What is there to say , this place has become the menopausal wife with bipolar taste your ready to estrange yourself from. From the get go the food has always been good but service is always top notch from management down to serving staff. But our visit yesterday has changed that, lots of things no longer on the menu because they're switching to Italian and we were confused because the dishes didn't show that it was no where near Italian ,the garnishes for the tacos were not reminiscent of Italian fish taco garnishes and Italians do not serve pork belly tacos they make sandwiches with it. I'm not sure if the owner is going through a midlife crisis or the chef doesn't know about Italian cuisine but I do as a half Italian and this menu fell short horribly. The pork belly bites were to small and inconsistent texture, some pieces over cooked like bacon and really just bland. What amazed me was no more short rib dish and even the guy next to us was disappointed, in a Im not coming back way because of this and my sentiment was the same with every bite of those sad tacos. This ship is going down and thank God I'm not the captain. As we exited the restaurant we said our final farewell to this establishment that we frequent and somehow I felt like the sad sad violin music from Titanic ( My God to the) when the old couple are holding each other and the band (staff) is trying to keep they're composure was playing in the back of my head. I am so happy with the new menu at red oak, I will miss some of the old menu but several of the items are available at cork and pig next door. The Chicken Parmesan sandwich is amazing and the vodka sauce is the best I've ever had. The rice dish with pork belly is so good and the Bruschetta appetizer is delicious. The new construction is Soooooo nice and the staff and management are always amazing!!!!! read more

Excellent breakfast/brunch experience! Real coffee drinks! Lattes, espressos, etc. My vanilla latte was on point. Each entree was perfectly cooked and presented with care. Huevos Rancheros was just the right size. My over-east eggs were spot on, covering crisply baked tortillas accompanied by diced potatoes also cooked to perfection. Avocado was ripe and fanned out beautifully. Our two commuter breakfast sandwiches were delicious and BIG! The commuter sandwiches had freshly baked torta bread, light and airy. The bacon slices were generous and meaty. The ricotta lemon pancakes tasted fresh and lemony. Texture was light and fluffy. Our server Angelika could not have been better. Attentive, helpful and friendly. We've bookmarked this place to return next time in Midland/Odessa. read more

Disappointing--our last visit We live nearby and have tried Red Oak about once a year for several years. We've never had a great experience--just "okay." This visit was the last straw. Arrived around 4:15 on 12/13 to beat the crowd and were seated quickly. Our server was friendly but inexperienced. I ordered a Maple-Bacon Old Fashioned; after 15 minutes we were told they were out of bacon but could cook some. The drink never arrived--over an hour later, still no bacon. Again, we weren't in a hurry and I tried to help the young server and not stress him out. The 3-dip sampler came out quickly. We placed our entrée order and waited about 45 minutes. During that time, we noticed food and drinks being delivered to a patio table clearly staging photos, no customers, and there was no delay in serving the empty table. When our food finally arrived, the pork chops were decent but obviously sitting under heat lamps. The prime rib quesadilla was barely warm, had very little meat, and was below fast-food quality. Total bill was about $60 for an appetizer, lukewarm food, and a drink that never came. I tipped the server $10 just because I knew this wasn't his problem, he obviously wasn't getting any support from the kitchen or bar. As we left, the manager didn't acknowledge us or ask how the meal was. That says a lot. After multiple mediocre visits, we're done. Trendy is fine--but consistency and basic execution matter. We'll stick with places that get the food right, even without the hype. read more

Red Oak Kitchen was a total surprise ! It's a small, quaint, and classy dining opportunity in Odessa. The plank salmon with Caesar was delicious. Wouldn't change a thing. Me and my husband went in today and let me just say that the food and service was on point as usual. The pancakes were phenomenal and my husbands waffles were amazing. I do have one complaint though, it's very hot in the building and my server was covered in sweat. They were all wearing long sleeve black shirts, not appropriate for the weather. It was ok, not super great, not bad, just ok. I had a smash burger with homemade chips. The chips were bland and dry. Hubby had an omelet and gave it a solid 5 out of 10. Service was pretty lacking. We want to start by saying the food was very good. Between our whole group we had breakfast, fish tacos, and steak and everyone was satisfied. unfortunately the service was not good. We had a sassy waitress that forgot multiple things/accommodations we asked for. She then got defensive and said "well I have walked by here and asked yall multiple times". Not professional at all. Also not true. She came by twice and both times we reminded her of something she forgot. At that point it was too late because we were done with our meals. I tried the Mexican short rib and it was unbelievably good. Smoky and soft with a really great sauce, nice heat from the peppers and nicely accompanied by well seasoned mashed potato. Food & mimosas were VERY underwhelming. My Texas Burger had no flavor at all. The Mac & Cheese sauce tasted like a disgusting jar sauce. The homemade chips were good but way too salty. The Salmon and broccoli were undercooked. The mimosas tasted solely like pineapple juice. Overall we did not enjoy our meals, especially for the price, and would not come back which sucks because they have great customer service. Our go to place when we come back to Odessa from the ranch. We always get table one or two by the stairs and everybody's so nice and friendly. It's nice to be recognized and we know what to expect from them and they know what to expect from us. Food is always good especially like the charred cauliflower and the Ahi tuna salad. Came on 4/26 for my birthday with my dad and GF I have been to Red Oak for happy hour and have had a few of the apps they have on special during happy hour and those have always been fantastic. Now to the dinner, we had: It was phenomenal from start to finish. We had the deviled eggs for an app and they were just as good as any other time I've had them here. The beer was fresh and super cold. The entrees we had were the fish tacos (x2) and the prime rib tacos. Everything was cooked to perfection and came out nice and hot. Our server was super attentive and very respectful. The prices may be a little on the high side, but I'm a true believer that you get what you pay for. Everything was top notch and I can see why this is one of the best places in Odessa. I'll definitely be back in the near future for another dinner. read more

Just had a surprisingly fantastic dinner at the bar at Red Oak. Excellent Red Oak margarita, which wasn't too sweet and had a nice jalapeño kick. For dinner had the seared ahi salad, which was perfect. Tuna was seared rare with a bit of spice and a shiitake ponzu, served with greens, goat cheese, avo and papaya. 10/10. Last, because I'm a pig, I ordered a side enchilada, stuffed with smoky rotisserie chicken and an amazing rojo sauce and a side of guacamole. Divine. One of the very few great restaurants in Odessa, so if you find yourself in this neck of west Tex, make sure to check it out. read more

We went to brunch here last Saturday morning. I had the pork chop while my wife had a pizza and a friend had chicken and waffles. My wife said the pizza was vert good and our friend said the chicken and waffles was great. I asked for my pork chop to be medium rare to medium, but they couldn't pull it off and it came out closer to well done, but I didn't say anything as everyone else was fine with their orders. Service here is not good, our experience started with standing there and a hostess came up and took us to table then said Nevermind it will be about 15 minutes. Once seated our server took about 15 minutes to come over and she was not very attentive during the duration of our stay. We ordered the chips and tri dip for an appetizer which was good but we only received about 10 chips and were unable to finish even half the dip. When the food finally came out it was absolutely incredible, the chefs know what they are doing here but that's about it. So come here for the food not the service. Prolly will not return though due to the poor service read more
