Ordering a steak meal to-go is a novel concept that I remembered was unique to West Texas when I was working on my doctorate in Lubbock. Many years later, when I moved to Midland, I noticed that the concept is still pretty much alive at Texas Steak Express. I have seen flyers for Texas Steak Express sent to me in the mail regularly. So I decided to order from them when I was busy with work for pick up and dining in my vehicle during lunch hour. The ordering process is online and the website is easy to navigate. I have ordered a sirloin lunch and beef tips lunch. After entering payment information, I get a confirmation e-mail stating my order would be ready in 20 minutes. I arrive at the restaurant 20 minutes later. The facility appears to have been a Pizza Inn at an earlier point in its life, but is kept up-to-date and well maintained. There is a drive thru for pick-up orders only, but I decided to go inside. The first time when I ordered the sirloin lunch, the meal was not ready for pickup, and they gave me a complimentary iced tea for waiting, while the second time when I ordered the beef tips my meal was ready for pick up when I arrived. Both are well packaged in styrofoam containers, and comes with plastic utensils. I parked in the shopping center across the street from Texas Steak Express and dined in my vehicle. The steaks are hot and well packaged in foil, as well as the baked potato. There is a roll and a side salad. While tasty, both meals can be described as no-frills. The meat is flavorful, but not as tender as one would expect from a sit-down restaurant. The plastic utensils are flimsy and I ended up pulling out a pocket knife to cut the steak. Overall, these are not fancy steak dinners but certainly hit the spot during busy times in my schedule. Overall, I think Texas Steak Express is a wonderful concept and fits a culinary niche very well. I will certainly order from them again when I am busy with work and would like to have a quick and hearty meal! read more

The idea of delivery steak dinners seems... odd. I mean, having a cooked steak sit in a container for an unknown period of time doesn't sound appetizing. I mean, how would you expect it to be cooked to the proper temp or even still warm if it was delivered??? Honestly, I wasn't too hopeful after reading so many negative reviews online. In addition, I didn't think the website photos looked super appealing. Anyways... We ordered Steak Express as a group with our church. From my understanding, the church orders from this place frequently. Despite us not paying for the meal, both my husband and I would have felt "bad" ordering say, the ribeye because it seemed expensive. Small Ribeyes $14.99- large $22.99. The steaks do come with a small salad and a potato (loaded baked potato add $1.79). Instead, I got a Philly for $9.99. It came with a bag of chips. My husband got a burger, also with chips. Since we don't eat bread (or potatoes so no loaded potatoes or chips for us), we both got ours bunless. Upon opening my container, I thought the Philly portion size wasn't the greatest BUT that was probably a good thing because it was so dang salty, I could barely eat it. The other guy in our group who got a Philly said it was too salty as well. My husband said his burger was good. My husband got a side of broccoli since he doesn't eat chips for an extra $2.49. Some of our others in our group had the steak and some got salads... now the salads looks really good! I would never have thought that a STEAK place would have a decent salad but they were HUGE and were only $7.99!!! I totally wished I had ordered one. The only reason I didn't was because the photos of salads on the website looked awful. If we ever get something from here, it will definitely be a salad. All in all, I wouldn't actively seek out this place. Personally, I like to grill my own steaks but if I wanted someone else to do it, I would probably call a steak house (Logan's, Saltgrass, Texas Roadhouse, etc) and order for pickup which is usually 20 minutes. The brush that is on the floor is the brush they scrub the grill with after every row of Patties. The tongs are in the grill grease trap and I watched him bang them on the trash can rim to get the crumbs off then right back to the grease trap. I made a comment about the brush on the floor all the cashier said was "oh wow I never noticed that" the kitchen heard what I said am no one fixed the issue. 1st they told me it would be in hour and a 1/2 wait then they show up an hour and 55 minutes later. I order a philly cheese steak sandwich the sandwich was all soggy and cold. Full of grease. Mabe I really should have read the comments before I ordered from here. Took hr before I got my food delivered, then when the driver gets here, which she was great, she realized there was a mistake. They sent the wrong food, so she tells me she will take it back, and bring the right one. When I call the MGR, to find out how long it will take, she said, how ever long it takes the driver to get from your house here to pick it up, that they are remaking food now. So I believed what MGR said. 1 hrs later food shows up at my house, and I know it dont take that long to get from there to here. It was pink, after it was in my mouth and my gums were bleeding on it from trying to chew this leather. This was the toughest steak I have ever had in my life. Ok let's be real here.. The chances of getting a steak within an hour in Midland tx any night of the week is nearly impossible but this place does it! I've only eaten here once but it was soo good! The rolls were awesome, the salad was the only 'bad' part because it was basically just lettuce but the baked potato was good and the filet was excellent especially to have been delivered. I'm not saying it was as good as a $100 steak but it definitely beat any chain restaurants steak in the area!
