This time I got the Limited flavor: Hibiscus chili punch, which was very fun, it's a sort of sorbet that's tart and sweet then the chili adds a kick that warms the back of your throat. Jeni's Ice Cream was our latest ice cream spot to try in the area.  There are many to choose from so we were a little picky.  Everything was fine, but nothing really made it stand out from the many others in the neighborhood. The service was fine.  We were surprised that when some of the ice cream dropped from the sample spoon on to the floor by accident, and we asked for a napkin to clean it up, they told us not to worry about it.  I went and found a napkin anyway.  It was a little gross to have a blop of ice cream (even a small one) right in front of the counter where people would step on it.  They also didn't offer another sample knowing that that one never made it to anyone's mouth for a tasting....  Anyway, we opted to try two waffle cones with  a total of four scoops - malted milk chocolate and banana cookie dough, goey butter cake salted peanut butter and brown butter almond brittle.  Maybe it's a matter of too many different things in each type but we didn't really rave over any of them.  The location is clean with plenty of seating and a nice view of the flowered walk way out front.  However, being that it fell short of several other ice cream spots we have tried lately and that you have to pay for parking, I don't think we will be back. read more

Y'all, I came across Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream while in McLean, VA. Let me tell you, I was immediately sold. I, of course, sampled almost all of the flavors, and I was torn between what to choose. The portion sizes were humungous, and everything was delicious! The store was very clean, and the staff was very friendly. Upon entry, they greeted me with a smile and were eager to assist. The location is perfect. There is ample parking around the shopping center and also a great location to walk around and eat your ice cream while exploring the area. One got out the binder to double check that requested flavors were gluten free I was excited to get the Pink Bubblegum flavor as that was a childhood favorite. I will say it didn't really taste like pink bubblegum to me, it was more just sweet, but it was good and I'd rather that than a very artificial taste (which I guess the actual flavor is lol). The ice cream was delicious! I ordered the popcorn brittle and birthday cake half scoops in a waffle cup. 10/10 on the flavors and am curious to try the other ones. The reason why I deducted stars is because despite the line not being long, it took 15-20 minutes waiting in line just to order something. I only had 3 people in front of me. There was only 1 employee taking orders and scooping while the other employee kept their head down and was deep cleaning the waffle maker. The line also kept getting longer and that employee kept cleaning instead of helping the other employee. The whole atmosphere of the place just felt...awkward and sad because of the one employee handling everyone's orders all alone. It also wasn't just me. My friend and I were craving something sweet and were pleasantly surprised to find a Jeni's nearby. I got the Brambleberry and Gooey Butter Cake in a waffle cone while my friend went with the Green Mint and Buttercream Birthday Cake in a cup. This was my first time coming to Jeni's and I'm in love! There were so many unique flavors and they even make their waffles cones and bowls fresh in store! My second visit to a Jeni's ice cream shop!! Their signature signage caught my attention while I was at happy hour. I rarely come to this area, so I had to stop even though I already tried it before. The staff was super inviting and friendly as soon as we walked in. They let us try a couple samples. I was a little overwhelmed due to zero capacity and didn't bother to read the flavors/descriptions. I asked the employee for samples of the 2 seasonal flavors (Bay Leaf Cheesecake and Sweet Potato Marshmallow Praline). While they both tasted like pure sugar, I chose the Bay Leaf Cheesecake. I ordered the smallest size, which was the kid's scoop in a waffle cone...although it was still pricey, Their ice cream is definitely pricey, given the area (and probably insane rent!). There's a galore of over 2 dozen flavors to choose from and some seasonal and limited edition specialty flavors in collaboration with other businesses (there was a kulfi rose flavored ice cream). Here's the scoop of my favorite flavors: - Brambleberry Crisp - Tastes like blueberry pie! - Vegan, dairy-free Texas Sheet Cake - Light, fudgey dark chocolate ice cream with brownie bites. I didn't realize it was vegan or dairy-free, you can't taste the difference. - Tahini Oats Chocolate Cookie - Super interesting texture of oatmeal and chocolate and pairs well with the Texas Sheet Cake. Highly recommend getting a split scoop, as a single scoop is a generous portion. I just wasn't a fan of the complementary salty waffle cone piece. The service is awesome and very kindly and patiently let me try a wide variety of flavors, at least 4 or 5 