My kid said that this beef was very dry and chewy!

As freshman's parents, I am horrified by what food Tercero common provided to their students! From many UCD student videos, we learned food in Tercero might not as good as other 3 commons, but never thought in such low level! Can UCD management look into this common? Can they provide proper food for their students? Attached two pictures from two different days dinner.

I actually like it despite what other upperclassmen said. I ve been eating too much lately though. That s the problem with all you can eat. The food there is good most of the time. Sometimes it s not so gud at dinner. I like the pacific fusion. I also eat Bistro alot. The burgers and pizzas are just okay. I like the breakfast too omelette/eggs potato and porridge. It s good considered that it s school's and it s all you can eat!

When a college dining hall throws a themed dinner centered around HARRY POTTER, it is most definitely Yelp-worthy. Considering the amount of students they serve, I was impressed by the decorations and clever names used for the dishes. The food was absolutely nothing fancy at all. It had the classic dorm food taste, and I personally like Cuarto and Segundo better than Tercero as far as freshness, variety, and appeal goes. I was saddened that tonight, on a themed dinner night of all nights, the food was actually subpar. It was worse than their usual mediocre fare, which consists of: a grill with burgers and fries, pizza, pasta, salad bar, vegetarian/vegan options, soups, some type of ethnic food, desserts, cereal, and usually a fusion station (I once had an Asian burrito, just to illustrate the interesting concept). If you're not on a meal plan, it costs about $12 to have dinner here. There is a discount offered for UC Davis and UCDMC employees though! Also, students can use their swipes to get guests in. Decorations: You have to enter through Platform 9 3/4, of course (aka the entry doors covered in paper bricks)! I loved how they set up the different food stations to resemble a Quidditch playing field, Honeyduke's, & Dervish and Banges, to name a few. The ceiling had large white streamers emanating from the center, and they played Harry Potter music. Also, an employee had dressed up like Professor Trelawney! Extra points for her; she deserves a raise! I had Viktor's Bratwurst, which was served on a scoop of mashed potatoes. The sausage was greasy and still slightly pink on the inside, but the potatoes had excellent flavor. Nearly Headless Nick's Deathday Celebration Fish 'n' Chips (that's a mouthful!) came as an overly-greasy, limp piece of fried fish with a smattering of fries all rolled into a newspaper cone. I loved it for the adorable paper cone alone. I finished the meal with Harry Potter's Birthday Cake, which was basically a standard, not-from-scratch chocolate sheet-cake slice with a gummy worm on top. Don't forget the coconut macaroons that masquerade as Mad Eye Moody's Eyeballs, and Honeyduke's Licorice Wands, which were black and red licorice sticks dipped in chocolate on the ends. By the way, the Three Broomsticks Butterbeer they offered did not compare in any way whatsoever to the magical concoction you get in the real Harry Potter World in Florida. This was flat root beer that didn't have a hint of butterscotch at all. Ok, ok, maybe I had just a little too much fun tapping into my nerdy, Harry Potter-loving side during this dinner, but seriously, it's the closest you'll get to eating in Hogwarts in NorCal! If you really want to experience the best food that Tercero has to offer, I would not recommend coming to this themed dinner!

For all you can eat at several stations with great varieties of cultural cuisines and tons of choices from vegan to vegetarian to meats and more meats, I'd say this is a pretty good deal. We started with the Mongolian grill noodle station as there was already a line by the time we got to Segundo DC and we figured it would just get longer and longer. We waited about 15-20 minutes and each got our own bowl of grilled noodles with meat (but only chicken was available) and many different kinds of veggies. It tasted good, but somehow it also seemed healthier than the version at buffet places and at Mongolian BBQ restaurants elsewhere. Next, I made myself a salad and it was very fresh and full of different veggies and interestingly, they also had deli meats and hard boil eggs and other cooked meats such as grilled diced cubes of beef in this salad bar. So while it definitely had everything for vegan and vegetarian diners, it had plenty of choices for meat lovers too. On Saturdays, apparently not every station is opened, but the rotisserie station was available so I tried their rotisserie chicken next and it was very good. It was juicy, tender, roasted and seasoned to perfection. As for the dining experience besides the food, it's a dining common, but it was nicely laid out and the decor and color scheme throughout were calming and cool, not bad at all for a college dining hall. All in all, the Segundo DC is a pretty nice place to eat at and it sure beats the dining experience I had as an undergrad. These college students are eating well. I was impressed enough that I think we'll come back for another meal next time there's an event on the UC Davis campus.

SOOOOOO much better than before. VARIETY that is not Sodexo option 1 or Sodexo #2. (I think,…read moreanyways.) Pho, sushi, Tex-Mex and a bunch more options in one location on campus! FINALLY! So far, I've had just the pho and it actually had flavor to it which is something that university-related food just did not have before. Based upon just this one dish, I will return to try the others. I saw sushi sitting in a cooler- may not try that, but I hear there are tacos as well. Even Indian food somewhere! I'm very glad that there are OPTIONS now and not just prepackaged/refrigerated choices. Probably would have stayed on campus much more often had this been present back in my Aggie days. Site of future lunch dates. For sure. Current Aggies: you are SPOILED with this variety at the MU. "Back in my days here..." ;-) So cash is archaic I guess. They take cards and wireless payments now. Maybe cash if you ask really nicely.

It's a large open space and I liked the windows and the high ceilings - could definitely see it being a nice hangout spot. I got a lavender foam topped cold brew which seemed to be a seasonal special since I love lavender flavored coffees, but the foam didn't really provide creaminess or sweetness to the cold brew which was quite strong and bitter. Mixing it didn't really help either and the foam curdled a bit and I ended up not really being able to taste the lavender because it got overwhelmed by the cold brew. I think I probably just picked poorly but I can't say I really enjoyed my drink - perhaps a latte next time!
