In Topeka, this Joy Wok I am rating 4.5 stars. Lunch price is great for the food offered. Dinner is pricey. Really enjoyed the verity of food. Everything I ate was delicious. Desserts were good and I had to sample everything offered. Yum, so leave room for dessert. No problem with a crowded room because the restaurant is designed to handle lots of people. I had no problem getting my food buffet style. I have eaten here several times now, 2026, and never had a not so good experience. One last thing to mention, save room for dessert. It is tucked away in the far South front corner of the restaurant and you don't want to miss it. read more

I've had an amazing experience the past two times I've been, love *most of the sushi and both times I've gotten the hibachi grill both times and it was amazing! I waited to post a review but after 5 trips. 2 good. 1 avg. 1 bad. 1 horrid. I figure I can say I gave them a chance. Love the one in Overland Park. Had high hopes. The first two trips weren't great but I saw possibility. I loved the variety even if the flavor was a little off. The time before this was enough my gf swears she will never go back. Despite having 2 hours before closing there was almost no food on the buffet. What was there the hostess was eating. I decided to give it one last try. I quite enjoyed the food when I attended this all you can eat buffet. It was an asian buffet so you have a certain mentality when eating at one of these. But it surprised me with the quality of food, variety of options, temperature of the food and the service staff. I believe I was checked on by at least 3 different employees at different times which made me feel welcomed. The restaurant was quiet enough to enjoy dinner without being overwhelmed by sounds of a buffet. I would return and recommend to others. read more

First time here and it was busy for a Saturday night and they were handling it great. It is a buffet so makes the decision harder. They did have crab legs on the buffet and they were going like hot cakes. I stayed with the typical jalapeno chicken and fried rice plus many of the other including chicken on a stick. The layout is great a couple party rooms and a few TVs for us who eat alone. Very relaxing even with the noise as it's very family oriented. read more

This was my second visit, and unfortunately, it will also be my last. The food is about 2.5-3 stars, but the service is 1 star at best. More importantly, I observed a food-handling practice that raised a serious food-safety concern. If you order Pho or Hibachi Grill, I strongly recommend insisting that the cooked food be served in a clean, separate bowl or plate. During my visit, the bowl I had used for the uncooked ingredients was simply rinsed and was going to be reused for the cooked food. Using a container that has held raw ingredients for ready-to-eat cooked food without proper washing and sanitizing creates an unnecessary risk of cross-contamination. Regardless of the quality of the food, proper food-safety practices should never be compromised. read more

First try at this location. Initial impressions, lots of room with plenty of tables. Service is quick and attentive. Large tv's with sports on is a plus. Food was plentiful, hot, and tasted good. Lots of different selections. From sushi, to hibachi, to the usual buffet fare, and even food for the kiddos. The only recommendations I would have is better labeling of the sushi. I am allergic to shellfish and avocado and not knowing what is in the sushi I had to stay away. But for just opening this place meets all expectations. read more

I went back to Joy Wok after the first WEEKEND (crab legs and steak specials) at a higher price visit which was great. The second time, the people I took laughed at me because my little finger was bigger than the crab legs. The steak was tough. I suppose that the first openings they had bigger Crab Legs and then they got smaller and cheaper after the word got out on the quality. I have not be back since, so the stars above are an average of the two visits. I will wait about a month and give them another "testing". I am sorry if you felt misled by my first posting. Genuinely the happiest restaurants I've been in. After passing and hearing of this place, I finally checked it out. To my surprise, I find a huge restaurant, along with a vast variety of foods. The only comparable thing I can think of is a K-pop store. The atmosphere was so uplifting, and the food was amazing. The place was spotless, it had a modernized atmosphere with a very clean look. I had heard good things about Joy Wok. I ordered on-line. My order was shunted to a Kansas City, KS store....which apparently does not exist....Overland Park? Anyway, almost $70 worth of food gone. I repeated the order for the Topeka location. Now we're at around $130 for my daughter's birthday dinner. The food was overcooked and very dry and tough. I ordered the Family Meal for 3.....could not tell one order from the other. Indiscriminate sauces, one very spicy. The butterfly shrimp was NOT butterfly....it was clumps of shrimp in very heavy coating and fried. Looked just like the chicken and the pork that came with the other meals. This package came with 3 Bobo (?) boxes....turns out that their version of Shrimp Tempura is what the rest of us call Butterfly fried shrimp. The Crab Rangoon, which I usually dearly love, was simply cream cheese with fish oil wrapped in a wonton wrapper. Another yucky inedible. I didn't expect this result. Not ONE item was truly enjoyable. And there was a LOT of food....the cat nibbled at a chicken wing. Even those were tough. Some kind of beef or pork rib that was too dry and tough to eat. Egg rolls that looked like they were cooked two days ago and had a bad taste. If this is truly representative of Joy Wok....and not just some accident, this restaurant, or buffet or whatever is not going to make it. The web site threw me from Topeka to Kansas City, Ks and then to Kansas City, MO. I had to apologize to my daughter for the disgusting meal and am going to make it up with breakfast tomorrow. With MY cooking. Can't even begin to tell you how disappointed I am and in total disbelief that two friends told me how nice this place is. Do NOT waste your money or your time on Joy Wok. The Chinese restaurant in the local strip mall is thousands better and much cheaper!!! Just for the record, I have NEVER given such a negative review to any eatery. Went for the first time this evening and horribly experience. 4 servers standing around talking or using their cell phones, leaving drinks empty. Food was lukewarm at best and what we ate tasted worse than other Chinese in Topeka for 1/2 the price. The seafood items were horribly overcooked to the point of being rubbery. When your fried appetizers taste like cheap frozen grocery store items fried in dirty old oil, it's a bad sign. Even the fried rice was bland and not worth it. We barely had 1/2 a plate between two of us, paid the $64, and left as fast as we could. Cannot recommend this location...you'd be better served at any of the other Chinese buffets in town for 1/2 the cost for better quality food or service. We dined at Joy Wok during its second week of opening. Joy Wok has a large, brightly lighted dining room with both large tables and plenty of booths. The restrooms are a little hike away from the dining room, so prepare in advance if you have to "go." The buffet is huge with many choices including fried chicken strips and pizza. I sampled many of the asian offerings on the buffet. I was disappointed that the buffet food temperature was only warm, barely above room temperature, not hot. The food is tasty as to be expected. Not much different than Panda Kitchen which recently closed, or Lings Cafe. After we were seated, water was brought to our table, but no napkins or utensils. I saw some an a neighboring table, so snatched them for us. There were a lot of young servers just standing around, but no one offered to get anything for us. Minimal eye contact. We were there between 5pm and 6pm on a Thursday evening. Since its a new food place in Topeka, I expected it to be crowded. There were a few more people arriving as we left, but probably no more than 15 people there. I think if you want hot food, you should order from the grill. We will go back for a second chance, but will choose a different time, hoping to get hotter buffet food. read more

