    Bread Pudding Fritters with Crème
    Michelle Y.

Food: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Seating: 4/5 Parking: 3/5 Bathroom: 5/5 I would like to warn that I am not a Davis local and this was my first time visiting. I do plan on returning to try their High Noon Tea Service in the future! The Spaghetti Bolognese was alright; the red meat sauce was a bit watery/juicy at the bottom of the bowl. When they bring it out they grate a fresh block of parmesan on top for as much as you want (I asked for a lot cause I love cheese!). The noodles felt dry to me and paired with the wet sauce was an interesting combo, overall I would rate this dish a 3/5. The complimentary focaccia bread with oil & vinegar was deliciously warm and flavorful, a 5/5. Since I came on an early Sunday afternoon they were still serving brunch items so I ordered the Deep Fried Banana Pudding Fritters. In the first picture you can see they accidentally forgot the Crème Anglaise, when I mentioned they were very quick to take it back and fix it. The crème did make the fritters taste better as they were dry on their own. Despite being deep-fried the inside still had the bread pudding texture. Overall, a great sweet treat though I would've loved more Crème on top as it can be very dry and the Crème made it sweeter. I would rate this dish 4/5. Once you finish your meal they box your items for you in all eco-friendly containers. When I was greeted at the door by the hostess and had questions about the menu, the customer service was fantastic, 5/5. It really shown when they were apologetic and quick to fix the mistake with the Fritters too. Only free, street parking and in this area it's very busy and most if not all of the street parking is 2 Hours only (except Holidays & Sundays). This is a very big place with lots of outdoor and indoor seating. The indoor seats are all hardwood with no cushions, pretty standard on the comfort-level, can be uncomfortable after sitting for a long while. There is music playing at a medium sound level so not too loud/hard to hear conversation. The ambiance is nice and casual to spend a good time with friends or family. The bathrooms are 5/5: I only went in the Women's restroom but it has 4 separate toilet stalls, very clean inside, and 3 sinks with a large mirror. The sinks have both hot or cold water, careful on the hot as it can get pretty scalding. There is a changing station and paper towels to dry your hands. I recommend going if you're looking for a place to sit down for awhile and enjoy a nice, warm meal. Overall 4/5.

Went to Mamma's for Mother's Day Brunch. A short but tasty brunch menu. Brioche Caramel French Toast, Seasonal Frittata and a "Messy Stack". Libations for over the age and lemonade for the little ones. Housed in the former City Hall, evokes the feel of an Italian Villa, lots of plaster and exposed wood. Large patio seating area with lots of greenery. Indoor seating around an expansive bar in the front and behind the bar seating backs up to a mb open kitchen. Wait staff friendly and efficient. Will definitely plan on a return visit for dinner.

Absolutely adored this Italian restaurant! The outdoor patio seating was beautiful and a great ambiance. Although I didn't get to seat inside, the infrastructure was interesting. The calamari app, salmon linguine, seafood pasta, and carbonara pasta was a 10/10. My drink was not my preference but no worries. Our server also was so sweet and gave spectacular service, she even served a cookie desert for my friends bday! Beware of parking though, on weekends it's tough finding close parking for this location.

We got wine and deserts. The service was friendly and attentive. The wine was subpar, the glasses we originally wanted were strictly bottle only. The free bread was unexpected but very yummy! We got the Panna Cotta, Crème Brûlée, and an Affogato. My favorite was the Panna Cotta. The crème brûlée and the Affogato were decent. I liked the additional espresso shots with the affogato. I would return for another Panna cotta.

WOW!!! We were driving by this location on our way to another eatery when our eye was captured by the beautiful outdoor seating area. We decided to try it and were so happy we did. The food is family style Italian sized servings at a reasonable price. Service is amazing and they offer perfect suggestions on how to course your meal out and different options to keep your pallet engaged. A must try when in Davis!

We walked in on a Friday evening, and managed to snag a seat at the bar, since the restaurant was getting ready to close for a private event. I'm so glad we were able to sneak in! Service was great and food was fantastic. We had a pizza and a pasta, and both were incredible. They also serve complimentary fresh focaccia that is to die for! I cant wait to come back!

Updated on 6.8.2024, jump from a 3.5 to 4.5 stars! Summary: Revisited Mamma Eatery for lunch on a Saturday. Food has improved, pasta texture is better, flavors were more robust. If you previosuly visited and were not impressed, it's worth a revisit! Flavors: Previously, I found the pasta a little bland and needed more salt. However, the flavors were much more robust during today's visit. Their menu appears to be slightly overhauled and was very pleased. During my visit I got the lamb pappardelle had good flavor without the gaminess you can find in lamb. Osso Bucco was not salty at all and had very good texture. Value: Good value for money when considering the ambiance of the restaurant. I think it's a great spot for a semi-casual get-together or date spot. As a ~190 pound male, I was quite full having one entre and one appetizer. Bread: They seem to have revamped their bread recipe. It was OK before but quite good now! Service: really good! Food took a little long to get out but service was very attentive. Our server (Makai? I think), was really great and attentive. I was really impressed that he caught that we left one of our personal forks (for the kids) on a plate he was taking away. It would've been a headache to come back and find it once it was taken away so I really appreciate it! Conclusion: if you tried it before and weren't impressed, I would say to come back and try again. If you haven't tried before and are looking for a semi-casual nice Italian food spot, come and give it a try!

