Pro tip that I didn't know .. you need a reservation to this place!! This is a cute neighborhood place. When you walk in you feel like home. It reminded me of cheers. When people walked in they people knew them. I decided to get take out and I'm glad I did, even with the 45 min wait. The food was on point. The only thing I would change were the shrimp veggie rolls. Just needed a little bit more shrimp. The pad see ew what do I say ... I was really impressed. This restaurant is in an adorable historic neighboorhood not too far from the capitol. I placed an order for beef pad se ew to-go, and on arrival, I was a little sad I didn't actually dine in - it was such a cute place. My food was exactly as ordered, and there were some dumplings thrown in - which I didn't expect, but absolutely appreciated. Omg what an experience Walk in at 7:15 and the owners graciously inform us that they shut down the dining room at 7 but that carry out is still available until 8. It's middle America, so I'm not super surprised. One of the reasons we jumped off 70 to find dinner was that I knew we'd have trouble getting served if we waited any longer I tell them it's okay, we can eat in the car and we'll head back to Maryland right after They chat amongst themselves and call us back to the register and tell us if we don't mind eating out of the to go boxes, we can use one of the tables. Awesome, we thank them and take our seats. I ordered crispy wonton and y'allllll they were SO good. 6 for $6.50 and worth every penny. They even bring my girlfriend a complimentary salad with fried tofu on it. Next they bring out a dish of tempura green beans with chicken and some chicken gravy that we didn't ask for but appreciated nonetheless. They said they offer it complimentary for people who waited for tables. Finally our entrees my gf got pad see ew and I got pad Thai and they were both SOLID. Plenty of food piping hot, perfect spice level.... Lastly the sticky rice with mixed berries and a coconut cream -- oooof. Chefs kiss. So good. I'll be comparing every thai meal I have in the future to this place. The owners were so amazing, they checked on us consistently and even packed up some extras for our trip. While road-tripping from Denver to Missouri, we searched for vegetarian-friendly spots as soon as we entered Kansas and came across Jong's Thai Kitchen. The stellar reviews drew us in--and we're so glad they did! It was a quick detour off the highway and easy to find, making it a convenient and worthwhile stop. When we arrived, the dining room was reserved for a private party, so takeout was the only option. We were warmly greeted and told there would be up to a one-hour wait. For some, that might be a dealbreaker--but to us, it was just another sign that the food was worth the buzz. We placed our order: * Thai Classic Fried Rice with tofu (no egg) * Pad Thai with tofu (no egg) * Veggie Egg Rolls * Crab Delight We ordered both entrees "hot" and were offered refreshing iced tea while we waited--a thoughtful and much-appreciated gesture on a hot and humid day. The wait ended up being around 45 minutes, but we spent the time playing at the park across the street and hardly noticed. Once we got the call, we grabbed our food and dug in immediately--and WOW. Every dish was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The Thai Fried Rice and Veggie Egg Rolls were standout favorites--absolutely phenomenal. Generous portions, vibrant flavor, and everything cooked perfectly. To top it all off, they included a sweet dessert with a handwritten "thank you for waiting" note, which really made our day. This place is 100% worth the stop--and the wait. If we were local, Jong's would absolutely be part of our regular rotation. I love Thai food and this lunch had the BEST Thai food ever! Very fresh, good portions, friendly owners - small space inside as there are only six tables so make your reservation in advance. The owner and the services are very tuned into their customers and super nice. The food is just as tasty. We had the garlic chicken - some of the best Thai garlic chicken we have had in a long time. Full of flavor!!! We also had the noodles medium heat and so on point suggestion is shrimp. I went here a couple weeks ago during lunch, to give it a try since yelp told me people are talking about this place, it is a cute small building and gives a New York type feel, or at least what I feel New York would be. I ordered the Pad Thai and veggie eggroll. My hubby got the Tom Ka. So the food was not what I expected the pad Thai was a little dry and it was very mild no spice. The eggroll was over cooked and my hubby did not like his Tom Ka as it was too sweet with the coconut milk and he ordered it Thai Hot and it lacked that. The best thing I can say was the friendly cashier which he offered me a Thai tea which I never had before and it was delicious. It is a tea drink made with cinnamon, cardamom, milk and black tea. I was so hooked on that tea and I am now on the search for it lol. Overall. I would return for the customer service. read more

