Unfortunately, I had a bad experience. I came in really excited to try the kunafa because it's been advertised a lot on Instagram and it looked amazing in the videos and photos. But what I got was a complete disappointment. The kunafa was extremely dry and tasted like it wasn't freshly made, and the cheese didn't taste fresh either, it had that "been sitting" flavor. The texture was off, not warm or soft the way kunafa should be, and it honestly tasted stale. On top of that, the coffee portions are very small for the price. For what you're charging, I expected a bigger cup and better quality overall. The experience didn't match the hype or the pricing, and I left feeling like I wasted my money. I got the Biscoff croffle and I also got a Mexican latte and both were so good. I felt like I ate the Craffle so fast because it was so good. I felt like these kind of desserts you only get in Europe, so it was very nice to see that these existed near my house. My husband got the shaghf tart and a pistachio latte and they were both individually good, but the tart had a level of sweetness that I couldn't handle. He has a big sweet tooth and enjoyed it. They also have a fruit tart that is not in the display box, I might try that next time and probably pair it with a less sweet drink again. I've enjoyed all my visits to this Shagf location. The ambiance is a comfortable setting with Earth tones and green plants. The coffee and food is delicious. Shagf Cafe, like its location in Falls Church, specializes in unique, North African and Dubai-inspired flavors. Without customizations or extra shots, the coffee isn't necessarily caffeine-driven, but still delicious. My favorite is the Lotus Latte. The African Pudding is absolutely delicious and served warm. The customer service has always been OK. This location, being newer than the location in Falls Church, has a self-service kiosk for ordering, conspicuous WiFi information, and ample seating. The parking situation is not ideal as the street parking is limited and too competitive, serving multiple businesses on this street. There is parking around the corner, which I have yet to locate, however, it is in the vicinity. NOTE: the adjacent apartment building has conspicuous signage warning against retail parking. The enforcement seems to be pretty serious as there is signage on the Shagf storefront reiterating this. I've encountered a resident who also echoed this warning. The Shaghf tart was divine! It was like a warm pecan pie with melted cookie butter on top. It was perfectly sweet and the crumbly texture was great! Really cool new coffee shop! We came to the grand opening of the Fairfax/Merrifield location of Shaghf cafe because they were giving out free Dubai chocolate to the first 200 customers and was impressed by the food and drink that we got. The grand opening was very hectic, but the employees did a good job of keeping the lines moving as fast as they could. Inside of the shop, there were two kiosks and one cashier that customers could order from. Inside of the shop, there was a good amount of seating. On a different day where there aren't so many people, this would a be a good place to get some work done or hang out with friends! The menu has a large variety of unique drinks and desserts. We got the ocean blue drink and carrot cake. The ocean blue was pretty tasty and had a refreshing lime and mint flavor. The carrot cake was not too sweet and very light and fluffy. We did have to wait quite a while for our order, but I think part of it was because it was very crowded due to then grand opening. Hopefully the service will be better on a non-grand opening day. The employees were nice and helped me get find my order when I asked. I would definitely come back to this shop! read more

There are two self-serve kiosks to order from - drink descriptors are not overly helpful and you cannot customize (i.e. sweetness level). My Habibi latte had no spices whatsoever, which was expected to have. The date latte was too syrupy sweet. This is a perfectly fine coffee shop if regular coffee is what you are seeking. There are two kiosks to order from, as well as a cashier at the front, so everything is pretty straightforward. There's a ton of seating with room for large and small parties. I ordered the Iced Spanish Latte and enjoyed it through and through! Maybe a bit pricey for how much you get, but it's on par with similar places in NOVA. I'm not a huge coffee drinker, but this one was just smooth. I was so thrilled to see another location open in VA, but this time right across the street from me!!! I enjoyed the Falls Church location so I had high expectations, and they were met. Afternoons are less busy than night (after dinner) usually. You can order at the 2 self kiosks, but I wasn't able to order with oat milk? Not sure if there's even a decaf option