Another waiter noticed and quickly brought us water which was kind of them. Food: We ordered La Bella Del Bosco, the carbonara, and Fruitti De Mare. The salad was quite good. We loved the fatty pancetta balance d with the balsamic glaze. However the bread was served cold, the carbonara was dry and lacked flavor. I am shocked that Mamma does not have a higher rating on Yelp. We had a proposal dinner here. They have a lovely back room for reservations that we used. I met two of their workers - Mia and Nicole - who were so pleasant to work with. Mia did a great job serving us the whole night for every need. I do plan on returning to try their High Noon Tea Service in the future! The Spaghetti Bolognese was alright; the red meat sauce was a bit watery/juicy at the bottom of the bowl. When they bring it out they grate a fresh block of parmesan on top for as much as you want (I asked for a lot cause I love cheese!). The noodles felt dry to me and paired with the wet sauce was an interesting combo, overall I would rate this dish a 3/5. The complimentary focaccia bread with oil & vinegar was deliciously warm and flavorful, a 5/5. Since I came on an early Sunday afternoon they were still serving brunch items so I ordered the Deep Fried Banana Pudding Fritters. In the first picture you can see they accidentally forgot the Crème Anglaise, when I mentioned they were very quick to take it back and fix it. The crème did make the fritters taste better as they were dry on their own. Despite being deep-fried the inside still had the bread pudding texture. Overall, a great sweet treat though I would've loved more Crème on top as it can be very dry and the Crème made it sweeter. I would rate this dish 4/5. Once you finish your meal they box your items for you in all eco-friendly containers. When I was greeted at the door by the hostess and had questions about the menu, the customer service was fantastic, 5/5. It really shown when they were apologetic and quick to fix the mistake with the Fritters too. Only free, street parking and in this area it's very busy and most if not all of the street parking is 2 Hours only (except Holidays & Sundays). This is a very big place with lots of outdoor and indoor seating. The indoor seats are all hardwood with no cushions, pretty standard on the comfort-level, can be uncomfortable after sitting for a long while. There is music playing at a medium sound level so not too loud/hard to hear conversation. The ambiance is nice and casual to spend a good time with friends or family. The bathrooms are 5/5: I only went in the Women's restroom but it has 4 separate toilet stalls, very clean inside, and 3 sinks with a large mirror. The sinks have both hot or cold water, careful on the hot as it can get pretty scalding. There is a changing station and paper towels to dry your hands. I recommend going if you're looking for a place to sit down for awhile and enjoy a nice, warm meal. Overall 4/5. read more

However, the flavors were much more robust during today's visit. Their menu appears to be slightly overhauled and was very pleased. During my visit I got the lamb pappardelle had good flavor without the gaminess you can find in lamb. Osso Bucco was not salty at all and had very good texture. Value: Good value for money when considering the ambiance of the restaurant. I think it's a great spot for a semi-casual get-together or date spot. As a ~190 pound male, I was quite full having one entre and one appetizer. Bread: They seem to have revamped their bread recipe. It was OK before but quite good now! Service: really good! Food took a little long to get out but service was very attentive. Our server (Makai? I think), was really great and attentive. I was really impressed that he caught that we left one of our personal forks (for the kids) on a plate he was taking away. The location has the best patio seating in Davis to relax and chat. I was pretty pleased with my spritz and the appetizers. We got the calamari and the burrata cheese. There were large shrimp with the calamari, good portions for three people and fresh. The cheese was okay but I was good carb-loading sharing with others. Tomatoes were pale/not heirloom but they're also not in season. Curious if the quality of tomato would change once they are in season locally. As a gardener, the quality of the tomato makes or breaks caprese! I got a spicy pasta entry, can't recall the name. It was not worth it, both price and taste. Just a but uninteresting. Mamma Eatery is an Italian restaurant that features a gorgeous (and enormous) patio as well as a beautiful interior to eat in. It's certainly a place to go to if you're looking for a beautiful evening out on the town. I came