I took my sister here yesterday to celebrate her birthday. I made reservations for us and requested a booth. From what I could see, there is very limited booth seating available in the bar area, and I was happy that our request was honored. Our server, Alyssa, was extremely helpful and patient throughout our visit. We decided to go with a classic margarita pitcher ($45) and the Dinner for Two ($49). The dinner for two is a lot of food! It consists of one dip, two bocaditos, and 6 tacos. Alyssa was sure to acknowledge the note that I'd entered into OpenTable when I made the reservation. I let them know that we were celebrating a birthday and for that my sister was given a free shot for her birthday. It is the shot of the day and yesterday's was El Jimador Blanco. I ordered one as well. We chose the Short Rib Queso as our dip. We asked Alyssa for details and recommendations throughout our meal and she was very knowledgeable. She had advised us that their queso was very smoky. We thoroughly enjoyed the short rib queso. The tortilla chips were crisp and thin, but not too thin. They were able to stand up to the dip. As we progressed through the meal, I noticed that every single thing came out within minutes of us ordering them. Service was extremely fast. While we were still enjoying our drinks and the dip, we ordered our Bocaditos. We got the Carnitas Taquitos and the Esquites. The taquitos were crisp and delicious. Three came in the order. The esquites is a cold corn salad. I missed that in the description and was expecting a warm dish. That was my bad. It was okay, but I was expecting a warm, creamy dish, so I was a little disappointed. This portion of our meal also came out very quickly, so at this point, our table was covered with a variety of different dishes. We hit pause on the ordering at this point, but Alyssa continued to check in on us without rushing us. We advised her that we'd like to hold off until our pitcher was at least half gone and she obliged. By the time we ordered our tacos, our bellies were full. We ordered and then later asked for those to be packaged to-go. My sister, who had ordered two carnitas and one short rib taco, later told me that hers were yummy. I ordered one fish taco (amazing!), one short rib taco (delicious) and one al pastor taco (would've been good, but there were too many pineapple pieces). We had a great time. It was an amazing and fun atmosphere. It was rainy that day, but I could see us hanging on the enclosed patio area on an overcast, but not rainy day. Came here on a rainy Friday night. We had a reservation, but plenty of seating if you didn't. The staff were friendly, the atmosphere is a bit loud but fun. We got queso, salsa trio, and guacamole - all delicious! The chips are perfectly salted and crisp. The tacos are small and expensive, $4.50 each. They are good but worth the price? Not sure. So glad we stopped in. Probably the best Mexican food we've had in Indiana. Started with the esquites, a corn salad with cotija and cilantro, as dip for the chips (which were free and plentiful and good but you need to ask). Then tacos! Fish, Baja shrimp, pollo rojo, carnitas, and short rib. Every one was delicious. Our server, Keily (sp?) was wonderful. Friendly, helpful, attentive. Fish taco: 8/10 -- the crisp was amazing! wish it was a little saucy (maybe the white sauce that was on the chicken?) but still wow, with the hot sauce this was great!! Guac and chips: 9.3/10 -- delish!!! creamy and flavorful i looooved this guac down but i minus points bc the avocado was not fully mashed and i think the texture was a little off bc of it. would absolutely still come back and get this though. Classic virgin marg: 9/10 -- everything i love about a marg minus the tequila (sorry) yeah sign me up! Limited menu but it is clearly perfected. Tacos are $4.50 ea so it is easy to get a couple and try different flavors. Loved the concept and vibes inside but it was hard to take pics in the lighting. Low exposure is a camera setting not a light setting please add lamps (kind of joking loool) anyways.... so! Plenty of parking on mass ave and easy to walk over from most places downtown. Bakersfield is one of my favorite Indy Restaurants. The food is always top tier. You can't go wrong with their delicious margaritas and chips and guacamole. The salsa trio is another good appetizer. I love their pollo rojo, al pastor, and carnitas tacos. I've never had a bad experience at Bakersfield, I've celebrated birthday's here too and the staff always helps make it a memorable celebration. The inside is radiant, with a more moody basement with a bar. My personal favorite is the outside patio!! read more

If I had known they were as small as they were I would have probably gotten 3 instead of 2. The best thing here was the pineapple margarita, the vibe and the service. Highly recommend the pineapple margarita. I had high hopes for the short rib queso but it needed more short ribs and flavoring and also tasted like canned cheese. I then ordered the Baja shrimp taco and I believe a pulled pork taco. We have been here about four times now. Redemption each time from my first review. (I just realized I never hit up the manager for dinner he offered below) so they earned an upgrade. Dasha was our server tonight and was the best and most genuine server we have experienced in a very long time. Food was flavorful and drinks were great. We sat outside at tables which had a fun vibe. Another Yelper told me about Bakersfield's Tuesday taco special day. It is any taco for $3 each or $1.50 savings each. I did not realize that not only does the restaurant have outdoor, front eating area but also an enclosed, yet open sky, back patio. It is connected to The Oakmont restaurant. The concrete was a little slippery at the benched table with an umbrella. The restroom stall door was rustic metal. I ordered a short rib taco and tried a fish taco without slaw and with sauce on the side and add pineapple pieces. The flavor and quantity of the short rib were much better than the fish taco so I ordered 2 more short rib tacos but without creme and with pineapple bits. If I am in the neighborhood again on a Tuesday, I would definitely go back! read more

Really good Mexican restaurant on Mass Ave. the atmosphere is old brick, with some nice decoration on the wall. Just a great comfortable atmosphere. We were down in the downstairs section since we had a large group, they were very helpful. Our waitress was fantastic. She was so helpful took care of all of us. We had two people show up very late and she got with them right away and got them taken care of so that they got caught up with the rest of us. Food was really good. we had chips and their salsa trio as well as queso. A number of people got empanadas they were crispy and totally stuffed. And then most of the rest of us got some tacos variety of chicken, shrimp, pork, and one vegetarian. Olive more great. They were small, but they had tons of meat and other spices and additions. Perhaps my hottest take: like Thanksgiving dinner, the appetizers and sides were better than the tacos. The Papas Rancheras are killer. Best part of this is the deal where you can split a dip, 2 appetizers, and 6 tacos for 2 people.