Jong's is such a tease. When they first opened, I was able to go in a few times, talk to the owners, have great food, and even get some custom off-menu dishes. They would bring freebies by the table for me to try. As they got more popular, it got hard to get food from Jong's at all. I'd try to call in an order, only to be told they were no longer accepting orders that evening. Sometimes I'd try to phone in an order and not be able to get my call to connect before giving up entirely after 10 minutes of trying. I would try to dine in, only to be told they weren't accepting any dine in customers that night, or that they were fully booked despite the restaurant being completely empty. It is so hit or miss, that I go to inferior Thai restaurants around Topeka while wishing I was at Jong's. On a recent visit to Topeka, I was really craving Jong's only to discover they'd taken like 6 weeks off for vacation, and closed the restaurant entirely. That is great for them, as I'm sure they could use the break, but a bummer for someone who wants to eat there while visiting Topeka. Their hours are so strange. They are only open for lunch three days a week, and on Friday and Saturday, they are only open 4 hours each day. Also, no dine in on Friday or Saturday. Carryout only. They are then closed Sunday and Monday. I don't understand how they can stay in business with such limited hours and no dine in on the weekend at all. The food here is absolutely phenomenal. Some of the best Thai food I've ever had. While I haven't had Thai food in Thailand, I've eaten Thai all over the US. Jong's is top notch. The prices are insanely low for the quality and amount of food you get as well. I can make two meals out of any of their dishes, and with most entrees being under $15, it is really hard to beat. It is their business, and they can run it as they see fit. It is just frustrating as a customer to crave their amazing garden rolls, sweet chili noodle, or panang curry and have such a hard time getting it. At some point, craving or not, the limited hours and difficulty placing a order even when they are open makes them playing hard to get not worth the effort. If this was any other place, the issues I've described above would limit them to 2 or 3-stars at best. The food here is so amazing, they get 4-stars even with all the difficulties I've had getting any of their food. read more

Jong's Thai Kitchen is a tiny little Thai restaurant hidden on a neighborhood street. A small restaurant that delivered big flavors. We ordered an assortment of dishes and even received a few that we didn't order. When selecting our appetizers I had mentioned I liked potstickers but didn't order them. They were still brought to our table with the message that she (the owner) saying she wanted me to have the chance to try them. Also during the meal she brought over a plate of fried green beans. Didn't even see them on the menu but glad we got a chance to try them. Every dish I tasted was excellent. Delicious food, good service, and amazing hospitality. Food - 4 Service - 5 Value - 5 I came here on a recent trip through Topeka and this made for a nice meal at the end of a long day. I called ahead and they said it might be up to an hour for my order and I said that would be fine. It turned out that they were able to get to my order in about half that time, which was a nice surprise -- but not the last surprise for me. When I went to pickup my order, they apologized for the long wait and said they included some Crab Delight and Crispy Potstickers (probably 2 pieces of each) for my wait time. Wonderful!! I had read the reviews and I thought nothing could be that good. I was wrong. I had the Orange Chicken, the Noodle soup and the sweet sticky rice. I had ordered conservatively but I can't wait to go back again. The people were so friendly. I do want to warn you, if you think you can just walk in and get something quick that would be a big no. Ordered this for takeout after work. Had the shrimp peanut Pad Thai and the crab Rangoons. The food was cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. Hands down the crab Rangoon's were some of the best I have ever had. They were filled with the right amount of stuffing and not a ton of extra wrap. Fried perfectly. The dipping sauce was just the way I like it too. Not too runny, more on the thicker side and delicious flavor. The Pad Thai was ordered with shrimp and extra green onions. They delivered. The ingredients were evenly proportioned for the dish. Again mouth water flavors. The restaurant was only doing take out that night because they had a private party coming. This was my first time here and what a charming little hole in the wall. Very intimate and clean. This would be a great date option. The service was warm, welcoming, appreciative and friendly. As a reluctant (disgruntled) vegan I thought that the dishes I love at Jong's Thai Kitchen would not be nearly as tasty as I embraced a new plant-based eating lifestyle. However, that is not at all what I found when I ordered the Pad Thai, the Garlic Tofu (previously Garlic Chicken) and the spring rolls with tofu instead of chicken or pork. The Garlic Tofu dish was a definite hit with my wife and my Pad Thai with Tofu was amazing! I explained my recent eating/diet to Derrick on the phone as I was ordering takeout and Jong's was glad to work with the new vegan eating plan. If you have chosen the vegan lifestyle (I didn't - it was doctor prescribed) then you can enjoy eating out or getting takeout at Jong's! Per my previous review I do honestly believe that they are the best Thai restaurant in all of Topeka. I appreciate their flexibility and their ability to accommodate our new eating plan. read more
