Nathan's Dairy Bar was a treat after leaving minature golf. Both are adjacent to each other and make bed fellows. The strawberry cake was divine. Wifey had pecan pecan ice-cream but was a faux de pas. There was no pecan in the butter pecan. My in law had orange sherbet. It was nice outdoor seating. It was a nice afternoon to salivate with ice cream and sherbet. Ice cream and sherbet is a summertime staple and a delight for the kiddos! I could not get a picture of wife's fake butter pecan because it was all eaten up when I started this post. Natan's Dairy Bar was a hit!
I heard good stuff about this place from friends and social media, so I wanted to give it a try. I love the retro local theme of the ice cream shop, where everyone hangs out. The workers also seemed friendly and happy to help. I feel like this place was overrated on social media because I've had better local ice cream closer to my house. I appreciated one of the workers that recommended me cookies and cream milkshake, instead of the cookie monster because it would be creamier. He didn't have to tell me that, but I like the honesty and recommendations. The milkshake was decent, but it tasted like there was either too much milk, or the ice cream was on the blander side. I don't believe this tasted like a grade A ice cream, but I am not an expert. The soft serve did not have as much vanilla flavor as I would have liked either.
I thought it was a bit overrated in instagram. Nothing bad or anything it was just so average. I got the giant cone icecream and they didn't really stayed it very well that it got tilted immediately. Maybe because there were so many people that they didn't have enough time to do? I'm not sure. It wasn't worth of drive tbh. Price wasn't bad. People who love icecream can definitely checks out but I just really didn't like how my cream turned out to be and I had to dump it in the cup and eat it.

My sister and I both large soft serves (orange cream for me and fudge ripple for her) and they were amazing! Great price and great flavor, perfect for a hot summer day. I will say the line wrapped around the building was a little intimidating when we pulled up but it moved quickly and efficiently - it's a shorter wait than it looks and definitely worth it!

Outstanding! No question! I had the waffle nachos with vanilla chocolate swirling, peanut butter sauce and toasted coconut crunches for a topping. YUM And while I was waiting, this guy told me to try a sample of their lemon...it's a big time sellout. So I asked and they handed me a sample...and I can see why it's a sellout! Hey, there's not much of a view (your basic parking lot ), but to me, this is a serious soft serve ice cream stop. Seriously!

The service was fast so if I am nearby and want ice cream this is the place.
The place is worthy of the hype and totally worth the drive to Manassas. It's a stand with seating out front so you can eat at the tables outside or take it to go. They're located in a large parking lot so there's plenty of parking even if they're crowded. They have a large menu with many soft serve and regular flavors and several different serving sizes. They even have a model showing how much you get with the various sizes. I had the seasonal harvest apples which were baked cinnamon apples and lots of vanilla soft serve ice cream. It was perfect and I was barely able to finish it all even though I was hungry. Service was very friendly and we ended up chatting with a friendly regular who frequents this place. I'll be back here for sure and there's a mini golf course next door you want to work off your ice cream.
I love the soft serve here. I haven't tried anything else, but it all sounds so good. The vibes here are great and everything is reasonably priced.
This place is truly a gem! The soft serve is sooo delicious (as expected!) because who doesn't like a nostalgic soft serve ice cream cone. The service is great and it is a super chill spot to stop and get ice cream. (No parking concerns since it's like in a parking lot across from mini golf place/) My favorite thing about this place is the amount of flavors they offer and that it rotates throughout the year! Also it's super affordable... and delicious of course! Worth a try if you are near by!
The best ice cream shop in Northern Virginia! We have been going to Nathan's regularly for years, and we are always happy with what Nathan's has to offer. Nathan's serves both soft serve, hand scooped ice cream, and shaved ice. My personal favorites are sundaes and milkshakes - which you can pretty much customize depending on your preferences. I highly recommend the cheesecake sundae and banana peanut butter milkshake. The staff is always nice and accommodating no matter what time we visit. The vibe is always happy - with families with kids or dogs lining up patiently and orderly. Inexpensive but always a delight. Keep up the good work, Nathan's.

