This is the second time we have tried Lulus. Both times we thought it would be better based on the reviews. There are a few better places in Town I would say are better. Pork both times tasted "porky" and older. Biria tacos were fatty and meat to cheese ratio was off. read more

We moved here 3 years ago. one of the first things we did was search for good Mexican food. We found a couple we liked, but nothing really hit until we found Lu Lu's a few months later, when they opened. This is the one. The place is small and it's always busy. I even heard that because of the wait to get into Lu Lu's the Chinese restaurant in the same shopping plaza has had an increase in business. read more

Wow excellent delicious food. They serve $5 lime margaritas All day and 7 days a week. They also have margaritas excellent drink menus. They serve free chips and salsa. My wife asked for a taco salad minus the tortilla shell and was given a cabbage shell instead. She said it was the best salad in Lawrence. She eats allot of salads around Lawrence. Found this spot when our first pick was closed. A great find! Food was really good! Interesting- not just standard Mexican food menu- The woman who waited on us was very friendly and answered questions easily. The portions of what we ordered were very generous. This wonderful new Mexican restaurant had only been open for two weeks, when we tried it. The restaurant's opening was so successful that it's small dining room already was too small. It contains four booths, two tables, and one unisex bathroom. We arrived for dinner at 4 pm on a Friday. We chose a booth. By 4:30 pm, all of the booths were taken. By 4:45 pm, no seating was left in the restaurants, and people were waiting for tables. We got the shrimp ceviche and the chili rellenos. Both were excellent. We also got a Martini and a Mexican beer. The entrees come with beans and rice, but you can substitute other sides for them, such as guacamole or avocado slices. The chips are excellent: thick and not greasy. They have vegetarian black beans. Although they have many choices of cocktails and beers, they oddly have no wine. Perhaps that will change in the future. We noticed there seems to be an available, unused store next door in the same strip mall. Hopefully this restaurant will expand into that space, since the current dining room is too small for such an excellent Mexican restaurant. read more

Very good! I've tried a few Mexican places in LFK since moving here, and this is definitely the best so far. Chips and salsa are good, service is great, and food is authentic and delicious. I ordered the quesabirria which I'd never had before, and the little tacos are served with a dip that's similar to au jus. The flan was also awesome. Bf really liked his chicken mole as well. Happy to support a new local business. We will be back before long! read more

Stopped into Lulu's Latin food for lunch not really knowing what to expect. The restaurant is located in a strip center and limited seating, but it's worth a visit! The chips and salsa are amazing. The salsa has a little smokiness to it and the perfect spice for the whole family. I tried the organica margarita and it was so good! For lunch we had the mole lover and the chile relleno. Both dishes were top notch and would highly recommend. If you're in Lawrence make sure this is on your list! read more

My first time at Lulu's Latin Food and it was one of the best meals i've had this month! You walk in thinking you pay at the register and sit for your food but we had great service the whole time. Although the area inside is small it gives a great environment to feel like everyone in the restaurant is experiencing everything together as one. I ordered the Chilaquiles Mexicanos w Carne Asada and it was magnificent. I complimented them with an order of plantains which were sweet and crispy. Also featured in the review is their street tacos with shrimp and shredded chicken complimented with their street corn. If you like corn on the cob, street corn is the way you should go. As our drink we had the berrita trios pitcher. If you're thinking about drinking the pitcher is the best value. Poured 6 total drinks to the brim with a pitcher at the price of $19.99. If you go to 925 Iowa Street, you will find a strip mail with a long row of about 15 stores, but none of the businesses in that long building is A Los Tacos. We drove around that strip mail, but could not find the restaurant. I went into one of the stores (a bakery) in that row and asked, but they had never heard of A Los Tacos. Fortunately I found someone in another restaurant at a different address who was able to provide directions to A Los Tacos. It is not in the 925 building, despite its address. It is on the other side of the Merc supermarket behind the Merc at its northwest corner facing 9th Street. While the Merc has a newly paved parking lot, the parking lot in the obscure location of the restaurant behind the Merc is in bad shape. The restaurant is attached to Empire Bar & Billiards. After finding the strangely located restaurant, we returned the next day to try it. The restaurant contains two small but pleasant dining areas. I was pleased to find that they have nonalcoholic beer, which I think they got from the attached billiards parlor. We ordered the chips and queso appetizer and two entrees: Ceviche Misto Shrimp & Fish along with Camarones a la Diabla OR Cucaracha. All was excellent. The queso was warm and enjoyable. The two entrees were perfectly spiced and very fresh. The shrimp were large and excellent, served in their shells. While we appreciate the authenticity of the preparation, next time we might ask if the chef can remove the shells. Since we are pescatarians, we cannot have rice in this restaurant, since it contains chicken stock. But the beans do not and are very good. We hope this restaurant moves to a less obscure location with a better paved parking lot. Part of the restaurant's business seems to be providing food to Empire Bar & Billiards, which I have heard plans to move to a new location on Sixth Street. If so, hopefully A Los Tacos also will move.

Once we were ready to order, the owner was eager to help us make decisions on different menu items and even father is a sample of one of their flavored iced teas when my mom couldn't decide which drink she wanted. I ended up ordering for the spicy chick on a bubble waffle with fries, and my mom of for a BBQ chicken sandwich with a waffle on the side. The dining room was clean and comfortable, and the temperature was just right (a unicorn when my mom and I are together, as she's always too cold and I'm constantly undecided whether I'm too hot or too cold, especially during the humid weather air conditioning season!) Our food was cooked to order and done pretty quickly. By the time we got home the wake was a little less crispy, but that's to be expected when hot, fresh food is transported in carry out containers. The waffle was still delicious, nonetheless! The chicken portions were enormous and could have easily made two meals. Per my usual M.O. though, I was a glutton and ate the whole thing - haha! The sauce/seasoning wasn't exactly like other Nashville hot chicken I've had, but it still had a great flavor, and the jalapeños gave it an extra kick that pushed it right to the edge of my spiciness threshold. Good thing I had that delicious iced tea to wash it all down! All in all, I had a great experience, and this will definitely be in my Lawrence takeout rotation.
