I've been coming to this place for $1.00 taco Wednesdays for a while but just now getting around to reviewing it. It's a heck of a deal for their tacos! I've honestly not tried much else but everything always looks good and there's usually a long wait! I love the barbacoa and the al pastor. The chicken isn't great, I'd skip it, but the rest are amazing with the fresh cilantro and pico on top! Their guacamole is my kind of style! Chunky with lots of tomatoes, onions, and cilantro. Wow.. I haven't been in here in a few years -- what a transformation! Sure, it is your average Mexican grocery with a taqueria attached, but my last visit was a cramped confusing mess. The expansion was nice to see and the clerk was very helpful. Step 1: Make your way to the cash register and ask for a menu. Step 2: Place your order. (everything is crazy cheap) Step 3: Take your ticket to the kitchen window. Step 4: Wait for your order to be announced. Step 5: Enjoy your food! This place is amazing. We went there with friends and two of us sorta speak some Spanish. That wasn't necessary as the folks taking orders and making food for sure know enough english that a place like this is very approachable. Sometimes places that are authentic like this lack that, but this place covers that. They had good horchata, very good tacos and their chips were good too. The wife loved the green salsa, especially compared to some of the other "sorta authentic" places around. This is all the way authentic, all the way friendly, all the way clean, and is a go to for us now. Oh, close your eyes and imagine being in Mexico. For a good taco, huge burrito, or any of your mexican favorites, you've landed at the right spot. This place makes the very best tacos in town, in my humble opinion. You can't beat their salsa verde, made in house from scratch. While the food wins you over, the owners are welcoming and treat you like family. Brush up in your Spanish if you are skilled, but NO worries if you aren't. Spanish or English, you'll taste buds will be happy when your food arrives. Your ears will be graced with the Spanish language, from other patrons, the owners, and the television. Wednesdays are my favorite nights to go, mainly because of $1.00 tacos (includes chicken, pork, and steak). Handmade tamales made on the weekends. In the winter, they make warming soups that will invigorate and enliven you on dark winter days. Mouthwatering marinated meat (I typically order the 3 steak tacos) is like no other I've tasted outside of Mexico. These tacos are prepared using two corn tortillas, a sprinkle of queso, your choice of meat, and either cilantro, tomato, or lettuce (depending on meat selection). Yum!!! Add some salsa and enjoy! What's to drink? Horchata! REAL Coca-Cola (made with sugar instead of corn syrup). Jarritos (try the piña...pineapple). For bottles, there is a coincidently placed bottle opener secured to the wall. I need one of these things at home! Just so you know... You put your order in at the counter on your left (near the candy), then you take the ticket to the cooks (near the door). They'll call out your order for you to pick up. Be sure to pay when you're finished eating, it's easy to forget since no one will bring you a bill. Wow! Hidden gem! Don't let the location turn you off. It is extremely reasonable and extremely delish! We ordered 2 chicken tacos, 2 steak tacos and chips /salsa & queso. Since I've been in Indy I've constantly been on the hunt for bomb authentic tacos . This place was good but definitely missed the mark to be considered great. I tried the steak , chicken & carnitas taco . The steak and carnitas were somewhat flavorful but the meat was very dry . The chicken was super dry & void of any flavor. Aside from the sup par tacos the service was fast and friendly. This isn't a place I would visit if I was looking for good tacos but maybe I would visit on a late drunk night lol. read more

The tacos are amazing. Steak and chicken are both really good. I also had a gordita that was very tasty. The beans could be more flavorful but was still really good. Decor could be better and the way you order is a little odd. You go to the front counter, order, then take the ticket to the kitchen. Seating was uncomfortable and many booths were not clean. We now come to this place once a week at least. My husband will come more when I'm out of town. Tacos are the closest to street tacos we have found outside of Houston (and Mexico, obviously). We have tried the carnitas, asada, pastor, tripe and lengua. I do like the carnitas and asada the best. For Mexico's Independence Day they made mole. Not bad! The rice is made really well. I'm not a huge rice fan but this is good. Have also tried the torta Cubana and it is HUGE. Small place in a convenient store. You place your order at the check out counter in the store and then take the order to the kitchen. Beware that if you go in the evening on a week day they may be out of items since they can be a busy lunch spot. Owners are very friendly and we do enjoy coming here. read more