Finally got to try the local favorite for ice cream! We got the ice cream flight--you can choose 4 flavors. We went with the daily specials: Cookie Monster, Funfetti, FlufferNutter, and Cow Tripping. With tax, it was $8.25. Pricing is quite good compared to other ice cream establishments. Line was pretty long but we got our ice cream after 25 minutes of standing in line--it took 5 minutes once our order was placed to get our order. Nice staff and there is a bathroom onsite but you have to ask so they can let you in. Cookie Monster: Definitely get if you love a good amount of cookie in your ice cream. Such a fun blue color! Funfetti: The birthday cake flavor isn't too strong but it came with a reasonable amount of sprinkles. FlufferNutter: The peanut butter was more apparent in their chunks than the ice cream itself. It was quite nutty overall, but not too in your face. Cow Tripping: I was hoping it would be my favorite since it is chocolate with Reese's pieces, but it didn't have much Reese's. Good chocolate ice cream though. read more
Kept reading about this place so I went to check it out around d 6:30pm last Saturday. We almost did t go because the line was so long but we stuck it out and so glad we stayed in line. It move fairly quickly and the ice cream was totally worth it. I got the four flavor ice cream flight and my friend got the chocolate swirl with jimmies. I LOVED ALL THE FLAVORS of the flight: macadamia, white chocolate mocha, vanilla and samoas (like the Gurl Scout cookie). Man these were all so good. By the time we finished eating, the line was more than double than when we first got there. We will definitely go back but maybe on a weekday coz that line was cray cray. read more

MANASSAS , Va. -A flight of ice cream for $8? Yes, please! This roadside ice cream stand does the job well. Tons of parking lot parking. Plenty of benches around for seating. Numerous soft serve and hand scooped ice cream and shaved ice flavors. The missus and I got a flight of four ice creams on a Monday midday - while brisk business going on, we were served quickly. Each scoop is fairly generous. The blueberry ice cream was a particular standout - very blueberry-ish. We'll definitely be back when in the Manassas area. read more

Absolutely delicious ice cream! Despite the long line, it went quickly, and the orders were accurate. Among the best soft serve, and the kiddy cone was just enough but not too much. Parking was plentiful, and there are lots of tables. Will return when I'm in the area! read more

I'm not in the area often but Nathan's is a must when I am. I love soft serve and they have the most flavors I've ever seen at a shop. They also have tons of ice cream flavors. Their flight option is perfect if you have trouble picking between all of them. The service is also outstanding. There's usually a line on the weekends and they move pretty fast. The most recent time I went, I accidentally dropped the blue cotton candy on my shirt and they graciously gave me some dish soap on a wet napkin so it wouldn't stain. read more

Straight-forward, no frills Dairy Bar. I had no idea these guys are local legends in Manassas since I grew up closer to DC, but I can see why. My Swirl soft serve was as tall as the sky at an extremely affordable price. To add to the charm, the owner offered me a bowl once my cone started getting a bit melty which was thoughtful and worthy of a 5-star experience. Nathan's stood the test of time and with good reason. read more

I love going to Nathan's. The price is cheap and the ice cream is superb! There will usually be a line but it lives very fast. The staff is attentive, helpful and lets you try different flavors so you can find out what you want. It's best to check their menu online to see what hand scooped flavors they are serving. They also have great soft serve ice cream as well. I highly recommend this place. It's also pretty chill atmosphere as well. read more

We went on a gorgeous sat afternoon. There was a continuous long line but it goes fast. The workers are quick and efficient to get orders. There are tables to sit outside. Dog friendly on a leash. And a porcelain cow to take pictures with. They have non dairy drinks as well. Great little spot to come and hang on on a beautiful day out. read more
After a wedding where we left before dessert was served, my wife and I stopped at Nathan's Dairy Bar thanks to Yelp. (It's top rated!) There was a line, but it went fast. For just a few dollars, my wife got the ice cream sandwich (it's vanilla ice cream in between two Oreo cookies) and I the sundae. I built my own with double the fudge, marshmallow fluff, bananas, and "wet nuts" (walnuts in syrup). Everything was delicious! read more
Disclaimer: my review is not bias at all because we share a name. Nathan's is a Manassas staple and for good reason. Delicious ice cream, fast service, and reasonable prices. I do notice they have been affected by shrinkflation a little, comparing the size of the large pre-COVID and now - but that's just a sign of the times and not Nathan's fault. Be warned that lines can be long if you go during peak hours - but they move quick. Seating is limited, so don't expect a seat but be grateful if you can snag some. Nathan's is an excellent way to satisfy your ice cream cravings! read more

