and Ambiance all hit their mark. Tried Thai food the 1st time in 2005 or so, ordered medium pad thai as if I thought it was like medium Pace Picante sauce. By the end of the meal Milk would have been an Oasis. After that, spicy food was my thing. Luckily you can order Mild/no spice/medium/medium +/hot/Thai Hot - for the Carolina Reaper folks. Pad Thai, Grapow, Ga dang etc are all on the menu, and tasty always. In my experience they take the same care for carry out as dine in, and have never heard of carry out issues. read more