on a Sunday afternoon for some lunch with a party of 6. We had kids with us so we were able to see how Mamma is as a family restaurant. We had initially wanted to sit outside, but our party was a little too large for the outdoor section. I'm not sure if they had larger tables for a group of 6 outside, but most seemed to cap out at 4. It wasn't a problem though as the table we had inside was plenty large and was spacious. It was comfortable and the kids had plenty of room to spread themselves out. Mamma's menu does feature a little kids section that includes a nice pizza amongst a couple of other items. The pizza comes with a drink and a vanilla ice-cream for dessert. For a nice price the kids actually get quite a bit of food. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the kids pizza. All the adults wanted to dig into it too! As for the adults, we were given some complimentary bread with oil and balsamic. The bread was hot and fresh and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Unfortunately, our food did take a while to come out and I did notice that a large party seated well after us had gotten their food well ahead of us. That was a little bit of a bummer as we were hungry! But thankfully when the food did arrive it was very good. The veggie pizza my friend shared with me had a delightfully thin crust that was packed with flavor. I typically am not a veggie pizza guy, but this pizza had flavor for days. My main meal was a fusilli pasta dish. The flavor of the sauce was good as well as the portion, but I found the sauce to be a bit too watery for my liking. It wasn't terrible, but I expected a creamier texture than what was given to me. I mentioned that the kids portions were of a good size... well... so were the adult entrees. The place is BS, and actively dissuade people from coming to enjoy coffee and work despite being at 20% occupancy. I've been here a few times for dinner with friends and my partner, and I have also organized a few coffee and writing sessions with colleagues. The food here is overpriced and isn't to die for, the wine has cork particles, and the cups aren't always clean - but those alone do not warrant the 1 star. The behavior of the passive aggressive manager that runs the breakfast area is the reason for the 1 star. I organize a writing session with colleagues, and I thought we would be welcomed given how empty the place is every Friday morning. The desk seating is also very nice, and there are a few outlets for those with older computers that can't hold a charge. My friends and I often each get 1-3 drinks, and the pancakes look tempting. What deterred me were the manager's passive aggressive messaging against those who use this space to work. Here's a list. 1) The manager said the quiet part out loud when she boasted that they INTENTIONALLY turn off the WIFI to try to kick those who are working out. 2) The manager wanted us to leave even though the place was 80% empty, and has repeatedly said out loud (but did not actually tell us) that customers should be limited to 2 hours. We usually write for 3 hours, but fine - I'll get food elsewhere since you're being a jerk. There's also no signage anywhere in the store, nor were we ever told. 3) The manager came over to tell us to not plug into the outlet - claiming it would trip the machines in the back . Again, no signage. I gave the place multiple chances, and I am disappointed that a place that could use the customers is actively deterring paying customers. I would like to mention the rest of the staffs were incredibly kind, but the ridiculous attitude and BS policy means we will not be returning. read more

While I enjoy the pasta and pizza, I come here more for the fall off the bone tender osso bucco which is the only pork shank dish featured regularly in local restaurants. The pesto crusted cod is another favorite. There is something for everyone in the large menu. The many shade trees and umbrellas make the large patio comfortable in the summer. It is not often that Davis invites new restaurants into this town that I have loved for 8 years. And it's not often that I send food back to the kitchen, feeling utterly disgusting by what was served to me. In fact I never have. Nor have I posted a 1 star review. I am finally breaking my silence because not to do so would be irresponsible. My girlfriend was excited to try Mamma because its menu advertised an authentic carbonara: pasta cooked in guanciale and tossed in seasoned egg yolks. It's tough to find good carbonara in the west (outside of my girlfriend's kitchen). Imagine our profound disappointment when we received a plate of dry, lukewarm pasta topped with applewood smoked bacon (the kind you can pick up for 5 bucks at a Safeway). Not any egg yolk in SIGHT. The Al Ragu over Penne was served with "beef" that looks like it was spooned out of a dog food can. Lukewarm and utterly appetite-killing. I could go on about miss-mixed drinks, flat "focaccia" served with costco salami, and the general atmosphere of the place. It's one thing to cut corners, it's another to try and trick the people of Davis into accepting reheated supermarket fare as authentic Italian food. I won't stand for it. read more

