We ate at noon on 5 - 21. The female server we had was horrible. She brought the wrong meals and wouldn't fix the mistake. She was rude and never checked in on us throughout the meal. My wife could not eat any of her meal because she is vegan and has allergies to dairy. She was served and charged for the wrong meal!!! We felt like we were being discriminated against because are white. The food we did get was greasy and very bland. We give this restaurant an F for service and quality. I asked for the manager and the people said we have no manager. I called them 4 times later on the phone and they hung up on me each time as soon as I asked for the manager or owner. read more

This excellent Mexican restaurant, named after a waterfall in Mexico, might be the best in Lawrence. But it is using oddly old technology. When you are ready to leave, they bring you a handwritten check listing the items you ordered and only one number: the total cost of the bill without any itemization. In addition, the restaurant has no website. You cannot be sure of what is currently on the menu without going to the restaurant. They do have a Facebook page, but it does not provide the restaurant's current menu and can be misleading. For example, some of last year's Facebook entries say that they have introduced some new seafood items, such as Aguachile Verde o Rojo and Ceviche. But when we were there, we were informed that those seafood items are seasonal and only on the menu in the summer. We very much enjoyed our dinner there. The dining room is very attractive and large with comfortable booths and a full bar. We were particularly impressed to find that the bar has Corona Nonalcoholic beer. Most Mexican restaurants in Lawrence do not have any nonalcoholic beers, despite their rapidly increasing popularity. The service was excellent as was the food. Since we are pescatarians, we cannot have Mexican rice, which contains chicken stock. But they were happy to substitute black beans for the rice. We got the Filete De Pescado and the Enchiladas Popeye. The Enchiladas Popeye were a bit heavier on cream sauce than we would have preferred, but otherwise were very good. The Filete De Pesado was impressive including two large, thick filet of fish, which were very tasty. In addition to the salsa provided with the chips, I would recommend ordering one of their excellent hot sauces. We got both the tomatillo hot sauce and the habanero hot sauce. I especially liked the tomatillo hot sauce. As expected, the habanero was very hot, unless mixed with the salsa. The restaurant is next door to Set 'Em Up Jack's and is also in the same strip mall in East Lawrence as Moriki Sushi. Needless to say, both of those restaurants have web sites and provide printed checks. If this restaurant were to do the same, I would most certainly change my rating of this restaurant from 4 star to 5 star. read more

At the beginning of my time there, the atmosphere and service was prompt and welcoming. I was seated immediately along with complementary chips, salsa, and queso. Though the chips and salsa were pleasant, the queso was oddly thick and pulley, that of a slime. I ordered the Chile Colorado (steak dish) that comes with rice, "refried beans" a good number of tortillas. While ordering, my waitress confirmed my order of flour tortillas, though when served, I was given corn. The menu shows that the dish comes with refried beans, which has been misled. This so-called side of bean water was an abomination. i was given a sorry excuse of beans in a thick murky water with a strange milky substrate at the bottom. Lastly, the service was NOT the best. The waitress checked in on us maybe every 15 minutes. When I expressed my displeasure with the food and their mistake, I was met with disrespect. I asked if there was anything that they could do about it (price reduction, ANYTHING), She rudely stared back and forth at my group and said "No!" with a highly offsetting tone. Great food! Piping hot delicious food. The staff is great about keeping your chips and salsa full. We always order some extra habanero sauce to mix in our salsa. It makes it HOT & Delishous. We have tried many of there plate choices, but we really like the fajitas. read more

We got stuck in the hotel down the street during the January ice/snow event, and we're thankful this place was open for business. The staff was friendly and hearing their banter in Spanish was cracking me up - especially about my son cheering for the Broncos and about the boss keeping them at work on the snowy day. (Siempre debes tener cuidado con lo que dices, ya que tus clientes pueden tener talentos ocultos. Nunca juzgues un libro por su portada.) The food was great- the chili colorado was flavorful and the flavor of the chilis really poked through. The menu was varied and full of pan-Mexican and Tex Mex items. A warning for those worried about their figure- the portions are huge- especially with dessert. Overall, the place was clean with nice big TVs for the games. The bass was super loud, and I'm sure the restaurant is filled with energy on a big game day. If we pass through again, we'll stop again for sure! read more

This is one of the top two or three Mexican restaurants in town. Had lunch again there today and the salsa was amazing. Strong tomato flavor with not much cilantro which is how I like it. Had the Enchiladas Supremas and they were fantastic. The cheese enchilada was huge! I've been here 5-6 times and each time is better than the last. Keep the great work! read more

Staff are very good at keeping your chips and drinks full. Food is great every time. The margaritas are spectacular as well.

Food and service was very good However, I had a direct view of the kitchen and witnessed the girl who brings out the chips put a finger in the queso bowl that was about to be delivered to a table. I said something, however all of a sudden no one understood English. read more

Great food! This is hands down our favorite restaurant in town (we're there at least once a week). We've loved everything we've tried on their menu (I'm trying to work my way thru it), but our favorites are tied at their street tacos (both Asada & Lengua) and their Fajitas. I need to mention that their salsa & pico de gallo is so fresh & tasty! OMG - their margaritas (YUMMM). Last but not least, their staff is amazing - always friendly and on point. read more
