Bah! I forgot to check in again when I was here last time! Nonetheless, these are by far the best donuts I've ever devoured! Thinking about them makes me salivate! I was here last week, and due to COVID 19, they are only allowing 3 customers inside at a time. I saw through the window there were already 3 people inside, so I waited outside for 2 minutes, max. As you walk in, you're greeted with the sweet aroma of deliciousness and the nice ladies behind the counter! I had ordered my dozens 1 day ahead so that I can definitely get my favorites! My donut babies were all packed and ready for me when I got there. ...and I did wear my mask! My favorites are cronut (fusion between croissant and donut, ginormous in size) and maple bacon donuts (cuz who doesnt like sweet and salty)... I havent tried, but I think I can finish a dozen of them by myself! These two are definitely worth a try! All of their donuts are so fluffy and airy, eating a bunch of them was not overwhelming. Another thing I found out, they're not stale at all the next day! I was told by the pretty lady owner, their donuts take a while to "restock" as they wait to get the dough to rise before frying them. I was and still am so impressed with the quality and the taste of these donuts...! We stopped here the other day on our way to Nova and I was craving doughnuts. Not a. Enormous variety, but everything we had was good. The sourdough donuts were my favorite, and the blueberry cake doughnut was good too - nice strong blueberry flavor without being fake. Doughnut holes were yummy and basically melted away in your mouth similar to cotton candy. This is an update to my glowing review three years ago. Alas, it has become clear, that the management refuses to address problems, such as I was shorted an online order. While to err is human, that management, once alerted to the problem, ignored this input - made several times. With this unhappy incident, other observations began to fall in line, such as lack of napkins, slopping handling at checkout. And most damning of all - when management "gets away with" overt items, what other items, normally hidden from view, are also let go with that mindset. This place might be the single greatest donut shop there is. They stand out by perfectly executing both their standard and simple donuts as well as their specialty donuts. I've been to this location a handful of times and the staff is always attentive and a pleasure to talk to. The donuts are so airy and fluffy. As a traditional donut it's got a great taste and perfect chew. I enjoy the filled donuts the most but the jumbo Texas sized ones are amazing as well. Yes! This place is so welcoming and the employees are awesome. They make eye contact, smile, and are super helpful. Visited at around 10 am and there was so much variety and it all looked so fresh. If you want a filled donut, they will fill it for you fresh to order. You can get strawberry, lemon, or bavarian cream filling. We tried a couple of their donuts, including a Texas donut and they were all excellent! They were super fresh, light, not overly sweet, flavorful, and made with quality ingredients. We appreciate that they weren't overly greasy either. Our donuts were wrapped up neatly and the price is right. There is some indoor seating available. Milk, juices, and some other drinks are within reach. They also sell coffee. The donut shop is clean, neat, and organized. Absolutely fantastic donuts here. I ordered the giant glazed, cronut, buttermilk, matcha, and the Bavarian cream. The texture of the giant glazed donut was remarkable; soft and pillowy, with the glaze not being too overpowering or overly sweet. Just an immaculate donut. The cronut was also amazing. I have never tried one before but I was pleasantly surprised by the taste and texture. The flaky layers were buttery and dense while being still pliable and doughy. The glaze was a good balance of sweet and delicate. I will have to order this everytime I'm here. The rest of the donuts were quite good as well, again, amazing textures and not overly sweet. What more can I say? These things are awesome! In brevity of this review, it is not often you see a flavor of Texas come out to Virginia and work as well as it does. The donuts are big and the Kolaches are as close as you can get to the real thing (according to true Texans I know). I tried a churro donut and was quite pleased. I woke up this morning craving a good donut! You know...one of those days! I was really looking forward to loving Texas Donuts based off of high reviews. I had the opportunity to try the original glazed and the chocolate glazed today and unfortunately was not as impressed as I was hoping. Typically a glazed donut and a fresh cup of coffee is the perfect sugary breakfast, yet somehow I was left wanting more. Positives include: I liked the lightness of the donut. It was not overtly sweet, heavy, or generic tasting (All of these are reasons I hate supermarket donuts).These certainly taste unique and fresh. Negatives: it was just not sweet enough somehow, and my craving for a donut was not satisfied. Two of the major things I look for in defining a good donut include freshness and ratio. To me it's important that the donut to glaze ratio should be even (not too much dough to glaze and vice versa), perhaps my glaze got soaked in? It just didn't feel like I was eating anything more than dough. The chocolate glaze was tasty but also not equivalent to the dough bite leaving my bites relatively flavorless. I would love to return and sample other types of donuts, perhaps freshly glazed to see if that improves the taste. read more

Let me just say up front, I LOVE donuts! They are definitely my Achilles heel in the food world. There is just nothing that compares to that first bite of fluffy tender deep fried dough. I make a point of sampling the local donut holes (see what I did there?) everywhere I go, and folks, these are some of the best donuts that I've had. Way beyond Dunkin or Krispy Kreme. And this donut shop has something none of the other local donut shops have... Texas-sized donuts! I mean, these things are as big as my daughters head! And they're every bit as good as the normal sized donuts (which they also sell). There are the standard donut flavors and there are seasonal exotic flavors (pumpkin, green tea) and there are the fabulous decorated donuts, Cookie Monster, Frankenstein, etc. plus puppies with floppy ears and more! They are all delicious. You can also get customized filled donuts. They generally offer options such as cream, lemon and strawberry filling in addition to seasonal specials. If that's not enough, or if you're one of those who prefers savory to sweet, they also offer authentic kolaches! If you've ever been to Texas you'll know kolaches are a big thing there, and something no self respecting donut shop would do without and, living up to their name in every sense, Texas donuts makes great kolaches too. The shop itself is bright, clean and cheerful and the proprietor and servers are uniformly, friendly, helpful and patient when you're dithering over which donuts to get. Word of advice, if you want the best selection, particularly of kolaches, you want to get there early. Once they're sold out of a flavor they're usually sold out until the next day. And they go fast!