Salmon: 5/5 - crispy skin, succulent and flavorful. - the salad that came with it was pretty awesome too. - I know I'm a big man, and the portion was fine, I would've liked an additional filet (not for $28 and some change) or more of the salad, not a ding, just a thought. This restaurant is the perfect addition and is exactly what was missing in Downtown Davis. It has such a nice and bright atmosphere perfect for a cute date or a wine night at their bar inside. Their prices are unbeatable for the quality of the Italian food they're serving as well! We ordered the burrata to start and it came with free focaccia! The combination of the bread, peppers, burrata, and salami was absolutely perfect. It was full of flavor and the perfect way to start off our dinner. For entrees, we ordered the Boscaiola Penne Pasta and Michael's Pepperoni Pizza. SO glad we had a chance to visit Mamma. We sat at the bar, since it has been very busy this opening week, but the bar offers full food service, and was available immediately. The bartenders were super fun, talkative, and definitely knew what they were doing. But the food was the main event. I am a huge fan of thin crust pizza, but this pizza was still Some of the best I've had. It was freshly made, and if you have a table close enough you can even see the oven! The Quattro Formaggi cheese sauce for the pasta was unlike any I've ever had or made, and was absolutely mind-blowing. Flavorful, sharp, creamy and a slight tang from the Gorgonzola and Pecorino. I can't wait to come back and try their other dishes. My partner and I also agreed that the bar was a great setting for a slightly faster dinner, which was exactly what we wanted since we had tickets to a movie after. You still had a view of the restaurant, including the art, the kitchen (from a ways away), although I would also love to have a chance to sit outside on their patio - where they are growing their own tomato plants! In my honest opinion, unbelievably mid. We were a large party and got seated pretty quickly - it was summer time in Davis so it's pretty dead. We were sat in the back near the fireplace oven and it was so hot in there LOL we had to request the AC to be turned on and they had to give us little fans. Well actually the Marg pizza was good but how hard is it to make tomato sauce and cheese and basil taste good. I ordered the lasagna and I was ... underwhelming. The lasagna pasta sheets were made in house and they were THICK im talking not thin as they should be. It tasted chewy was undercooked. The meat sauce was not bad - could have had more meat but good flavor overall. I tried my friends dish with the spaghetti + chicken and it was mehhhhh. They basically have 4 seating areas: the restaurant, the bar, the patio and the patio next to the bar. A problem is that for some reason they don't provide any service to the patio next to the bar, which really doesn't make sense. So if you want to sit over there, you have to order at the bar and the food choices are limited; they don't give you any napkins or anything else so I'm not really sure why they even bother having this area. It seems kind of ridiculous to set up an area of your restaurant but not provide any service to it. This is such a nice restaurant...it has a lot of seating both indoor and outdoor. The food is excellent. My daughter and I had the Penne Pasta with Pesto and the pesto was so creamy with mushrooms. The portion was large enough to share. The came with fresh bread coated in seasoning, and olive oil with a side of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. And the Affogato was excellent! Our server graciously poured the espresso so I could get a video. Overall it was a really nice experience, and we will be back! read more

What a lovely time at Mamma Eatery. Drinks at the bar first, until our table was ready. I loved the glass of Cabernet, & the chilled glass for my husband's beer. My food was delicious, starting with the house salad & the focaccia bread that I could dip in olive oil. The pear & pancetta pizza was wonderful, & I topped it off with chili oil. Yum. You could even see chilis on the bottom of the oil. So good. Thank you! read more
