She's really nice, however, my cardigan is ruined because the drink has blueberry/raspberry in it and my cardigan was turquoise. I was sad that she didn't comp the drink at the end of the night. Also, she didn't really help me clean up either. That was an unfortunate story. regardless, the jicama shrimp tacos were delicious and light. duck tacos were also great with the sauce. Salmon tacos were salty, wouldn't recommend it. I haven't tried the carnitas yet. other dishes are in the $15-20 range a plate. First things first this was a great experience. Great environment, great music! My friends wife got the ceviche and said it tasted just like grandmas back home in Mexico. The waiter was great. Food came out and the carnitas were by far the best I've ever had in my life. And this peculiar time we were there slash. Covid policies Menu is slightly altered and they didn't have the salmon. Food was decent - the tuna tartare is excellent. Vegan curry was just ok - not out of this world. What a great place... I called Pablo at 5pm and asked if he could seat 25 that night. Super helpful and got my team squared away. Alex took great care of us and the good was really good. Beautiful looking place! Table for two who ordered tapas, beers, and tacos. Salmon Tacos -A mixture I wasn't expecting in my Tacos with fried onions, salmon, pineapple. It was very delicious but it didn't come with sauce in or out of the taco and was on the drier side. Would be much more better with a sauce added to it Jicama Tacos -Very different as the jicama is the actual tortilla so to speak. It's very delicious but it gets very wet. If it were taken to go it would definitely not last. The misses loved the Tacos and I thought it was just way too messy. Popcorn Shrimp -Very delicious and it actually makes you forget you're actually eating shrimp for a second. It has a taste more of a orange chicken but I thought it was filling and delicious! Chorizo Empanadas -The best plate of the night and served as tapas, comes with two sauces both of which are delicious. Decent serving for two and would've ordered more in a heartbeat It was filling for a couple of tapas and Tacos. The two beers that I ordered were delicious and were in the cutest cups! The menu had a great range of cocktails / margaritas and so did the dinner menu. Our server Ivana was very nice and attentive to whatever we had needed. It's a bit on the pricier side which is why the 4 stars. If it wasn't for the damn ice cream joint across the street I would've had the horchata cornbread in front of me but the misses was craving cornbread. I was recently talking to my sister about my favorite Mexican restaurants from all the places we've visited, and I started describing this place but I couldn't remember the name. I finally found it! We came in on a Friday afternoon in a rush since we had to be at the airport in a few hours. Service was quick. We ordered a bunch of small plates and shared: some tacos, empanadas, ceviche, and of course dessert (although I can't remember what the desserts were anymore). But anyways, I loved the presentation of the food, super cute! I was definitely not expecting to find amazing Mexican food in Anchorage, and when I travel I try to stay away from it because I have plenty inside my own home lol, but I'm so glad we made an exception and stopped in here! read more

This is my 4th time going to Tequila 61. Normally I don't have any problems going to this restaurant. The food is great, and you can't beat the 1/2 off Tacos on Tuesday! So it's Tuesday and the tacos and drinks were good like usual. But the service was off. I rarely order dessert, but decided to order it tonight. I think I sat there for 20 minutes before I asked for my check because my dessert never came. The server said, "Oh! You never got it?" She never apologized. She just handed me my check. I'm disappointed that she never checked on me after I ordered it and she only came up to me because I had to let another server know that my dessert never came. It's unfortunate small details like this can change your attitude about a restaurant. read more

We went there for dinner last night after looking through google maps for some various options. Decided on this place because it had decent reviews and looked nice inside. So glad we did. First of all, the decor and restaurant in general is beautiful inside. Once we were sat (which was quick since it was a Tuesday night off season), the staff took care of us wonderfully. The service here is FANTASTIC. Our waitress was great and fun to talk with, and the hostess was helpful too. We wanted to take a picture in front of the sign as you walk in, and she stopped what shew as doing to come offer to take the picture for us (we were taking a selfie). The food was delicious too. The only thing that would have made this experience perfect was if they had Tapatio, but even without it, the food was great. Modelo on Tap with some tacos made me feel like I was right at home. Husband and I went here last night for a date night. We have really wanted to try this place and last night we finally were able to. Walked in and was immediately seated. About 7 mins later the server came by and said that she would be with us in a min. About 5 mins after that she came by and said that it would be another min. Finally after another 5 mins she finally came by and said she would get us water. I went ahead and ordered the stuffed mushrooms for an appetizer. Mushrooms came out quickly and were hot which was great. A different server or a runner brought those out to us. They tasted wonderful. Unfortunately, for $9 you get 6 tiny mushrooms. Another unfortunate is that our server, Baylee, has still not come back to take our order until after we finished our appetizers. We should have just gotten the check at this point and left. My husband and I decided to try all of the skewers. They had beef, chicken, shrimp and veggie. All of those together were $39 plus we added 2 orders of beans and rice to round out the meal. I'm not kidding when I tell you it took almost an hour to get 3 of the 4 skewers. The server dropped 3 of the plates off without saying anything so I assumed that she was going back for the last plate and the rice and beans. Nope. She was over at another table chatting. The food was already lukewarm when we got it. We waited 10 more mins for the last skewer and the rice and beans. The food was good. However, when you picture a skewer you picture a couple of pieces of meat on that skewer. Nope. There literally was a 2" strip of meat on each. They could have used a toothpick and had plenty of space on each side. Each plate had 4 skewers. The veggie skewers had 1 slice of zucchini, 1 piece of mushroom, a small piece of artichoke and a small piece of tomato. You would think $40 worth of food would amount to more than you can eat. Especially when you add rice and beans. Btw, don't order the rice and beans. No flavor. I would compare the beans to canned but they at least have more flavor. I never salt my food but I had to use a ton on the rice and beans. Alas we spent $60 and had to go home and make a sandwich. The only reason this is receiving 2 stars is because the skewers actually tasted nice. At least what there was of it. I can say my experience was much nicer than for the couple across from us. They ordered their meal before we got there. They finally got it about 5 mins before we left. read more

