SO GOOD!!!!! I am so mad at myself that we waited so long to try this place! Concept 23 is fighting for the #1 sushi spot in LFK. They're in my top 2. I love love love sushi and they had such an incredible fresh and yummy collection to choose from. They also have THE BEST HUSHPUPPIES I've ever had! I didn't think I'd be raving about a simple hush puppy but damn they're fire. The man who I assume is the owner was so incredibly kind. The service was fantastic and the space was so comfortable and decked out in decore. My fiance got a bento box meal and it came with so much food for an amazing price. We've been back multiple times and ordered on DoorDash multiple times. They're so good and such a friendly neighborhood staple. If you haven't visited them please do!!! read more

This place used to be a Pizza Hut. Now it is a Cajun Sushi establishment. Go figure. The building is easy to access and there is plenty of parking. The restaurant is spacious and there is plenty of seating. The menu is varied. There are many things on the menu. It might have been better with less choices. You feel a bit overwhelmed. I don't remember what I ordered but the hush puppies are delicious. I will be back for more of those. The food was tasty and plentiful. This is , however, that charges for everything. Corn and potatoes are extra, and all sorts of items you get extra elsewhere, make you pay here. I need to go back and give this place another try. I don't think one visit is enough to adequately judge. read more

A friend and I have been wanting to get Concept 23 for a while, though their hours have never aligned with our meal time. We finally got to try it last week for lunch and I was very pleased with the service, quality of food and design of the restaurant interior. I chose the pork katsu bento box which was reasonably priced ($12.99 or $13.99) and came with soup and a salad. The bento box was out in less than fifteen minutes and it was a nice helping of food for the price! The quality was good and I will definitely return for another meal here. read more

I'm leaving this review not just because of terrible service, but because what happened afterward crossed a line. Our server was openly hostile from the moment he asked us if we had our drink order ready. On two occasions he asked us something and would walk away if we didn't respond quick enough without making sure we had all ordered what we wanted. He offered no refills, never checked in, dropped to-go boxes and a combined bill while we were still eating, and told us he "couldn't" give separate checks because he was too busy and told us to just have one person pay and have the others pay through Zelle. He said we could wait until he was done serving all of (maybe?)five of the tables in the restaurant and then rushed me when I offered to pay the tab. Completely unprofessional, but unfortunately not the worst part. When we left, the server followed us outside and approached our vehicles in the parking lot, aggressively confronting us about not leaving a tip. He walked right up as we were pulling out, raising his voice and complaining about his $2/hr wage. No customer should ever be approached at their car. That behavior is intimidating, unsafe, and unacceptable in any business. My dashcam recorded the entire interaction. Afterward, I checked their reviews and noticed the "owner" May responding to reviews which happens to be the same name on the receipt he gave us. If the owner is the one chasing customers in the parking lot, that's seriously concerning. For anyone considering eating here, please be aware. This wasn't just bad service, I felt uncomfortable and unsafe. I strongly recommend choosing another restaurant. read more

I rarely write a review about only one dish on a restaurant's menu, but this is an exception to the rule. We returned for a second time to this restaurant. The server recommended the Oven Baked Salmon Steak. She was right. It is really outstanding. The preparation, including a spicy sauce, is unique. I've never had salmon prepared that way before. We were greatly impressed that the chef could do something so exceptional. If you like seafood, I strongly recommend that you try it. The server told us that the new menu in a couple of weeks will include two more seafood dishes with that preparation, including mussels. But they will be appetizers. The Oven Baked Salmon Steak is a main course, including rice and cucumber slices. read more

We loved our first experience at Concept 23! The inside is very nice and well decorated. Service was attentive and kind. She encouraged us to come back and try the seafood boil in which we intend to do. We got 3 appetizers: hush puppies, crab rangoons, and pork gyoza. All very good husband and I rated them all 10/10. We got 3 sushi rolls: jayhawk, caterpillar, and the Q & Q. We gave the rolls an 8/10. They are all wrapped with a seaweed wrap which I wasn't a fan of but otherwise pretty good. Stopped in here on a Sunday evening after having seen it as we drive by here a lot. Very happy we stopped. They have a terrific selection of sushi and rolls!! The crab rangoons are FANTASTIC and worth the trip all by themselves. I'm not a huge sushi fan, but this was very very good and the service was excellent. Our experience was not like the reviews on here. 2 bento boxes (chicken and shrimp). Chicken was really poor quality, small chunks of dark meat in a very watery sauce. I posted an earlier Yelp review. I have been back to this place 3 more times within a week. They have made me a lover of their Crunchy rolls! They are always consistent! I dined in at 11am on a Friday. Loved the wall decor. Miso soup was standard/good. Then I had a bunch of nigiri- the rice kept falling apart onto the table. The ikura (salmon roe) was partially frozen when I bit into it, had to let it thaw, but still at $4 per piece, come on. Eel was a touch dry. Soup and 5 orders of nigiri was $40 before tip. They serve water in single-use plastic cups, which is pretty wasteful. It wasn't bad but I'd likely go elsewhere in Lawrence for sushi next time I'm in town. Their rolls are always super fresh, packed with fish, and they have some really unique ones you won't find anywhere else. I also love that they have other options like seafood boil and fried rice for those who aren't huge sushi fans, so it's a great spot to bring anyone. When there and got two pieces of their famous chocolate cake A little pricey like $19 for two slices but let me tell you it was absolutely delicious. I can't afford to do that often but I will go back again next month and get some. So good! Open until 9 on a Sunday, so we took a chance. So glad we did. Crab Rangoon was great. Very stuffed with cream cheese and crab. Egg rolls were just okay. But the sushi was great. I cannot understand the good ratings of this place. Have you never been to a real sushi place outside Lawrence (or even to one of the other Lawrence places), or a decent US-style fried sushi place. Let's start with the Calamari appetizer -- not real calamari, some type of flavored pressed into onion-ring shape and then with unseasoned breaded coating excuse for Calamari. Then the Miso soup -- dilute sink water. Then the meal. The Spider roll was unfavorable to sweet due to the excessive sauce -- definitely can get better at even Kura. The uncooked rolls were all bland. The sushi rice was overly hard and didn't have the sushi seasonly evenly pressed in. Frankly, the day old Hyvee sushi is just better. The chicken Katsu was made with breast and was hammered hard and I believed fried in the same oil as everything else. Everyone in my party was highly disappointed in their meals -- sushi Station (the cook's former place) was not very good either, but was at least cheaper. read more

Went in with my girlfriend who got food poisoning from her order. While we were in the bathroom a person who I assume was the manager came in, was immediately hostile for no reason, and questioned us about our gender instead of offering any assistance. He then proceeded to refuse any help other than just calling an ambulance in a very threatening and angry tone. We've gone here for the past 4 years with no issues until now but this was absolutely unacceptable and reprehensible behavior.