I had drinks, appetizers, and an entree here with a couple friends. First time trying Mamma. We chose it mostly for the patio seating to enjoy the warmer weather. The location has the best patio seating in Davis to relax and chat. I was pretty pleased with my spritz and the appetizers. We got the calamari and the burrata cheese. There were large shrimp with the calamari, good portions for three people and fresh. The cheese was okay but I was good carb-loading sharing with others. Tomatoes were pale/not heirloom but they're also not in season. Curious if the quality of tomato would change once they are in season locally. As a gardener, the quality of the tomato makes or breaks caprese! I got a spicy pasta entry, can't recall the name. It was not worth it, both price and taste. Just a but uninteresting. I wish I had ordered another appetizer to share instead of the pasta dish. Overall, I would definitely come back for drinks and appetizers, but wouldn't stay for a full dinner/entree. Great ambiance, servers were attentive, and presentation was good. Glad to have the option in David amidst all the places that cater more to the students.

The start of the experience didn't start well . Nobody was at the hostess station and it was about a 10 minute wait. After that things got much better... Our waitress was very sweet and checked on us frequently. Our bread was served quickly and was quite delicious. Our appetizer was the burrata and was delicious. We both got salads and they were huge. One was shrimp and the other one was salmon protein on the Italian Farmhouse salad. The restaurant look cute with its red front door and wasn't too noisy. I would definitely return.

Mamma Eatery is an Italian restaurant that features a gorgeous (and enormous) patio as well as a beautiful interior to eat in. It's certainly a place to go to if you're looking for a beautiful evening out on the town. I came on a Sunday afternoon for some lunch with a party of 6. We had kids with us so we were able to see how Mamma is as a family restaurant. We had initially wanted to sit outside, but our party was a little too large for the outdoor section. I'm not sure if they had larger tables for a group of 6 outside, but most seemed to cap out at 4. It wasn't a problem though as the table we had inside was plenty large and was spacious. It was comfortable and the kids had plenty of room to spread themselves out. Mamma's menu does feature a little kids section that includes a nice pizza amongst a couple of other items. The pizza comes with a drink and a vanilla ice-cream for dessert. For a nice price the kids actually get quite a bit of food. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the kids pizza. All the adults wanted to dig into it too! As for the adults, we were given some complimentary bread with oil and balsamic. The bread was hot and fresh and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Unfortunately, our food did take a while to come out and I did notice that a large party seated well after us had gotten their food well ahead of us. That was a little bit of a bummer as we were hungry! But thankfully when the food did arrive it was very good. The veggie pizza my friend shared with me had a delightfully thin crust that was packed with flavor. I typically am not a veggie pizza guy, but this pizza had flavor for days. My main meal was a fusilli pasta dish. The flavor of the sauce was good as well as the portion, but I found the sauce to be a bit too watery for my liking. It wasn't terrible, but I expected a creamier texture than what was given to me. I mentioned that the kids portions were of a good size... well... so were the adult entrees. We definitely couldn't finish the dishes that we ordered because they were big portions. In all, Mamma is a fantastic restaurant that I'm sure I'll revisit again!

Quite amazing actually! Service and ambience great. Came here at night and it wasn't so busy. Everything was delicious although we definitely had our favs. If you're fond of white sauce, i recommend: Parma Chicken, Da Vinci Cod, Potato Salsiccia Pizza. If you're fond of the red sauce, i recommend: Milanese Chicken, which seems to be really popular here. Overall, would come back here again. The chili sauce they offer is just the perfect amount of spice!

While I enjoy the pasta and pizza, I come here more for the fall off the bone tender osso bucco which is the only pork shank dish featured regularly in local restaurants. The pesto crusted cod is another favorite. There is something for everyone in the large menu. The many shade trees and umbrellas make the large patio comfortable in the summer. The AC inside is at a minimum Arctic rated.

    Chicken milanesa

The food was amazing. And even though they were really busy the service was good. Portions are huge! So prepare to get a "doggie bag" We had the oso buck, the chicken milanesa, and the vodka chicken pasta. Also the bread was freshly baked and it was delicious. Caesar salad and the minestrone soup are fantastic. The whole vibe is great and the place is beautiful, well lit and the patio is welcoming and inviting

    Yes. Every day.

Please be honest, how is the lasagna?

Actually, we were really pleasantly surprised with how good the lasagne was. I make Lasagna at home, so it takes a lot for me to spend $20 on a restaurant slice--but we thought it was quite good!

    Yes.

    Do you take cash?

Yes! We take all forms of payment including Apple Pay and Cash :)

What vegan options do you offer?

There are no good vegan options here and no substitutions.

    Do they take reservations?

Yes Dorothy for parties of 6 or more! Pls call our front desk at 530-298-1004

Do they serve gluten-free pasta or pizza?