Tasty tacos! This is my second time here, both times for their Taco Tuesday half-off special at lunch. Very friendly, Spanish-speaking staff, delicious food, and great prices on Tuesdays. I especially like these tacos: the Carnitas a la Mexicana (pork) and the the Jicama Shrimp. Can't even comment on the food. The front desk staff was ridiculously disorganized. Had a 7:45 reservation showed up at 7:38 and was asked could we wait the 7 minutes because they were busy. Working on a walk in table of 12. They asked us to wait outside. 27 mins later we were still outside as they worked with the table of 12, seated another walk up of 3 immediately and the two more reservations. When I confronted them and asked for the manager the two younger front desk employees said it's not our fault, we didn't know you were there. I said you were standing right here when I came in and she actually said that doesn't mean i was listening. When the manager arrived the more senior employee tried to say she thought she sat someone who looked like me while the younger was whining he yelled at me. Total chaos and disorganization. We left and had great experience elsewhere. Don't waste your time. Good location. Not much else. read more

I'll save you some time...I really didn't enjoy the food, but the restaurant is in a great location and is very nice inside. Really, my visit to Tequila 61 was just mediocre. I was shocked. My wife loves the place and I had such high expectations. "Andrew, you will love their tacos. They are the best!" she said. "We can go get Wild Scoops afterwards!" she also said. One of those was true [hint: We got Wild Scoops afterwards]. I tried several of their tacos, none of them impressed. 1) The soft corn tortillas were [seemingly] stale and flaky. I couldn't even pick up the taco without the food breaking through. 2) The menu does a great job "selling" the food to the customer. Everything sounds amazing until you pop the chicken in your mouth and realize it tastes like they boiled it then sprinkled taco seasoning all over. No seasoning whatsoever. To top it off, the place is not cheap. When my wife said we were going to eat mexican food, I was ready for a hole-in-the-wall restaurant, a $5 meal and more chips and salsa than I could imagine eating. Nopeeeeeeee! Instead we walked into a tastefully decorated restaurant - a mix between urban contemporary and delightfully rustic (perfectly Alaskan!). But with that great ambience came a disappointing price tag. It was certainly not a $5 meal and I wasn't full either. Service was nothing to brag about. Just thought I'd mention it. Clearly Tequila 61 is striking a chord with part of the populace. I suggest giving them a try. If you don't like them, never return. If you do (which I hope), then you found a great spot to eat that is nearby some tourist hangouts and a public park. read more

This was the worst dining experience! We had reservations at 7:30 for a party of 12. We arrived and the restaurant was 3/4 full. We waited 45 minutes for acknowledgement from our waiter and then another 30 for drinks and and then another 20 for appetizers. Our waiter disappeared for 15 minutes while our drinks sat at the bar. We got our mediocre appetizers and ask several servers for a refill on our chips and never got any more chips. Wr placed our order for dinner and ask for more chips while we waited but we never got any more chips. While our king wait for dinner , We were all out of drinks and couldn't find anyone to take our orders for more drinks. You would think they would want to sell more alcohol!! By 9:00 our food wasn't here , our chip bowls were empty and our drinks were empty. Terrible experience. I suggest you find somewhere else for dinner in Anchorage! Really delicious drinks at this restaurant! I would highly recommend the happy hour drinks. They food was good. They have a variety of offerings including contemporary tacos and other mexican dishes. Not the biggest fan of the sauces on the food, as they seemed to be too salty and overpowered some of the food. On the other hand, the way that the food is written has you mouth watering. Great ambiance, look and feel for a gastropub and certainly a good place to go out with friends or even just for a drink. Would certainly go back for a drink or two! read more

