Very obvious it is a family business it was a pretty typical buffet with the typical offerings one unique thing was that they had a chocolate fountain that flowed with chocolate that you could top on anything you wanted and you could spare a marshmallow and smother it in chocolate too. Good variety, good flavors, not everything tastes the same as can happen in other similar buffets. Offerings were kept fresh, full & hot for the most part. I'm a french fry connoisseur, so if there are some on the buffet, even though they aren't in keeping with the cuisine, I will take 2-3. Those were not warm. Attentive wait staff. I love this place. I've been coming here since 1995. I was a big fan of the buffet. I moved away for about 15-20 years but always came here when visiting relatives. I moved back in 2016. Now I've gone on to become a mostly a take-out-customer. No matter what the service is always great! Except ONE Little thing.., My orders of steamed wontons made extra extra extra spicy are the best! My king pao chicken with no peanuts and no water chestnuts made extra, extra, extra spicy are always spot on delicious! I normally get this once a week...and if the family is eating I'll add on a couple of main dishes with the order as well as the chicken on a stick. I'd like to order it online but the "service" company they use is so difficult to use that I've been so frustrated at checkout that I just get so frustrated that I more often than not end up deciding to just do without. I can only imagine HOW MANY other patrons have had the same issue. I can't imagine how many other possible customers orders are lost because of this. I mean, I'm embarrassed to admit it but my orders alone add up to $320.00 in a month. If they fixed that problem, they'd likely make another $150,000.00 in annual sales if not more. What. A. We were cruising Wanamaker for something to eat and didn't really want a chain restaurant. Finally we gave up and asked Google to find us a buffet and this is what came up. It's a little bit off of Wanamaker, but not too bad. We beat the lunch crowd on Friday. It's not a gigantic buffet, but I felt like they had a good selection without being overwhelming. They have a good amount of seating in two dining areas. The food was all good. I love China Pavilion. Why? They've got a great buffet and you can also go through the buffet for carry out. They give you a box and you can stuff it as full as you like--as long as the lid closes. Actually, one of the most important things to me is that it is CLEAN. That is probably my highest priority in a restaurant. They have a good selection and if something that you like is getting empty, they will go make more. It may take a few minutes but it's worth the wait. It's not fancy, but it's one of my favorites. read more

There's definitely something for everyone at this buffet. There is sushi to Thai chicken to coconut shrimp. There's nothing you really can't find with an Asian flair. Although the tables and chairs are dated, it definitely adds to a cozy atmosphere. Not too crowded but enough to know it's a good place to eat. if you have to have a walking device such as a cane or a walker it is not going to be easy to maneuver between the tables and it'll be hard to get around the buffet and I would not suggest bringing a wheelchair in here. my husband has an artificial leg and it was definitely not very accommodating for the handicap on the North side. The South side will have more access for handicapped and it also adds for a quieter experience. read more

Preface....It's hard to get 5 stars as there is always room for improvement. I was in town for 4 days and ordered delivery from China Pavilion and was so very pleasantly surprised. Finding a good chinese restaurant is so hard so expectations are always low. I ordered the crab rangoon, teriyaki beef sticks and orange chicken. The crab rangoon was just fair but the beef sticks was like candy. Tender and just wonderful. I then went to the orange chicken and it was also very good. It had a good level of heat and was both white and dark meat. Nice crispy coatings and just a bit of vegetables. I hate when they throw in tons of veggies and no chicken. Really good.!!!! read more

This is a Chinese Buffet. Unlike a lot of them in the area, this one has been around a long time (I think close to 15 years). However, the food is still decent here and they have a decent lunchtime crowd. Getting a spot isn't hard if you avoid the prime lunchtime rush. I end up coming here once every 6 months or so. The decor looks a little worn out and has been around a long time. Of course if the decoration inside is a major issue with you, you might want to avoid Chinese Buffets altogether. The food here is good and there is a small rotation of new items that appear here. Items that are marked hot and spicy aren't that hot or spicy though. Only complaint about the food is there could be a few more vegetable items or items that don't have meat in them. Price (I believe) is $7 per person for lunch and $9 per person for dinner. Allow me to preface this review, my gluttonous expectations were lowered because well, we were in Topeka. The inside of China Pavillion left much to be desired, but the food was very good! They didn't have a lavish spread, but it was a decent size and even more fair was the price. They had soft serve, my new found favorite peanut butter chicken, and refills were ample. No complaints aside from the aesthetic. But really, the best food is found in the most hole in the wall places. read more

We've ordered from several different places in town and have been consistently disappointed, that is why we are so glad we'd found China Pavilion. Visited china pavilion in topeka, at fairlawn & 17th on 5/2/2019 between 12:00-1:00 pm. This place has been around at the same place for more than 3 decades. Lot of parking spaces in front of the restaurant. I quit going there after they started serving frog legs, next to the bin of green beans. Now there are no frog legs. one beef dish. There is separate counter for sushi. There are multiple counters for food decently arranged. There is salad bar separately. Lots of chicken dishes, shrimp, fried rice, mixed vegetables, green beans, french fries, hot & sour soup, egg drop soup etc. There is separate place for ice cream. The place does have lot of chinese appearing as well as mexican appearing ladies working in the place, friendly and keep dishes coming in constantly. The customer eating area is large in two separate rooms with food counters placed in between. There are about 30+ customers, the most i have ever seen here. There are lot of selections with food, good tasting. The price for lunch buffet is $8 with tax included. The price is just right. Taking everything into consideration, i will give this place, a rating of 4*. read more
