Good matcha- just quite sweet and pricey. I got a mango matcha and it was still sweet despite asking for less sugar. Also tried their banana matcha at a different location. Quick service and it's a small kiosk on the side. Overall, I feel like I can make better or find better nearby. This wouldn't be my go to spot, but it'll do if in the mall. read more

They're hyper focused on matcha and I think they do it well. Yes there's usually matcha powder at the bottom but the matcha flavors are very tasty ! This time I tried the rose matcha latte and it's really very delicious and the rose syrup wasn't too sweet. Service is okay. Depends who's working the counter sometimes they're new and not helpful sometimes they're friendly, sometimes meh. It's inconsistent but the drinks are consistent and come out in less than 10 minutes which is pretty good for the small business size. This is my favorite matcha place - what they serve in terms of the matcha flavor and the mochi and anko (sweet red bean paste) has just the right combination to evoke the many matcha places in Japan or an authentic matcha dessert in a Japanese restaurant. The uji kintoki is the perfect combination of mochi, anko, intense matcha shaved ice. The service can be a bit slow when the mall is very busy, which it often is during weekends, and having this dessert while next to shoppers and a Victoria's Secret may not be the best setting, but if you're able to score a seat at the countertop and maybe avert your eyes from the busyness of the servers as they prepare everyone's order, this is truly one of the better matcha dessert places even though it is a kiosk in Tyson's read more

I'm really disappointed with the service I received. The soft serve provided was far below expectations. The staff showed little interest in helping, communication was poor, and basic courtesy was lacking. I also felt that my concerns were dismissed rather than addressed. For the price and the reputation of this business (compared to the one in Rockville, MD), I expected much better. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this place based on my experience. The Matcha Soft Serve here is so creamy and strong! For the price, they give you a lot as well! Definitely think this is one of the better matcha spots in town. I have been seeing the Banana Pudding Matcha Latte go viral online as well, and when we gave it a try, I do think it lived up to the hype. Located in Tysons Mall, I think this is an awesome spot for a quick sweet treat during your mall trip. It wasn't very crowded when we came on a weekday, so the service was quick. Oh my goodness. This matcha was LIFE CHANGING. I have never tasted anything so divine. It's as though I am drinking the nectar of the gods. This was the best $10 I have ever spent. I will never feel this level of euphoria and happiness again. I watched mournfully, tears dripping down my face, as the matcha dwindled away with each sip. Checked out the matcha cafe stall in Tysons and left pretty underwhelmed. The drinks were overhyped and honestly just average--nothing that stood out in flavor or presentation. I've been on a hunt in the DMV to find the best matcha spots and sadly this one wasn't it! I ordered the medium iced matcha latte with oat milk and immediately regretted it! You can see in the photos how they didn't mix the matcha well because there's chunks at the bottom of the drink. As a result it tasted like plain oat milk and I was drinking lumps of matcha and ended up throwing it out. If you're looking for ceremonial grade matcha, I'd skip out on this place! read more

OMG! What a find!! I was just walking around Tyson's Corner mall which is huge and discovered this gem!! I was so happy as I go to a place in Honolulu that has matcha deliciousness!!! Now I found it here in Tysons Virginia!!! I was able to enjoy a scrumptious refreshing dessert while walking around the mall. I totally look forward to my visits here more than ever!!!! Had the S2 option on the menu with mix flavor. The cup had soft serve on the top. The bottle of the cup was filled with some cake like thing, bean paste, corn flakes like thing, jelly like thing and syrup. It was interesting but personally I think I should have just stuck to ice cream in a cup. The matcha had a very strong flavor, which was good. It was littler bitter though compared to other matcha drinks, cakes or treats I have had. Not sure if it's supposed to be like that. read more

High-quality Matcha! My friend and I were exploring Tysons and stopped by Matcha Cafe Maiko. Having seen people around the mall order the soft serve and matcha drinks for a few years now, I was so excited to finally try for myself! I got a Matcha Latte and it was the perfect blend of the powder and sweetened whole milk. The Matcha itself wasn't overpowered by the sweetener or the milk - a problem I usually run into. A very strong taste that left a soft, savory aftertaste. I really enjoyed its earthy notes, non-bitterness, and smooth taste. Honestly one of the best Matchas I've had in the area! This is such a nice spot for drinks/dessert after a good walk in the mall I love their matcha latte & matcha soft serve. You can taste the intense matcha flavor as well as the balance of the sweetness. If you prefer things less sweet I'd recommend hojicha (roasted green tea) as I find that the hojicha latte, personally tastes less sweet, and more toasty. I was at Tysons Corner Mall the other day and for some odd reason I was just craving something Matcha. Luckily Matcha Cafe Maiko was around the corner as I was going out of Uniqlo so I was delighted to know my cravings were being met. This is a small stand that has a pretty extensive menu of Matcha related items/bakery goods you could buy. Unlike it's counter part in Centerville, options may be a bit limited too. I wasn't really feeling getting something hot like a Matcha latte so opted for something like... ice cream. You probably are wondering; isn't it cold to eat ice cream in the winter? Nonsense. I think it's the perfect time honestly. I got the Matcha & Vanilla Swirl on a Waffle Cone. The amount that they give you is a lot and even the waffle cone is pretty good too. My issue with waffle cones is that ice cream when melted can drip down the waffle as some just leak. This one I can safely say does not do that after holding it for 10-15 minutes straight. I was also eating inside of a store to confirm that too ( I don't recommend this, I was with friends so I tagged along ). My friend got this Uji-Kintoki shaved ice dessert that features Matcha Syrup, Adzuki Beans, Shiratama, and condensed milk. I had a scoop and I'd say it's a bit on the sweeter side but great for sharing. You honestly get alot for such a good price. My only complaint really is that there's only one person who works there afaik, and it seems like it could take a minute to get your order. Perhaps that could have been a slow day but I was still satisfied with how everything turned out. I'll be coming back for more ice cream! read more