Hibachi was good, sushi was good, squid was overcooked and way too rubbery to eat. The crab legs were way too salty and the rest of the food was a hit or miss with it either being good or way too salty. The place was weirdly lit. It's way too bright in there like a hospital. If it was just a bit dimmer with more ambient lighting it'd feel like a fancy dinner but it doesn't. The service was good we had a nice older lady as our waitress and she was very kind, but for the price we paid I don't think I can say it was worth it. read more

Loved the variety. You can eat as healthy as you would like, and still have access to your less healthy favorites, such as crab raccoon, egg rolls, steamed buns, ice cream, and sweet-sauce chicken. I like the hibachi grill offering and the pho station. Also love having easy access to the soup and sushi stations. Restaurant is clean and well lit. The staff is helpful and available. Hubby had just had a surgery and did not feel like sitting in a restaurant so I got food to go. all the way home we kept smelling something but did not know what it was. When we got home I opened the box and the smell of some type of chemical was overwhelming, I went ahead and warmed it up and took one bite of the chicken, it tasted just like it smelled. Food was horrible. Everything had sugar in the sauce. It was so sweet. The roast beef would've been really good, but it was too salty so salty sushi was empty. All the time watermelon was empty. Pineapple was empty. They couldn't keep them filled. This is a buffet and yet they couldn't keep the food filled at all the dumplings were mushy. You could tell they weren't pan fried. They were probably boiled The desserts little to none barely had any desserts. What a disappointment and they called the buffet. Thought it would be nice to try something new and the place looked really nice on the inside. The food was really great and the workers were very nice and helpful. However, halfway through dinner these two people sit down next to us. I turn my head to take a bite of something and accidentally looked that way and the lady sitting there started going off. She started making faces at me and loudly calling me a bitch to her boyfriend, while I was simply just trying to eat. 815pm. Signs and website says "close at 930pm." Walked inside (2/12), greeted by a young girl who was busy talking on her cellphone, tossed a ticket on our table, didn't say a word to us. It took over 15 minutes for someone to notice we hadn't been waited on for drinks. Then we went up to the buffet. If I could give zero stars for this review, I would. Abysmal. Empty pans, or almost empty pans everywhere I turned, and no one was making any effort to fill them. I wandered over to the Hibachi. Steak pan was completely empty. When I finally got the attention of the guy behind the counter to ask if there was more steak, he said "no, we're out." I picked out what I could, of what selection there was. He was cooking half-heartedly, as if it was a chore. I was angry. Other servers and staff were wandering around. The young girl who seated us was now sitting at a back table with her friends, doing nothing but visiting. Customers continued to come in, were seated, and had the same look of dismay when they approached the buffet: "Why aren't they putting more food out?" Getting refills on our drinks was a foregone conclusion. My boyfriend had to go tell our server he needed a refill. Needless to say, not sure I will be back anytime soon. We left our table and went to the front counter to pay, because our server and the rest of the staff was too busy shutting down for the evening and it wasn't close to closing time. Saw your staff helping themselves to what little food was left on the buffet, while paying customers were still in the restaurant! A $40 bill for two people, no food on the buffet (we should have paid half price), no customer service, your cashiers playing around like teenage girls, the server not noticing we had left our table until we were at the front counter ready to pay, then he was in a BIG hurry to provide our check. The girls at the front were too busy giggling and playing around like teenagers in high school to have any thought or concern for paying customers. The whole experience was awful. Not sure if we will be back. To whomever owns this establishment: I would suggest some closer supervision of your employees in the evening, and maybe some re-training of proper customer service, especially the young ladies who greet customers at the entrance. They dress like they were going clubbing, not working in a restaurant! Talking on a personal cellphone while working? Not acceptable. Unprofessional and discourteous.
