One might not expect much from a restaurant next to a gas station. Tex-Mex is a surprisingly good spot to eat. In a recent stop, the al pastor torta was my selection. The sandwich was well stuffed with nicely flavored pork and other toppings. While the interior has some signs of age, the place seems very clean and cared for. Even though interactions were minimal, the lady at the register had a kind personality, and the cook was quick to give an enthusiastic "thank you" when I left a tip by the pickup window. The place may not seem like much from the outside. Looks can be deceiving though. Tex-Mex is well worth trying. read more

This is an incredible hole in the wall place, please do not let the location deter you! The prices are incredible and the food is even better. The tacos are traditional street tacos, just like you would find in any good taqueria in Texas, and the burritos are extremely flavor full and giant (pro tip, get is covered in queso)! Please check this place out if you're look for some great tacos or Mexican food in general. A couple tips: 1.) you do have to order in the store area (to the left when you walk in) and not at the kitchen window that's right when you walk in, 2.) they only accept credit cards if you're order is more than $8, otherwise cash only, 3.) Today is #NationalTacoDay so of course you know I had to get tacos for dinner! I tried this place for the first time today and I will most definitely be back. I ordered takeout for 6 steak tacos, 2 sides of rice, 2 sides of beans and paid $21. Not too bad for 2 meals, not to mention the rice and beans were packed full. The tacos were smaller than I had expected, but they made up for it by including avocado along with grilled onions for no additional charge. The place was clean, the staff was very friendly and quick with my order which always makes my first-time experience much better. This spot is out of the way and unassuming (shares a parking lot and possibly a wall with a gas station) for us. But we've gone out of our way twice for these tacos. The carne asada and carnitas have been my favorite, but I haven't found a flavor I didn't like. Delicious, no frills Taco goodness. I live on the Southside and pass Tex-Mex everyday en route to work and only tried their grub recently. Don't be me. The taco shop is within a gas station and has an unassuming interior, and despite being "Tex-Mex" they do not serve overly cheese-loaded food but instead serve classic street tacos and street food. Now, you can get a burrito covered in queso, and the queso is top notch, but most options are more classic. I loved the Al pastor and tripa tacos; sadly no lengua for the foreseeable future due to inflated meat prices. Anyways, go now and eat inexpensive delicious tacos! This unique Mexican dining experience is definitely worth it for the price and the flavors. You order over in the grocery store, take your ticket to the window in the "restaurant", pick your food up from the window, sit down and eat it, then pay back in the grocery store. But don't worry, it's all connected. Staff was friendly, service was quick, tacos were flavorful, and it's cheap. They also have the really good Mexican soft drinks that are made with real sugar. YUM. All of the tacos I tried (steak, al pastor, beef) were delicious. I like that they come with different toppings depending on the type you order. Both the green and red hot sauces are great! I wouldn't order the guacamole again - it's more expensive and I didn't think it tasted very good, it was sort of bland. read more

I ordered the chips and salsa to meet the $8 minimum required to use a credit/debit card but I'm glad I did. I would have considered giving this place 4 stars, but even though it's a no frills place, I expect better service than I received. I found this gem while working on the a rental nearby and thank god!!. Its so unassuming and different. You walk in and order at the counter and then take your receipt to the hole in the wall. I love the steak tacos! Onions ,queso fresco ,avocado and fresh lime Yumm!! Very authentic so fresh and friendly staff every time. I've also had the steak burrito, awsome! If I liked meat, I might be about the $1 tacos but I don't, so I'm not. Honestly, I didn't try anything here, the vibe and feel of the place just really didn't appeal to me in any way. I didn't even want to wait around to get my goods to go, I just waltzed around the store, checked out the menu for the taco stand, and then hit the door. I was really disappointed with the store. It wasn't especially clean, the selection wasn't all that, and the produce was minimal. I guess I had it pretty good with Tienda Morales in my old hood. I don't like that it's attached to a gas station either. Maybe I'm biased against cars and gas and such, but so what. - it definitely affects my experience. They've got the really big tortillas you need for a ridiculous quesadilla or burrito and they've got Valentina hot sauce, if that matters (it does to me, obviously). My experience was super fast service and it can't get better than authentic made to order tacos. Food: The tacos are the way to go. They are so cheap and it is filled with meat. This little gem is a place that I would NEVER go to unless I was desperately hungry, which I was the first time I went here, and my word was I surprised. You want authentic Mexican food? Go here. Don't let the exterior scare you away. Tex-Mex has some of the best taco's and burritos that I've had in the city and it isn't pricey at all. Proportions are large and hearty. Seating is ample, with about 10 tables. And the service is fast. One of the coolest parts of this place though is that there is a little Mexican grocery store connected to it with authentic drinks, ice creams, condiments, etc. Only downside of this is that they have a mandatory $8 charge if you used a credit or debit card. Which is fine, I understand the fee's but sometimes it sticks that you can't just get some $2 tacos without having to get a few more. I have lived in fountain square for almost a year and a half and drove past the restaurant (attached to a gas station) frequently and I kept saying that if it looks like a hole in the wall it's probably authentic and delicious yet I still never tried it. I've honestly not tried much else but everything always looks good and there's usually a long wait! I love the barbacoa and the al pastor. Good tacos, giant burritos and of course don't forget the queso! This is not my favorite taco place in Indy but it's location is quick and easy for me which sometimes means the most. They serve authentic Mexican eats but I tend to stick to the basic Tex-Mex favorites such as tacos, quesadillas and burrito with chicken or beef.
