This is a gem in Topeka. Passing by this town and came in for a dinner and turn out it has a buffet for a great price! The food spread is big and even have some Sushi! Dessert is also available. Consistently great Chinese buffet, for as long as I can remember. Standard selection, but everything is almost always fresh and delicious. Their crab rangoons are fantastic and I particularly love the honey chicken and rice noodles. Service is solid during every visit I've made in the last 15 years. A super sweet (and cute) guy works here all the time and is always professional and polite. I think I come here to see his smiling face sometimes. I have ate here before and while it was no 5 star, I would have comfortably rated it a 3.5-4. As long as you order the right thing. However today I was more disappointed than I have ever been to date. I utilized their online ordering to preorder some food to be delivered at 11:45am. Keep in mind that the system generated this time. So I am waiting for my order, and it is now after 12pm. Still no food. I wait until 12:15 and call the restaurant to ask about my delivery. I get a quick response that "I am sorry we were busy and the driver has left to bring your food a few minutes ago." So ok, I was a little irritated because they didn't even attempt to notify me that it would be late. I would have just adjusted for that. But I had to find out myself! The restaurant is .9 miles from where I am staying so if the driver left a few minutes prior that means he should be here any moment right? Wrong! I waited until 12:55pm. Still nothing and still no word from the restaurant. So yet again I call and the same young gentleman answers. I ask him yet again where my order is. He begins to tell me a story about how the online ordering doesn't always schedule things right and had I called them instead there would be no problem. Well I beg to differ! I actually was not able to call them as I was wrapping up a meeting. So, in all this fiasco, I tell them forget my order because it still hasn't even been made. They decide that to rectify the situation, the next time I order, they will give me a free order of egg rolls or crab rangoon! Wow what a deal that is but now I just don't even feel up to it. After that they offered the next time I order they will give me a free lunch plate. I felt he lack of communication and the willingness to do what can make the customer happy. read more

The buffet has been fantastic the last few times we've visited. The problem is the takeout, it's usually fine, and that's why I'm giving three stars, but this time it was atrocious! The chicken had to have been the most overcooked thing I've ever had at a restaurant, and the sauce was extremely thick sickeningly sweet, and the pieces clumped together. I liked my appetizer as usual, but the rice soaked up a lot of the sauce so I had to pick around it to avoid the sauce flavored rice. Maybe separate containers for the rice would be good or dividers in the containers. I plan on coming back for other things, but I doubt I will get anything with chicken again unless it's on the buffet and I can see it or taste it and get something else if I don't like it. read more

I thought the food was very good. However, I got an order to go from the buffet. The price for the buffet is the same if you eat there or to go. The "to go" box is small. So I asked for a cup for the sweet & sour sauce for my chicken. They gave me a cup the size of a pill cup. So, I had to put the sauce on the chicken there, which got all over everything. Then, I asked for a soup cup, they said soup was $2 Extra TO GO, Huh? Ok, forget that. I asked for just a small cup to put 3 of their petite cakes in. They said "No, you put them on top of your food in container, AND, you HAVE TO close the lid"! Ridiculous, all smashed huh? I put them in a napkin but by time I got to my car, the icing was off and all over the napkin. SO, if you go there, EAT THERE. If you get it to go, just know you're paying the same price BUT getting much less food! read more

China Pavilion is my favorite Chinese restaurant in Topeka, Kansas. Their location in the shopping center at 17th and Fairlawn Ave is very convenient and a good neighborhood. Their buffet is wonderful and it is kept fresh through the day. I really enjoy their vegetarian dishes and they have great cashew chicken, almond chicken, and beef and broccoli. They must sample what they put on their salad bar as the fruit always tastes good. read more

This is my second time coming to china pavilion and now they are giving me and my gf watered down soda and they are telling us we're we have to seat and we never had a problem being told we're to sit if I come back and they tell me that I have to sit in a spot they pick then I will be turning them in to the health department because there food is always cold read more

The China Pavilion was delicious. We are from out of town and wanting Chinese food. This restaurant had a good Yelp rating, so we decided to try it. We tried a little bit of almost everything in the buffet line and we didn't find anything that was distrustful. And, the price was reasonable. The employees were prompt and courteous. By default, this is the best Chinese buffet in town. Reasonably priced with a decent variety of foods. I still think there are better Chinese food spots in town, but if you're wanting to gorge at a buffet specifically, this is the spot to do so.