Since we moved to manassas, about 2 years ago, from March or April (depending on when they open) until thanksgiving my husband and I are here weekly or semi weekly stacking up on pints of our favorite flavors - Cookie Monster, Bessy's bakery and some random one offs, getting pup cups and of course stalking their fb page for when they have the fresh banana fresh strawberry soft serve combo. We love Nathan's. But that's probably an understatement. We tried other local soft serves & it just doesn't stand up. If you can't nail a vanilla, the most basic of flavors, what hope is there for the remaining. And their soft serve vanilla is almost more delicious than the chocolate and isn't that the truest taste test? In the mood for soft serve? They got you. They have their tried and true flavors (about 6-8) with an additional rotating flavor that changes every 3-4 days. In the mood for something a little more adventurous? Try their blue vanilla with crushed Oreos & cookie dough - the Cookie Monster. Or Bessy's Bakery: a brownie batter ice cream with cookie dough and choc chips. They're scooped flavors rotate as well on the same 3-4 day schedule. You can find a list of their flavors on their FB page posted daily. They'll even let you know when it's the last day of a flavor rotation! They deliver fast service even when the lines seem never ending by the time you get to the window the friendly cashier and knowing your ice cream is almost in reach never fails to put smile on your face. Why are you punishing yourself by not getting a delicious treat. Go try some of Nathan's ice cream already!! read more

Finally, a legit frozen custard place that actually has a proper thick custard consistency. Brilliant. Had the twist and both flavors were so good, so creamy and perfectly textured. I wish I had gotten a cone because this was the perfect licking consistency. I wanted to try the hard scooped flavors as well, tho, so I compromised with a cup - half Maple Walnut, half twist, with wet nuts as the topping. This was a topping I had never heard of, being from the West Coast, so I had to ask wtf it was because... wet nuts sounds like some sort of medical problem. But it is walnuts in maple syrup (prob maple flavored corn syrup, not real maple). My partner in ice crime got a Boston Shake (1/2 shake 1/2 sundae) crushed cherries shake, chocolate hardshell soft serve sundae on top. He would make different choices next time. The ratio of shake to sundae was too much shake to not enough sundae. He wasn't a fan of the flavor of their chocolate hardshell, which was lacking chocolate flavor, and just tasted waxy. He felt like he would have been better off just having the regular vanilla and chocolate twist in a cup. The line was long but moved quickly. We got a little rained on in early May, but it was delightful. They have a big patio section to sit and enjoy your treats in, but we escaped the wet, which was really starting to come down by the time we got out order, to the car. Service was super friendly and accommodating and very quick. Definitely so by when you're in the area and check out the mini golf next door while you're at it! read more

Nathan's has, hands-down, the best soft serve ice cream in all my years of consuming ice cream. The texture is soft and the flavors are on point. My little cousin used to stick his head through the window to get a whiff of the vanilla goodness. They have a large variety to select from and they're open to accommodations- for example I get the s'mores sundae and sub the hot fudge for chocolate sprinkles that way the ice cream doesn't melt as fast. During perfect weather, there's a huge line waiting for a bite of that cold, creamy heaven. The line goes by quickly and sometimes they'll even bring out samples while you wait, on especially loonnnng lined days. They close seasonally, so I sit here, impatiently waiting for their return. read more

They have dairy free options that are made out of almond milk
I'm considering to bring my 5 yr old here for dairy free ice cream. He's highly allergic to dairy and nuts, and I'm worried about cross contamination. Are the dairy free options truly dairy free? Can anyone comment and let me know? Thx in advance!