Gema!!! Our server of the evening was amazing! Correction Is amazing! I'm someone who is very very picky with food, haven't ate beef pork or any seafood in over 8 years! Well she got me to try the popcorn shrimp and chipotle crepe which is duck... Delicious !!!!! Being from San Diego and Mexican I know what Mexican food should taste like. This is hands down the best restaurant in Anchorage by far! Not only did I try those dishes also the mole de Hoya chicken dish... Amazing! And as for drinks I love tequila, the tropical margarita, toooo die for! If you want something refreshing this is it! And yes you can taste the love in the drinks. I say drink because the old fashioned bourbon is a delight. As Smooth as silk going down so much so even a non bourbon drinker as myself can enjoy this! All over I give a 200%!!!!!!!! I had been dying to try Tequila 61 since I saw its Instagram page launch. So I was pumped when my husband took me here as a surprise for our anniversary recently. We sat by the bar and I was impressed that the mixologist/bar tender checked every drink in a sanitary way by inserting a straw in the drink, capping the top with a finger, and dropping a taste in his mouth. Seriously, that quality control shows dedication to his craft. A beer list on the drinks menu would be helpful though. I didn't even see that they served beer until I saw the handles behind the bar after I had already ordered a cocktail. The duck tacos were so good and they came presented very nicely in a little silver stand. I have to come back for their reduced-price Taco Tuesday for those. The chipotle crepe was pretty good too, but not as good as the tacos. We were disappointed that the sashimi appetizer (not my fav) was served simultaneously with the entrees. This was supposed to be a leisurely anniversary dinner but when the app and entrees came out at all at once it made for a more rushed vibe. The brownie was decent. Also bonus points for adorable mini milk cans of cream served with the coffee. read more

We ended up having drinks at this restaurant. The staff was very attentive and took care of me while here. The guy I didn't enjoy the company of. He was a little odd, in a 'my beliefs are truth!' sort of way. He asked me what my favorite children's cereal was. I wouldn't even call it a blind date, just the meeting of a random person who bought me a drink. A friend of mine and I were supposed to meet here. We have yet to.Anyway! My boyfriend and I are avid fans of fine dining, but the options in Anchorage are limited. We discovered Tequila 61 on their 'secret opening night' all the way back in March (I believe?). We walked in seeing that it was open and curiously asked to be seated. They happily sat us down, talked us through the menu, and explained that that night they just wanted to get people's honest opinions- as they were doing a 'pre-opening' to get an idea of what locals thought. We had drinks and dessert (their brownie sunday). Everything here was on par since day one. The staff are well-trained, friendly, and efficient. They know what's available and are quick to get your order to you. The bartenders make their drinks spot on and their drink selection in and of itself is so unique and absolutely worth stopping in for. Enjoy something sweet? My all time favorite drink is their AK 47- a mixture of lemon, strawberry, and bubbly wine flavors that is so worth getting drunk over. But the food- ugh the food. Guys, this place is IT for gourmet food in Anchorage. No reservation needed, but this place does tend to get a little busy with larger groups- so if you're coming with more than 5 people I suggest calling ahead of time. The menu is pricey, but everything about the food you're given is worth it. The presentations are spot on- colorful, innovative, and truly what you'd expect for the hefty dollar amount your putting down on your meal. Their popcorun shrimp are to die for with a sweet flavor and sesame seed crunch. I've tried at least half of their menu. It features a very unique twist on Mexican cuisine. You'll find both seafood, white meat, and red meat options. They have unique tacos- my favorite being their 'coconut shrimp taco'. Almost everything on their menu has a mix of savory and sweet flavors- which is something that originally deterred me. For instance their 'land and sea' platter features a fillet minon steak topped with cheese and sitting flat on a warm pineapple slice. Pineapple, cheese, and steak? That couldn't possibly be good- right? I was pleasently suprised- no, blown away, by the immense flavor combination. It was unique and something I never expected I would absolutely fall in love with- but everything about the food at this place is worth diving into. The atmosphere, once again, takes a 5 star rating. The place is clean and well-kept with a unique upscale western feel. Barnwood floors and table tops are accented with dark black metal table legs and black leather seating. There are an array of whiskey barrels in the center of the resturaunt, built into the wall- adding a unique but beautiful touch that I felt really fit the feel of this place. Be prepared to spend a little more than usual at this establishment. Both times my boyfriend and I have gone we've dished out around $150 for appetizers, a main course, and a dessert (as well as one or two drinks). You get your dollar's worth though, so don't be hesitant to make a special evening of this place. Absolutely worth it. I'm sure we'll continue to be regulars to this place way into the future. Clean nice looking place. Food is presented nicely. We walked in early lunch, like just opened, one other table. Took a while till anyone came by with water. Once we got going food came out fairly quickly. Got some guacamole, which had a bite, but the chips stone cold. Husband got tortilla soup said pretty good. Then I got the mushroom tacos. Which were very good! He got the baked potato which he was not impressed with. I must say it was really pretty. We asked for the check twice after sitting waiting to flag down our waiter. I have been here a good dozen times before but it has been since time since I have been. The menu changed but the food is still good. My main complaint is the drink menu changed but I just ordered a classic margarita but it was terrible. Like lime and water. It was gross. Never had that happen before.