I always rate restaurants based on how well they execute what they set out to do. This place does a great job of being a tasty neighborhood taco and burrito shop. You get a generous amount of food for your money and I have yet to get anything I didn't like. My favorite is the barbacoa burrito but I like all of the tacos I've tried as well. It is attached to a little grocery store and ordering is a bit confusing because the check out counter is the same for both, but just ask and it's no big deal. Went with a friend whose family is from Mexico, and she said these are authentic Mexican tacos. Meat, chopped sautéed onions, and a sprinkling of cilantro. On Wednesdays, the price is reduced to like $1.50 per taco. Do not let looks deceive you! I drove by this place for years, and thought "nope!". It's attached to a gas station and the exterior is a little iffy. The ordering system is unique. You walk over to the grocery store side, order with and pay the cashier, then take your slip of paper over to the restaurant side, and put it in the window where the cooks are. I'm from Texas and I know a good taco when I see one. This place is the real deal- A small market/cafe tacked onto the side of a gas station. A delicious array of tacos, tostadas, tortas, etc. Everything is super cheap. I went there on Wednesday for the discount tacos (which are $1.25 a piece), but they are only 1.75 to begin with! What a steal. The guacamole was yummy as well. Of course they had 2 or 3 delicious hot sauces to pour all over everything. While you're waiting on your food you can walk over and buy some fresh tomatillos or poblanos in the market. I am definitely bringing more friends to check this place out. Next to a gas station wouldn't necessarily be my first thought for delicious mexican food...but I was wrong! I got large chorizo and steak quesadillas and a tongue taco both red and green sauces are delicious but have some heat. I had enough food for a couple meals and a snack. The outside is particularly unimpressive. You might be tempted to drive by...a few times. Tex-Mex is attached to a gas station. I've never eaten at a restaurant attached to a gas station. And honestly, the inside won't wow anyone either. Take out is a wise option. They serve authentic street tacos - your meat selection, onions (cooked not raw), & cilantro served on 2 small corn tortillas. I worked with a lady originally from Mexico and after eating here, she raved about it being "real" Mexican food. My favorite is the burrito made with the spicy pork with queso cheese on top. The spicy pork has some heat, but it's really more flavorful spicy than just hot spicy. The queso is superb! It comes in smallish cups when you order chips & queso. I asked about ordering a larger size, like a quart. Was told that you have to call at least a day ahead to place an order. They make it from scratch every day. You have to pay cash unless your order is over $25 or thereabouts. Prices are quite reasonable. Ordering is a unique experience. Walk in and go to the cashier. There is one menu taped to the counter. Tell the cashier what you want, pay up, & you'll be given a ticket. Walk back into the restaurant section to the kitchen window. Hand them your ticket. They'll soon call out your name. Take courage in hand, ignore how it looks, and try out Tex Mex and feast on some pretty awesome Mexican food . read more

Although initially the site can be kind of intimidating, having the juevos to go there will be worth it. For the rest of you gringos, let me spell out the process for you. First, you go to the convenience store counter and order (for me 2 steak + 1 carnita). Next, you will give the order sheet to the taco man at the counter where the magic happens. After you eat your food, you will go back to the convenience store counter to pay. 3 tacos typically runs me...say $4 (53 pesos), which is well worth it. I ask the chick for the menu she says we're closed, I say what do you mean you're closed she just said ask you for the menu. I've lived down the street from this place for over a year and I'm kicking myself over the fact that I've never tried it until now!! These are some of the BEST tacos I've ever had in my life. And I've eaten a loooot of tacos. When you get your order it's hot and absolutely filled with meat and toppings. The steak taco, al pastor taco, and chorizo taco that I had were incredibly flavorful. Between my boyfriend and I we got 6 tacos, two waters, and some snacks and only spent $19. It's unbelievable for the quality of the food. I'm probably going to eat here at least 3 times a week from now on. Also, definitely don't care that it's attached to a gas station. I like the steak or pork tacos; the chicken can be a bit dry. I always make mine a platter with rice & beans which are pretty basic here but still a must when I'm eating Mexican food.