    There is gluten-free pasta

Do you have a patio happy hour? If yes, is it dog friendly?

They don't have a happy hour yet, but everything is very reasonably priced! They allow dogs on the patio.

That said, our experience was noticeably impacted by the host. From the moment we walked in, interactions felt more focused on what we couldn't do rather than helping us feel comfortable or welcomed. I was initially told my dog wasn't allowed, which was later clarified when I explained he is a service animal, but subsequent interactions continued to feel corrective rather than hospitable. It stood out because every other staff member we interacted with was warm, social, and inviting, which made the contrast pretty stark. One practical note for future guests: if you order wine, plan to finish it there. They do not offer cork-and-carry, so splitting a bottle only really works if you're prepared to drink a good amount on-site. I'm rooting for this place and hope this feedback is helpful. With a small adjustment in front-of-house approach, this could easily be a fantastic addition to the local bar scene.

As my son is screaming and heaving a full meltdown over shoes now, the manager continues to apologize because there were possibly glass shards on the ground in his restaurant. The dish itself was just OK, it was a bit too sweet, I guess from the coconut milk. The portion size was good, I'll get an additional meal from the leftovers. My friend had the Pad Kee Mow and she graded it "A". Perhaps I made the wrong choice or am more finicky about my food. After eating the waiter came by holding a tablet saying he could take payment. He didn't show us the totals, just said we could give him our credit cards. We did so and we each asked for a printed receipt. When I got my receipt I saw there were two totals, one for cash and the other for credit (worked out to be a 3% fee.) That was never mentioned, neither by the waiter nor by the menu. I usually pay by cash but when the waiter said he'd take our cards, I assumed that was the preferred payment method.

I asked the bartender lady and she pretty much verified that it gets nutso in there on weekends. This bar has lots of tables and multiple rooms,so they have capacity for many people. They have multiple pool tables and video games in the back room, along with an entirely separate bar back there. They have a big screen projector screen and many small TVs along the bar to accommodate anyone wanting to watch any live sporting event. The Happy Hour here is pretty solid as well,$5 drinks were available. I heard the food here is pretty decent but we weren't here for that-maybe next time. My favorite part of this bar though easily was the bartender-She was such a breath of fresh air,so much personality and her hockey knowledge was amazing-she really made my visit to this bar quite enjoyable. In closing, If you ever find yourself in downtown Davis and need to kill some time or just want a quick drink, don't hesitate to drop by G Street Wunderbar-it's a good time.

Stopped in for a beer and loved the atmosphere of this place…read more It was early yet so place was pretty empty. Seemed like a nice variety of draft beers to choose from but the drafts werent working so I settled for a bottle of Lucky Buddha. Plenty of TVs with sports on, and in the back, another large area that had older video games, some pool tavles and some electronic dartboards in the corner. There is a BBQ inside that had some dishes I want to go back and try. I can see myself easily coming into this place to hang out for a couple hours and having a good time

I've been around Davis long enough to see this building go through 3 different names!…read more We heard that as its current name it had great food so we decided to try it out. We got there right at opening and the server/hostess, Aurora, greeted us with a warm smile and welcome. There are two choices of spots to sit at - low tables/booths or high top tables with stools. We opted for a low table. I ordered the Pulled Pork Grilled Cheese sandwich with sweet potato fries and my friend ordered the Chinichurri Tri-Tip sandwich with a side salad. When our meals came out, we were pleasantly surprised by the portion sizes! I feel like I had a lot of fries on my plate and the sandwich was stuffed with meat! The side salad and tri-tip was pretty hefty too. My sandwich was DELICIOUS! I was only able to eat half so I left with half for lunch the next day. My friend was the same. I love when I can get two meals out of one!! The restaurant carries a very fun vibe. I can imagine it is so lively when it is packed! There is an area in the back that gives off a speakeasy vibe. Overall, awesome restaurant! Great food, awesome service and chill vibe.

The Cowboy Cuban is the next best thing I've found on the menu and worth ordering. The house dressing is excellent too. The Down the Hatch burger was decent, just didn't have quite enough flavor for my taste -- not a reason to skip the place, but I'd go Cowboy Cuban first. Love coming with the dog when weather permits.

Instead, our experience was ruined by the owner, Gordon Langstaff, and his completely inappropriate behavior around a small child. My son, who is three and on the autism spectrum, briefly picked up a loose electrical cord that was lying on the ground under the patio stairs (I have a photo of how exposed it was). Instead of calmly addressing the situation, Gordon walked over in a rude, irritated tone and said, "Can you do something?" I told him I was already handling it and redirecting my son, but as he walked away he started cursing under his breath, using foul language that was clearly audible right next to my child. There is no excuse for swearing like that in front of a three‑year‑old, especially when the unsafe cord was left out in the open by the restaurant in the first place. Whether or not my son is autistic, families should never be subjected to hostility and foul language from the owner of a restaurant. If you offer outdoor seating and leave cords and other hazards accessible, you should expect children to be curious and respond with basic courtesy, not anger. The food itself was mediocre, and after that interaction it honestly didn't matter. This was supposed to be a special birthday outing, and his attitude and language completely ruined it.
