Popped in for dinner and dinner was better than I was expecting. The dinner bento was very filling, enough for 2 meals, and came with all sorts of yummy goodies. I always love when I get tempura and gyozas along with my entree. Service was friendly and everything was pretty fast. read more

Was saddened to read the 1 star review from a gentleman 9 months ago, since this is one of my fav local restaurants. But, just to be fair, I went to Moriki for lunch today and ordered the katsu chicken, which was one of the dishes with which he found fault. Now, I've never been into their kitchen, but I'd be willing to bet $100 they don't have ranch dressing back there! I ordered the katsu chicken lunch bento, with salad, wontons & California roll. Everything was fresh!! Chicken was almost too hot to eat immediately. Almost. It was topped witb (my guess) drizzles of Kewpie mayonnaise and their savory red sauce. The salad was an iceberg mix topped with shredded carrot and creamy ginger dressing (which I love). We arrived about noon and were likely the first table in the place, but service was fast, friendly and very attentive. As per ambiance, the star this time was the bathroom. I don't always use restaurant bathrooms but I noticed this one-- from the last visit, it seems much cleaner & brighter, likely new paint and lots of scrubbing. A few orangey-red paint marks can be seen from the previous (Chinese buffet) tenant, but it's looking clean and safe in there now. read more

This restaurant is in the same strip mall in East Lawrence as the Set 'em Up Jack's sports bar and the Cascada La Golondrina Mexican Restaurant. Moriki Sushi is a surprise, much better than we had anticipated. The food is excellent, the dining room very nice, and the background music pleasant. The dining room has three booths along the windows and comfortable tables of different size throughout the attractive room. There also is a sushi bar. We sat at a booth, and the service was excellent. They have Sapporo beer, hot sake, and three choices of cold saki, including the excellent Momokawa saki. We got the hot sake with our appetizers and a bottle of Momokawa cold, dry sake with the sushi. We finished only half the bottle and took the rest home. They also have two other smaller bottles of cold sake, one sweet and the other sparkling. We will probably try the sparkling one next time. At present, they do not have regular grape wine, but might in the future. For appetizers, we tried the Hiyayakko tofu, the iron egg, spring rolls, and the smoked salmon sashimi. All four were absolutely excellent! We were very impressed. We also got the miso soup, which was fine but not outstanding. We usually like to add a little hot sauce to miso soup, so we asked for hot sauce. We were brought an excessively large bowl of Sriracha. An upcharge for hot sauce is rather unusual, but we were charged 50 cents for the unnecessarily large bowl of sriracha. Next time we will not ask for hot sauce, since we found the upcharge to be rather annoying, although trivial. For sushi, we got the Las Vegas Roll and the Philadelphia Roll. They were very good, although they have only white sushi rice. We usually prefer brown or black rice, but they do not have them. We would suggest that they make available a regular grape wine (at least a chardonnay white wine) and brown or black rice and drop the upcharge for hot sauce. read more

Revolting. Absolutely awful. Great reviews that seem suspect now. Or maybe the reviews reflect an abject absence of experience with actual Japanese food. I've spent enough time in Japan to develop a liking for Japanese food, over a year, in fact. So I have a good idea of what to expect. We had the California roll and the curry chicken katsu bento box. California roll was not good. Hy Vee sushi is ten times better. The chicken katsu was limp with the breading falling off, covered with RANCH DRESSING!!! Tempura was also a fail, not fully covered. The "tempura" batter would have been fine on French fries but it was not even close to actual tempura. Curry was a tasteless rough potato soup. Salads also had ranch dressing. The only Japanese thing in this restaurant is the Japanese beer. Really awful, I felt like I really needed to vomit after tasting the food here. Not Japanese and not recommended. read more

We were really impressed by the freshness and generous portions of fish in the nigiri. Liked my seaweed salad (although, on the menu it says served in a "syrup"... I don't know about that, but definitely lots of sesame oil). I also had the bagel roll which was good. Terrific service, nice open interior. Can't wait to come back and try more eats. read more

We had a great time at Moriki. We ordered the zen salads which were delicious, the ginger sauce wasn't overpowering the salad. We also had the 0613 & Las Vegas rolls. They were very tasty. They do charge extra for a side of sauce which is listed on their menu so no surprise there. The service was really good too, she was super friendly and even recommended us some things. The restaurant smelled good when we walked in and restrooms were clean. Nice soft music too. I recommend it! read more

we go to moriki as often as we can, and enjoy it every time! last time we visited there was a mixup with the sushi- two of the rolls' toppings were accidentally switched, when we requested a remake of just one of them the chef promptly remade both and visited the table with the fresh rolls and apologized profusely asking if there was anything else he could do. the service is always spectacular, and the food never disappointing. thanks for making lawrence delicious! read more