Not as good as I hoped. The soft serve was kind of icy and the matcha tasted bitter. The latte became icy and hard to drink, too. The black sesame flavor was good and balanced the bitterness of the matcha, but overall I didn't enjoy the items I got from this kiosk of Matcha Cafe Maiko. Maybe their standalone stores are better? The service was not the best - the cashier was sitting behind the counter and hidden from view. The sitting didn't bother me, but it's the fact that I couldn't initially locate someone to put in my order. She was nice, and maybe she can sit in front of the register if that works for the kiosk space. Service was quick, otherwise. Overall, I don't recommend and would not come back! read more

This place is located inside Tysons corner and offers of variety of different Matcha drinks. I got the chocolate Matcha and it was almost 7 dollars for the medium which is their smallest size. It's really just a Matcha latte with some chocolate Hershey syrup in it, not sure what I expected, but it was just OK. If you're already in the mall and are looking for Matcha, it's a good spot to try out. Otherwise I wouldn't come to Tyson's just to try this place. However, I didn't try the ice cream and I can't speak on whether it's good or not so I'll have to come back and try that read more

Matcha Cafe Maiko offers Shaved Ice, Soft Serve, Parfaits, Teas, Lattes, Frappes, and Floats. Employees are friendly and very helpful. I ordered the matcha soft serve and a plain iced matcha latte. They were pretty good, my only complaint was the soft serve had a more prominent bitter aftertaste than I'm normally used to with matcha ice cream or matcha soft serve, but otherwise I really enjoyed what I ordered. I'm not an expert with the Tyson's layout, but I found this stand very conveniently located on the 2nd floor next to the outdoor entrance for many fun outdoorrestaurants. I loved the ambience around this stand, and wish I snapped a picture! The ceiling was decorated with fake but pretty greenery and flowers, and there was ample seating between this stand and the Starbucks. The service was great, and the barista was kind and knowledgeable about the menu. I would definitely give it another try, maybe even try something new, as there seemed to be many interesting and tasty looking items to choose from! read more

"It's not too sweet!" = the ultimate Asian compliment. ;) I rarely make the trek to Tysons, but I always make sure to stop here when I do. Their matcha is very high quality and they pack a lot of options into a small kiosk. On my most recent visit, I was thirsty, but I also wanted ice cream. So I got the matcha float and topped with matcha and vanilla swirl soft serve. It looked like a lot but it was so good, I managed to eat/drink it quickly. They also have a burnt matcha cheesecake that is quite good. They also have hojicha latte if you want to switch it up and try some roasted tea. Our soft serve ice cream, waffle cones and toppings are freshly made in house daily, and our premium organic Matcha & Hojicha (roasted green tea) powders are directly imported from a 300 year old award-winning grower in Kyoto, Japan. A Disappointing Aloha in Tysons - Not the Matcha Cafe Maiko I Remember. As an islander recently relocated to the Tysons/McLean area, I felt a wave of homesickness subside when I discovered the local Matcha Cafe Maiko. With fond memories of the original establishment back in Hawaii, my family and I were thrilled to have a taste of home nearby. Unfortunately, our excitement turned into a series of disappointments that have left us questioning the management of this outpost. From the get-go, we were met with inconsistencies that were frankly bewildering for a place with such a strong reputation. Multiple visits resulted in either finding a "sold out" sign on nearly every item or, even worse, an entirely unstaffed kiosk. I can't help but wonder, how can a business run without anyone to run it? But the real kicker came on May 28th. Arriving two hours past their advertised opening time, my daughter and I were greeted not by the sweet aroma of matcha, but by a group of teens using the unattended kiosk as their personal hangout. Embarrassment turned into concern when we noticed the milk delivery left unattended, presumably for hours. Surely, no one would serve that milk...right? I remember Matcha Cafe Maiko as a beacon of consistency and quality. To see its reputation tarnished by such mismanagement is truly disheartening. I hate to think of what the founders would feel, seeing their proud name associated with this disarray. To add salt to the wound, Soricha, just down the escalators, seemed to be thriving amidst Maiko's chaos. The owner, short-staffed yet undeterred, personally attended to customers, a shining example of dedication and business acumen. We ended up giving Soricha a try, and while it wasn't the taste of home we'd hoped for, it was a satisfying alternative. I pen this review with a heavy heart. It's painful to see a place you love lose its way. I understand times are challenging and patience is required, but there's a limit. A business needs to meet its most basic obligations to its customers, and unfortunately, Matcha Cafe Maiko in Tysons has missed the mark. As it stands, I find it hard to recommend this place to anyone. I hope they can turn things around and restore the proud name of Matcha Cafe Maiko, but until then, we'll be looking elsewhere for our matcha fix. read more

Overall, the Matcha and vanilla flavors were good, but the combination of cereal and other items didn't work well, especially the cereal itself didn't feel very Japanese. I didn't try any of the drinks because I assumed they would be just sweet nonsense, which I don't want to overdo. However, the ice cream is really good. The other items that came with the ice cream were different from the mixture in the cup, but if you eat the ice cream with the cone, it's not bad. So, I recommend trying it. read more

This review is for the pastry I tried. I walked by and saw the pastries, and they looked good. I decided to get the matcha croissant tart for my drive back, and I was so excited to try it until I took a bite. I was met with disappointment as the tart was terribly sour? Like sour milk. I don't know if it was an old pastry or a bad batch, but it tasted horrible. My partner and I both spit out our bite and threw it away. 100% would not recommend.
