Quick service and I had no issues with staff. Got the Midori Lychee drink and tried samples of the Matcha and Ube flavored soft serve. The Ube was sweet and yummy while the Matcha was less sweet than I expected, but still sweet and decent. I won't lie, I liked matcha soft serve at another spot better than this place, but it hits the craving. The Lychee drink was refreshing and good. Loved the vibrant green colors in their drinks even after being mixed. Overall, good and not bad but I think I had higher expectations of the taste given this place is raved about on social media for this being a top tier matcha spot. I came here when the banana milk flavor was there for the soft serve, and I did not love it. It was somewhat smooth, but it still had some sort of icy texture to it, not sure why. I also didn't love the banana flavor, but not sure if that is just my bias because I don't love banana flavoring generally. I wish they just had a milk flavor soft serve all year round. Service was fine, ambiance is good. The place is pretty spacious, I could see it being a decent place to study or to do work. This is THE matcha spot in NOVA! Bon Tea may not have a whole lot on their menu, but each item is crafted with precision and plated beautifully. The black cocktail napkins are such an elegant touch. If you are the type to drink unsweetened matcha, this place is for you. They do a whole lot more than the basic matcha latte, including the midori lychee and hibiscus lavender--I would describe both as fruity refreshers with strong tea elements. Soft serve flavors rotate every 1-2 months (check out their instagram bio), but they always have matcha. I love their signature swirl. It's a very cool vibe when you walk in with plants lining the dinning space, large space but very quiet, menu is projected onto the wall. But yet it felt empty. One worker behind the bar which looked half empty with ingredients and displays in the case. I went for two matcha drinks as I couldn't decide. I wanted the Affagotto matcha with the nut ice cream and the Matchacano. The Matchacano was fine. I didn't think it was overly premium but def watered down. Maybe half that size would be a better ratio? The affagotto matcha was very unique and grew on you the more you ate. I liked how unique it was and def think with the matcha shot ontop that was the perfect ratio for those flavors. I would come back to try this particular treat. I would recommend that you put in orders online before coming in. There were a lot of online orders before ours so I kept thinking we are up next since it was empty and we were only ones that had ordered, but there were tickets I didn't see that were being made ahead of us. I would have gotten my computer from the car like the other people that were there, had I known. Because of the waiting I did look more at the plants and noticed a lot of them were dead and all of them needed water. The vibe was instantly decreased ascetics wise when I made this discovery. This is one of my favorite tea place honestly, has never done me wrong for the past year. All of their hot tea options are GREAT! Very warming, very calming. Honestly super soothing and I can't recommend it enough. The workers are super patient with me too, I was hesitant on what to order and they gave me suggestions on what they like on the menu each time. The first time I chalked it up to coming later in the day, but even when I came earlier this time, still no oat milk. Their soft serve is actually really good--creamy, smooth, and not grainy at all. But the matcha latte fell flat. The whole milk they used tasted oddly bland, and this is coming from someone who usually likes subtle flavors. I really wish they used a higher quality milk to give it that rich, creamy texture you'd expect. Came here for some dessert after dinner. Didn't look much into the menu but my friend said the matcha here was good so we went with some matcha soft serve and a matcha latte. Matcha soft serve was actually really good. You can taste the matcha in the matcha part of it and i believe the other half was a blueberry (or some sort of berry) swirl. The matcha latte was good as well. It came unsweetened and i believe you can add a sweetener on the side. Service was nice and friendly here. You can see the effort the worker put into trying to get the perfect swirl of soft serve haha. And you can see them whisk and make the matcha latte right in front you of. Cafe was a vibe. WOW!!! The affogato was incredible! An easy 10 out of 10! I was able to choose from 3 different flavors for the soft serve and this time I went with true matcha. Honestly, I'm not usually a big fan of matcha, but it paired so well with the rich and smooth espresso. It might actually be the best matcha ice cream I've ever had! Everything is made fresh to order, so there might be a short wait if it's busy, but it's 100% worth it. I also love that they rotate their soft serve flavors seasonally. The soft serve is very rich with flavor (for both black sesame and matcha), which I love! The Midori Lychee was sweet but the taste of matcha was strong enough to mitigate some of that extra sweetness, I would definitely enjoy it on a hot day. Came here after eating Korean BBQ next door, and tried the matcha and black sesame swirl soft-serve, the only 2 flavors available that night. Upon entering, there is a clean, modern vibe with wooden tables and chairs, and a few high tops. The tea house was pretty busy when we arrived around 9:45pm on a Friday night - most of the tables and chairs were taken with the exception of a few. Since we only got soft serve, the service was quick, as expected. As for the soft serve itself, the matcha was very earthy tasting, which is good if you don't like your soft serve very sweet. The black sesame tasted as expected, but wasn't anything special. I will probably visit again the next time I'm in the area to try out their drinks, and maybe give their other soft serve flavors a try as well. read more

I struggled to find official confirmation on this, but I suspect that this is the matcha soft serve window that used to be a few blocks from the White House, having opened an expanded location out in the boondocks. While in a nondescript mall, the place had a fairly strong atmosphere inside. It was busy, but I was impressed with how quickly the one guy working there was able to churn out drinks that require extensive whisking. I went for an affogato, getting my milk-flavored soft serve with a helping of hot tea. The flavors were as pure as I'd hoped. Flavors rotate, and sometimes vegan soft serve is offered (though not always). This is my favorite place to get authentic, high grade matcha whenever I'm passing through VA. Usually go out of my way to make a pit stop because it's just that good! Was fairly disappointed at my last travel because it's maybe few times at most a year I get to visit and this recent trip being over a year since my last visit to Bon Tea House. What was disappointing was the hours for Sunday says they open at 12 on the door but apparently it's 1pm. Sadly we had to hit the road to be on time for the trip and had to miss out! At first, I was like wow why all the hype?? I ordered the cold matcha Midori with Lychee to go. At first it was not mixed so all I tasted was cold, unsweetened matcha. I wasn't impressed. Then I took few more sips, then WHOA. It hit me. This was amazingly complex, unsweetened high quality mixed matcha tea. Ok I get the hype now. The decor inside is wonderful. Like minimalist Japanese garden but inside. However the acoustics inside is a bit loud with all the people chatter amplified I'm the beautiful space. Which can be a vibe of im itself. I've heard good things about bon tea house and wanted to try it after getting a disappointing matcha latte at a different store earlier in the day. I always get matcha with oatmilk but they ran out and had to use regular milk. I liked that they hand whisk all the matcha to order. The latte I ordered came out pretty grainy tho (you can see it in the photo). The matcha lattes come unsweetened and they have a mini station where you can add liquid sweetener to your own liking. The store doesn't carry any straws or stirring sticks so it was difficult to mix the matcha drink itself and after I added sugar. I was hesitant to shake the cup in a circular motion too roughly since there was a hole in the lid and I was wearing white clothing. The staff kindly offered to help mix the drink for me (I thought she was gonna use something to stir it) but she ended up shaking it in a circular motion and spilt some of it too. Also, not sure what type of sugar/sweetener they had, as I added 2 generous squirts and my drink was not sweet at all, and I even went back to add more but it still wasn't sweet. Something about it just tasted off and I couldn't finish it. Despite that, the matcha soft serve was amazing and the limeade was great.