samples. They were so nice that I came back the following week to get another scoop and a staff member even opened the door for my stroller. Perhaps I don't really understand the hype or what attracts people to Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams. I went here on a late summer evening and there was a line right out the door. It was so bad that I think I only saw like two employees working, one taking ice cream orders and one cashing out. Really shocking that there's not enough workers to keep up with the demand. While it's true that they have unique flavors, the price point is a bit hard to defend unless you really are a die hard fan of Jeni's. I didn't want to stand there and awkwardly figure out on the spot of what I wanted so I just picked one of the features on the board. The Lemon Buttercream Cake was calling to me. Pretty much it's just Buttercream Birthday Cake and Lemon & Blueberries Parfait in a Buttercrisp Waffle Cone. I was so happy once I got it after a long hour wait. The ice cream was smooth and it had hints of both the lemon and blueberries. The birthday cake did well taste exactly like it and the waffle cone is just felt right instead of the ice cream being in a bowl. Came here after dinner in the Boro and this place really hit the spot. The employees were super friendly and let us sample a bunch of different flavors. We got the kids scoop, which is just one ice cream scoop. I thought this was the perfect amount to round out our evening. I got the double dough, which is a chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream flavor, which I really enjoyed. It was creamy and delicious. My waffle was stale - half of it was chewy and the other half was hard. It's cute for presentation purposes, not if you're planning on having a nice waffle cone pieces with your ice cream. I first tried Jeni in DC and loved it. So when I found out that there was a location in Northern VA I was pretty excited. First this Mclean location doesn't have free parking. It is located at The Boro. There is a parking garage very close (see pic). If you don't plan to stay for longer than 1 hour (weekdays) or 2 hours (weekends) then you can get you parking ticket validated. In terms of flavors and options there are a ton of very unique flavors, which is what Jeni's is known for. I've tried their wildberry lavender at their DC location and loved it. But for some reason this time when I tried it, it tasted very artificial. I did sample the darkest chocolate and that was very rich and creamy. Would recommend the darkest chocolate flavor. When I came I was redeeming my free birthday scope. I specifically asked the employee if it came with the cone. They said yes but I still ended up getting charged for it anyways. If the waffle cone was actually good and not kinda stale tasting then I wouldn't have mind paying for it. Definitely wouldn't recommend getting a cone. Oh well you live and you learn. The folks working behind the counter all seem very young and might as well be high school students. So don't expect stellar service. The price is a bit on the high side for ice cream. But you do get a pretty large quantity. I agree with the reviewers on a smaller, cheaper portion option. In terms of seating, there isn't much inside. This location is next to the movie theater and across the street from Whole Foods. We tried the Lemon Bar, Cream Biscuits with Peach Jam and Butter Cake scoops. The key to this ice cream is that, the balance between sweet, sour and savory is practically perfect. I really can't pick a favorite but if I had to it would be Cream Biscuits with Peach Jam. Inspired by Nashville's Loveless Café's famous biscuits this combo is spot on with flavor. Now let's dig into my favorite flavor. I see a little bit of the peach jam swirl. The base ice cream is a near white color with some hints of the biscuit mix-ins. Digging in, the buttermilk flavor of the base is fairly mild -- this is not at all 'sour'. I got a bit of peach jam in the first spoonful and this is the predominant flavor and it tastes really good. As I continue eating, I start to appreciate the biscuit mix-ins. They are not too large and chewy, so I don't single them out in any individual spoonful, but collectively they give the base ice cream a different texture and flavor. I really can imagine myself eating a biscuit-flavored ice cream. Together it was like peach jam spread on a soft biscuit -- but in ice cream form. The half scoops are basically regular sized scoops, so you can experiment with multiple half scoop flavors or get one giant sized scoop of your favorite. I got the three half scoop deal and I'm glad I did. Each of the flavors were delicious and different. The peanut butter ice cream tasted like actual salted peanuts. The dark chocolate lived up to the name, it was rich and silky smooth. Surprisingly, my favorite was the Brambleberry, which expertly balanced the fruit, vanilla, and pie crust type flavor. Best yet, sprinkles are free (and they always make me happy on ice cream, even as a grown man!). I also bought two pints (which are, unlike the ice cream scoops, way too expensive).