for coffee. I had to ask for oat milk with a cashier. The staff is friendly and even attentive. Drinks do take longer than pastries, so be patient with them when it's busy! An employee came over to our table multiple times to make sure we got everything we ordered! My favorite is the iced Date Latte! Pistachio is also very solid. LOVED the Shaghf Tart omg. They will even warm it up for you. The drinks can get quite sweet so I wonder if we could ask for less syrup/sweet. What a beautiful cafe. I love the touches of olive trees all around the cafe; they are fake but it gives the cafe a warm feeling. Additionally, the staff greet you in when you walk into the door. There are two options to order either through their touch screen ordering machine or with them at the counter. There are pastries and sandwiches on display. I ordered the Shaghf tart and pistachio croissant. I ordered a turkey croffle for someone else. For drinks, I ordered the iced date latte, iced red velvet latte, and iced pistachio latte. The Shaghf tart was my favorite sweet treat. The mashed dates sitting on top of the tart pastry was just done sooo well. I thought I would hate it because of the Lotus cream on top but it added a nice touch of sweetness to the tart. It wasn't too sweet overall. I was hoping it'd pair well with my date latte. Unfortunately, my date latte was only pretty. I didn't feel like I got much date flavor; I kept stirring and stirring but the flavor never seemed to want to show up. I also did not get much of a wake up kick from my coffee, which I was hoping for. So it wasn't strong enough for me; I'd probably add another shot of espresso next time. I felt the same way about the red velvet latte; didn't get much of a red velvet taste. It was a sweet taste but did not remind me of red velvet. The pistachio latte was probably the only one true to its flavor. But my opinion about the coffee not being strong enough remains the same. Okay... there is a lot to unpack here. I first have to start by saying that I have been to Shaghf Cafe before in Falls Church and I love getting their lattes and have gotten their drinks several times. After hearing of their new location in Fairfax by Mosaic District with a larger more extensive menu I was excited to try out this spot knowing and expecting it to deliver the same quality experience as their other location. With this expectation in mind, my group ordered a variety of drinks and desserts to try and overall left the cafe disappointed. For pros, the location is spacious and beautiful with a lot of seating despite it being quite busy at the cafe. Their self service screens make ordering easy. Desserts are actually quite delicious but it also depends what you choose. Now for cons- When ordering there isn't really an option to do drink customizations (select sweetness or ice level) but there are options to change the milk for a $1 up charge and lactose free. The menu is large but like the desserts what you choose to drink will be a hit or miss. Unfortunately it seems like we chose a bunch of misses. Drinks: 2/5 - Lotus Frappe - As mentioned, you can't customize the sweetness of your drinks and this was just a tad too sweet. 3.5/5 - Kinder Frappe - The best drink we ordered. Not overly sweet with blended textures of the Kinder chocolate and overall balanced. 1/5 - White Matcha Crack - Would give this a negative score if it was possible out of 5. Looks like they have the white chocolate already added and frozen to their cups ready to pour in matcha when ordered. The concept is there but the execution is terrible because the drink is almost un-drinkable. Matcha is a little grainy and low quality not the brightest green like ceremonial matcha which is fine but combined with the white chocolate shell concept it made the drink worse. The white chocolate shell was what made the matcha have its sweetness but it was so difficult to get through a straw. It also did not "crack" in the cup properly and from my pictures and videos you can see the bottom of the cup took up unnecessary space by this solidified chunk of white chocolate. Desserts: 4.5/5 - San Sebastian White Cheesecake with Lotus Sauce - This was delicious. Cheesecake is super soft and pairs well with the lotus sauce we picked. This is a dessert I would order again and come back for 2/5 - Pistachio Croissant - Difficult to eat not flaky, buttery, soft. Have to use a fork and knife to cut through this and it was even hard to cut this croissant into pieces. Honestly tasted like it was stale. Overall, I don't normally write negative reviews like this especially for cafes but if I am paying a higher price point for drinks and pastries I would expect higher quality or at least my drink to be "drink-able". We paid $50 for 4 drinks and 2 desserts and left the cafe disappointed and made our stomachs hurt. read more
